Reviews for Hôtel De La Marine

Review 1:Great view, right on the water. Very pretty town with shops & restaurants. Lots of Normandy sites nearby, great central location for seeing them. Beautiful room with comfortable bed.

Review 2:The male staff at the bar was not friendly

Review 3:The location of the hotel was great and we had a sea view. Enjoyed the town of Arromanches, although by mid September it was extremely quiet at night and many of the restaurants weren't open and the shops closed early. It did give us a chance for some well needed rest though.

Review 4:We were told we didn't have a view because there was a tour group there and we used booking.com for our booking.

Review 5:We loved the location and our room was very spacious.

Review 6:Resturaunt was expensive.

Review 7:View. We had a corner room with view of the ocean & the town to the side. Staff were so helpful & spoke English as good as I did! Ha! We want to go back & stay again.

Review 8:No coffee making. facilities in room. Unable to get anything to eat after 9.30, the whole town closed. No room service to get food after kitchen closed at 9.30. Walls thin, could hear every word from next room. Bar staff appeared unfriendly and on one occasion was left standing at the bar for 10 minutes while they served in Restaurant, they saw me there but I felt ignored.

Review 9:Location excellent for touring the Normandy Beaches. Reception staff friendly and helpful.

Review 10:Modern hotels should provide tissues etc and have sufficient electrical points conveniently situated (ours was by the ceiling). The staff in the restaurant were poor and uninterested in their clients

Review 11:Location

Review 12:The Room - we had a triple room with a view of the opposite building - you could see the sea if you looked to the right! The room was bland and dull....I wouldn't want to re-book the same room. Breakfast - we had breakfast 3 mornings. Choice of food was limited to cereals, some fresh fruit 2 mornings (apples/oranges) but nothing the third moring; one piece of baguette and one croissant per person! Seems very mean. The main issue was the waitress, she was grumpy and very unhelpful/unco-operative...not an asset to the hotel in any way. As an example, I asked for a bigger mug to have tea in (there were small coffee mugs on the table) and she said there weren't any...I could see them behind the counter. A greater variety of bread/pastries/croissants etc which you could help yourself to would be much better.

Review 13:Reception staff were excellent and very helpful. The evening we had dinner the food was excellent as was the service. The location is fabulours

Review 14:Minor but- you need to relog onto wifi each time you use it

Review 15:Fantastic location for beach or the lkandings, with great Restaurant attached, staff good, very good value

Review 16:Nothing!

Review 17:Our dinner was superb. This hotel has the most sought after location! Parking can be an issue...but the free public lot is good from 6 pm to 9 am... Would love to return

Review 18:This time I was staying in room 401 which is one of two rooms on the groud level. It was quite dirty, smelling (especially bathroom) and claustrophobic. On the second day of our stay the heater fell of the wall obviously because of rust on handles and damp wall. It was during our absence. Instead of apology ( it could have fallen on someone's feet) we were accused of deliberate action and threatened with financial consequences. It would be funny if it was not outrageous. They should renovate these rooms or should stop letting them.

Review 19:Localisation is fantastic. Food, especially oysters, langoustine, tuna, lamb are abstolutey wonderful.

Review 20:Telephone not working so could not phone reception. Didn't try the breakfast due to the poor results on this site so went to local owner at back of hotel who was very friendly.

Review 21:Fantastic views of beach, clean and tidy. Lovely bath and plenty of hot water.

Review 22:Room 235 carpet was always damp and smelled like mildew. The carpet also appeared dirty. The bathroom was incredibly small and was equipped with cheap outdated fixtures.

Review 23:Supper was outstanding.

Review 24:VERY tiny rooms with NO tea/coffee facilities! No extra serviettes allowed at breakfast. Terrible breakfast (cold boiled eggs still in their shell) The lights kept turning off in the corridors automatically.

Review 25:Receptionist very knowledgable about the area. The location was lovely.

Review 26:My bed was a bit too soft but my wife and grand daughter were fine so it's just me being fussy

Review 27:Superb and most helpful staff. Wonderful location and lovely view from the room

Review 28:Saturday night in July is a noisy night (way into the a.m.) in Arromanches. Sunday night was lovely.

Review 29:Loved being beside the sea. Was nice that there was an outdoor area for drinks. Nice that there was a restaurant. Great location for seeing the Normandy sights. Parking turned out to be much easier that we expected. If you left before the parking lot next door opened in the morning, you didn't have to pay for parking.

