Reviews for La boule d'or

Review 1:While we knew the rooms were upstairs, we hadn't envisioned a steep flight of metal stairs with no one to help us with our suitcases. We had asked for parking but was told there was none. The woman at the desk was less than helpful. We arrived late, around 7 pm, so maybe that was the problem. The woman during the day was very nice and did tell us about parking the second night.

Review 2:The room was fine. The bed was pretty comfortable. Everything was clean, shower was fine.

Review 3:Could not try the restaurant as it was closed on the Wednesday evening we stayed. Shame, as the menus looked very appetizing.

Review 4:An excellent small boutique type hotel in a perfect location on a pedestrian thoroughfare in middle of the town.

Review 5:Very difficult to find -- park by the riverside on the quay and ask the way (it includes a drive down a pedestrianised street. Or semi-pedestrianised, as the French say.)

Review 6:Great place in the centre of town

Review 7:Noise from street bars until 10:00pm. Staff was the resturant staff and rooms are above as a after thought. Would not stay here again unless no choice.

Review 8:Location near ceity centre and Market.

Review 9:Ambiance and layout of hotel poor: access to bedroom through the restaurant and an open courtyard was unsatisfactory.

Review 10:Th location of the hotel and the secure parking adjacent to the hotel

Review 11:Only dislike was the courtyard parking was a bit limited and difficult to access, because of the hotels location in the centre of Chinon.

Review 12:very friendly staff who welcomed us,couldn't do enough for us.Also very dog friendly, offered water for dog on arrival, confirmed dog was welcome in restaurant.Restaurant "A'Table" is first class with a very good local wine list.

Review 13:Quite difficult to find - one of the key road signs looks as if it has been hit by a lorry, and we kept missing the turn, but no great problem.

Review 14:Helpfulness of the staff, quietness of the room, on site free parking.

Review 15:We arrived after a 6 hour journey at 16.15 to find that recepion was closed until 17.00. Also the steps from our bedroom were slippy as it was raining and should be internal/under cover - we did not feel secure and safe using them.

Review 16:We liked the hotel and its location in Chinon. Everything you need in walking distance. Secure parking. Great Breakfast. Wonderful dining room and pleasant manager/owners. Merck, Jean Claude

Review 17:Having to use the stairs in the rain.

Review 18:Excellent food in the restaurant, service good and reasonable prices. Everything cooked in house I believe. Very close to centre and short walk to castle. Rooms overlooking street a little noisy.

Review 19:If you open the window, the street noise is very intrusive, you can hear the conservations of the diners at the restaurant below.

Review 20:Thr room is clean and comfortable.

Review 21:The location was perfect - central and within walking distance of all the main sights. The patron was helpful and charming. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 22:No air con or fan. No tea making facilities. Tv and internet out of date. Noisy at night. Ciagarette smoke from main office. Awkward parking

Review 23:Breakfast

Review 24:Excellent location. Nice restaurant. Clean and comfortable rooms. Parking nearby. Friendly owners.

Review 25:Very friendly staff and an excellent restaurant. Their Coq au Vin is superb.

Review 26:Bolster instead of pillow might be a step too far for some.

Review 27:Central position, friendly, traditional.

Review 28:Booking.com says parking is free on site - it costs 5 euros per night on site and is free in the road.

Review 29:paying 5 euros to park your car

Review 30:just exallent place to stay, are 2nd time and we will be back

Review 31:The parking was hard to find and difficult to access.

Review 32:The location was excellent, and the room was clean and comfortable, the shower was excellent.

Review 33:The patron and his staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant attached to the hotel was amazing.

Review 35:Breakfast and general service

Review 36:Access to the car park (€5 xtra) is difficult. But acheivable.

Review 42:everything

Review 43:nothing

Review 44:excellent restaurant

Review 45:For the price we paid it was very good. The bedroom and the bathroom were both very spacious, and very clean. We shall be back.

Review 46:Location, food, car parking, Staff & most of all the very helpful owners, who were excellent locating a garage with the ability to repair the rear brakes on my Nissan Qashqai, plus locating the only set of pads in Chinon. This was the eighth time we have stayed when travelling to & from Verteillac, & is always excellent.

Review 47:Our hosts were very accommodating, professional and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were very clean. The hotel is located centrally which enhanced our stay. The food and service were superior. We were very pleased with our stay.

Review 48:Very "hands off" proprietors - they politely showed us how to unlock the front door after hours, but offered no help with our luggage, suggestions...

Review 49:They had BBC on the TV and very good shower pressure.

Review 50:The breakfast was very poor- no choice and limited to bread jam and acroissant. It was definitely the poorest value for money that weexperienced in France. The 26 digit alphanumeric password for the internet was not very user friendly!

Review 51:Location and bedroom were good.

Review 52:Really nice little hotel with friendly atmosphere. Also has fantastic restaurant called At'able - would highly recommend this as the food and service and wine choice were superb.

Review 53:You have to climb stairs to get to you room so I guess it could be problematic with a heavy luggage. The breakfast is only pastry and yogurt.

Review 54:The room was spacious, nice bathroom. Located in a building facing a Loire embankment and the small pedestrian street. 5 minutes walk from the city centre and an elevator to the castle. Free parking is available along the river though beware of the birds, we hardly recognized a car in the morning. The Castle is beautiful, lots of nice restaurants that are in Micheline guide. We recommend Les Annees 30 (fantastic duck).

Review 55:Since the hotel is on a main walkway for the city center, it can getnoisy especially during the late evening with diners and the closing ofthe restaurant.

Review 56:Friendly staff, nice restaurant, cozy room

Review 57:Everything!!!

Review 60:Staff very good. Very clean. Dining excellent.

Review 61:No tea or coffee making facilities. Outside steep staircase to room.

Review 62:Friendly staff. Large airy room. Great breakfast. Centre of Chinon
