Reviews for Hôtel du Palais
Review 1:The location is excellent- central for attractions, restaurants and shops.Very french feel to the hotel.Very helpful and friendly staff.Suggest parking in below ground multi -storey car park only 2 mins walk.
Review 2:friendly staff, big room, Room 306 quiet in back, modern bathroom. Parking pricey 7E a night, could have parked on street for less, but paid for the security. Breakfast buffet pricey (11.50 E) but a lot of variety and high quality.
Review 3:the hotel is somewhat quirky but ready for a major refurbishment. Parking was very difficult and the garage was not really ideal. I managed to receive 2 small scratches( caused by others whilst leaving the garage) on my new Mercedes .
Review 4:Good location within a very attractive and busy towns. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. The owners are very friendly and helpful
Review 5:Breakfast was not included and seemed expensive for five of us. So we got breakfast from over the road and are in the room for a third of the price. No car parking available on site so we parked on the square outside. Luckily found a spot. Free overnight parking though.
Review 6:Great location right in the centre of things. Very quiet room at the back of the hotel. Family room was actually two rooms and a little kitchenette! Main room easily fitted the three kids (one on a sofa bed) and the other had a nice en suite, but no toilet! Only one toilet, in the main room / bedroom. Decor was block, bright colours on the wall and no paintings or anything on the walls, so a bit stark. Overall though, very comfortable and great little kitchen. We got breakfast stuff from a great little boulanger over the road.
Review 7:Very charming and helpful owner and staff. He helped us with everything, from parking our car in the hotel garage which was full but he still found a place for our car, to giving us all the useful information about Angoulême to make our stay pleasant. Thank you!
Review 8:The pillow was a bit uncomfortable, but that's just me.
Review 9:Very convenient location in the center of the old city, nice views, and very attentive staff (We had a problem with our car and they really went out of the way to help us). All for a very reasonable price in August! There's also a great restaurant area just around the corner.
Review 10:Fabulous location, particularly helpful staff- slightly mad colour scheme which added to whole appeal. Booked return visit already. Definitely recommended. Excellent restaurant next door.
Review 11:Very friendly staff and very interesting decor in all the rooms - magenta, mauve & red - with lots of interesting rugs and other furnishings. Car parking was easily arranged on site.
Review 12:Personally, would prefer duvet to bedclothes; but bed v. comfortable with good reading lights. Slept well.
Review 13:A Boutique Hotel with character and idiosyncratic style, in a wonderful location.
Review 14:The corridor leading to the room was dark and gave a run down feeling to an otherwise imaginatively decorated hotel.
Review 15:The colourful decoration and fabulous rugs.
Review 16:The room was a bit stuffy/warm no air-con or fan.But as I was only staying for 1 night did not bother to get it sort out. Loose rugs on the floor looks nice but a bit of a trip hazard.
Review 17:Excellent friendly staff, location in the old part of Angouleme, many bars/ restaurants in the area, was able to check in at 10am. Kettle with tea/coffee making equip. Buffet breakfast with a good selection of dishes excellent value.
Review 18:Parking VERY tight - though to be expected in a city centre location.
Review 19:Lovely and easy to talk to staff who were willing to help as much as possible Quirky rooms - with tea & coffee making equipment - very rare in France! Private parking Location next to Palais de Justice meant we could ask people for directions, otherwise quite hard to find.
Review 20:My room was drab, with extremely poor lighting and was depressing in the extreme. No air-con so also stuffy.
Review 21:Location and its friendly, helpful staff. Its modern en-suite and availability, at a price, of parking - though space was very limited.
Review 22:Came back one afternoon to find a builders lorry blocking car park ,very busy . Nowhere to park. Drove around for 10 mins , still couldn't get in. Parked in front partly blocking road . Went into hotel , note saying receptionist would be back soon .Gone 20 mins . Found workmen & they moved there van . Parked car only to be told by returned rather officious receptionist we had parked at wrong angle .
Review 23:Location, private parking, most staff friendly & helpful. Very relaxing stay .