Review 30:The hotel doesn't have its own parking, but you can use the free parking in the village right outside. They have a place to put bikes but it's not locked during the daytime. Even though they are not visible to anyone walking by, I would still be sure to lock them up anyway.

Review 31:Great location being on the ocean and in the middle of the town. We had a nice clean room with a view of the ocean and beach. Staff was really friendly too. The elevator was key for hauling our stroller, kids and stuff up to our room. Bike storage was helpful.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:Best location for a base to explore. D Day from. Views onto the mulberry harbour that logistically made D Day possible. Standard 3 star with popular restaurant. Location location location.

Review 34:The breakfast was too expensive. The hotel bar area was out of bounds for a late drink (after 9pm) as they were setting the tables up for breakfast. If you wanted a night cap you had to drink it either stood up at the bar or on the outside terrace which wasn't an option as it was too cold.

Review 35:The location was great, you could just step out to the beach and the shops etc, basic but very clean rooms an quiet. Only free parking opposite the hotel from 7pm to 9am following day but this wasn't a problem.

Review 36:Very small room. We hadn't booked a superior room so didn't expect a big room. Even allowing for that it was tiny but still pleasant.

Review 37:Location is a stones throw from the beach and we could hear the waves at night, fantastic

Review 38:Wifi is not reliable Breakfast area is not very clean Not very much choice Old fashioned hotel Bathroom needs renovation, so does the hotel in General

Review 39:personnel is friendly Rather good beds Good shower

Review 40:Our room was poor. Very basic, 2 single debs pushed together and looked like a B&B from 1975

Review 41:Great location on sea front and good restaurant, if a little pricey

Review 42:Bad was too soft for a decent nights sleep. Anyone over 4 foot tall wont fit in the bath.

Review 43:Staff super friendly, location right on the beach with view straight on to the sea and the harbour. Good sized room. Wifi was strong.

Review 44:Not easy to access by car. Dining room very busy und understaffed in evening .

Review 45:Very we'll situated for exploring Arromanches. Feels like a place with a story, yet comfortable and convenient.

Review 46:The staff were pleasant but our expensive room was squalidly, depressingly small. Ditto the bathroom. Not actually dirty but felt as if it was. Plus wi-fi didn't work.

Review 47:We went for the location which is as promised.

Review 48:Completely disgusted with restaurant and experience. They allow dogs in restaurant, not just little hand held ones but table height animals. At dinner, traveler walked by our table with his dog and it nearly licked the bread bowl. We had breakfast at hotel because were under the impression breakfast was included as it said so in Rick Steves book, (but you had to call and make reservation to have breakfast included). The dog was brought around the buffet breakfast table and then to have to pay for it. Moral of story - stay clear of the restaurant. Room was fine.

Review 49:Location on beach and proximity between Juno and Omaha beach

Review 50:Shower cubicle very small, wifi did not work

Review 51:Location, right at the sea-front, i could park my motorbike at the back of the hotel (parking very restricted), v. good dinner

Review 52:Shower and lavatory did not drain. Mold in the shower. Lumpy pillows. Staff response to our complaint about the pillow was to switch it to the other side of the bed.

Review 53:Great location on the beach

Review 54:Bathroom light not good enough!! One light over bathroom mirror for the entire bathroom.

Review 55:EXCELLENT location, comfy beds, big room, fab view, friendly efficient staff

Review 56:As the building is very old, the floors squeaked and it was sometimes easy to hear other guests through the walls. The breakfast was quite expensive as well, (12 euro) so we did not end up eating at the hotel as was planned.

Review 57:We loved the location of the hotel. Our primary purpose of travel to Arromanches was to tour WWII sits. We were not disappointed. The hotel overlooks Mulberry harbor and the hotel itself was used by the Germans before D-Day. Very exciting history! Highly recommend.

Review 58:We reserved two rooms - and they could not have been further apart. One room could only be accessed outside and the single occupant felt vulnerable. The other room was accessed by 15 narrow steps at the top of the hotel - interesting with luggage.

Review 59:The staff and position of the dining room.

Review 60:Hotel and Room was a bit tired, Top mattress on bed was too big, felt like I was going to fall out of bed! Continental Breakfast at 12 Euros pp was over priced. We went to the cafe nearly next door for 6 Euros pp. Parking was a nuisance but manageable.

Review 61:good location, quiet, friendly staff

Review 62:Only negative was lack of drink making facilities in the room, but everything else was great.

Review 63:Being able to look out from the restaurant on to the historical remains of the Mulberry harbour. Also the staff were all extremely polite and helpful at all times.

