Reviews for Hotel Alfonso
Review 1:Breakfast poor. At 10, closes buffet breakfast. The hotel has a pool, but additional fee for bathrobe.
Review 2:Excellent location, quality cleaning services
Review 3:TV broke on a second day, strange smell in the corridor, no flip-flops (although should be included in the room).
Review 4:Hospitality, comfort, peace and quiet, decent breakfast.
Review 5:We couldn't open the windows but they have aircon.
Review 6:Everything, pool, breakfast, they even had "pan con tomate", what I like. Right in the city center and parking close by.
Review 7:We were told there was allocated parking but due to a fiesta we were prevented by the police in entering the parking - no where else to park so had to visit another city - hotel offered us no compensation as we had paid in advance - very poor
Review 8:There was an odd smell on the 9th floor, something like sewage which partially extended to my room. In the hotel restaurant I got the sirloin and without being asked I got a "segnan" version, which should not be a standard way of serving the meat. On top of that, the waitress did not ask anything when she saw i left the steak untouched and only when I made a comment did she say i should have said something before. I was obviously charged the dish normally. More attention to the guest from the restaurant is expected for a 4 star hotel.
Review 9:I loved the location, the fact the room was spacy, the cleanliness of the room, the design objects in the lobby and the friendliness of the staff. I would definitely recommend also the massages offered through external physiotherapists. Very competent and at fair prices. The breakfast is also quite good.
Review 10:The hotel was quite difficult to find with the car. Parking expensive, but you are in a city centre with difficult parking .Do not ask for a quiet room as you can be stuck at the back with another wall for a view.
Review 11:We thought the decor lovely .The staff very helpful .We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 12:The roof pool was shut - but good weather can't really be predicted in mid October, so it's understandable.
Review 13:the room. Very clean and good facilities. The bathroom was excellent.
Review 14:Kitchenette with no crockery or cutlery Water lukewarm at best even after maintenance call
Review 15:Great position Lovely staff Large quiet suite though a little tired
Review 16:Accessability by car was a bit restricted No free parking possible in that area. One day in the garage costs.
Review 17:the room was very big and luxurious. The breakfast was good and the Hotel very professional
Review 18:Hard to find even with sat nav . There is no parking at hotel and although reserved parking was available nearby(not free) , it was very hard to find in the confusing traffic layout. On our arrival, the receptionist was very rude- not appreciated after a long ,hot journey. I tried to put it down to language difficulties but on reflection was just bad manners . Fortunately other staff members were very polite and friendly
Review 19:Great city centre location .We spent two nights in this stunning hotel. We stayed in a suite which was the most stunning, spacious room we had stayed in on our holiday and was great value. Good service (generally)friendly , helpful staff.
Review 20:All is good ... to use the gym you need to walk a few minutes to a sister hotel but the Alfonso has a good pool.
Review 21:Friendly and an excellent place to stay on business. Excellent location
Review 22:No Brush for toilet bowl No toilet bidet in many rooms No service room in the night you cant ask for mineral water at the reception in the night too.
Review 23:extraordinary location
Review 24:No English Pushy and unfriendly Room not clean Beds very small
Review 25:The a/c was on our head We both were sick after the night The room is badly conceived Impressive from first look but not practical at all Hated the hotel
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:Superb location for a walk round the city, spacious well presented rooms. Overall a modern large friendly hotel. What more could you want for a reasonable price.
Review 28:View of pit inside building (ask for outside room); internet is slow; poor has only a few chairs and they are very uncomfortable.
