Reviews for Les Villas d'Arromanches
Review 1:We had 4 beds in a room. We were with 2 kids age 10 and 12. We were given a room in another separate building behind the main reception. Was told they will be upgrading in coming months till next April. Was disappointed that the toilet was small and old. There was no water boiler in the room to have tea / coffee. We had to walk to the main reception to get 3 cups of hot water. Cant imagine with weather is bad. The phone line was not working. No fridge in the room. Security wise, not good. Strangers can easily access in the building where we were. No pass code required or card key. With these down sides, we find the 3 nights stay pricey. There is no child price to the breakfast.
Review 2:The location is PERFECT. Walking distance to Gold beach. The beds were very comfortable.
Review 3:We've always stayed in the main building, however this past time we were put in the building next door. Overall, my husband and I agreed that the rooms weren't as well-kept as the ones in the main building. So I'd simply recommend asking for a room in the main building when you book.
Review 4:My husband and I have stayed at this hotel numerous times before. We love the location, breakfast, and the warm ambiance of the lounge area.
Review 5:The hotel was a 'work in progress' and was not ready for visitors. Our bathroom did not have blinds/curtains and looked out over a large garden.
Review 6:Not a lot! The breakfast room was quite pleasant. The breakfast was adequate. We could see the sea and the Mulberry Harbour from our bathroom window.
Review 7:The concierge was warm and welcoming. He could not have been more gracious. Our room was simple but very comfortable. I LOVED the pillows on the bed. They were wonderful. I would like to know where to buy one for my home. Breakfast was perfect. The location was very convenient and easy to find.
Review 8:This is a beautiful old house with friendly and helpful staff. It is in a perfect location for visiting the D Day landing sites, museums and cemeteries. We loved it!
Review 9:I've stayed at this hotel multiple times before, however my husband and I have always had a room in the main building. On our last stay, our room was located in a building next to the main one. I felt the rooms weren't as clean and in needing of more updating.
Review 10:I loved the lounge area and breakfast area. Both had a wonderful decor that was warm and inviting.
Review 11:The rooms were ok, but not as clean as I would like. It is an older building so please be aware of this when booking. There was some mold in our room which wasn't ideal.
Review 12:The woman working the front desk was very helpful and kind. The location was very nice, easy access to the town and pathways by walking.
Review 13:Terrible room, penetrating damp marks all over the walls and badly stained carpets. Hotel management's insistence we pay full 4 nights , which they took unauthorised from our bank account,on the day of our arrival, when we wanted to leave and go elsewhere. Other rooms offered unsuitable.
Review 14:Leaving
Review 15:Location was a little hard to find using our GPS, but that's not the hotel's fault. Stairs are a little narrow, so must be careful especially if carrying bags.
Review 16:Beautiful old house and ground, people were wonderful, and breakfast was delicious. When we called that we were arriving late, they gave a code so we could let ourselves in; very accommodating! We will stay there again!
Review 17:Rooms very small no tea coffee facilities in room Poor bathroom and storage facilities in one of the rooms we had. Coffee in breakfast room not good.
Review 18:Beautiful hotel architecture and great location..being able to walk into town to restaurants shops and attractions..fantastic. Gorgeous reception area Staff very friendly and helpful. Beds comfortable and improvements planned..
Review 19:The address really does not come up if you are using GPS to find it. However, I am sure that doing a google earth map will make finding the place very easy.
Review 20:I loved the location and that fact that it really was not your typical generic hotel. As indicated in previous reviews, the hotel is within walking distance to the town and the beach. I stayed there because it was a good location for exploring the Normandy beaches. The breakfast is above average. The rooms are basic but serve their purpose. I would stay there again, and I would recommend the hotel.
Review 21:Rooms a little small and no coffee making facility in rooms, but overall do not let this put you off.
Review 22:Location and Look of a small villa. Easy walk to sea, restaurants and Museums. Easy parking on edge of busy town.