Review 24:What a perfect hotel! - a unique rustic charm in a perfect settingoverlooking a small square combined with superb rooms a delightfulbreakfast and very helpful front desk hosts all contribute to a10/10 review score for the Hotel du Palais. You need to stay here! -It's Absolutely Perfect
Review 25:The shower had no wall attachment, so had to be hand held.
Review 26:The hotel has real charm and character. Not a bland, beige chain hotel room. Staff very helpful and friendly. Location great. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room.
Review 27:Room colour was a bit bright...noisy guests upstairs as we could hear all the footsteps and alarm going off in the morning.
Review 28:Great location in centre of Angouleme. Very helpful staff. Good to have car parking facilities.
Review 29:The location is great, the staff has been great both times I've stayed, the breakfast was excellent, the room was quite comfortable. I also like that it is not part of a chain, and so the decor is eclectic and interesting. All in all, a great place to stay.
Review 30:Nothing -- but thank goodness for sat nav, otherwise finding it in a car could be problematic. There are lots of twists, turns and sharp bends to navigate!
Review 31:Everything! Very original style, definitely have made the best of an old building with modern comforts in the rooms. Breakfast very good, and wifi works all over the hotel. Very central to explore the old town and Romanesque cathedral.
Review 32:Nothing to dislike
Review 33:Staff were very helpful. Location was right in centre. Breakfast was excellent, worth the extra. Would definitely stay here again. Lovely town to wander around
Review 34:Décor has a limited appeal. Think they have probably had a designer in, but colours too clashing and garish for us. Breakfast poor value for money at 11.5 euros each. Breakfast staff unimpressive, though not when this was covered by reception staff - then it was OK. Our room not as good as suggested by the photos on the website. We wonder if you get a poorer room if you book through the website price deal, but cannot be sure of this.
Review 35:Shower room v good. Bright, clean, excellent shower. Reception staff friendly. Housekeeping good. Location v central and convenient.
Review 36:Warm and friendly staff, individually designed rooms which were a welcome change from hotel chains, superb location right in the heart of the old town, very good buffet breakfast at a reasonable rate with first-rate homemade jams.
Review 37:Be careful walking down the stairs, they are ancient and a little uneven!
Review 38:lovely location in the centre of the old town. The room had three windows opening onto the square and the bathroom had a proper bath - the decor in the hallways looks like a faded bordello but the room was grand with real old wooden floor, very comfortable beds and a spectacular breakfast. Cannot recommend this place too highly.
Review 39:The room was uncomfortable with cheap old furniture and the room was decorated with the most disturbing combination of colours.
Review 40:The location was very good for walking access to the old town, bars and restaurants. The hotel parking was next door but very tight.
Review 41:Suggest they do something about the loose rugs in the dining room which are a bit of a hazard.
Review 42:The place exudes French character and the breakfast was very nice and fresh.
Review 43:The decor leaves a lot to be desired. Very clean but I expected a more chic style.
Review 44:Location is excellent and staff very friendly
Review 45:€11 breakfast NOT worth it. Charge for parking and tell you when you check out.
Review 46:Unique decor. Poor view from back room.
Review 47:the originality of the decor
Review 48:Hadn't been told on booking.com of on site parking @7euros per night
Review 49:Quirky decor but great location

Review 67:Bed could be bigger, but we only had the basic level of accommodation - there are bigger beds in the suites
Review 68:The manager and staff were very friendly
Review 69:Nothing of significance.
Review 70:In addition to above, good tips for restaurants and walk-about around the old town.

Review 79:Location, staff, food and atmosphere.
Review 80:Need to leave car keys at the desk if the hotel garage is used.
Review 81:Location and friendly staff.
Review 82:Dark gloomy corridors; ghastly decor and colour schemes; general shabbiness.
Review 83:Location; excellent breakfast
Review 84:Price of the breakfast
Review 85:Situated right in the centre of the old town with many bars restaurants within easy walking distance. Quirky design and furniture with lots of character
Review 86:little hard to find the last road off the Hotel de ville square but there is some repair work going on. perhaps a hotel sign would be allowed by the municipality.
