Reviews for Chambres d'hôtes Villa Gael

Review 1:Could not check in before 6pm. Can only pay cash. Somewhat out of the way.

Review 2:Very helpful owner. Interesting property, thoughtfully restored. We were in the attic room - depending on your fitness level you may require oxygen! It's a little bit out of the way - it was quiet though. NB - check in is at 6pm - no earlier! And payment must be by cash.

Review 3:The attic room was spacious but even moderately tall people but would need to be wary of the low ceiling. The toilet is on the landing, not ensuite and the shower, which is in the room, is small and a bit basic. Parking is in the narrow street adjacent to the property

Review 4:The house has great character and has been tastefully restored. A good traditional French breakfast was provided with assorted pastries, bread and fresh orange juice. It is located about 10 minutes walk from the old town centre.

Review 5:Does as it said on the tin Clean Relaxed lovely coffee for breckfast

Review 6:A bit out of the main area if you do not know the town Three streets away from the market square

Review 7:Slightly awkward to locate and some distance from the city, but one restaurant close by for meals.

Review 8:Quiet location in simple, traditional French house. Owner helpful and welcoming.

Review 9:Bit tricky to find but a sat nav or prior investigation would had solved that

Review 10:Fabulous house, very friendly hosts, breakfast was great. Totally recommended.

Review 11:everything was great!

Review 12:Tranquil location just a short steep walk to town through pleasant gardens affording fantastic views over the surrounding area. Accommodation very clean and attractive with tea making facilities in bedroom. Eve, the owner, is lovely and very welcoming, treating us to breakfast with homemade jams, FAB!

Review 13:It was a little difficult to find - some instructions would be helpful. It was a bit too far to walk into the old town up the steep hill in hot weather, but we drove in and found a spot quite easily. Our bathroom, which was lovely, was accessed via the staircase landing, which was not very private. The bath had only a hand-held shower, which is traditional but quite annoying to use.

Review 14:The decor was fabulous - beautiful antiques and quirky touches. The hostess was very friendly and helpful and even kept our picnic supplies in her fridge. We were lucky that we were the only guests with a car as there was just the one spot in the narrow lane.

Review 15:On a very narrow street. Had to park some streets away.

Review 16:Very nice host, wonderful garden for use by the guests. Typical French ambiance, nice full bath. Liked the breakfast, all you wanted.

Review 17:We liked the very comfortable rooms, quirky but nice. Parking was private and the location was not too far from the town. The owners are really nice and helpful. Lovely place.

Review 18:Not suitable if you don't like hills. Very steep walking around the area.

Review 19:Good situation for seeing Old Angeloueme, very nice owners and a good breakfast.

Review 20:Absolutely charming! Couldn't have asked for a more personal or welcoming host. Everything was felt like home, and the breakfast was amazing! Nothing short of a top-rated hotel, but a little more like home. Would recommend to anyone with flying colors.

Review 21:We had a lovely night stay here, eve who owns the property was just lovely. Very warm and welcoming, beautiful home, not to far to walk to town, and her breakfast is a must with her home made jam. Would defiantly stay here again.

Review 22:A little difficult to find, but our GPS pulled through.

Review 23:Very proximal to the Old City where we walked around and found several restaurants. Breakfast was delicious and quite adequate with home made jams and ample coffee. The hostess is friendly and accommodating. Charming decor. Excellent value for the price.

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:We only stayed one night here, but found this to be a lovely old hotel, full of character and charm. The owners were very nice, and gave us a lift to the train station in the morning. After staying there, we wished that we could have stayed a few more days.

Review 26:Spiders - but that's to be expected in an old house near a river!

Review 27:The welcome and easy-goingness of the owners who take great pride in their B&B and for whom nothing is too much trouble. The surroundings are lovely particularly the garden - a lot of hard work goes into the garden and it shows. There is a friendly cat to welcome you as well! The room had a lovely 'traditional French home' feel about it with a four poster bed and bathroom right next door. Great breakfast too! I would recommend this B&B although it is rather a steep walk up into the town - it's easy walking distance from the station however and the cartoon museum is close by

Review 28:Neighbourhood is bleak. Check in time at 6 pm is a bit late. Walk up to city fine in daytime, but probably not at night if going through the park.

Review 29:Lovely, well decorated room in large house with a wonderful hostess and friendly cat. Great dinner recommendation for the restaurant close by on the river. Good breakfast, in a lovely dining room overlooking the garden.

Review 30:Great care had been taken by the owner, Eve, to make her guest feel most welcome and comfortable. Lovely quite location and a easy walk into the old town albeit up hill for 10 minutes or so to get there. Make time for breakfast before you leave - excellant.

Review 39:Nice comfortable apartment.

Review 40:Close centre yet tranquil. Very good host

Review 41:It was all fab. Bed. Breakfast

Review 42:The parking was tricky but not impossible.

Review 44:Owner Breakfast Four poster bed interesting town comfortable lounge

Review 45:Our short stay was very enjoyable...we had comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast. The home and garden are beautiful with lovely furnishings.

Review 46:The friendly homely atmosphere. Charming comfortable room An excellent breakfast A great couple Would definatly stay again

Review 47:Great stop on a cycle tour, lovely house and garden tucked away by the river 10 mins walk up to the old town, or 5 mins to a restaurant on the river. Great breakfast with home made jams.

Review 48:If you are not too mobile the walk to the city centre may be a problem due to the steep uphill section of road.

Review 49:Homely atmosphere, friendly and helpful owners, good location for cyclists to start routes around Angoulême, garden next to river to relax, walking distance to the city centre, very nice breakfast, size of room, quietness of the area.

Review 50:Great for family of 5. It has something of an adventurous feel about it, especially for the children who got to stay in the attic. The breakfast was wonderful and the view from the breakfast room was beautiful.

Review 51:This is a typical French home welcoming guests into a "rustic" charm. Best nights sleep I've had in years. Breakfast good, and Eve, the owner, was very attentive. Bit of a long haul up the hill to the town, but at least it gives you an appetite. Ideal for Circuit de Ramparts and Rally.

Review 52:none

Review 53:The owners are very nice, helpful and very convenient. The cottage is between the exit of the motorway and the entrance of Angoulême town, so very convenient to move around. Their home-made breakfast is excellent.

Review 54:Delightful room in an old house within walking distance of the centre of Angouleme. The room was very comfortable, with our own bathroom next door. breakfast was outstanding. Excellent value for money.

Review 55:Nothing.

Review 56:Everything. The family were very friendly and welcoming. Their home and facilities were excellent. We hope to stay their again sometime in the future.

Review 57:Booking in was late at 6.00 although the lovely owner let us in a bit early. Also, booking out was quite early too at 10.00 although we were leaving early anyway.

Review 58:The owner was very friendly and helpful. The villa was set back from the road in pretty gardens. The furnishings were interesting and slightly eccentric which we liked. Breakfast good. Parking on the quiet road just outside.

Review 59:Narrow lane for parking but space.

Review 60:Madame was very welcoming and location just outside old town was good. Eccentric decoration, four poster bed. Lovely home made jams for breakfast.

Review 61:Very high climb to the centre of Angouleme. Bathroom shower not easy to use as hand held only.
