Reviews for Hotel Epi d'Or

Review 1:Nothing to fault. Good value for the price.

Review 2:Great hotel for the price. Our room was nice and quiet overlooking the back with a balcony. Room was small but clean. Reception staff were very friendly.

Review 3:Not in a good area of the town and felt like it could do with refurbishment, but you get what you pay for!

Review 4:The staff were helpful and there is off road parking. We had a cheap night here.

Review 5:When you entered the room you were in the bathroom as they had taken down the portioning wall to enlarge the room, very odd, but good overnight stay.

Review 6:A basic hotel, free parking

Review 7:The receptionist could not have been more helpful - spoke great English, directed us to a good restaurant, booked a taxi for us and gave us change for a note. Everything we needed. Free WiFi, clean room at a good price. Brilliant!

Review 8:The breakfast was not as good as I have had at some other hotels within the same price bracket, but was still fine.

Review 9:Good value for money. Clean comfy rooms and very helpful staff. Although on a main road the room was nice and quiet.

Review 10:Excessive price for rooms and parking due to motor racing weekend hence the hike in prices, minimal tea and coffee making facilities and no air con, classic back packers hotel...

Review 11:Staff were great

Review 12:No aircon, and a busy road outside meant you either opened the window and were woken early, or kept it shut and overheated. We didn't take breakfast as it looked expensive, but it was a buffet so might well have been vfm.

Review 13:The room, whilst basic, was clean had a TV and wi-fi and a bath in the bathroom. The off street parking was really handy. We had a large van and it was good to know that it was safe from traffic and French drivers on the road outside the hotel. The hotel is good value, yet only 15 min walk from the bars and cafés of the centre ville.

Review 14:No coffee in rooms Dim light for makeup in bathroom

Review 15:Good situation Clean & comfortable Fresh produce for breakfast Private car park Friendly staff

Review 16:If I had one complaint the room was a little warm. It was July, but only around 23 degrees on arrival. it may get very warm in hotter weather

Review 17:The Breakfast was great Value for money, which was the case with every other aspect of our stay. The lady on reception on arrival and at breakfast was warm and friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Review 18:balcon good parking spot

Review 19:No kettle in room and breakfast expensive for what u got.

Review 20:Market and Patisserie both very close to hotel but town centre was 12-15 mons walk at least.

Review 21:Bar isnot really a bar just a cabinet with drinks and nowhere else to go in the vicinity

Review 22:Staff very helpful

Review 23:No real bathroom door, seperated from bedroom only by sliding door.

Review 24:Friendly staff and good breakfast.good value

Review 25:There was very little floor space and nowhere to put a normal sized suitcase.

Review 26:The room was clean and the spread for breakfast was extensive.

Review 27:wifi. help unfriendly

Review 28:location

Review 29:Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable, clean room. Great value for money.

Review 30:Nothing really

Review 31:Friendly staff, location was good, parking arrangement was also good and secure. Breakfast was OK

Review 32:triple glazing, very noisy if opened, stuffy airless room if closed, no ventilation

Review 33:It was very hot when we stayed so the room was very warm even with the door open. Our room overlooked the street and it was quite noisy very early in the morning with the door open.

Review 34:The room was very comfortable with large bed. There was a door opening on to small balcony whi h helped to cool the room.

Review 35:Our bed was too soft, but adequate. There weren't any mirrors in the bedroom (just in the bathroom, which steamed-up quickly). Radiator pipes in our room were noisy during the night.

Review 36:The staff were excellent and friendly (also perfect English spoken), and our room was comfortable and clean, with nice bathroom. Location was convenient for SNCF station, and was only a short walk to the historic centre of Angouleme. Our room was on 3rd floor, and at the back, so was away from any road noise at the front.

Review 37:Quite a long walk to centre, breakfast not really worth the cost, better to have coffee and croissants in a boulangerie.

Review 38:Clean room, friendly staff. Safe parking, lovely city to visit and walk round.

Review 39:poor value for money - no qair co, just very noisy fan. we also stayed in a 4 star hotel in Madrid - very luxurious and a lot cheaper.

Review 40:good location

Review 41:nothing.

Review 42:Excellent location, very efficient and friendly staff. Good breakfast. Bike friendly - travelling with a bicycle and hotel and staff were very accommodating

Review 43:No bar, no lounge, no Air conditioning. Inadequate space to store clothes. No fridge and no safe, and no hair dryer Overpriced really poor breakfast

Review 44:Nothing much WIFi and free parking

Review 45:The bedroom was a bit small, but we only wanted it for one night so it didn't matter at all.

Review 46:The reception staff were excellent and spoke fluent English. A good breakfast was offered at an extra cost. Its a hotel on the road, but the sound proofing was so very good you could hardly hear anything. Hotel corridors give off a lot of noise, but there was an extra door that prevented a lot of the sounds which meant that we weren't woken by sounds of people talking or just walking in the hallways.

Review 47:We booked this 3 star hotel as it was in the right location and offered free wifi in all the rooms - which was a priority for us. We were not able to make use of their soirée etape, apparently because we booked through Bookings.com and so had to go out to find somewhere to eat. This meant driving for a fair distance to find anything open at 8pm. When we got back to the hotel we found the wifi did not work in our room & had to insist on beng moved to another room as we explained (in French) this was the main reason for choosing this hotel. Reluctantly the receptionist moved us - and the wifi did then work but reception then closed for the night. We needed to use the bathroom shortly after this and discovered there was no door separating any part of the bathroom from the bedroom. We were horrified but could do nothing as reception was now closed. Having the shower and basin with no door might have been just acceptable- but not the lavatory! How is this a 3 star hotel as having no lavatory door is surely a basic necessity! They were advertising as having recently refurbished the entire hotel - perhaps this does not mean what we thought it meant!

