Reviews for Hostal la Campana

Review 1:Very Noisey both outside & in hotel Mattresses stored in corridor one day After checking in the reception changed person & he didn't speak English

Review 2:This Hostal is very poor indeed. Made worse by the fact that on trying to cancel our second night booked having found it impossible to sleep we were unable to do so via booking.com. Please explain why.

Review 3:The room walls are very thin and can be very noisey. We just happend to have a young couple very much in love next door...but at 4 in the morning we very not amused...

Review 4:Location good for overnight stay for Gibraltar airport

Review 5:Staff barely understands/speak English. Didn't provide four single beds as requested. They gave us two singles and a double. We asked to change but never did. Room poorly cleaned. Air conditioning smells foul.

Review 6:Bathroon accessories changed daily. Excellent location for gibraltar.

Review 7:Comfortable, clean accommodation. Didn't eat there so can't give opinion. Staff very helpful. Don't expect 5* accommodation for what you pay, but receive basic, clean and comfortable accommodation located a few minutes from La Linea centre and Gibraltar border. Would definitely stay there again. Only downside was fault with WiFi but was rectified for use in foyer but very weak in rooms. Staff explained and tried to fix.

Review 8:None of the staff at reception spoke English until the day we were checking out, wifi only worked for the first two days, only one plug socket in the room.

Review 9:Great location, well cleaned, powerful and hot shower. Value for money.

Review 10:Personel don't speak English, access to wifi is limited and often not available, public parking is almost always Full and the closest private parking costs 18€/24h, I was mostly disappointed by often disconnecting wifi :\

Review 11:Very Clean bathroom, cleaning the room and changing towels every day also hostel has very good location

Review 12:Room was nothing like in the Picture, it was small room with view to inner court (trash), burning marks from cigarettes all over furnituure. Receptionist didnt have password for wifi etc. Looking at fire escape map it was obvious they had places double bed into single bed room so there was no room for anything else other than bed. Looks awful from outside.

Review 13:Location was great

Review 14:Did not have car parking as advertised. There was an expensive car park nearby and car parking near the hostel was on a time limit. Need to drive local streets to find a car park.

Review 15:Nice place friendly, helpful staff. There are great places to eat and street bars nearby. Much better value and food than Gibralter. You can easily walk to Gibralter from the hostel.

Review 16:The area looks really dodgy but once past that we were fine. We walked across to Gibraltar everyday though so it was only the walking part.

Review 17:The older man hosting was the best person ever. He showed and told us everything we needed to know. Led us by foot 100 metres run the corner to a specific shop for our future travels. anything we wanted he showed us or told us. was so friendly and awesome

Review 18:The room I've stayed in had a private bath but it wasn't in the room, it was across the hall.

Review 19:In a few minutes you can be at the crossing border. A sandy beach isn't far either. The room was large and clean.

Review 20:I did not enjoy the fact that we had to go to the front desk everyday and each of us had to get a different password for wifi.. Half of the time the wifi wouldn't even work. Beds were uncomfortable. I reserved 4 twin beds and got stuck with 2 twin beds and a queen so my friends had to sleep on a tiny bed together.

Review 21:The location is of walking distance to the beach and the border to Gibraltar!

Review 22:No kitchen, when i asked about it, the receptionist talked to me as if it was the most ridiculous question Mould in the wardrobe

Review 23:Central location, close to the gibraltar border Lift for luggage

Review 24:Breakfast in not included.

Review 25:My friend and I came here for visiting Gibraltar, so the location was very good. It took 10-15 minutes' walk to the border. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 26:The bed was quite uncomfortable and there wasn't a lot of space in the room.

Review 27:5 minute walk from the border to gibraltar, lots of local shops and restaurants, friendly staff, lift was also a bonus considering the building. The gave us 2 beds which was nice too.

Review 28:Booked this expecting a restaurant, but it does not have one now. States it's accessible with lift, but there are a couple of steps up to the lift and the lift is quite small.

Review 29:Good location for Gibraltar, with choice of food outlets in the area.

Review 30:WiFi in room didn't work but most of the bars and restaurants offered free WiFi so it wasn't really a problem.

Review 31:The hotel is in a great location for walking over the Border to Gibraltar. Cheap and cheerful and very clean. La Linea itself turned out to be a lovely wee town.

Review 32:Only, fault if you can call it that was my partner is 6' and his feet extended out of the bed. But this did not cause a problem for his sleeping.

Review 33:Never having stayed in a Hostel before, did not kinow what to expect. Found the accommodation, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and helpful, and although facilites were basic had all that you required, at a price that did not break the bank.

