Reviews for El Oceano Beach Hotel

Review 1:Given a front room overlooking the sea which was good but it was right above the party area and being just before Christmas, we were unable to hear ourselves speak in our room from about 7.30pm until midnight and we went out to eat rather than enjoy a peaceful evening in the hotel after a tiring day. It seemed strange to put us in a room above a party knowing a party was booked in especially as the hotel was far from full.

Review 2:Excellent staff. First class dinner with friends in the Restaurant. Lovely location

Review 3:Live music went on until 11pm but it is a minor niggle.

Review 4:Excellent restaurant, staff and fantastic view. Room very comfortable. It really is a very nice place to stay.

Review 5:Hairdryer was very poor Indoor Jacuzzi was cold The entertainment finished too early (11.20pm) - however we made our own party in the room.

Review 6:Rooms, Beautiful! Staff were GREAT , HAPPY & HELPFUL Food was beautiful English Speaking Easy going

Review 7:we had no complaints

Review 8:Off season but the weather was pleasant. No crowds. Great facility right on water. Able to walk to many shops, restaurants and bars. The staff very helpful and cheerful. The room was as expected/advertised.

Review 9:The staff were friendly and almost immediately we warmed to this hotel. Food was to a high standard of both presentation and flavour. The bar service was good and evening entertainment was great

Review 10:Allocated room on arrival.

Review 11:Upgraded to a sea view room as superior double room was in a poor location just behind bar on ground floor with a disappointing outlook of sloped garden.

Review 12:Prices. 11 euro for a simple sandwich. Gnocchi with dinner was not even home made. Not even fresh orange juice with breakfast. Everywhere in Spain, even the cheapest place, has got fresh bean coffee but here you get instant coffee from a bravilor i think by breakfast. 22 euro for an overcooked risotto. We've eaten for the same amount the best paella ever made on a busy square in malaga with the two of us!!!

Review 13:Very comfortable hotel. The porter was very nice and helpful. The rest of the staff was like the guests, without humour/enjoying themselves. Prices like in Holland or even more expensive, which is way too high for Spain in low season.

Review 14:Beds were a little too firm and wifi in room was very slow

Review 15:A superb location with excellent facilities and very attentive staff. The dining experience is second to none for quality and presentation with views to die for.

Review 16:Such a shame the room was called a mini suite and although the room was large with a settee the view was awful. On the ground floor and facing the plastic wind sheeting of the restaurant wall with no aspect at all and all the associated noise that went with dining guests. Being popular there are several parties and weddings and on Saturday night and it seemed like all day on Sunday it was best to go out as its was noise and parties all the time. As a first time visitor it would have been so much better to have been offered a room with a sea view even if the room was smaller and with less facilities?

Review 17:Friendly attentive staff. Superb food.

Review 18:First room allocated was poor with regards to the air con unit being stuck together with sellotape and vibrating profusely so making a lot of noise. We requested to move to another room which was accommodated on the ground floor.

Review 19:Location wise can't beat it!

Review 20:one slight problem for older guests is the lack of a small handrail when showering, when its slippy it just gives that little bit of security.

Review 21:the overall ambiance of the hotel, plus the very attentive staff.

Review 22:the staff were great and happy our room was so lovely everything u would want was there pool bar was just perfect good people watching the meal in evening was special the view i loved and breakfast was delightful no busy buffet here! table service only will be back absolutely!

Review 23:Nothing but live music played in the restaurant was a bit loud when trying to talk to people. Would be better if not played through all the speakers around the room which it seemed to be.

Review 24:Food served throughout was very good. Plenty of choice to suit all tastes

Review 25:There was nothing that we found we didn't like about the hotel, we will however hire a car for our return as taxis can be costly when out and about.

Review 26:The El Oceano is in a stunning location - the view for us was alone worth the money! The hotel staff are SO nice, we especially want to mention Ignacious, Juan (dog) and Tim. Planning our return visit already.......

Review 27:Could not book restaurant for evening meal without show, set menu only, would be nice if there was an area with normal menu. Not ideal if you like sandy beaches.

Review 28:Great staff, lovely hotel, food and drinks.

Review 29:Nothing to dislike!

Review 30:Absolutely LOVE this little gem of a Hotel! Our mini Suite was beautiful and overlooked the sea. The staff are fantastic and the Sunday Lunch with entertainment is fabulous!

Review 31:Rooms could perhaps do with a little modernisation?

Review 32:The most friendly staff; the best standard of food; the best place to chill and the best place to party!

Review 33:Having to go home after such a great week.

