Reviews for Best Western Hôtel De France

Review 1:Very small room and thin towels that need replacement or at least bleaching.

Review 2:The central location and the staff. The young woman at the desk quickly volunteered to carry our bags up the steps.

Review 3:Nothing. We hope to return and will book the same hotel.

Review 4:The location is perfect. The hotel has recently been refurbished. Directly outside the hotel is an idyllic square with lovely restaurants and bars.

Review 5:The only thing I can thing of that is negative is the bedroom was a little small and only one could walk round the bed at a time.

Review 6:The location, staff and quaint hotel were excellent.

Review 7:I always love Best Western - it is always the best option among the competitors, it is always clean, new, friendly, always have teapot to prepare coffee and tea, good towels.

Review 8:Layout of tables in breakfast room could be better, plenty of space with a bottleneck around the coffee and kitchen - easily solved with a bit of thought!

Review 9:Great location on a square full of restaurants and just off the main semi-pedestrianised street. Easy parking nearby, shared with visitors to the chateau (via lifts). A pretty building of quirky stairs and corners. Very welcome aircon (39○C in July!). Good choice at self-serve breakfast.

Review 10:Could be noisy due to its center of town location. Overlooks outdoor cafes. We stayed Wednesday and Thursday Thursday night there was an accordion player playing outside our window until 11:00 and we were exhausted. From sightseeing.

Review 11:Location was excellent

Review 12:Poor facilities, aircon not working due to building work and temp in high 20s. Bathroom very very small as were beds. Very clean and friendly so shame. Some items had run out at breakfast though we weren't late .

Review 13:Good locTion

Review 14:The only letdown was the poor quality of the towels in high quality bathroom strange when bed linens very good.

Review 15:Comfortable room with friendly staff and well located for all amenities of Chinon. Parking has to be paid for but not expensive.

Review 16:We were on 2nd floor - no lift and 43 steps. Too much for elderly guests and no offer to help us with baggage. Wifi did not extend to 2nd floor, meaning hotel's claim that whole establishment was covered was untrue. Air conditioning did not work, despite temperature of 31C, until we complained. It was then repaired/activated.

Review 17:Very good location. Helpful Portuguese receptionist.

Review 18:Wi fi didn't work well in our room. Had to be in lobby area for strong enough signal.

Review 19:Well appointed room, courteous and knowledgeable staff in the prime location. Free parking on site.

Review 20:The attached restaurant is not very good so venture further if you are looking for good food. Cafe des Arts on the corner was really great and serves after 9pm as is Au Chapeau Rouge for something more upmarket.

Review 21:When you think of Best Western hotels you think of a standard building in the middle of a city where one looks pretty much like the other. This is completely different and was a very welcomed surprise. Lots of character and in a wonderful location in the little square in Chinon. We loved staying here!

Review 22:Charmingly decorated hotel that we have had our eye on for he last decade...we had a holiday home about 15k away and visited Chinon often, we just loved it there. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and, on asking, recommended Le Chapeau Rouge restaurant next door for our evening meal...superb. We shall return with friends and family!

Review 23:I found the bedroom and particularly the bathroom a bit small, though well equipped.

Review 24:Brilliant location right in a lovely square, close to many restaurants. We had a nice balcony too. The receptionist from Belgium was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and was very friendly.

Review 25:The rooms a bit small

Review 26:The location is right in the main square with all the restaurants. The hotel has private parking and great breakfast. The staff could not have been more helpful they all spoke English. I will stay there again.

Review 27:A little bit tricky to find as it was hidden in a corner of the main square. Parking in a public car park but no problems (I was told you can park in the private car park but I didn't see that on the website).

Review 28:Excellent location right in the middle of a terrific old town with lots to see. We had a great evening wandering around some fantastic streets. Everyone at the hotel was very helpful. Breakfast was ok

Review 29:Breakfast was a bit mundane and in particular, croissant and pastries disappointing. Reception staff could have been more forthcoming with information about the availability of parking spaces in the hotel's garage.

Review 30:Location right in the middle of Chinon, easy walking distance to the fortress, restaurants and all parts of town. Character of the building, with the old parts being visible despite modernisation. Nice courtyard for breakfast. Although small, the room was comfortable and well equipped.

Review 31:No lift so be prepared to carry suitcases up several flights of stairs

Review 32:Lovely central location, nicely furnished character hotel with good restaurant. Smart room with nice view of the fortress.

Review 33:The wifi didn't work, and the room was advertised as air conditioned but there was no a/c. The lack of wifi made it hard to plan the day... The staff didn't seem to care.

Review 34:The location in Chinon is excellent. It's on the main square with parking just behind. The public lot is more convenient than the hotel lot, and less expensive. There is a supermarket and pharmacy just across the square. The elevator to the castle is just behind the hotel. We stayed in an apartment with a sleeper sofa - this was actually a futon and was more comfortable than I had imagined it would be. The balcony out to the square was nice, but lacked seating.

