Reviews for Hotel De Normandie

Review 1:The place was pretty bustling, and you sense that there are a lot of people passing through it every year- that kind of vibe. Not terrible, but the place feels heavily trafficked and service does not feel very personal.

Review 2:Kind of a funky older building, great location on the beach, with free parking.

Review 3:Shower was a little too small.

Review 4:I liked the sea view. The young man serving in the restaurant and bar was so polite. Food was delicious. Lots of hot water. Comfortable bed. Nice room. Great price. Great location for DDay beaches and exploring.

Review 5:Stair carpet has seen better days but who cares??

Review 6:Comfortable spacious room, spectacular view, nice breakfast, very good evening meal ( 4 courses) with wine all for £102

Review 7:Three flights of stairs to a rather compact room. No tea/coffee making facilities. Waitress could do with some hospitality training.

Review 8:The location was ideal for the D-Day beaches. Plenty of hot water. Food was good and beer was cold and not overly expensive.

Review 9:Bedroom corridors a tad narrow and can be noisy due to bedrooms doors been of poor quality. Beds were very comfortable. Pick a lower floor as no lift available.

Review 10:Beside beach and also the museum.Great base for touring the Landing beaches. Great buffet breakfast, and we ate dinner there a couple of nights good varied menu and 3 course deal for 18euro..Arromanches is v quiet place most places close at 10pm so dont expect a late night! Bayeux 10mins away is far bigger and more shops etc.

Review 11:Staff where not helpful.... Didn't see a smile from any of them during our 2 day stay. Service was very poor. Rooms where ok considering the cost. Would not stay there again.

Review 12:Good base for travelling around Normandy although I would recommend Bayeux as a better base as there is a lot more to do there more shops more option for eating out

Review 13:Bit basic. Breakfast not up to much. Wished that we had eaten breakfast down the road. Didn't try the restaurant.

Review 14:Clean and a little bit like 'allo allo'.

Review 15:Nothing at all

Review 16:The hotel was convenient to museum and we were able to dine at the hotel. The photo's on the website do not do this hotel justice. It is a really charming little hotel.

Review 17:Parking is limited to about 6 cars but there is free overnight parking opposite the hotel and in the side road.

Review 18:The view from our 2 front rooms was excellent overlooking the harbour. The rooms were of a reasonable size with modern en suites. The beds were comfortable and bedlinen clean. The continental breakfast was good and also the evening meal in the brasserie. Staff were busy and helpful. This is a traditional French working hotel with atmosphere and we would certainly revisit.

Review 19:The hotel has only 5 own parking place, you have to park in the tourist parking area, but after 19:00PM and before 9:00AM is free here. The wifi was not working during my two days stay, neither in the room, nor at the reception desk or in the restaurant. It was told, that the reason is, too much user. My room was small and cute on the third floor under the roof, but I heard everything from the other rooms, talks, snore. Seems, that the walls are not real ones there. There is hairdryer in the bathroom, but no kettle in the room. The restaurant is very touristic and a bit costly.

Review 20:The location of this hotel is very good, in the center, near the museum and the beach.

Review 21:The location of the hotel was excellent. Rooms were tidy but a bit drab, would be much nicer if bed covers, curtains were more colourful.staff were friendly and pleasant.food that we ate was lovely.

Review 22:Even though the price is the average price of that area, it's still a bit expensive compared to a better hotel we stayed in central Paris.

Review 23:Perfect location to explore d-day sites! Small room but comfortable.

Review 24:Pay extra for breakfast. Wifi did not work for me. Spungy bed. No elevator. Reception hidden behind restaurant. Only survives due to sea side location and historical relevance.

Review 25:This is an older property and wear shows. Some early morning noises on the street woke us.

Review 26:Great WWII museum across the street. Loved walking on the beach. Ocean view from one of our rooms. Accommodated our family of ten comfortably.

Review 27:Three flights of stairs. No elevator. Lots of tour busses stopping in front. Wi-Fi was unreliable.

Review 28:A quaint hotel on the water. Our room had a lovely sea view. The bathroom was large, clean and modern. Room clean. This is a small, old, village hotel. May seem a bit unclean but really just worn.

Review 29:All these buildings are old, rooms are not modern and very small, but you are getting a central location.

Review 30:Great location to take a look around Normandy coast, good location for a short stay.

Review 31:Bathrooms were very smelly that I think were caused by blocked drains ? Woken a few times with other guests trying to get into hotel as no night staff on duty. Lots of traffic and noise early morning and late at night due to shops opposite being renovated and also deliveries.

Review 32:Great location and very clean.

Review 33:Our room had a bad odor... Mold? Above the kitchen? Just noxious We had a parking space behind the hotel, then it got taken when we returned from dinner (by staff) and got referred to a parking lot across street where we'd have to exit before 9 a.m. Staff just didn't seem to care.