Review 34:We really enjoyed our weeks holiday & definitely would recommend this hotel. The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was very relaxing, the food & entertainment were great.

Review 35:Didn't get a balcony which would have been excellent. As a 'sporty' person I was disappointed with the gym.

Review 36:Location was excellent, as were the staff and also the food.

Review 37:Had to pay for the little bottles of water in the room, which would not have mattered if we had been told before hand. Left a great holiday moaning about been charged for water. Happiness is in the detail.

Review 38:A little oasis in an area of ordinariness. The staff were good, very friendly and tried all the time to be attentive and helpful. They do well at making you feel special. Great patio area, well thought out with great view of the sea. There are many resorts that I would like to pick the hotel up and take with me.

Review 39:No hot water on morning we were leaving Very expat feel to the place/Sunday lunch which runs into the evening is just one big drinking session and most people in hotel bar were drunk by 10pm when we arrived back at hotel

Review 40:Fabulous views/Lovely pool area/Fantastic Restaurant

Review 41:Nothing. I struggled a bit with the wi fi but that may have just been me so churlish to complain.

Review 42:Staff were superb as was owner who made himself known and was always on call but, overall, staff.

Review 43:The crowds of people who took over the pool area most days drinkingexcessively with thumping music. We were made to feel like we wereintruding when in the pool.

Review 44:The staff were superb and the location was great if your room was facingthe sea front.

Review 45:We wanted to eat lunch in the hotel and hadn't made a booking as we just wanted a light snack. We were made to feel a little like to we causing an inconvenience which I didn't expect as a hotel guest.

Review 46:Lovely quiet hotel. Nice as a young couple without children to enjoy the area and the quiet. Nice location of sun loungers looking over the sea

Review 47:Some of the restaurant staff were really quite rude at times.

Review 48:Lovely pool area, really great vibe with a broad age range of guests, food was really nice too. The pool bar staff were really great and the porter was the sweetest guy, despite knowing very little English and U.S. Knowing no Spanish at all, he was always very friendly.

Review 49:Bed was a bit lumpy, toilet seat was loose and wouldn't stay up which was reported but never fixed.

Review 50:The luxury of the sunbathing & pool area one with pool bar. Also great staff.

Review 51:The pool, bar and restaurant were great, and all the food we had was excellent. Walks along the beach and boardwalk were lovely. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. We relaxed completely and had a wonderful break.

Review 52:1St room was smaller than paid for, 2nd room was dark and smelly, 3rdwould have cost more bc of ocean view but was next to bar and restaurantbut no ocean view and very noisy.

Review 53:Free parking

Review 54:I wouldn't exactly call these bad experiences but we didn't know you needed to book a table at the pool after the Sunday lunch. Overall the staff and service is fabulous but there are a couple of staff that are not up to the standard of the others and came across as rude on occasion. The gym - it's very small. If you like to exercise whilst on holiday the Boardwalk in front of the hotel is a better option for a run/power walk.

Review 55:The food in the restaurant was fabulous. The restaurant entertainment is also great. The Sunday lunch is a must do. I would recommend dining about 3.30pm.

Review 56:Make sure you book a table in the restaurant before you arrive as the restaurant gets very busy due to a high influx of non-residents every night. Ask for a table with sea view.

Review 57:The room was really comfortable as were the sun beds. The views from the sun terrace and restaurant were gorgeous.

Review 58:Arrived just after lunch on Sunday and found ourselves in the middle of inebriated expat party complete with loud music, bad language and overstretched staff. A bad experience!

Review 59:Enjoyed the terrace restaurant and the sea views

Review 60:Nothing - all exceeded my expectations.

Review 61:Amazing hotel - attention to detail is second to none. Rooms were clean, spacious and well equipped with all amenities. Restaurant views were stunning, food fantastic - a real step apart from a lot of other local restaurants. Breakfast plentiful and also fantastic. Pool area amazing - sun loungers luxuriously comfy and towels a-plenty. Pool bar fantastic - staff so attentive and friendly, cocktails are some of the best I have tasted! Pool itself is clean and heated - a rarity in Spain!

Review 62:Sometimes difficult to enjoy pool if poolside bar very busy.

Review 63:Brilliant location, lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Excellent food and location of the restaurant. Enjoyed Jersey Boys entertainment.

Review 64:The studio rooms are unnecessarily and significantly cramped because of a coffee table and tub chairs between bed and TV/dressing table. Not needed. The kitchen area was inadequately equipped and maintained and our overall conclusion was that it offered no advantage over a traditional hotel suite (couldn't have cooked anything worthwhile even if we'd had the inclination).