Review 29:Great downtown location; great breakfast buffet
Review 30:We booked for a room with double bed but they just gave us a room with two single beds and didn't change us to any other room because the hotel was full
Review 31:Perfect location, comfortable rooms, great breakfast and nice rooftop pool
Review 32:I got into my hotel room, the toilet had the "These services have been hygienically cleaned" sign on it, but there was pubic hair on the seat, and in the toilet, it was generally dirty inside out. I immediately complained. I got the reply that I have to wait until the morning, or I can get a smoking room. I gave up, went back to the room, looked at the bathtub which was also covered with hair. It was not even washed with water. I complained again, I again was offered a smoking room, I did not accept it and finally got another room. There both the toilet and the bathtub was with hair again, though to a less extent. I gave up trying further. Made some photos to document. Next day I am sitting in my room and someone opens the door. It was another guest. They accidentally gave him my room. At the reception part of the staff has problems even with basic English. All of this is unacceptable from any hotel but especially from a 4 star one, which is one of the expensive ones in the city.
Review 33:The hotel is at a very good spot, close to the old city center and to the tramline. The breakfast is really delicious, lots of choices, there is also specialty of the day.
Review 34:Difficult to find, and no car park of its own, but this was a minor problem in the grand scheme of things.
Review 35:Lovely decor. Fabulous breakfast selection. Very helpful staff. Summer outdoor rooftop pool! What more could you want?
Review 36:Modern decor with comofortable and well-appointed rooms, excellent location. Great value! Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.
Review 37:Only complaint is that the (enormous) balcony had no furniture, so it was difficult to enjoy the balcony. A couple of chairs and an outdoor table would have made hanging out and having a drink on the balcony outstanding. Instead, we improvised and still a great time.
Review 38:Excellent location. Huge suite. Huge balcony. Amazing view of historic part of the city.
Review 39:Pool is small (read: tiny) and freezing cold. Gym is laughably bad - few pieces of decade dated equipment in an empty hotel room. There is no vehicular access to the hotel itself.
Review 40:The roof top view is amazing even if the pool is a little small. Whilst the rooms are incredibly dated (think 70's Boogie Nights style), they're large and very comfortable. The hotel is also perfectly located for walking anywhere in the city.
Review 41:In general we lack a bit of help from the staff Lack of bellboy (we were with a baby and all the needed stuff) Never asked for a feedback of the stay (How was your stay in the hotel?) Didn't offer to ask a cab (it was pretty obvious we were needing it? Level of maintenace of the bedroom has not bad but could be improved (one bulb was hunging, part of the blinds were not working smoothly Cleanliness was not bad but not at the expected level in a 4 star hotel (dust in shelfs and a stain in the sofa) Small hole in the sheets The blinds system is hardly complicated to use (I lost 20 mins to open it) Size of the bed (only 150 cm in a suite!)
Review 42:Great views from the bedroom (It was Graus Suite) Size and views of the bedroom terrace Impressive design of the bedroom Impressive bath Comfortable Sofas
Review 43:Hair on the floor in bathroom, arrival to hotel doors by car is impossible because the hotel is located on the walking street
Review 44:Swimming pool on the roof top on 12th floor in center of the city is great!
Review 45:Bar shut by 12.00 and otherwise not well staffed - we gave up trying to get a drink there a few times
Review 46:Very comfy room and very spacious, very good central location near attractions and shopping and good restaurants.
Review 47:Breakfast was fair. Food not hot. Not enough trash cans around for us to relieve our load. Broken switch and drop down window screens and peeling wood on dresser. Ink stain in carpet.
Review 48:Location. Nice views.
Review 49:Breakfast could have been better.
Review 50:Centrally located. This is a comfortable, modern hotel. Good sized rooms and bathrooms. Rooftop swimming pool. Staff is extremely helpful, especially Estefania who helped us make phone calls when our motorcycle broke down.
Review 51:the indoor pool was closed and thé late checkout (14h instead of 12h) costs 20 euros,
Review 52:Everything except that the indoor pool was closed and thé late checkout (14h instead of 12h) costs 20 euros, à bit exagerated...
Review 53:At least, at least, you could post somewhere on your website clearexplanation of how to get to your hotel. We put your address in a gpsand we had a very hard time to find out how to get there. Try yourselfand see what happens.
