Reviews for Hotel Saint Jacques
Review 1:The low beam in the middle of our bathroom which i walked into when going to the toilet in the night, cutting my lip
Review 2:It was easy to find and we had a secure place to put our bikes. Really good location and easy to walk into the centre.
Review 3:Our first night was spent in a basic room which was small and on a busy road but which was adequate for our one night stopover. I would book through the owners who do speak English in future. We would return. You can see the chateau from round the corner and the view is stunning especially at night. Something you don't see from the centre of the town.
Review 4:Very convenient for the town. Better than being in the middle. Calm environment . Excellent service when an emergency arose and we needed two extra nights and a more spacious room. Lovely owners who really care about their clients. Nearby pizza and Chinese restaurants were very handy for takeaways as we were unable to go out.
Review 5:Very noisy, on the main route into town. Lots of noisy people arriving throughout the night, doors slamming, talking and laughing. Hard bed and tiny pillows. Very poor night's sleep. Would not stay here again.
Review 6:Close to the town. Good shower. Clean.
Review 7:Wi-fi was very weak in the room.
Review 8:Location made it easy to walk to old town and the restaurants. Place was very tastefully decorated and the breakfast service was lovely
Review 9:Some noise in the early hours caused by young drinkers on their way home.
Review 10:The location of this hotel is excellent just south of the river. It is very well maintained and the staff are very helpfull with advice about where to eat etc. Loved our one night stay and will use hotel again.
Review 11:Very nice hotel with a pleasant and helpful owner. We stayed in avery spacious bedroom in the annex with a roomy bathroom. Only a few minutes walk into the old part of town.
Review 12:The two star level of the hotel was firmly on view with the extensive tatty collections of brochures and advertisements on every floor and along the staircase. Despite the hotel being on the principal northerly route into Chinon, there was no effort to relieve the room we stayed in from the extensive and very early traffic noise as it was necessary to open the windows due to the lack of ventilation. The manageress seemed unable to present an agreeable and conciliatory approach when confronted with issues that required a degree of compromise. In fact we still discuss her attitude as a benchmark for 'how not to handle a customer'.
Review 13:Decent parking along with a handy storage area for bicycles made this a convenient hotel for a quick stop in Chinon. Breakfast was unexpectedly acceptable with good coffee, croissants, baguettes, and homemade preserves.
Review 14:No tea/coffee making facilities in room.
Review 15:Room was comfortable, Free Wi-fi, Nice breakfast choice, Friendly staff, Location (short walk from town) free parking on site.
Review 16:WiFi problems during stay. Not owner's fault.
Review 17:Friendly owners who made us feel special and well looked after. Bright, airy and very clean. Just across the bridge but away from the crowds. Good parking with lockable bike shed. Nice rooms.
Review 18:On south bank so need to walk across bridge to Fortress and restaurants
Review 19:Good for short stay in Chinon
Review 20:location and helpfulness of staff.
Review 21:The management was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotless and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 22:Traffic Noise
Review 23:Good Location
Review 24:Central to Chinon and travelling to chateux in the region. Comfortable room and good facilities.
Review 25:Fire alarm sounded in wee small hours - technical fault. Manager most apologetic.
Review 26:Car parking on site was tight but convenient.
Review 27:The owners were very friendly and the location was great, just a short walk across the river to the centre of town.
Review 28:Place felt a bit tired
Review 29:OK for an overnight stay
Review 30:Sympathy of the staff Location and cleanliness
Review 31:Nothing
Review 32:Breakfast was great Easy walk to town Easy to find
Review 33:Breakfast bread and croissants of mediocre quality considering price of breakfast.
Review 34:Friendly welcome at hotel.
Review 35:Need to walk into the town centre to eat on Saturday night!
Review 36:The friendly welcome Relaxed Parking in from of the hotel
Review 37:Wifi not always possible.
Review 38:Central location, good sized room, parking.
Review 39:Location - easy walk across the river. Friendly & helpful staff. Homely and comfortable. Roomy accommodation.
Review 40:Nice room and friendly staff, good location
Review 41:Toilet should have an external vent.