Review 65:The location was perfect - peaceful, beachfront & v short walk to beach and town via excellent Boardwalk. Pool area very swish, luxurious and clean, although space is at a premium. Food in restaurant and views over ocean superb.

Review 66:We lived this beautiful small family run hotel. Great position on the sea front but quiet and peaceful. Lots if personal touches and fantastic pool area and bar.

Review 67:Hotel staff were a bit brusque particularly at receptions! Reception area was very poorly designed and creates a rather second rate initial impression of hotel. Bathroom was minuscule and had a foul smell at times.

Review 68:Hotel has wonderful outlook onto Mediterranean if staying in sea view room which naturally comes at higher cost!

Review 69:Far too many English there! Also we had a studio which was quite expensive and very small with no lift.

Review 70:Really well run hotel with excellent facilities

Review 71:My room was very close to reception so I could hear everybody chatting late into the night, trying to get to sleep was a bit difficult. However when I mentioned this when checking out, my drinks bill that was booked to my room was free of charge by way of apology.

Review 72:The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Fantastic location with stunning views.

Review 73:They wanted to charge €15 for a very small birthday cake. We spent over €800 and they wouldn't refumd a bottle of cave we didn't drink. Small thing really let them down. I've been loyal for years but sadly won't be going back.

Review 74:I've been going here for 20 years or so both work and pleasure. It was my 50 Awesome place but a few things let me down. My girlfriend upgraded us to jacuzzi suite which was great

Review 75:Having to come home .....

Review 76:Great atmosphere at dinner with top class band and a close hand magician doing the rounds. Also a genuine double bed in Spain

Review 77:The only thing that would have made our stay better would be if the pool was heated. I realize we were early in the season Aprill 1st.The poolside bar was great and the bar tender was also attentive to the sun deck area.

Review 78:This hotel is right on the water with a three mile boardwalk that will take you along the beach into the nearby town. All of the staff were very helpful and very courteous. We are from Seattle and we will defiantly be back.

Review 79:we had three problems with our studio which were quickly resolved,be aware the studios are not in the main hotel.

Review 80:the whole ambiance of the hotel is excellent, the food, service, and situation of the pool area is good, also a few steps from back of hotel is a long boardwalk for strolling, also ignazio who assists with the luggage is a little ray of sunshine,

Review 81:Nothing bothered us except perhaps a little bit out of the way which could have made walking back in the night an unsettling experience. However the hotel provided entertainment which was very welcome. Particularly the violinist Quique.

Review 82:Attentive staff. Good restaurant with varied menu. General surroundings

Review 83:Food expensive Marble steps in the superior room were a fall hazard Rates quoted were ex VAT. I was caught out.

Review 84:Good food Good location next to the new beach walk Excellent large room with good view

Review 85:That I had to go home... But me & my family and friends are returning in June 2015 already booked!

Review 86:Location Cleanliness outstanding Staff could not do enough for you Nothing was a problem Swimming pool and lounge area was excellent Rooms 100%

Review 87:Didn't like the direct access from the walk way at the back of the hotel straight onto the sunbathing area.

Review 88:The hotel has a luxurious feel and look and the staff are great!!

Review 89:The Mosquitos and flies

Review 90:We loved everything about the hotel. It was peaceful with excellent food and outstanding service. Management and staff have put a lot of effort into providing a beautiful place to stay. Great attention to detail.

Review 91:The simple fact is this place is like something out of TOWIE. If you're an English person who wants sunshine abroad but wants to think they're still in England then this is the place for you! This is a piece of Essex / Liverpool….. NOT Spain. The constant musical entertainment (if you can call it that) reminded me of some of the very worst contestants from the X-Factor! Totally my idea of HELL.

Review 92:We found the bed very hard, we stayed in the studios

Review 93:The setting was amazing with views out to the ocean. The menu was excellent . We had a very relaxing week and will defiantly return.

Review 94:The sea view was obstructed by the hotel roof which was used to let the hotels dogs relieve themselves, this was very unsightly and off putting. Also constant barking.

Review 95:The location was very nice, however it was situated next to the A7 dual carriage way which meant when you were sitting on your balcony the noise from the traffic was very loud.

Review 96:Loved everything! The style of the hotel, lovely beach location, the warm welcome & friendly atmosphere, the excellent food & entertainment, We had a brilliant stay & def will be going back!