Review 54:- reception staff had no knowledge of English - leakage in room 815 (water dripping from room above) - very noisy aircon and other hard noises made it difficult to sleep - no pressure on water in shower - Products at breakfast were not fresh (clearly fruit was cut te day before, and orange juice had gone bad) - extremely small pool - we requested half an hour extra checkout time but we were told that this was only available at an extra cost of 20 Euro
Review 55:Location is great
Review 56:Brilliant hotel within 5 minutes walk of everything. Stylish, clean, friendly. Front desk staff were competent and prompt. I was upgraded to a Jr Suite -- very roomy for one person, but the tub in the middle of the suite was stunning. Make sure to visit Los Victorinos for the tapas and bull heads near by.
Review 57:the room. I had to change room twice before finding an acceptable one. Breakfast is ok but nothing special. Good for business travellers but not for leisure.
Review 58:location
Review 59:Indoor pool closed as rooftop terrace and open door pool open. But this is quite small area with limited seating and 2 broken parasols so no shade. Also not often cleaned as guest lunch plates/glasses left out on the limited tables.
Review 60:Good breakfast. Excellent location. Comfortable.
Review 61:The air-con was more effective in my friend's room. The vertical blinds in the room were broken and although i reported the issue to lady at reception, the repair was ineffective. I felt a little fobbed off. Otherwise the staff were fantastic.
Review 62:great location for a city break. I felt Zaragoza was a really safe place to be out and about 24/7, a huge contrast to some of the Spanish coastal resorts i have visited.
Review 63:This hotel provided excellent service - especially with regard to useful information on what to do in and around Zaragoza. Staff were very friendly. The swimming pool on the roof was fantastic and a lovely sun trap. Rooms were clean and very comfortable.
Review 64:Windows are not sound-proof at all Cleanliness could be better (trashbin had trashes) Overall Hotel manteinance was not up to standards (rust in restroom materials, rroom light tilted, hair dryer falling...)
Review 65:Location was convenient Staff was friendly
Review 66:Just round the corner from all the main sites of interest . There may be cheaper ones in the area but the Alfonso has a pool on the roof and fabulous views . Great to relax after a day's sightseeing .
Review 67:Thought there were 2 swimming pools, but seems only one open at a time. The roof pool was too small and small terrace area overrun with guests and couldn't use it. both pools should be kept open at the same time. No fresh veg (tomatoes/cucumber) at breakfast - hey this is Spain!
Review 68:Super fast WiFi, helpful staff and central location. Varied breakfast of hot and cold offerings.
Review 69:AC would not get very cool and bathroom door jammed a couple of times, which was an inconvenience. Also, two single beds that were pushed together but made up with single sheets...
Review 70:Modern spacious room and friendly service
Review 71:Nothing whatsoever.
Review 72:Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Hotel modern, and very tastefully furnished. Roof top pool area excellent place to chill and take in views of the old town.
Review 73:Nada .
Me encanta muchísimo.
Review 75:Amazing hotel in the very heart of Saragosa - walkway distance to the main Cathedral. Stayed for two nights and was impressed by a level of comfort, quality, cleanness and level of service, thus would be happy to stay there again. Haven't tried SPA, but visited top floor where a small pool is located - go there and take photos! PS: Slippers were a very good bonus :)
Review 76:The hotel didn't have enough ironing boards to accompany iron. They also had hair dryers that stopped working after 2 minutes.
Review 77:Location, comfort, and cleanliness.
Review 78:Did notice on this trip that the hotel is starting to show some signs of use. e.g. shower, window blinds/blackout. Some of the staff need a retrain on how to smile and not to be complacent and not to forget we always have a choice of which hotel to choose or come back to! but overall pretty good as usual.
Review 79:We keep coming back to the hotel and this speaks for itself. Great location, great room, décor, roof terrace and breakfast.
Review 80:I have specifically requested for a high floor room away from noise but that was not granted. Noise from shouting and yelling pedistrians throughout the night made sleeping very difficult.