Review 35:More milk and fridge required. Room compact but ... Ok if just required for sleeping. Parking proved difficult at times.

Review 36:Extremely comfy bed.. Balcony overlooking the square. Terrace for easy lunches and relaxing, and room in an excellent position to enjoy French living. Reception staff very cheerful and helpful. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Review 37:The smell coming out of the plumbing system was not very good. It is doubtful whether it is inevitable in such old buildings...

Review 38:The location is absolutely convenient. Hotel is clean and staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 39:Rooms are very small and stairs to room carrying a suitcase was like climbing the north face of the eiger.

Review 40:Location very good and the staff are first class, very helpful and polite.

Review 41:The rooms are quite small The breakfast could offer more variety No elevator and no one to help with the suitcases.

Review 42:The location in the center of town and at the foot of the castle. Proximity to restaurants and diverse entertainments. Parking options Historical character of the building. The staff is friendly and perfectly bilingual French English

Review 43:Room size - billed as "junior suite but only what I would expect from a decent non budget room. Given above rate seems high for room. WiFi seemed particularly slow and not reliable.

Review 44:Location. Staff. Breakfast included in price. Quality (if not size) of room

Review 45:Staff very helpful and friendly at all times Excellent location Good breakfast Good restaurant, and in the middle of many other good choices Lovely building Comfortable rooms Good value

Review 46:Central location with access to castle and old town. Atmospheric old square. Car parking facilities. Tea & coffee making facilities in room Friendly & helpful staff Good breakfast

Review 47:Heavy bedroom door - not for the very old. ( probably the cause of the peaceful room though ! ). Steep stairs to 2nd floor. No escalator.

Review 48:Central on town square, near restaurants & river, peaceful room, private car park. Good view onto square. Good self service breakfast. Provided summary news each morning in reception in different languages. Enlish spoken at reception.

Review 49:Staff were very helpful, they spoke good English as well. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant also of a high standard. The situation in the heart of the town was perfect for the national holiday.

Review 50:Just the WiFi reception was poor on the third floor and could have done with some boosters and the Main wireless router being up stairs and not behind reception as the signal tends to be stronger down stairs if the router is higher.

Review 51:The hotel was a dream and situated in a very pictures town of Chinon. It was idiolect, beautiful and charismatic in every way which lead to a whole wealth of experiences. Loved it and want to return with my wife to experience all the region has to offer.

Review 52:Room was extremely small! Breakfast bar poorly designed too small for number of guests. Empty plates not replenished.

Review 53:Ideally situated. Friendly receptionist

Review 54:Room a little on the small side

Review 55:Good central location

Review 56:Superb reception staff. Excellent breakfast. Central location

Review 57:room good, staff friendly, good location for visiting chateaus and restaurants

Review 58:Nothing

Review 59:Location, Chinon, Vineyard tours

Review 60:Very Typical French Hotel overlooking the busy square. Enjoyable Stay.

Review 61:Fantastic location

Review 62:None

Review 63:Good Hotel right in the centre of Chinon. Staff were excellent and the rooms were fresh, clean and well appointed.

Review 64:Breakfast is overpriced

Review 65:Excellent location, friendly staff and comfortable room

Review 66:WiFi non existent. Towels very poor

Review 67:Very friendly

Review 68:Nothing, great hotel

Review 69:Staff, Room, location were all perfect

Review 70:Balcony overlooking the square

Review 71:Central location

Review 72:No lift

Review 73:Superb location. Air con v. welcome when over 30° outside.

Review 74:Great position overlooking the square.

Review 75:Superb and most helpful receptionist Oriande ever!

Review 76:Location is amazing, nearby restaurants are really good, great atmosphere and lovely accommodations. Not your typical Best Western.

Review 77:comfortable and great staff

Review 78:Unhelpful staff in the attached bistro

Review 79:Character and convenience

Review 80:Breakfast was expensive and poor.

Review 81:Hotel location is good right in the centre of the old town

Review 82:Central position with secure parking.

Review 83:I have no complaints

Review 84:Location . Ease of access. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 85:Missed bacon and eggs at the breakfast buffet

Review 86:Just in the middle of the city

Review 87:Wi-fi not working with iPads. Room rather small

Review 88:Location Staff

Review 89:Internet coverage can be patchy.

Review 90:Location, helpfulness and friendliness of staff, the charm of the building.

Review 91:Everything

Review 92:Those stairs

Review 93:Location & helpful staff

Review 94:Could hear conversations in the next room!

Review 95:Very pretty quaint hotel in main square, would stay again

Review 96:No lift and 2nd flight of stairs not easy when carrying luggage. Expect to have an accident one day because of it.