Review 34:paper thin towels.very noisy, uncomfortable bed, small bathroom, no chairs, only one bed side table, no lamps, no TLC at all with room, worst hostal we have stayed in

Review 35:Everything was awful

Review 36:The room was dated and not clean with stains on the blankets. Camp beds were rattly and the room was not clean with dust and dirt on the skirting. I wish i had taken pictures to post. Horrendous stay with noisy street and very thin walls.

Review 37:Walls supposed to be white and literally were black, smelled a lot of damp. Beds and pillows was not very comfy and i could not open the blinds as they were broken. Tv very small and channels hardly had any signal. Not bad for just needing a roof would not recommend if coming from a long journey.

Review 38:Its near to everything, staff very friendly

Review 39:This is no way in connection with Hostal Campana but we found the congregation of men drinking and smoking just prior to reaching the border off-putting. We discovered that they are usually hanging around as part of cigarette smuggling gangs waiting for the goods to arrive from across the border. Whether it's true or not I don't know.

Review 40:Staff at the Hostal were very friendly, hospitable and obliging. We had my elderly mother with us who uses a wheelchair and staff were very accommodating where this was concerned. Distance to the Gibraltar/Spain border was about 10 minutes walk which was great.

Review 41:The negatives though are basic decor and flooring, it was lacking in drawer and worktop space and with only one power point we were pleased that we travel with multi point extension lead for recharging mobiles, etc. The lighting was a single ceiling light, OK for normal use but no good for reading. . The towels were well used and designed for small people and you have to speak Spanish for the TV.

Review 42:We stayed here so we could easily walk over the frontier into Gibraltar, especially for the New Year’s Eve fireworks and festivities there. If you are lucky you get to park immediately outside where they have two on street parking spaces. Failing that there is an underground car park across the road which will work out expensive so try to find an on road space. We left our car in situ for the whole of the five days and with the hotel business card in the windscreen there was no trouble and it was free. The hotel reception is manned by the proprietor (Andreas, good English), his father (very little English), and two sons (ditto grandfather), all of whom were very friendly and helpful. . We stayed in Room 201 which was large, basic, the bed firm but comfortable. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. The air con worked well and the wi-fi is excellent. This is a good standard hostel and for the price extremely good value. The bonus for us was we were allowed to keep our breakfast yoghurt in their fridge over night, the other point being its location for strolling into the heart of Gibraltar. Would we stay here again, yes, it fitted the bill for us but then it wouldn’t be everybody’s cup of tea but with two minor additions to the room it would be immeasurably improved. A) a small kitchen fridge and B) a room safe, although Andreas said we could leave items in his personal safe. A special thank you to Andreas who even moved his own car out of the space in front of the hotel so that we could park there for our final night without having to pay for garage public parking.

Review 43:In serious need of updating. No parking except a VERY expensive car park down the road. Lots of noise from outside (and neighbouring rooms). Bed was very firm and not comfortable for me. Glad the wife wasn't with me - she would not have been happy. It's okay for a quick solo trip into Gib but that's about all. Would I return? Probably not. Sorry.

Review 44:Difficult to say really. Large room (3 single beds) and plenty of hot water but that's about it.

Review 45:The area around the border which you have to walk through to get to the hotel is poor

Review 46:We chose this hotel because it is cheap, the reviews are good and close to the border

Review 47:The first room they gave us stunk of smoke. The second room smelled ok, but the TV did not work. The wi-fi was broken and never did work. Parking on the street was impossible, so you will likely have to park in a very expensive underground facility. Over all, the facility was very worn out and in need of attention.

Review 48:The staff was always friendly and helpful. The La Campana was very close to the Gibraltar entry point. Also, the breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. But the hostal itself was worn out and badly in need of work.

Review 49:There was nothing to dislike

Review 50:The staff were very helpful I Would say this was a very comfortable & clean place to go,,and will be staying there again

Review 51:The hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The location is awesome for walking to Gibraltar for the day. The rooms are comfortable and the price is great!

Review 52:our room did not look the same way as the provided pictures and in terms of cleanliness I had higher expectations

Review 53:the location was very good - very close to the Gibraltar border; the staff were nice even though they did not speak English

Review 54:I have stayed in many characterful hostals all over Spain. All of them were far cleaner and more characterful and cheaper than Hostal la Campana. The staff were nice, but I would not go back. No one goes to La Linea for pleasure, only out of necessity. Despite having a print out of my booking, they had no record of it when I arrived.

Review 55:Easy walking distance to Gibraltar airport, the only reason I ever stay in La Linea.

Review 56:NOTHING TO REPORT, JUST OUR OPINION, BUT WE THOUGHT ANDRES, HIS STAFF AND FACILITIES WHERE EXCELLENT, ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE . GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY.