Review 34:Location

Review 35:Beware the bar shuts about 9.30ish,but as we were a group of five english bikers the owner warned us he was closing and gave us a couple of trays of beer and red wine which we sat outside with and watched the sun go down so never a problem really.

Review 36:comfortable rooms, beds were great.Staff were very friendly and helpful and did their upmost to make us welcome. The food was a bit limited choicewise but reasonably priced and perfectly acceptible(only a minor niggle really).Would definately recommend it.

Review 37:Clean and well looked after hotel. Staff friendly, welcoming and attentive. Fantastic location. You can walk up the hill to the Arromanches 360 from here. Le Musée du débarquement is across the road from the hotel and the Mulberries are right there on the beach on front of you. Parking on site - or there is free parking just round the corner. Internet was very good too.

Review 38:The room was at the back of the hotel and looked like something out of the 1960s. Clearly, the owner needs to invest some money in bringing the hotel up to date, like the Ibis hotels we used on our tour of Normandy. It needs freshening up. One of our curtains didn't cover the whole window and we were woken at first daylight at about 4.30am! The double bed was a bit small, plus it had one of those old blankets rather than a modern duvet. The breakfast was also a bit lacking - only 2 cereal choices. I suspect this hotel relies on its location to get guests, but we were not alone in having some negative comments. To be fair, the staff were friendly, although when I had a moan about the curtain when we left there was no offer of a reduction.

Review 39:Location was very good right on the beach front, but Arromanches is very sleepy. We booked for 2 nights but wished it was just 1 night.

Review 40:Breakfast was poor and the bar prices what you would expect to par in 5 star not a 2 star hotel.

Review 41:Great location if you are visiting the landing beaches.

Review 42:Terrible bedding, get some quilts!

Review 43:Great location, beach just the other side of the street. Double glazed windows offering sea views.Lovely little town with plenty of restaurants including the one in the hotel with friendly, polite staff.

Review 44:-There was no English translation of the menu. Food was expensive. -Breakfast ceral was stale. -There is "free" parking but only about 4 spaces for cars. There is a paid car park right across the street that isn't terribly priced. -Staff doesn't speak English

Review 45:-Room had good view but it depends which side you are on, friends room didn't have a good view of the beach. -Staff were funny! -Crossiants and fresh jelly was great!

Review 46:The VERY small shower. The grumpy attitude of the older male, who was possibly the manager. No kettle or tea/coffee making facilities

Review 47:The overall impression of the staff was very good - they were helpful and happy apart from one exception. The old building was full of character. Right opposite the beach.

Review 48:Checked in and wasn't given wifi code so had to go downstairs to get it since the phone wouldn't call the front desk. I also didn't like how the waiter wouldn't let visitors to the restaurant sit at a better table, even though the restaurant was almost completely empty, to which they left without eating out of frustration. Finally, when checking out they forgot to give me my credit card and I noticed 5 hours later it was missing; called them to confirm it was there and I was shocked that they didn't try to reach me via email to tell me as they had all of my information.

Review 49:Location was great. Thirty minute drive to Omaha beach and right on the beach.

Review 50:The town of Arromanches, though welcoming, closes during the winter. So we got back to the Hotel Normande, from Bayeaux at 21:00 hrs to be greeted with, No Drink we close at 20:45. But its Saturday, No we Close! With no bars or restaurants open either, we went to bed! Avoid this hotel if you want a life.

Review 51:The location is great, for the disenbarkment museum and mulberry harbour sites. It is Ideally placed for sight seeing.

Review 52:Rooms small, and no lift. But did not hinder our great experience.

Review 53:Great location, and the hotel was all that we needed. Rooms were clean and the staff were helpful. As it was winter, the hotel also had the only restaurant open.

Review 54:Staff was rude from the start, always short and hurried because everyone here is a server and the hotel is secondary. The hotel and rooms is above a bar and restraunt which is very busy all the time only because the location, the food isnt great and the prices are high. The main problem was the internet, which would not have been a big deal except when we mentioned it the staff basically made fun of us and told us to go away because all of their phones and tablets worked. The modems IP adress list was full and would not allow anymore devices, I tried to explain this but they speak very little english and just pointed out their own cell phone and said my computer and tablet was broken. After that they treated us worse and worse after seeing us come and go from the hotel. Next time I come to normandy, i would NEVER consider this place again.

Review 55:Location is perfect right in front of the beach between Gold and Omaha. this is also the location of the huge man made dock and there is a museum 100 meters away that is worth visiting.

Review 56:Give the crepes a miss for desert

Review 57:Cost of room was very fair. New bathroom. Parking good. Decent food at very reasonable price. Good value for budget money

Review 58:Our ocean view room wasn't what I expected. We were on the top floor, the windows were small, you have to stand up or bend down to get the ocean view... That was our only disappointment.