Review 42:Very nice proprietors. Location is good, easy parking and right near the bridge to the town center.
Review 43:The owners were very helpful. The Auberge room was very roomy, a treat after some of the very small hotel rooms we had encountered. The Auberge is within walking distance of Chinon attractions. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
Review 44:The host was really nice and was very helpful, further the room was spacious and clean. Perfect for the price. Also its just 5 minutes walking distance from the main square.
Review 45:Nothing really - it is a basic, no frills, comfortable hotel. Good for sleeping and showering, no communal rooms and not the sort of bedroom you'd sit around in.
Review 46:Excellent location in Chinon. Perfectly adequate basic French hotel; clean, hot water, good shower, wifi. Very good breakfast (unusually for small French hotels in our experience).
Review 47:The bill presented at checkout was 15% more than that quoted by Booking.com at booking. It was impossible to query this properly because of language problems. The hotel didn't know 4th room that I'd booked, but this wasn't a problem.
Review 48:Friendly staff, good location, excellent breakfast. Basic, clean rooms with adequate en suite bathrooms.
Review 49:Blanket instead of duvet. No tea making facilities.
Review 50:For a two star hotel this was much better than we expected. The owner was friendly and spoke very good English. The facilities were basic, blanket on bed instead of duvet, but very clean. TV, shower, hair dryer, and most important private parking. My advice is to pay the extra for breakfast, you won't be disappointed, it was better than one we had in a much more expensive hotel in France.
Review 51:Very hospitable and helpful couple, excellent service and very friendly. Quiet tucked away street off the main roads and with excellent parking facilities, We will definitely use this again when passing through Chinon
Review 52:Nothing. It is a gem
Review 53:Everything - Genuine, very friendly, authentic (so rare). Full of local knowledge and great advice to help us enjoy the area. They provide the best breakfast - much better than other much more expensive and gourmet hotels. The location is also perfect.
Review 54:Nothing - you can't complain if the reception of a small hotel closes early on a Sunday evening!
Review 55:Characterful place, very helpful, friendly owner/staff, good breakfast, no fuss, extremely central and quiet, good bathroom and shower.
Review 56:We took advice from this website and did not book a hotel in the town due to parking problems. This hotel is just across the river - a five minute walk to the town centre and with a great view of the castle on the way. The staff were welcoming and friendly. There is a lift up to the chateau from the town - the site is well worth a visit.
Review 57:Room in the attic was very hot - couldn't leave the window open at night because of the traffic noise. No lift to get luggage up 2 flights of stairs.
Review 58:Nice and near the town but without the noise. Very clean and friendly.
Review 59:Great couple run this hotel - so friendly and helpful. The rooms are bright and airy - lovely and clean, and have great facilities. I would definitely stay here again as it is near to everything, but across a beautiful river leading to Chinon old town and the castle.
Review 60:Lovely little hotel. Spent 2 nights here and enjoyed being able to walk all around Chinon and not have to use the car. Lovely breakfast and owners very welcoming.
Review 61:Hotel is on opposite side of river to town centre but a very easy walk across a bridge. It was quiet and comfortable and we slept well. The room (no 12) was basic but adequate. We didn't have breakfast. Chinon is a great little town - plenty of history especially at the fortress, really good restaurants and local vineyards to visit as well as many chateaux within easy driving distance. We went to Azay le Rideau, Villandry and Usse all in a day - all quite different, beautiful and interesting.
Review 62:Could hear other people's bathroom/plumbing.
Review 63:Very friendly and courteous welcome. Comfortable bed. Small, family hotel with very nice owners.
Review 64:The staff was friendly and explained the facilities and layout clearly. All facilities were clean and well appointed. The location is quiet, car park on site and is very close to Chinon centre. All in all, it is a place to use to enjoy, as we have, again.
Review 65:A very nice hotel right on the river banks which lends itself well to a comfortable stop while touring the French countryside. Super helpful staff and a fair price. Chinon is a very friendly village
Review 66:The price of beer in France is astronomical
Review 67:The beer