Review 57:THE STAFF PRIMARILY, ALWAYS ATTENTIVE EAGER TO HELP. PRIME LOCATION IF FLITTING BETWEEN LA LINEA AND GIBRALTAR. CENTRAL TO ALL COMODITIES AND NIGHT LIFE.

Review 58:Okay as a bed for the night no frills accommodation - no complaints!

Review 59:Walking distance to Gibraltar border. Clean, friendly staff, air con - would stay the night there again.

Review 60:Nothing as it is budget accommodation and judged as that.

Review 61:Location: 5 minute walk to the Gibraltar border crossing. Free parking on either side of the road between the two roundabouts as you approach the hostal.(Av. de Espana). Ideal for short stay.

Review 62:The only power outlet in the room was not so safely fixed to the wall.

Review 63:Very well located as it is close to the frontier to Gibraltar and close to the centre of La Linea. Clean and helpful staff. Not expensive. Thanks

Review 64:The septic tank smell constantly emanated from the bathroom whenever you ran a tap, flushed or showered. The loo floor smelt of urine. The room was next to the lift which caused a bang every time someone used it. The rooms are spartan but to be expected in this segment. A baby cot was requested but not provided.

Review 65:Location to Gib crossing and local shops/ eateries.

Review 66:The shortest walk from the hostel to the Gibraltan border takes you through a pretty seedy commercial area.

Review 67:Great location for a trip to Gibraltar. Stayed with 3 children and place was clean tidy and quiet. Staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful. We were booked 2 rooms and still a great price overall with each room having shower, tv and air conditioning.

Review 68:Strange to have an elevator that you have to go up some stairs to get to. Sort of defeats the purpose of an elevator. Otherwise it has the bare minimum and meets your needs for a sleep and a shower

Review 69:2nd time we have stayed here for the location. Staff were friendly. Decent value for the price.

Review 70:Oners so friendly and helpful just a great. Place to stay. We were for three nights going back this week It's that good.

Review 71:Basic clean accommodation in good cental location. Staff were helpful.

Review 72:spot on for the money

Review 73:Beds and mattresses stored in corridors and stairs.

Review 74:The staff was very helpful

Review 75:French bread and tea/caffe in the morning

Review 76:Not complaining but not just Spanish sat TV would be even better .

Review 77:Nice people.plumbing problem in evening sorted quickly.

Review 78:Clean and basic and fab location

Review 79:Bit noisy,

Review 80:Very handy for crossing over to Gibraltar not far from shops and beach

Review 81:No disabled hand holds in bathroom

Review 91:The heat! Aircon though!

Review 92:Location, staff, room, facilities.

Review 94:clean towels daily room cleaned daily

Review 95:Long way to border, must use taxi - no parking and staff don`t speak english - how to communicate when you are tourist ?

Review 96:Bad, bad, bad ! :-(

Review 97:No tea making facility in room

Review 98:Clean, good value, good location for Gibraltar.

Review 99:Location and friendly staff

Review 100:Very basic. Alright if you are looking for nothing more than a bed for the night.

Review 101:Location. 5 minutes walk to the border.

Review 102:it was all we where expecting for location and very cental as a location

Review 103:Beds were uncomfortable

Review 104:Basic but clean and aircon works well, good location

Review 105:expensive parking

Review 106:close to gibraltar

Review 107:Todo según la descripción. Muy agradable la estancia.

Review 108:Personal muy atento y agradable. Local con excelente situación. Humilde pero muy correcto.

Review 109:Smell of cigarette smoke in the room

Review 110:Convenient for Gibraltar and Central La Linea, cheap and friendly service

Review 111:It was a clean safe budget hotel.

Review 112:Room not so clean. Need new curtains, bed spreads and pillows.

Review 113:Considerably cheaper than Gibraltar hotels Bathrooms spotlessly clean but

Review 114:Located near the border to Gibraltar and in the city center

Review 115:Location. the only way to get closer to the border would be to sit in border patrol office. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Review 116:Reducidos los espacios de la habitación.

Review 117:Me gustó la cercanía con la estación de autobuses y la frontera. La limpieza es buena.

Review 118:Good location. We were able to park on space which belongs to hotel. English speaking staff, they were very helpful and nice.

Review 119:hard mattress

Review 120:clean, accessible, very good value for money, good shower

Review 121:Room needed redecoration - curtains hanging off rail. Furniture had cigarette burns on. Old furniture left in corridors.

Review 122:Friendly staff, clean rooms and great location and value if you are looking to stay in La Linea and visit Gibraltar.

Review 123:Staff where great, very friendly.