Review 97:indoor pool and gym is small if you are relying on using indoor facilities

Review 98:Staff were extremely friendly and provided excellent customer service from the cleaners to the management without exception Standard of the hotel generally was excellent

Review 99:The hotel needs to be touch up, paint work gone flat in places. Having been there twice and on both occasions we had weddings on, so be came second class guest It's well over priced for a night .

Review 100:Well a very nice hotel with a great view, would like have a main hotel room if I go there again.!!!

Review 101:Had to be moved because of noise but paid for junior suite but had no sea view and facing back of restaurant where they had entertainment so if you wanted a early night was just not possible .

Review 102:Food was good and we did get moved to another room which was much quiter.

Review 103:- the wi-fi connection was poor - no fresh fruit juice which i find outrageous for a 4* hotel - the lack of choices for breakfast, there were english breakfast and continental and we would have liked a mixt one: like ham and cheese and croissant and yogurt - the breakfast coffee: we would have preferred to have the milk on the side, not poured directly by the waiter

Review 104:- the location on the beach side - helpful staff - clean rooms although our room couch was smelly - there were jacuzzi and gymnasium available - the restaurant was great with sea view on the terace, live music, good wines, superbe atmosphere

Review 105:Nothing

Review 106:Great value for money, location to die for! Dinner was superb, staff and service excellent. Stayed in a superior double, fantastic size and well equipped. Terrace is superb, great views.

Review 107:Bathroom needed update. Food expensive vat not included on any prices! No drinking water supplied 'Suite' was an ordinary bedroom Totally English

Review 108:Sea views from restaurant Evening entertainment

Review 109:We had issues immediately with key cards & I must have gone to reception 10-15 times over the course of our stay to get replacements which was quite annoying. I know about electronics & keycards so I had them well separated which was all the more frustrating! Staff were always helpful but it was an unnecessary hassle. We were told on check-in that we'd been upgraded "slightly" but I'm skeptical.. Our room was absolutely beautiful with an extremely comfortable bed, however it was quite small. Perhaps the lovely large bed (not twins pushed together for a change!) was a sacrifice we had to make in the space! A lot of manoeuvring had to be done to pass each other & looking at the fire escape plan on the door, ours was the smallest room on the floor! I'd take the bed any day though as its a small sacrifice for a great nights sleep! I feel that breakfast should be included in the room rate. Paying an extra €7.50/€9 p.p. every day doesn't reflect the hotel standard. I would much rather pay more for my room & have breakfast included than have it added on to the bill on check-out. I just feel its one less thing to consider if its already included. The "Put it on the room" ethos can result in a pretty hefty bill as is! The location of the hotel, while magnificent, is a tad remote. There aren't any shops, bars or restaurants in the immediate vicinity, however if you're prepared to walk, you'll find some within 5 - 20 minutes walk of the hotel. A rental car is probably a good idea if you want to do a bit of sightseeing in the area.

Review 110:From the outset, staff were very welcoming & efficient. Rooms are cleaned daily with optional towel replacement. Cleaning is of a very high standard. Comfortable dressing gowns & slippers provided which was lovely. A loose door handle in our bathroom was repaired straight away which proves my point about staff efficiency. Soft, fluffy towels are available at the pool daily, one per person, which is a great service & takes the hassle out of having to go ask at reception like in other hotels. The pool itself is gorgeous & immaculately kept. We stayed here for 6 nights & attended a friends wedding during that time. It was fantastic from start to finish! The ceremony between the ocean & a white grand piano was just beautiful & the drinks reception around the pool area was so relaxing with a great drinks service & lovely canapes! Service was exceptional & the food exquisite. Every guest I spoke to raved about how wonderful it was. There are plenty of cushioned sun loungers overlooking the ocean & they were the most comfortable I've ever had the pleasure to sunbathe on! An added bonus is staff in the pool bar coming around occasionally to take drinks orders. Its probably for the best that they close at 6p.m. or one could be very tipsy! Drinks aren't cheap but that said a bottle of Moet is €65 at the pool bar which isn't extortionate given the luxury of your surroundings while enjoying it! Sunday lunch is as delicious as the precious reviews described! Prawn cocktail was full of fresh & juicy prawns & the fillet of beef cooked to perfection. Overall, we loved our stay in El Oceano & will recommend it to friends looking for a relaxing, luxurious hotel with high standards in customer service.

Review 111:nothing to dislike about the hotel.

Review 112:Food, staff, facilities, entertainment, location and poolside all excellent. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Review 113:No beach. Poor value for money. The hotel gave priority to a wedding couple and their guests who completely dominated the pool area and staff resources. They also made a lot of noise when returning to their rooms late at night.