Review 97:Staff Location

Review 98:There are a lot of stairs to climb but that's part of being in an historic building. Breakfast is fairly basic.

Review 99:Location cannot be beaten. Rooms are lovely. Historic architecture is like living in the past but with modern comfort.

Review 100:Weird space age plastic chairs.

Review 101:Very close to the train station which was perfect for us as we were returning a hire car there and also connecting to Paris.

Review 102:I was only there for one night!

Review 103:Its position in the centre of Chinon with plenty of parking nearby is excellent. It's an ancient building very cleverly modernised but still retaining a genuine French authenticity. Extremely clean, comfortable and with very helpful staff. As I sat on my little balcony overlooking the square in the February sunshine, reading my book and overlooked by the imposing chateau, I thought, 'life doesn't get much better than this'. There's even a discrete(ish) Carrefour Market just over the road.

Review 104:room, restaurant, common areas were all way way below areasonable standard. Way way overpriced restaurant with dreadful selection for food. Terrible "service", rooms overpriced, noisy. Never every stay there again

Review 105:no charge for dogs

Review 106:Room was so small there was almost no room for our suitcases. As it was, with our luggage in the room we had to climb over the bed to get from one side to the other because not enough room between bed and wall. Also the internet did not work very well.

Review 107:The room was too clean- also the toilets is too narrow' and there is no elavator. It's a problem to people with mobility problems.

Review 108:.A very nice hotel, at the charmy old quarter of Chinon, next to Vienne river, and monument of Rables. Nice rooms - very clean and good breakfast.. It's really a feel of 16th century.

Review 109:The hotel is in the heart of town, overlooking a cobbled plaza full of restaurants. The staff were wonderful, even helping me to find a doctor. Chinon is near chateaus and wineries, but we most enjoyed walking around this charming town and enjoying its wine and retaurants.

Review 110:I was not so keen on the two flights of stairs up to the room but on the bright side was probably fitter for them by the time we left!!!!

Review 111:The young receptionist could not have been more helpful. She was bright, friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is centrally situated in Chinon and the breakfasts were excellent.

Review 112:The initial part of room could be improved with a couple of sofas, better table, etc. Also the facing window could be replaced with normal glass. Step up into bathroom could be improved.

Review 113:Excellent location. Excellent staff. Clean room and facilities. Excellent views over Chinon.

Review 114:Terrace and restaurant closed for 2 days (sunday and monday). Noelevator and a lot of stairs.

Review 115:Location in the center of Chinon. Enough parking facilities nearby. Breakfast-buffet included.

Review 116:Nothing!!!

Review 117:It was the most delightful small hotel. The view across the square from our room was wonderful. The hotel was old and had been very well converted but keeping a lot of the original features. The staff were so helpful and polite. The automatic inclusion of breakfast was helpful - and it was delicious.

Review 118:it wasn't a problem for us but you should know that Best western Hotel in Chinon doesn't have an appartment for 3 pers. i was with my2 sisters, booked an appartment for 3 . they gave us a suite . just to your info.

Review 119:All the atmosphere

Review 120:No lift, steep stairs. To be fair, it's an historic property!

Review 121:Excellent location on the town square, yet it has its own garage. The place has a sense of history. Well modernised rooms yet the building retains old features. Aircon was very welcome, it was the hottest time of year.

Review 122:It should be French hotel with French as the first language. At breakfast there was only only English on the buffet table At all the other hotels we stayed in our luggage was taken to our rooms by staff. Not here although there was no lift.

Review 123:Quirky arrangement of rooms and staircases

Review 124:No lift! Okay with small bags but a struggle with suitcases. Room small but okay.

Review 125:Great location in the centre of town, with an excellent restaurant and very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 126:Due to very recent room renovation (June 2013) there were a lot of small`snagging` to be done (locks not working, pipes leaking, etc) but thestaff got on with fixing them fast. Probably all sorted out now.

Review 127:We had a group of 12 staying. Staff were very good, rooms were nice, breakfast was included in price, and very good. Our group ate in therestaurant and found it a good quality `bourgouis` kind of place. Thecentral location is wonderful, there is a good public parking almostnext door, we found the garage, also, caused us no problem at all.Proprietors were at reception and joined in helping out with anyproblems. Somewhat expensive but the position cannot be beaten!

Review 128:Can be hard to find parking in the area and the hotel garage is small and unpractical to drive in and out of. Can be loud area in summer.

Review 129:Great location. Newly renovated rooms. Nice breakfast buffet. Inner court for breakfast. Free WiFi. Flat Screen TV.

Review 130:Parts of the hotel just refurbished and still suffering from small snagging problems, but staff worked hard and efficiently to put them right (electronic keys not working, small leaks in pipes, etc)

Review 131:Center of town of Chinon, walking distance to most areas. Carpark close by (Hotel also has garage) Hotel restaurant very fair quality/price