Review 81:Location was great, hotel was great, staff were friendly, breakfast was good, Wifi was good.
Review 82:The parking is located away from the hotel and you need to walk around 100m. We had some problems with leaving the parking in the morning as there was nobody to open us the gate.
Review 83:Besides de location, nice design of the hotel and rooms, we got a voucher for a free glass of local red wine - a good one!
Review 84:The smell of the swimming pool in the restaurant, bar, breakfast room (all one ). Bar staff non existent, no problem went elsewhere, didn't spoil the stay
Review 85:Most things
Review 86:Room was quite basic. Other reviews that I read made it sound much nicer, there was no sofa or comfy chair in the room as per the details shown when booking and worst of all there was a really unplesant smell. One night it was so bad it woke us up. When we asked at reception to see a menu for dinner we were told to go and ask at the restaurant, however there were no staff there. After waiting several minutes we left and ate elsewhere.
Review 87:Very good city centre location. Comfy bed.
Review 88:The room I was in had a terrible view of the maintenance courtyard (?) In the middle of the hotel, all concrete and not very nice to look at. The carpet and some of the furnishings were a bit threadbare and could have done with a bit of sprucing up as it's supposed to be a well rated hotel. I've stayed here before but this time the room was a bit of a disappointment unfortunately.
Review 89:The location is very good in the centre of the city, the staff were very polite and helpful, the bed was very comfortable, they offer a great service of looking after your luggage even after you have checked out so you don't have to carry extra bags around with you.
Review 90:Very well situated in the City centre. The staff are very helpful, polite and speak excellent english - the hotel is clean and modern and guests are there for a mix of business and leisure.
Review 91:From the outside only "onso" was visible of the Hotel name as the street trees practically completely camoflaged the Hotel Alfonso name, this meant we missed it twice when hunting for the Hotel, the new(?) tram system has made driving in Zaragosa exceptionally difficult due to the new layouts and some roads and roundabouts seemed to be missing or one way in the wrong direction!
Review 92:Nothing inside to complain about, except some staff were a little rude, could have been a bad day! Zaragosa is a very interesting city, though I would warn anyone with a fear of heights to give the tower in the Basilica a miss!
Review 93:It would have been nice to have had some furniture on the balcony.
Review 94:On arrival the receptionist was friendly, very helpful and spoke excellent English. We were given a double bedded suite on the 11th floor, having previously requested a balcony if possible. The room was luxurious and spacious, as was the bathroom. The towels were soft and large. Bath robes and slippers were also provided. There was a nice range of toiletries in the bathroom. WiFi worked well in all areas. English television news etc was available in the room. The view from the balcony was fantastic. The roof top pool, found on the 12th floor, although small was very nice. Breakfast was self service offering a varied choice of foods and was delicious. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Basilica, the Cathedral, river and shopping areas. Trams run right in front of the hotel.
Review 95:A shame that the stunning rooftop was empty but to be fair they have also got an indoor one in the basement which I thought was pretty spectacular too!
Review 96:Top quality hotel in a good location, it really was a smart room and very nice hotel. Breakfast was fine, not enough eggs but other than that it was lovely!
Review 97:Only one guy on reception - check in took over half an hour. Air conditioning did not work in the room, neither did the hair drier and we had a major intermittent noise coming from the ceiling all night. Dreadful night and no interest on the part of the hotel.
Review 98:Room size good
Review 99:Directions to parking garage Salamero in booking details would be appreciated There are only a few chairs at rooftop terrace and although there is a phone to order drinks, bar could not be reached.
Review 100:Hotel is located in city center. Nice clean hotel with rooftop terrace and pool. Good quality for money.
Review 101:The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. Our room was a fairly good size, certainly large enough to feel comfortable for 2 nights. The staff were helpful. The location was perfect for visiting the main sights of the city which were all within a short walk. We did not use the indoor pool but the small outdoor pool area had a great view over the city and although small was great for cooling off.
