Reviews for Inter-Hotel Le Lion D'or

Review 1:Rooms looked tired, quite noisy from the kitchens' late into the evening. Hotel pretty empty so breakfast had to be taken at the next door hotel. Breakfast not worth the money. Said free WiFi but no instructions in room.

Review 2:good location for visiting Chinon. Parking opposite hotel, but could be a problem on Wednesday night/Thursday morning when there is a market on the car park.

Review 3:The room was extremely small, and not very clean. We could hear what was being said in the next room or in the hall, or outside noises. We didn't want to use the shower. There was moldy smell especially in the breakfast room.

Review 4:Breakfast was a great value for 9.5 euros.

Review 5:It was OK, but very basic. In need of refurbishment. After a long drive tea making facilities would be good. No air conditioning.

Review 6:Close to town centre. Parking close by.

Review 7:Although I had asked for a cot to be available in the message box when I booked, this didn't happen, and they had all been used. We had a travel cot with us, so not a big problem

Review 8:Location by the river. Easy parking. Pretty courtyard inside. Very nice helpful staff,

Review 9:Bar closed at 10pm! Male staff not accommodating. No on site parking. Poor room decor, like staying in an eighties spanish resort hotel. Very expensive continental breakfast.

Review 10:Location. Female staff very proffesional and freindly.

Review 11:Fan in room didn't work properly and on the night we stayed they had a live band playing at the hotel restaurant that was right below our bedroom windows. They played till 11pm meaning our three children aged 8,6 and 1 couldn't get to sleep. It would have been nice to have been advised of the band so we could of switched rooms!!!

Review 12:Great location, good size room

Review 13:Would be nice with aircon in the room, it was crazy hot during summer.

Review 14:Good location, close to pretty much everything you would like to see in Chinon. Nice, helpful and friendly staff. Parking very close by

Review 15:Good location in the Centre of Chinon, very convenient for bars and restaurants and very near the riverside walk. Good free parking outside the hotel. Basic facilities, but friendly staff and excellent value for money.

Review 16:Very French hotel: very good setting on the edge of the market place with parking close at hand; very good multi-tasking, hard-working staff. Effective, unobtrusive management and good food made for an enjoyable stay.

Review 17:Our "standard" bedroom was actually located in a third building far from the street that is plaisantly shown on the main picture onthis website, at the top floor so the temperature would be really hot inside the room during this warm summer night...

Review 18:Central location. Ventilator provided.

Review 19:The room was over the street, so it was quite loud during the night and morning with traffic and setting up restaurant tables outside.

Review 20:The hotel was well-situated in downtown Chinon, within easy walking distance of the fortress and cobbled downtown streets. We were a group of three, and the triple room was actually two bedrooms and a kitchenette, which was ample for our needs.

Review 21:Our room was directly above the courtyard, so bit noisy at night and in the morning.

Review 22:Fantastic location, easy to walk into town. Welcoming reception staff, easy check-in. The room was simple, but comfortable. Bathroom is simple and clean and the shower was great, very powerful and nice hot water.

Review 23:None

Review 24:Handy location though not directly on the Loire Cycleway, good breakfast though pretty well picked over by large group of cyclists ahead of us, room was comfortable, quiet and courtyard to park cycles. Good meal at adjoining restaurant.

Review 25:The wifi dropped regularly and it was unsecured (no password). Our dinner food didn't inspire us so didn't eat there again.

Review 26:Large comfy bed. Location. Quiet after 10pm. Good shower and heating. Good service from waiter of all skills!

Review 27:VERY cold floor, no kettle in the room, you have to arrange boiling water on stairs between floors, there is kettle and tea/coffee bags. There is stove in the room, but no kitchenware. Addition of kettle and microwave would essentially improve the room quality.

Review 28:Location near castle, good heating system with controls, big rooms.

Review 29:I was a solo traveller and when I ordered breakfast, I was charged for two. On contacting the hotel to advise them of this error, i have received no respobse

Review 30:Location

Review 31:Room was too hot with lots of noise from neighbouring rooms. Service was abysmal - we reserved a table for 20.00h but we were not seated until 20.45 and after waiting a further 15 minutes for someone to take our order, we walked out!

Review 32:Good location with ample parking. Easy to find.

Review 33:Nothing

Review 34:Excellent location close to the centre Very comfortable bar area Decent restaurant Extremely helpful staff Free parking in the square Market in the square on some days Chinon is a great place and the hotel is an authentic part of it

Review 35:Had to deal with another lady who was rude and didn't want to really deal with us as she was eating her dinner. Went to the restaurant for dinner waited so long to be served we left, prices were to high we realised after going down the street further. Don't put you can speak English on your site when only one person can speak it and are not there most of the day. (we can speak enough French to get us by) but the lady in particular decided pulling faces and acting stupid was ok and giving us back $30 in small change -coins is acceptable. Hot stuffy room.