Review 48:We booked this 3 star hotel as it was in the right location and offered free wifi in all the rooms - which was a priority for us.

Review 49:It's a half hour walk into the centre of Angouleme. We didn't mind this but it might be a problem for others. We had a room at the back which was quiet and airy but it would be noisy at the front. There are no restaurants nearby so you have to walk into the centre.

Review 50:Excellent value for money. Hotel recently updated, very clean and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We liked it!

Review 51:Very small room considering it was a premium room. We thought it poor value. Including breakfast in the room price would be a big improvement.

Review 52:Spotless room and helpful staff.

Review 53:Book in time was After 6 pm And hotel was about 20 minute walk from city centre along dirty streets

Review 54:Basic hotel that was modern clean with friendly staff Medium sized rooms with all facilities We didn't have breakfast and this was an extra cost Off street car parking behind hotel and having a balcony for our room was great Price was good

Review 55:Not aware of any air conditioning in our room--may need to check this if visiting in summer months.

Review 56:Helpful staff, close to city centre, secure parking.

Review 57:Could have done with darker curtains and as we were at the front, there was a lot of road noise even though it was double glazed. It was a bit hot in the room, although a fan was provided for our use.

Review 58:We stayed for the Circuit de Remparts Weekend and the hotel gave us a personal space in the car park for our classic car. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was large and bed very comfortable. Plenty of variety for breakfast.

Review 59:The parking situation can be difficult if you don't arrive early enough to get one of the 9 places. There is on street parking at the front of the hotel but not always available close to hand.

Review 60:Our main problem was with the parking but the hotel staff solved this by moving one of their cars onto the road so that we could park in private at the back of the hotel. The breakfast was more than satisfactory for this type of hotel.

Review 61:Our first room (we were able to change) was unsatisfactory, being on the small side and requiring updating; odour of cigarettes/tobacco which was unpleasant.

Review 62:Close proximity to town centre. Helpful staff who were happy to answer queries and moved us to an alternative room as the initial room was unsatisfactory. The breakfast was very good.

Review 63:breakfast price seemed very high compared to the price of the room itself.

Review 64:very comfortable, safe free parking, good breakfast selection, good budget price.

Review 65:It was quiet - the soundproofing works - and the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast arrgts/quality are quite good for a small hotel. Staff response to medical emergency late at night was excellent - first aid kit available and the staff member knew how to use it, called hospital service, got a taxi organised very quickly, etc. and briefed the driver to explain the circumstances in French at the hospital. Altogether a first-rate response.

Review 66:We stayed one night which was a Saturday. There was no air conditioningso left the windows open because of the heat.Big mistake. Cars roaringdown the road outside in a constant stream all night.Shouting youths, loud music at 5am. Angouleme was deserted all day compared to home butlike a episode of booze britain at night. Presume this is only weekendproblem and wouldn't have noticed if I had kept the windows shut.Should't reflect on hotel I suppose but didn't sleep a wink.

Review 67:The location was a 15 minute walk to the centre. The room and bathroomwere clean and modern. The breakfast was good .The staff were helpful andparking was right behind the hotel.

Review 68:First impressions were poor.hotel room was outdated and the top coversof the bedding looked dirty .the cushion on the bed were filthy andshould be thrown out. Compared to other hotels in france we have stayedin this was the poorest.

Review 69:To say 'city centre' is straining the facts a little. It is a short (15 minutes) walk to the beginning of the historic area.

Review 70:The staff - happy, helpful, enabling. Undercover parking. Not 'luxury' but a good place to stay.

Review 71:Not the easiest Hotel to find when approacing from the North, even with a SatNav, due to Roads recently being made as Cul de Sacs. Suggest the "road be programmed" rather than mapping co-ordinates.

Review 72:Clean and comfortable

Review 73:Minimal wardrobe and storage facilities; smaller room than we hadexpected, though slightly compensated for by the balcony.

Review 74:The helpfulness of the owners and staff; the generous breakfast; theexcellent maintenance of the hotel; the soundproofing of the rooms; theexcellent Wi-Fi connection.

Review 75:Issue with ventilation. Double windows prevent air circulation and theatmosphere in the room was not great. The street is too noisy to leavethe windows open.

Review 76:Very clean room. The room is very well insulated with double windows. Nonoise from the street at all.

Review 77:We would have liked the hotel more if it had wardrobes in the bedroomsinstead of a small area with about six coat-hangers and the restshelves.Bathroom very good, but the lighting was poor and you couldn'tsee to shave properly.

Review 78:It was good to find that a small hotel in a large city had parkingfacilities.

Review 79:When I carry the luggage and walk for 20 minutes to check-in in theafternoon, there's no one there. The door was locked. And there's nonotes on the door as to whom I can call. I call the hotel, and surethere's no one answer. I asked the shop next to the hotel, the bosssaid that this hotel is usually like this: closed in theafternoon!!!! There were many customers who got blocked outside thedoor just like me. Afterwards I call and they said they emailed me.They did. But for a foreign tourist or person on business tour, whocan check the email anytime? If not for prepaid online, I would notgo back to stay in the hotel.

Review 80:Restricted Sunday check in hours

Review 81:Friendly, generous, and helpful reception staff, comfortable bed, close to market

Review 82:Restaurants good, the walk from the hotel lonely on the way back at night.

Review 83:Parking good, breakfast very good

Review 84:well organized. quick service. clean! good quality finish of the room. a good french 3 star hotel.

Review 85:my room was quiet small, nothing else to complain!