Review 102:Extremely difficult to access by private car and gps. Therefore reallynot recommended for car drivers unless gps is updated and extra info isgiven on Hotel website or when a booking is confirmed.
Review 103:Location
Review 104:The only negative point is breakfast. Everything from cans and packages... nothing really fresh except bakery... it's sad. No freshly squeezed juice, ... ham, and everything from the lowest price and lowest quality... very disappointing indeed.
Review 105:Nice hotel design. Nice bedroom. Nice location very central. Good staff
Review 106:swimming pool closes too early in the evening, there was a little bit mould in the bathroom
Review 107:location, friendly and helpful staff, soundproof, air-conditioner was effective without any noise
Review 108:The hotel was great, fashionable and felt quite newly refurbished. Welcome drink, well stocked mini bar and funky chairs! The hotel was in easy walking distance to some great bars, Tapas and Gelato.
Review 109:The only thing is to change the hair dryer to a batter one.
Review 110:Every thing location, staff speak good English, clean and I can leave the kids un accompanied because it's a safe very nice place.
Review 111:- The "look business" of the hotel is not so attractive for a summer holiday - during the night I didn't feel good because I had eaten too much, so I had asked an infusion to digest..the price was about 5 euro that I think is really overestimate!
Review 112:- Good position for visiting the city (in the center) - Nice swimming pool on the roof - Good breakfast
Review 113:The room was on the smaller side, decor kind of reminded me of the '70s, and it faintly smelled of smoke, as if it had once been a smoking room.
Review 114:The location is absolutely perfect. We arrived by bus from Barcelona, and just took a city bus to the hotel. It dropped us off at the corner, and we walked over to the hotel, where the staff were extremely friendly. When we arrived, they gave us each a voucher for a free glass of red wine at the bar. Very welcoming! :) The location could not be better. It's steps away from everything, including the beautiful cathedral. From the rooftop pool, there's an amazing view of the city, including the cathedral! Even if you don't want to swim, it's definitely worth a trip to the roof to see the view. We had breakfast included in our room rate, and it was delicious and extensive. Even during the last half our of breakfast, they continued to replace items like the plate of smoked salmon and cheese plates. We really appreciated that. Fruit and fresh orange juice included in breakfast, as well. Hot items, too - scrambled eggs, bacon and I think there was something else... Fantastic value. 80 euros for a hotel located right in the center, with an extensive breakfast included. We would stay there again. Breakfast was fantastic, but we realized that we don't need a buffet breakfast, as we don't eat that much. We would probably stay again, but skip breakfast. Well, it depends on how much cheaper it would be, as on the other hand, the breakfast was really nice... We recommend this hotel! We are a young couple, and we stayed here for one night on our honeymoon! :)
Review 115:Didn't start well with the clerk at reception grumbling about his system not accepting our ID cards.. Not my problem! The fan in the bathroom had a mind of its own and must have been broken because it switched on and off whenever it felt like it and made lots of noise, not conducive to a good night sleep. The roof top pool was packed, loungers were all full, I did not look at the indoor pool. The hotel had a funny smell to it. I would not stay again.
Review 116:The room was clean, good windows kept the noise of the trams out. The room was 507 beside the lift but didn't hear any lift noise. Breakfast had lots of variety and they had gluten free bread on request. The roof top pool was packed, loungers were all full, I did not look at the indoor pool. The hotel had a funny smell to it. I would not stay again.
Review 117:Very difficult to find by car, with poor signage, and not easy to get to the car park. No signs for the lift. Reception staff's English was poor. Wifi signal not strong enough for all rooms. Bar could be open later.
Review 118:Excellent location for shops, bars and places of interest. Efficient air conditioning. Nice roof top pool with great views of the city.
Review 119:Swimming pool is very small. Short on basic bathroom amenities such as tissues, body lotion... Shower water temperature quite tricky to set up. Breakfast buffet was short on quality offering. Skip the poor quality wine glass offered upon arrival. Poor Wifi connection.