Review 36:Reception lady we first spoke to was helpful and we got by with small amounts of French and English,

Review 37:Having to wait to check in as the receptionist was busy in the bar.

Review 38:Huge car park just opposite the hotel and easy walking access to the centre of Chinon, with bars and restaurants nearby. I appreciated being able to take my dog at nom extra charge. Lovely decor but room a bit small. Having no lift was inconvenient for a room on the top floor.

Review 39:Room slightly noisy above the kitchen.

Review 40:Location excellent opposite lovely leafy square near the river. Within easy walking distance of castle, town Centre and restsurants. Smallish room but comfortable. Very adequate breakfast for about 9 euros. Free parking in square opposite hotel.

Review 41:room a little small and very hot during our visit in July.

Review 42:location friendly staff able to take dog cleanliness consideration of weather - provided a fan for very hot weather - though air-conditioning would have been better

Review 43:central location ,friendly staff.

Review 44:2nd set of towels were in a bathroom cupboard. Why hide them - consequently shared 1 between 2! Poor.

Review 45:Location, comfort and food.

Review 46:Quite different from the normal run-of-the-mill. Lovely old 18th century town house with excellent pool out back.Good breakfasts sand grand room.

Review 47:Good WiFi

Review 48:Wifi slow, some staff members are only speaking French which caused some misunderstandings

Review 49:great breakfast, clean room, free Wifi, friendly staff

Review 50:Excellant hotel on the end of the city by the river, good resturant. Parking opposite the hotel ands free. Really good sdelection for breakfast.

Review 51:Bed was terrible as was the decor and cleanliness of the room

Review 52:Wonderful place to stay. Very nice staff and very helpful. Enjoyed our stay

Review 53:I just booked late and was able to get the room within few seconds. With less of human interaction...all done via the web. It was super!

Review 54:There was nothing that we didn't like.

Review 55:Lovely room high up looking over the rooftops with a view of the castle.

Review 56:Free parking and location of hotel. Very good evening meal.

Review 57:Good evening meal

Review 58:Very noisy one night into the small hours of the morning - British motorcycle club

Review 59:Traditional French Hotel. Good for 3-star

Review 60:The hotel staff are friendly and it is very clean throughout. It is well situated for morning walks along the river.

Review 61:bed rooms not a 3 star, stair access to room very utilitarian, room basic and need of upgrade

Review 62:value for money , special rate

Review 63:Not all staff speak English

Review 64:Great atmos & location

Review 65:Service in the brasserie

Review 66:Location /room

Review 67:Noisy in the mornings Quite basic rooms Starting to look a bit tired overall.

Review 68:Location Price Restaurant

Review 69:Dirty, needs updating, very noisy due to street location

Review 70:WIFI, Staff, Location

Review 71:Nothing negative at all

Review 72:Service standards Location Breakfast Value and Price Friendliness of staff

Review 73:No lift! One of our party had great difficulty climbing the stairs.

Review 74:Friendly staff. Good food.

Review 75:Stairs only. Lighting below first floor not good.

Review 76:Location opposite square, very convenient parking. Welcoming.

Review 77:Not travel cots for babies and no lift. The internet didn't work is definately not a three star

Review 78:The location is good

Review 79:chambre sur rue un peu bruyante

Review 80:situation chambre spacieuse

Review 81:Nothing -it was good value.

Review 82:The location was great. There was a market right outside the front door. The breakfast was better than others.

Review 83:Hotel décor is a little tired.

Review 84:Very good location close to the historic centre of Chinon. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 85:On arrival the young staff member did'nt seem interested. I wanted to know if I could park on the car park across the street. She nodded I woke the following morning to find a large market on the car park. I was unable to move the car until later that day. This could have been comunicated in some way. Not impressed. Anyone considering Chinon should be aware a large market takes place every Thursday and every 3rd Sunday on the month. There is no place to park. Be warned!

Review 86:Central to the town

Review 87:The restaurant attached to the hotel was not open for the three nights we were there which made it difficult to get a hot meal if you are a tourist.

Review 88:Great location

Review 89:No record of booking when we arrived, but don't know who's fault (booking.com or hotel). Breakfast was dismal even by French standards. Didn't bother with it on second day we went to a local café bar instead.

Review 90:Free parking on site. excellent bar/bistro.

Review 91:Well-sited near the river, with lots of free parking in the Place Jeanne d'Arc. Good dinner, and the self-serve breakfast included fresh croissants. Room was spacious and comfortable. I shall certainly return as I was delayed arriving and the town has lots to see and visit.

Review 92:My only caveat is the old-fashioned doorkeys which grind noisily in the lock as people come and go from their rooms.