Review 59:Hotel on the main drag ocean front, staff was great. We arrived on Christmas Day...weather was as expected. Food great, comfy rooms huge large bathroom and clean. Wi if was great, good speed except on our last night, there were strong winds and lightning we lost wifi our last night. I would definitely stay here again! Parking was also convenient...

Review 60:Location, location, location. Situated on the sea front of Sword beach, if you are travelling to see the Normandy beaches the location is perfect. I stayed in December and the the majority of the town was on seasonal closedown. The food was of a good quality with plenty of choice. It is in walking distance of the museum of Sword beach and is central for Omaha beach. Although typically French it was clean but on the tired side.

Review 61:The staff were friendly enough but with one exception didn't speak much English. I blame myself for fooling about in French lessons 40 odd years ago.

Review 62:A comfortable place to stay spacious room with sea view and new shower room and toilet all very clean. If you want new furniture and carpets then this is not for you. We had bed and breakfast plus a decent 3 course meal with wine for exactly £100 so good value.

Review 63:The staff is really friendly. We got a room with a view on the sea and as it was not in season, it was very cheap. The city is empty when not in season, but it was perfect for us, because we wanted to relax by the sea. We really liked Jacques who works in the restaurant as he is super friendly and did everything so that we could have a great breakfast (all you can eat and the food is really good). Great value for money, would recommend!

Review 64:No Lift and we were told we were on floor 1 I think they do it from the top down as we were on floor 3 and as we were booked for 3 nights we dont travel light. During our meal at night the flies were unreal and we did not have breakfast and when we walked past the open buffet I thought the rolls had currents (Not)

Review 65:Room,location staff view wonderful we went in late october it was great. Although no parking u should be able to work out the adjacent CP tarrif (€1.20) 24 hrs Check the barrier at 1900 ?

Review 66:The fact that our Hotel was on the sea front and had great views of the harbour. The staff were very helpful, which made the stay even more enjoyable.

Review 67:Slight tear In carpet could have been easily mended and let down the aesthetics a little, didn't bother me but might do some others.

Review 68:The location is first class's d we took some great pictures from our windows which opened in fully. The room was clean, the breakfast was plenty and the staff were friendly in the main. Good stop over.

Review 69:Went in October so only limited paces open in Arromanches for eating many closed early.

Review 70:Good central location for the tour of D day landings, Perfect for the overall view of the Mulberry harbour .

Review 71:Number of parking spaces is limited

Review 72:The location and character of the hotel is excellent, room comfortable with a lovely sea view. Staff polite and helpful.

Review 73:Never any tea making facilities in France.

Review 74:We stayed for one night only, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy and breakfast good.

Review 75:Staff was pleasant but not overly so. Waiter one night was downright gruff and harried - a guy like that shouldn't be a waiter... I think this place doesn't have to try very hard because they have such a great location... If it were anywhere else it would be broke.

Review 76:Right on the beach, close to all the D-day beaches. Room was clean, comfy bed, good towels, plenty of water.

Review 77:Nothing

Review 78:Although rooms are a little old and dated. Position is excellent for exploring the area. Close to restaurants. Staff were wonderful and very helpful when we required assistance. A lovely 3 day stay.

Review 79:No lift. Although the food was quite good the surroundings were a bit basic. Staff helpful .

Review 80:Lovely views out to sea. We were in the turret room and watched the storms out at sea during the night. The bathroom was new , large shower cubicle and water was good pressure and piping hot.

Review 81:The rooms and interior are a bit old-fashioned and shabby. But considered the price it's ok.

Review 82:This hotel is perfectly located by the beach in the middle of Arromanches. Ideal location for those who will visit the D-day beaches.

Review 83:I did not like anything about the hotel, restaurant, nor the village that in was located in. If you are going to this area, stay in Bayeau!

Review 84:If you are looking for a relatively low price you might consider this hotel.

Review 85:Only thing I didn't like was the parking little to no parking.

Review 86:This Hotel had a great location and very cute set up. Right on the beach and right across the street from the D-Day memorial. The staff was friendly and we were greeted by someones adorable dog. Rooms were comfortable and spacious. I was surprised when we received two rooms for the price of one. Family room very nice gave us a little break from each other. Easy walking and driving to all places we wanted to see.

Review 87:Room was a little old and could use updating. No in-room amenities like coffee or tea. After traveling all night, couldn't find coffee anywhere in the town at 6:30am.

Review 88:Great Location, what else can you say? Beautiful building from the outside NIce place to eat Centrally located, lots of places nearby for good and/or inexpensive food. Location is near most of the best Normandy invasion locations. Shower was very good.

Review 89:Employees did not speak English. When we requested ice, we were only able to get a small cup of crushed ice. The room was incredibly small and we were on the 3rd floor, with no elevator.