Review 64:The bedroom was a bit humid since there is no ventilation in the bathroom! The bedroom was clean but not the windows facing the ocean,"Sacrilège"!

Review 65:Awesome view on the ocean, cannot be closer! The restaurant is really good and the staff is nice.

Review 66:Our bathroom smelled, shower was clogged, walls were very thin so heard neighbors easily, rooms very small, too much money for quality

Review 67:Nice location with pretty view

Review 68:The staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and interested in making your stay a pleasant one. The restaurant was excellent and the accommodations were comfortable after a long day.

Review 69:- walls seem made of paper (you hear all the conversation, and other things, from neighbours) - toilets are old, noisy - showers are tiny / small and water not draining

Review 70:location views size of room for 3 children was ok

Review 71:Although we only stayed one night as we were travelling back to the UK, we found the hotel to be very good in general. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the breakfast was good value for money and the hotel's location couldn't have been better. The only drawback was that the double room we had was a little on the small side, you would struggle if you were having a longer stay.

Review 72:Parking was not really free. You park in the museum lot next door, and it is free only part of the time. Just finding the entrance was a challenge, as it is on the opposite side that you expect. The hotel itself is very well located, but the restaurant is pricey, and the breakfast is very expensive.

Review 73:The location and friendly staff were the main benefits of staying at the Marine. But the facility itself felt a little worn. You will not find a better located facility, as it is right on the beach.

Review 74:Thin walls of rooms - we could not only hear voices from neighbouring room, we could here what was said.

Review 75:Good location, convenient for a stop-over on our way towards Paris from Cherbourg

Review 76:Don't expect big room and bathrooms, this is a typical Europeansize hotel.

Review 77:Location is great, easy drive to many attractions in the area. Therestaurant is very good, good value for your money. The personal wasvery pleasant.

Review 78:Breakfast was of poor quality (canned fruits). Lack of Air Conditioning. Poor WiFi reception in the room.

Review 79:Excellent location, Hotel restaurant is very good and the staff is charming and helpful.

Review 80:The bar closed at 11pm even though we would have liked another drink as we were chatting with some other guests about places of interest to visit. I thought that they should have stayed open longer if residents wanted another drink.

Review 81:The location of the hotel was excellent and the room had a superb view. The hotel was quirky and had what appeared to be an excellent restaurant although we did not eat there.

Review 82:Had to pay for car park outside hotel €1.20 per hour between 9.00and 1900. Although there is a free park within 10 minute walk. I'd rather park close to hotel

Review 83:Location was great Comfy bed and very clean

Review 84:Ridiculously small room. the toilet was like a box in the corner of the room, so close to the bed that I could almost step into it from the bed. Also the wallpaper in the toilet was ripped. The bed was uncomfortable and pillows too small and hard. The towels were paper thin. All in all very disappointing.

Review 85:Location and town were good, easy parking and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Thank goodness the weather was great so we didn,t have to spend much time in the hotel. The views from the windows were excellent.

Review 86:No real problems except the bed was past its best in terms of comfort.

Review 87:We'll sited, pay parking at side of hotel, good restaurant, good service, fair prices.

Review 88:Staff in the restaurant were unhelpful and sometimes argumentative. Breakfast was chaotic with too few staff . Dinner was overpriced and not very interesting food. No guest lounge or area for people to meet, especially after 11PM when the place had internal shutters lowered so it resembled a prison.

Review 89:Excellent location. Good room

Review 90:On this visit we did not have a sea view which was disappointing Breakfast is a bit pricey

Review 91:The view from some rooms is spectacular Staff very friendly Convenient for town and close parking

Review 92:Breakfast was not value for money ,limited choice .The room was too noisy and chaotic .We left without breakfast . We hope this will improve in the future

Review 93:Position and view was reason for booking as it is central for visits to memorials and cemeteries

Review 94:The hotel is tired and needs refurbishing. The window in our room couldn't be opened as the curtain pole restricted this. You could hear every noise even down to other guests putting plugs into sockets.

Review 95:The location of the hotel is superb. Car parking is in a public car park next to the hotel. The view from our Room (127) was stunning. The staff are very accommodating. Just across from D Day Museum.

Review 96:No hotel parking, had to use museum parking which would be expensive ifcar left during the day (free overnight until a certain time) being putin a room off a side street, not actually within the hotel scootersrevving and going up and down the side street breakfast was late (I wasnot able to get breakfast due to other time commitments) sundaybreakfast consisted of croissants, eggs, ham, cereal, toast... (12 euro)

Review 97:Clean, spacious room lovely location beside beach and museum fine forstopping overnight, wouldn't want to spend time in the room

Review 98:Our room was facing a side street which was particularly noisy from a delivery at 6.00. am! If I go back we will insist on a sea view or go elsewhere if none are available.