Review 114:Good location with nice sea views. Staff were helpful and friendly. Free wifi throughout the hotel. Free car parking.

Review 115:It was our third time staying at El Oceano and I can't wait until the next time! Absolutely superb in every way ... Amazing place, highly recommended for anyone who wants to relax in a little luxury!

Review 116:The beds are very uncomfortable & pillows ..should invest in better quality & charge for feather pillows ...

Review 117:Beach bar VIP area very good staff & music ..

Review 118:The events happening at the hotel e.g. Weddings caused some disruption to our relaxation around the pool. The pool towels procedure caused issues around the pool area as it was difficult to know if beds were in use or not. This could have been alleviated by having a bin to put used towels in as you left the pool area rather than leaving them on be beds. Also, many people reserving beds!

Review 119:The pool area was the highlight of the facilities, providing a swim up bar with friendly staff. The gym had a good range of equipment but due to the lack of air conditioning it did make the experience uncomfortable at times (August). The restaurant served fine quality of food, and staff were attentive to our needs.

Review 120:A little bit pricey. Prices quoted should include all taxes.

Review 121:Everything.! Pool bar was excellent. Loungers were top quality. Food was top class. Staff were attentive and good fun. Spa was all it should be. Everything is well run in this hotel.

Review 122:I don't think the superior rooms should be marketed as superior as they are the hotel's basic rooms it is a bit misleading Sunday lunch is really popular with non residents so if you want to swim in the pool and enjoy the facilities as a resident this is difficult

Review 123:the staff the food the sea view the beauticians at the spa were fantastic

Review 124:Being South African - we found this hotel has become beyond our affordability of our weak Rand ( R 15.95 to one Euro.) Worst hamburger we ever had. Also the room had kettle and cups but limited provision on coffee, tea and especially sugar.

Review 125:Location with sea view.

Review 126:Poor pool food offerings. Quite noisy from adjacent rooms.

Review 127:Proximity to Puerto Banus but much better value. Excellent adult only hotel with a tranquil pool and bar area. The staff were generally very helpful. There were good amenities around the hotel if one did not want to travel afar.

Review 128:Not a good location, and there is two buildings and one is 3 star, not 4 as is sold and it is behind the fence of hotel premises and beside highway!

Review 129:Nice breakfast area.

Review 130:we stayed in an nice room in a seperate building next to the main hotel near the car park. we were on third floor but be warned there is no lifdt and by the time i had carried our cases up i was exausted. I was surprised no one fro m the gitel offered to take our bags. The hotel is siuated on the cliff abiove the sea and there are plenty of steps so notto good for young or quite eldery.

Review 131:This is an excellent hotel for couples and the restaraunt was first class as was the pool and swim up bar. Overall tghis hotel was very good but its not a family type hotel so no good for young children which suited me fine,

Review 132:Cocktail prices little space by the pool area

Review 133:Restaurant menu / quality of food Great ambiance and services both at the pool, restaurant and reception. Room prices

Review 134:We have stayed in the Studios building (different from the main building) which is not so well placed for having a sea view (not at all for the ground floor rooms) and which is more exposed to street noise (particularly disturbing at the morning early hours). We would also have two suggestions for the owners that - in our opinion - would make this venue even better than it is today (and today is really good!): - a buffet breakfast would probably widen the choice of food and would not force the customers to order more than they can really eat; - a sea water swimming pool would be a great plus as long as bathing into the sea is problematic for most of the year in this region, due to cold sea water.

Review 135:- Great location. - Extremely skillful and friendly staff. - Live, quality, entertainment every evening in the terrace restaurant, to include music and illusionism. - Sandy beaches in within walking distance. - All holiday activities that you can imagine are within a short driving distance: water sports, boat renting/rides, shopping, picturesque locations, cultural/historical destinations (Malaga, Gibraltar).

Review 136:This was our second stay at El Oceano. We really enjoyed our visit in July. The staff are so welcoming and helpful and the facilities are excellent. We will definitely be back.

Review 137:We didn't dislike anything

Review 138:From the minute we arrived to the time we left, everything was perfect! The room was beautiful, fantastic food, the staff could not do enough for you.

Review 139:No room service in studio. Bed uncomfortable. It was not dirty but could have been cleaner. I had to ask cleaners to clean floors. Spider in bed. Pool parties with loud music seemed out of character with hotel reviews.

Review 140:Pool area and view. Great staff. Great food. Could have been excellent.

Review 141:Such a wonderful little hotel with a real intimate feeling and private setting. Staff were fantastic and the good was outstanding. Definitely one to visit
