Reviews for Chambres d'Hôtes Laferrière
Review 1:The accommodation was difficult to find as there was no obvious indication from the street except a tiny note on the door bell. The room was at the very top of the house and this would have been impossible for anyone with breathing or mobility problems. This should be highlighted in the details about the accommodation
Review 2:Very helpful and friendly host Warm comfortable and well appointed room with sole use of the shared bathroom when I stayed which was a plus
Review 3:Lovely lady hostess, room airy, clean and large. Breakfast magnificient a l a francais.. Location at bottom of town ie steps/steep hill to centre, and check-in quite late at 6pm so if backpacking you'll need to carry backpack around all day. Hotel door not marked as hotel - it is on corner... Overall excellent
Review 4:The property is very well situated for the town, a very short walk into the centre. The owner is a very charming lady, who was very welcoming and attentive throughout. The bedroom was a good size and light, airy and clean, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was adjacent to the bedroom, very large and clean, and although shared, this was not a problem. Breakfast was served in the lovely dining room or on the fantastic outside terrace with wonderful views. We stayed for 3 nights and would certainly return.
Review 5:The internet didn't work very well in our room although it was ok downstairs.
Review 6:Madame Coriolan was the perfect hostess. Although we arrived 3 hours before checking in time (we hadn't checked the time) she kindly came home to let us in. Unfortunately, while she was showing us our room, our cars (hers and ours) were both parked outside on the road and we both got parking tickets! Madame Coriolan insisted on paying ours as we had booked private parking with her but hadn't yet put the car in the garage. We felt bad because she wouldn't have been there if we hadn't arrived early! We had a comfortable room with a view and a very spacious bathroom. Good breakfast of fruit, juice, croissants & bread with lots of different jams.
Review 7:Bedroom had little room to move but may have been overflow as building renovations were being done. A minor point
Review 8:An enthusiastic helpful hostess who insisted on carrying our suitcases to top floor. Very good advice about Angouleme and also delivered us to bus after checking times for us
Review 9:Nothing, I loved it all.
Review 10:Really great position and the owner was wonderful, very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were huge and breakfast plentiful, the atmosphere was very homey.
Review 11:Very traditional 200 year old property, but very tastefully decorated and maintained. We were made to feel very welcome by Michele who looked after us very well. Superb views from our bedroom and bathroom. 10 minute walk to the town centre.
Review 12:The owner of the hotel is a delightful lady, & most helpful.
Review 13:Steps up to the bedroom are a little challenging
Review 14:Mdm Coriolan is wonderful.... what a gracious lady
Review 15:Spiral staircase, but authentic to 200 year old house. Hold on to the handrail!
Review 16:Welcoming landlady. Location, Lovely view.
Review 17:Nothing to say here at all.
Review 18:Felt welcomed and were looked after very well, especially reassuring after a long drive.
Review 19:Michele was very friendly and helpful. The property is located on the edge of the old city and is very close to everything.
Review 20:Breakfast on the terrace with a good view. Within walking distance of town where there are plenty of restaurants and café bars.
Review 21:nothing
Review 22:The location of the building is excellent. The host is a fine lady that does all she can to make you feel comfortable
Review 23:The lady of the house was so charming and kind, she made so very very welcome.
Review 24:An excellent location, beautiful view from the terrace and from the room. Warm welcome by the landlady, we loved it!
Review 25:Only pillows provided was a bolster and a cushion. Bedroom and bathroom doors were not lockable. Concerned there was nobody on the premises when other guests were staying so no security at all. Breakfast was sufficient but the fruit juice was slightly fizzy which made us wonder whether it was fresh.
Review 26:Easy access to city centre, terrace had great views and was a welcome retreat from the heat of the day
Review 27:The room was a little small and somewhat cluttered but it added to the character of the place.
Review 28:The lady owner was very funny and extremely kind and helpful. Very welcoming couldn`t do enough for us.
Review 29:Not easy to get to even with sat nav(may have been us!) but once you know it's fine and good parking nearby.
Review 30:Small,quirky,very straightforward and scenic walk into historic centre. Warmly welcomed by owner.Lovely views from our room.Very good value.Great if you don't want anonymous hotel experience.More like staying with a friend. The terrace looked lovely for warmer weather.
Review 31:Nowhere to hang clothes.
Review 32:Madame very helpful and friendly, even getting me some raspberry jam to go with the excellent breakfast. Nice room with great view and very spacious bathroom. Tea and coffee supplied.
Review 33:clearly overpriced for what it is; we didn't get a key and were told to go for dinner and then somebody would be there to let us in after 9 pm. When we returned at 9.30 pm nobody was there and had it not been for the kindness of another guest to open the door for us we might have spent the night in our car. The bed sheets and towels had clearly been used by another guest and were not changed. The room was dirty and dusty. The breakfast consisted of toasted croissants which were a few days old and prepared by Madame who overslept that morning and jumped right from her bed into the kitchen without even having had a wash! One bathroom is shared by all guests. Overall a bad experience and not to recommend.
Review 34:good location and a sunny terrace with great views
Review 35:No private bathroom as booked. Towels smelled off. No lock on bedroom door and no ceiling to room below which meant we coud hear all conversations clearly. Bathroom with shower at end of corridor and shared with another room.
Review 36:Close to town centre.
Review 37:It rained so we had to have breakfast indoors rather than outside on the terrasse.
Review 38:The building, the location, the owner. Quirky in the best possible sense and memorable for all the right reasons. Please note, Madame's English is OK but this is the place to give your French a real workout.
Review 39:Laferrière has loads of character, with it's limestone walls and tasteful interior. I was made to feel very welcome and at home, everyone was extremely helpful. It really catches the sun and I enjoyed breakfast on the terrace. Great location for the centre of town, just a short walk in a straight line!
Review 40:The stairs are very steep and tortuous (as in many old French houses) - very careful negotiation is required.
Review 41:The lady owner could not have been more welcoming and friendly. I had car problems and she immediately put me in touch with the most relevant garage in Angouleme. The view over the country from the room was fantastic, yet the accommodation is only a few hundred yards (all uphill and up steps) from the centre of the Old Town, where most of the restaurants and places of interest are situated.
Review 42:A little difficult to find, but once found the location was good.
Review 43:The warmth of the reception from our hostess, the style of furnishings, and the excellent breakfast served on the terrace.
Review 44:The stairs would be a problem for anybody with mobility problems
Review 45:the very friendly welcome and helpful attitude of the owner. It was like being in somebody's home, which of course it is!
Review 46:Stairs (one or two flights) might be difficult for elderly, less mobile guests. Share bathroom might deter some guests - although not a problem for us.
Review 47:Wonderful welcome - very convenient location for city centre. Secure garaging (€10) is worth booking. Just like being invited into someone's home.
Review 48:We were well looked after from our arrival. Great room with a great view and the breakfast was plentiful.
Review 49:Very warm welcome and the owner was so helpful.
Review 50:Mme Coriolan was very welcoming and attentive. Her B&B was a few minutes' walk from the centre of the old city.
Review 51:Charming landlady. Lovely position in town.
Review 52:No air condition / fan.
Review 53:Owner, Michelle, was extremely welcoming and made sure our brief stay was enjoyable. Wonderful breakfast on the terrace.
Review 54:Not en suite.
Review 55:Madame Coriolan was extremely helpful and a very kind host. Good proximity to the historic town centre.