Review 99:The location was excellent but poor parking arrangements especially for disabled!

Review 100:Rooms very small, no tea/coffee facilities and beds really low, one room did not have a telephone and the socket for the hair dryer was high up the wall outside the bathroom which had the only mirror

Review 101:location and views from restaurant were lovely. young bar girl was really helpful

Review 102:Hotel promised car parking. In fact there were only 3 parking spots, already taken. Parking is difficult to find in Arromanches, so I consider it incorrect advertising.

Review 103:lack of staff especially at breakfast. One poor lady was on her own serving, leaving lack of plates, lack of knives, lack of cup, milk etc ... hotel manager what were you doing at the time? Prices extraordinarily high for food and drink... eat out!

Review 104:location and views from front and side bedrooms

Review 105:Restaurant was a little over-priced and the selection--especially on the prix fixe menus--was limited. Parking was also quite limited, but there were additional parking spots nearby.

Review 106:On the beach; many rooms with a waterfront view of the cliffs or of the Arromanches landing area. Staff was great and extremely helpful.

Review 107:Bed was a little hard and the toilet was in a small cupboard, but that's being picky

Review 108:Lovely staff, great food and wonderful location next to the sea.

Review 109:Maybe the cleaning of the room. The bathroom was excellent cleaned, howver in the rooms there was dust on the carpets..

Review 110:The service and comfortable beds and friendly staff and location, excellent!

Review 111:Parking, only three spaces at the back of the hotel, unlikely to get one of them, so you must park away from the hotel on the street, we were lucky to get within 800 meters and fortunately we just had overnight bags. It was free though.

Review 112:Spacious room Great restaraunt Great location Views

Review 113:Very small room, parking difficult

Review 114:Location and view over the beach were incredible. The restaurant in the hotel was superb. Staffs of both were very kind and helpful.

Review 115:No parking. Our garret room was minute and required us to get our heavy luggage up steep stairs. No tea or coffee in the room. Restaurant was pricey. Breakfast was not included.

Review 116:Excellent position on the sea front and close to restaurants, shops etc. Very helpful receptionists. Our rental car was broken into and the staff were extremely helpful in making calls and allowing us to park in a safe spot overnight. They covered the broken window for us too.

Review 117:Location excellent, spacious room which was basic but perfect. We only stayed one night wished we could have stayed longer, would stay again. Didn't eat at the hotel so cannot comment, arrived quite late in the evening, staff were very friendly enjoyed a drink in the bar.

Review 118:The restaurant breakfast was expensive particularly for what one gets.

Review 119:The staff were very helpful. The room had a fantastic sea view The location was very good for exploring the surrounding countryside particularly the Operation Overlord beaches. The town has everything one needs. The bar was friendly and convenient.

Review 120:Hotel laundry is expensive (40 Euros). Breakfast is not all that great. Room had a musty smell to it.

Review 121:Hotel staff was nice and spoke English. The view and sounds of the ocean made for a good nights sleep. The hotel is in a nice small town with several restaurants to choose from.

Review 122:The location was sublime, the dinner we had there was lovely and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Parking was quite near and convenient with a low fee in the museum lot

Review 123:Pity about the parking situation but lucky to find space on nearby road

Review 124:Wonderful position; Excellent food; staff very helpful with good command of english

Review 125:Asked for a sea facing room, booked early, but because we booked with booking dot com. Was not given one. Not advised this would be the case.

Review 126:Lovely position and friendly staff.

Review 127:Room needed a complete re-vamp, as it all looked very tired...

Review 128:Location was fantastic, central to all restaurants/bars. First class sea view from room. Hotel restaurant was excellent....

Review 129:Mold on wall made me a little ill

Review 130:hotel room did not have tea and coffee making facilities

Review 131:The room was really big and the hotel is really well placed.

Review 132:Room was impossibly small. Shower and bathroom so cramped you could injure yourself if not careful.

Review 133:Very good restaurant facility

Review 134:The room had a musty smell.

Review 135:The location could not be better.

Review 136:Location and the food was good if a little expensively was good that they had a lift for the veterans.

Review 137:Excellent location. Reception staff extremely helpful.

Review 138:Food & drink over priced , room too small asked for sea view didn't get one.

Review 139:Location was ok.