Review 23:Hotel is getting a facelift so rooms are a bit worn but it is ok considering what it is on its way of becoming.
Review 24:The friendliest staff i've ever mer at any hotel!
Review 25:This building was built in 1880 and the current rooms were done in the late 1980's. It was not a serious issue with us, but you do hear noises from the other rooms. However it didn't bother us, we actually extended are stay two more nights.
Review 26:The owner, Luc, and his staff are fantastic. They go that extra mile or kilometer to make your stay a nice one. Luc is working right now on a plan to remodel the rooms. It was nice in the evenings to sit in the "living room" and chat with the other guest over a drink. The grounds are beautiful and there is free parking for your car. You are a short five minute walk from beach and center of the town, i e : restaurants, bakery(fresh baggettes, yummy pastries) and the museum.
Review 27:1. Room was humid and stinky! 2. Could not move in the bathroom once the door was closed. 3. 98 Euros + 35 Euros for third bed per night was excessive!
Review 28:The stairs in the main house were difficult to navigate with suitcases, even dangerous. I hope that will be improved with the major remodel they are planning this coming winter.
Review 29:The location was great. Staff helpful, room clean but very small.
Review 30:Unfortunately, we visited during terribly rainy weather and found the rooms to be quite damp and chilly. There was no dehumidifier, no fan, nor any heat. Our teen's room definitely had a musty odor. Noticeable mildew in the shower grout.
Review 31:Wonderful staff, terrific location for both sightseeing Normandy and enjoying the beach. I understand they are about to embark on much needed renovations and I would love to see the Villas after that time.
Review 32:1. Annexe quality was really below par with smelly shower cupboard and tight toilet with very small sized bedrooms with very slim walls. Main building looked much better. 2. owner was not flexible and did not act on our special request to have twin beds. we ended up not staying the third night when our son was going to share the 2nd bedroom with his grandad as a result and got not refund although they could not accomodate our request. disappointing!
Review 33:Staff and breakfast was good
Review 34:None
Review 35:Very attractive location and friendly employees, the owner of the hotel is nice to talk with also about the D-day history. Very interesting to know is that veterans of the Princes Irene brigade stayed in the hotel during the 70th anniversary of D-day in 2014. We would certainly plan a next visit to this hotel.
Review 36:The bathroom is small and our room was tight as we added a second bed because of the 4 of us. Probably best for 2 people only.
Review 37:Friendly and responsive service. We were on the ground floor near the patio. A nice group of people were having fun but it was getting to be 11:00 pm and it was getting louder. We expressed our concern to the staff and they asked the party to break up by 11:00 pm. Room was clean.
Review 38:Staff were rude and unfriendly, no warm welcome upon arrival or anysmiling throughout the stay. Room cleanliness was not good, mould onwindow, dust and cobwebs scattered throughout. Our group were sitting inthe bar one night when we were approached by the waitress who informedus the bar was closing now (11pm) and we must go outside and be veryquiet if we would like to continue socialising. Well as odd as wethought this was, the weather was pleasant enough so we obliged. Howeverthe next day the owner/manager approached us and started somethingthat can only be described as a verbal bordering physical assault on oneof our group members. (He had to be restrained and taken away outside tocalm down) Why? Because the outdoor seating had been rearranged and wineglasses were left on the tables the night before. The unprofessionalmanner in which the manager acted left out entire group with a bitteraftertaste of les Villas D'arromanches.
Review 39:Picturesque house and location.
Review 40:No tea making facilities in room...with young children we were gasping by breakfast at 8am.
Review 41:Manager always available, warm and welcoming. Clean and tidy. A little cramped but that's the nature of the beautiful building. Major renovations planned which will be excellent, making rooms bigger. Breakfast is fantastic. Brilliant location too.
Review 42:Not a bad experience, but stayed for 5 days and not enough drawers or a wardrobe for hanging clothes, only an open shelf with rail - this made life difficult as almost living out of a suitcase - it did not spoil our holiday.