Review 120:Rooms are clean and modern, though relatively small. Breakfast buffet was ok.
Review 121:Bar was a little quiet and the service was slow.
Review 122:Roof terrace and pool were very nice given the weather. Room was excellent with superb bathroom. Bed very comfy.
Review 123:Tiny room to a small and noisy patio (#915), air conditioning that smelled like wastewater and night flooding of the bathroom floor caused by the same a/a. We almost had a bad accident. Reception staff didn't give us any solution, neither a discount, compliment breakfasts or car parking. Most disappointing. Do not accept room #915.
Review 124:Location, roof terrace with an impressive city view, comfortable bed.
Review 125:We would have liked coffee/tea making facilities in our room but realise this isn't always available in Spanish hotels. Breakfast is served until 10am and clearing away commences before that time, so arrive by 9.30 am latest. We would not include breakfast next time, any service required at breakfast was made to seem like too much trouble. Hotel not easy to get to in a car because it is next to the tram line and the one way system is difficult to navigate even with sat nav. No parking available at the hotel but 24 hr parking a short walk away. Suggest you find out where to park before arriving at the hotel.
Review 126:Our superior room with a seating area was very spacious, comfortable and had superior modern facilities. Very quiet even though in the middle of the city and on the tram line. All places of interest are within a short walking distance as are good quality restaurants. Reception and bar staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We would stay at The Alfonso again without hesitation.
Review 127:Suited more for business stay than holiday stay. Reception area opened into dining room and bar so lacked the ambiance we usually expect when dining in hotels. Street noise could be heard in room on Saturday nights which seems to be the night for hen and stag parties
Review 128:Attentive staff Rooms, good size and clean
Review 129:The restaurant had no atmosphere, maybe because it was always nearly empty, and the whole place didn't make me feel comfortable. Other restaurants locally were busy.
Review 130:The hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful.
Review 131:Air conditioning did not work. I told the staff about it. They promised to solve the problem. They did not. I had to call the reception again and asked for another room. It was real nightmare to find the hotel's parking. The directions sent by the hotel were not particularly useful.
Review 132:Location. The city of Zaragoza is great!
Review 133:We had bad luck with the room, I guess, but the air conditioning did not work, the room was at 27 degrees C (outside it was about 30). We were never given the option to change to another room with a working air conditioning though, so we decided to cut our stay short and go to another hotel. The rooftop pool should be called "the pond", it's really really small, specially the surrounding area, with just 6 beach-chairs and 4 chairs. Since the rooftop pool was packed, we tried the indoor pool. Unfortunately is was closed for the summer. Although the hotel announces it has 2 swimming pools, they only have one open at a given time (summertime outdoors, wintertime indoor; at least that's what they told us). The rooms are too crowed with unnecessary furniture.
Review 134:Great staff, always very helpful and willing to assist. Good location in a pedestrian area close to El Pilar square and basilica, shops, bars and restaurants. Also close to public parking (Parking Salamero) and "easily" accessible by car (just make sure you do not enter through the tram/pedestrian area, follow the yellow signs for Hotel Alfonso).
Review 135:Liked everything. Would have liked to know which car park to head for in advance.
Review 136:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was immaculate and the location to see this beautiful city was perfect.
Review 137:It was too cold for the outside swimming pool and the indoor pool was closed. Bathroom was not properly clean when we arrived. Parking is expensive and inconvenient because of the distance.
Review 138:I liked the location, but there are cheaper hotels, with the same quality and in the same área.
Review 139:slow internet if you are on GPS forget it! area was pedestrianised recently and GPS was getting confused. hotel is situated in a no car zone so its very difficult to get your car near by room towels were not clean, (dust, hair etc)
Review 140:very big room decent breakfast helpful reception
The Fine Print
Please note that vehicles can be parked in front of the hotel during 10 minutes only, enough to load and unload luggage. Private parking is available nearby with special prices for Hotel Alfonso's guests.