Review 93:I stayed in Lion D'Or at Place Jeanne d'Arc in August for four days, having selected it partly due its favourable reviews on Booking.com From start to finish, it got my heart. It has a south-facing front on to a one way circuit around the fiery tribute to the Pyrrhic One on horseback, set back from the Vienne riverbank and local (free) carpark. This affords Leon d'Or a terrace for drinks and outdoor tables for food. Unlike most two stars, there is a full bar and restaurant here whilst breakfast room is to the rear, off the internal courtyard. Continental brek is self service and with an express coffee machine, 100 per cent juice, fruit, crusty rolls, yoghurts, puréed fruits and more, mornings are a pleasant exercise, rolling on until 11am really. My room had a fridge, flatscreen, fan, phone and proper reading lights. The bathroom was large and plumbing excellent. I found the proprietors to be really great people who run a careful, proud and friendly house. Extras like a brolly, a two pin plug and a good laugh at my Fronglais came easily. Service is excellent and with such facilities, I do raise an eyebrow at its modest star ranking; parking is free and plentiful in Place Jeanne. You are in Chinon and its medieval charisme is enveloping.

Review 94:If arriving late make sure to phone ahead to gain access after 10.30pm (was not a problem though)

Review 95:Good location and good value as a stopping off place on the way back through France. Lovely quaint town.

Review 96:Noisy, typical tired 70's hotel, very basic but only 2 star so not unexpected! Food could have been much better. Good shower but small and nowhere to put soap etc. much prefer bath but friends in the smaller & cheaper rooms had that!

Review 97:Nice owners and walking distance of the castle of Chinon. Was pleasant to sit outside hotel and have drinks on their tables in the square in the evening.

Review 98:No kettle. Dim lights. Toilets were small so sometimes it was crammed. Hard to carry luggage up as no elevator.

Review 99:Huge room. easy parking. Not far from restaurants.

Review 100:While the bedroom was just about adequate in size, there was no drawer space, and very limited hanging space for clothes, with only five coat-hangers provided. There was no hot water for a shower or washing for one morning (due to boiler breakdown) and the coffee machine was also out-of-order. With no attendance in the dining room, we were constantly visiting the desk for milk, tea-bags and other breakfast items. When we booked, the breakfast price was listed as E8.00 each, but the manager insisted on taking E8.50 each - a small difference I know, but he refused to budge, even when shown the booking form

Review 101:The location of the hotel in the lovely town of Chinon in the beautiful Loire area was convenient for most of our needs, including several good restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel was also very near the river, and car parking was easy and free, although there was no secure parking available

Review 102:We went there on August, when it gets real hot on the area, and for us there is a major problem with this hotel. It does not have air conditioning. One of the nights we could not sleep, almost nothing.

Review 103:The hotel is simple, yet comfortable and nice. The location and the restaurant are very good for the price, plus their staff is good taking care of people.

Review 104:Small complaints - no mirror in main room. Didn't like coffee from a machine for breakfast.

Review 105:Didn't give the impression of a big chain. Seemed typically French. Good location. Facilities not luxurious but good and value for money.

Review 106:Going up two flights of stairs.

Review 107:The staff was very friendly and helpful. I especially liked theirwillingness to interact with me in my poor attempts at speaking French. The location was excellent, important because we had no transportation.Chinon is a lovely town. We enjoyed our stay there.

Review 108:Very dark, only 2 lamps in the entire room; hard to read or see atnight. No elevator and we were 3 flights up....0, 1, 2 is how it isnumbered for flights in France. This can be hard for people withheavy luggage.

Review 109:The large rooms are comfortable and convenient to stay for a family.Much larger than most hotel rooms; almost double the size, and therestaurant is good.

Review 110:Although we were kindly upgraded to a larger room, we only wanted alarger bed and instead got two singles pushed together which madesleeping uncomfortable. The rubber mattress protectors were noisy andhot and our room smelled like dogs had weed in it and it had not beensteam cleaned. On the other hand, the smaller room our parents had, wasclean, although small, and didn't smell at all. I'd highly recommendpurchasing a steam cleaner and/or lifting that smelly carpet. Oh, andgot bitten by something throughout the night, came home with welts!

Review 111:It was friendly and easy to get to, and from, for our chateaux tours.

Review 112:Poor plumbing, bath took a long time to drain

Review 113:Close to the centre of town, clean and comfortable, nice outdoor area

Review 114:rooms a little small

Review 115:great location great welcome great price

Review 116:Small bathroom

Review 117:Large bedroom(Family booked at extra €8 per night)

Review 118:Proximity to town services and attractions

Review 119:Very spartan furnishings and layout. Had to ask for additional towels in family room.

Review 120:Good location . Modest and affordable family hotel.

Review 121:No A/C and the rooms did not have proper windows which made them hot.

Review 122:Bedroom too dark blue - very dark

Review 123:Central - easy parking in square opposite - friendly

Review 124:We were cycling. The location and facilities were. Fine for us.

Review 125:Breakfast sparse,room basic

Review 126:Clean,comfortable, very friendly staff and not too expensive. Enjoyed the stay

Review 127:Staircases and halls dark. Noisy.

Review 128:Easy parking. Close to main area of town.