Review 90:The location and the price were good. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There were plenty of electrical outlets, which was nice for charging phones and cameras.

Review 91:On our first night there was a heavy metal band playing and we were not informed our children did not get to sleep until midnight also no tea coffee facilities in room

Review 92:The hotel la Normandie is very well situated, just opposite the former Mulberry and the museum. The personnel is very friendly, the breakfast is very good and reasonably priced, and the restaurant is of excellent quality. Last but not least, they have Leffe beer on the tap. I very much recommend this hotel.

Review 93:hotel car park not big enough. there is a car park right across the road but only free between 7pm and 9am. not that expensive though. no public transport to explore d-day beaches or elsewhere but not a problem if you have a car.

Review 94:hotel location on sea front. you can sit outside hotel bar for relaxing drink. room had a sea view which was great. very good d-day museum across road, worth a visit. close to D-day beaches and Bayeux. staff understood English if you don't speak French. loads of nice café bars and restaurants nearby.

Review 95:Extremely small triple room with dated furniture and uncomfortable beds. Rude waitstaff in restaurant and expensive but marginal food. No lift and steep stairs which was difficult to manage with luggage and no staff around to help. Had to use a key to turn on lights in the room. Would pay more to get more. Disappointing.

Review 96:Location and sea view

Review 97:The hotel needs some work. The inside rough and could use some fix-up.

Review 98:The location was perfect to explore the Normandy Beach invasion site. The location is central to the 5 beaches and made it easy to get to all the military attractions

Review 99:Shower slightly irritated us as it kept moving! Just needed tightening I think but I'm sure they would of sorted it had we asked!

Review 100:We had a sea view room that was well worth the extra money! We had views from 3 windows straight out to the sea defences! Staff were friendly and food in restaurant was good!

Review 101:Extremely limited free hotel parking.

Review 102:We loved the location and its historical value. Close to the seawall and multiple places to eat, drink, and relax in a social warm environment. The locals were extremely helpful and friendly at every shop we went in.

Review 103:There was no elevator and the room was small. Our daughter got her own room which she liked. The Wi-Fi did not work in the rooms. It was difficult to find a good restaurant in Arromanches, so we went to Bayeux.

Review 104:The location was great in the centre of Arromanche. It was close to the beach and we saw a beautiful sunset. The hotel had some charm and they had free parking, if the parking lot wasn't full, which it was. We woke up to the sound of sea gulls.

Review 105:Arrived just before 5pm. No receptionist. Automatic booking in didn't accept our ref. staff helped but spoke little English so first impression was disappointing.

Review 106:Great position on Central sea front close to d-day museum. Our room looked over sea and gold beach. Meal on evening was very good. Waiting staff exceptionally efficient. Room good value but shower room dated.

Review 107:The wifi didn't work in our room (room 2), the sign was too weak. Just a few parking spaces available in the hotel's carpark.

Review 108:The staff was extermley kind and friendly, the town and the hotel's area is really beautiful. The food in the hotel's restaurant was fine and cheap. I had asked the staff to make a double room to twin for us, finally they put in an other single bed next to the double without any further fee.

Review 109:cold rooms and electricity kept blowing on day 2 for breakfast. However this was eventually fixed.

Review 110:Friendly staff, helpful and accomodating

Review 111:Welcoming staff, great location, super food, clean and warm. What else do you want ?

Review 112:Typical low cost French hotel. Lovely staff, great food for the cost, incredible location if you're looking for D Day history.

Review 113:Location was next to the museum and the beach

Review 114:Staff

Review 115:Short stay

Review 116:All it said on the label and more. Great value great location

Review 117:Staff and location great

Review 118:No lift and parking limited.

Review 119:Views of the sea from attic bedroom, excellent bar and restaurant and location.

Review 120:Great location. Friendly staff.

Review 121:Management and staff were un friendly. Bed was hard. Bathroom cramped.

Review 122:Overnight, 8 hours only.

Review 123:good location good food

Review 124:A lot of tourists.

Review 125:An interesting city overlooking historic Normandy. Good restaurants nearby.

Review 126:Stairs - but then that would have altered the aesthetic beauty for the hotel.

Review 127:Loved the location.

Review 128:Overall a bit tired but very clean

Review 129:Excellent location parking nearby no problem and great value for money

Review 130:No wi fit in rooms only in dining area.no tea / coffee facilities in room.

Review 131:Location, friendly staff. Food was good.

Review 132:Rooms are a bit on the small side

Review 133:Fantastic location and friendly staff.

Review 134:4th time to stay here. Staff are friendly, rooms are comfortable. It is a great location to visit D-Day landing sites.

The Fine Print

Please note that the hotel does not have an elevator. The hotel has limited parking spaces and reservation is not possible.