Review 87:excellent location with facility of paid parking right in the old town. quirky décor and lovely old building. excellent breakfast - pricey but very substantial so set us up for the day
Review 88:Really funky decor, lovely staff and great location in the heart of Angouleme. Good breakfast & value for money. It is easy to find and a really special hotel we are so glad we stayed.
Review 89:Nothing really - limited parking in the garage although plenty of parking on the street and in the square. No tea or coffee facilities in the room if you require that sort of thing. Cant complain about anything !
Review 90:Fantastic 5 night stay in a junior suite right in the heart of the old town. 5 minutes walk to markets, bars, restaurants. Huge room with en suite and separate toilet, huge living room with a separate sleeping area. Don't expect beige and brown mundane chain hotel décor - expect the unexpected ! Loved it and will go again soon !
Review 91:The dark colors of the room with not much light
Review 92:The receptionist was very kind and gave us an excellent restaurant suggestion. The localization was excellent and the breakfast was the best I had with fresh fruits and a natural orange juice
Review 93:I can't think of anything we didn't like.
Review 94:Staff extremely helpful. Was warned about noise and hot room as south facing into the square. Offered a different room at any time if requested but decided to stay in this room as it was a lovely big room, with long windows and balconies. Couldn't find more helpful staff. Had breakfast the last morning, this was excellent. The town was lovely, and there were around 40 bars and restaurants within 2 minutes walk.
Review 95:Room did not have the balcony as indicated on the booking confirmation, and which I had requested.
Review 96:Good old town location. Pleasant rooms (but see next section) Helpful staff.
Review 97:Hotel du Palais is a charming hotel in the very center of Angouleme. There is a soul in this eitheenth century old building. The room decoration / relooking is inspiring with nice linen /flax. The stall is extremely smart & friendly.
Review 98:The hotel is (very) very colourful but lots of bright paint everywhere, which is probably to disguise that some parts need to be redecorated or repaired....
Review 99:Great breakfast with lots of local produce, very nice staff, very helpful, no extra charge for a baby bed. Nice old building, even if it could use some repairs here and there. But very good value for money.
Review 100:Nothing, it was all good.
Review 101:We liked everything, the location was good, breakfast was good, staff were very friendly. It was a bit tricky to find but otherwise, once we were there, everything was really good.
Review 102:Breakfast service could sharpen up a bit. My booking said "Sound proof room", it wasn't.
Review 103:Excellent English speaking receptionist, and friendly efficient owner. Great location in the centre of Angouleme. Garage at the hotel.
Review 104:Our room had a very high ceiling with many beams. It was n't partandicularly comfortable, though. Furnishing and decoration were quite eccentric. Walls sponge-painted in pink/burgandy.
Review 105:Excellent position on a lovely square. Near to restaurant quarter.Very helpful and friendly staff.Good garage at street level.Good breakfast.
Review 106:We had the impression that room cleaning was entrusted to unsupervised stagiers; Nothing eco-friendly (no recycling bins, change of towels every day); No mirror in the room
Review 107:Location; Friendly staff (English speaking); Original and lovely design (boutique hotel); Close to many restaurants
Review 108:The location of the hotel is ideal right in the old town with lots of lovely restaurants and cafe bars nearby. The staff were so friendly and really helpful. The hotel was lovely and brightly coloured as were the rooms, very clean and good facilities. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting this area
Review 109:Breakfast not included in the rates. No doors closing off the bathroom from the bedroom nor the two bedrooms from one another in the family suite. No towel hooks in the bathroom.
Review 110:Beautiful old building in central location to see the historic city. Comfortable room, very clean. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Very good buffet breakfast.
Review 111:Bed too narrow; bed slopes into middle and needs to be replaced (in room 216). There is no loo roll holder: one needs to be supplied. The fridge needs to be properly mounted (it looks as if it has just been dumped in the room!) in a cabinet.
Review 112:Cleanliness good. Suite was very good; plenty of seats, chairs and a table. Management very friendly and helpful.
Review 113:No shower curtain
Review 114:The hotel is right in the city square, so everything is nearby. Our car was parked in their garage so was easily accessable too.The City was charming with dozens os restuarants nearby. The decor in the hotel is wild bright colours. the breakfast was fab. The owner was charming