Review 43:Lovely hotel, good decor, great breakfasts, super shower-although bathroom small. Easy walk into Arromaches town, but we drove to close car park as uphill walk back. Close to Bayeux and all landing beaches, lovely little town.
Review 44:NONE
Review 45:There are new owners and management, and the property has been complete renovated. Small rooms with style. (small, like most rooms in France) Fresh and clean! Breakfast was wonderful, staff friendly and helpful. Look forward to another visit. 2 star property, should be a 3 star!
Review 46:Bedroom walls a bit thin. Unavoidable noise from foot traffic on stairs
Review 47:Location on edge of town but easy walking distance to centre. Character building. Beds v comfortable.
Review 48:We had to move from our first allocated room due to a bad bathroom aroma and a cockroach! Staff were very helpful and we were given a new room immediately. Both rooms were very simple, small and pretty basic. Bathrooms can only be described as compact!
Review 49:Hotel located on the outside of village on a quiet street. Reception and bar area clean and welcoming
Review 50:The room was small, not much room for suitcases (if we had brought them).
Review 51:It was within walking distance to the town and beach. Very convenient location and free parking.
Review 52:Breakfast a little expensive, and bathrooms not quite up to standard but it is an old property and the owner is working his way through.
Review 53:Parking easy and plenty of room, lovely lounge area and service great.
Review 54:Set in a beautiful old French house, 5 minutes walk from the town centre of Arromanches. Room was not big but very clean and the bed was Soooo comfortable. Very friendly girls on reception who served us late evening drinks in the lounge.
Review 55:Wifi not very good, kept dropping out.
Review 56:The hotel is undergoing an upgrade at present, they have concentrated on the public areas and providing very comfortable beds. Idea, quiet location with plenty of parking. Easy walking distance into Arromanches.
Review 57:Very thin walls. We could hear everything our neighbors (with a baby!) were doing.
Review 58:Loved the overall look of the hotel as well as the location and staff.
Review 59:Rooms are basic, although beds very comfortable. No kettle in rooms, and shortage of coffee at breakfast time.
Review 60:Close to beach, restaurants, and of course d-day museums. Proprietor, LUc, very helpful indeed.
Review 61:Bathrooms were clean but need updating though the owner is doing this and they certainly weren't bad. Would have liked a little fridge lol. (I imagine they would have allowed us to use theirs had we asked)
Review 62:Pretty much everything. Location and room were great and the host was fantastic. They couldn't have been more helpful if they had tried. A fantastic hotel and great stay!
Review 63:Nothing
Review 64:Staff could not do enough for you.Very friendly.Great bed and bedding.Very comfy .Villa still needs updating but having spoken to the owners this being done end of the year due to difficulty's with planning as Villa is a listed property.
Review 65:Not a thing. Beautiful building, snip clean and great staff.
Review 66:We asked the proprietors to make a telephone call on our behalf to the people we were due to visit (who didn't speak English). We also asked if they could refrigerate the rather large selection of cheese we had bought, until we travelled home. Nothing was too much trouble. Spotlessly clean and a fantastic continental breakfast. We will be back!
Review 67:nothing
Review 68:The hotel was in a good location, only a 5 minute walk to the centre of Arromanches and had plenty of parking. The rooms were comfortable and breakfast was excellent. The staff were extremely helpful.
Review 69:The entry was difficult to find, would suggest sign post further up the road. Boards on the paths need attention as they are some loose ones.window in our room facing the beach wouldn't open.
Review 70:The staff was very helpful. The showers were wonderful and the beds so comfy. Breakfast was plentiful and location terrific. Would come back specially when the renovations are done.
Review 71:No elevators - we had two infirm people in our group and it was very difficult to get the suitcases up the winding stairs. Advance notice of this would have allowed us to ask for the annex or a lower room.
Review 72:The rooms were clean and spacious & the beds were FANTASTIC (very comfortable). Location was good for quiet and ease of travel to other sites in the area. Loved the local sculpture in the yard - just wish it was not so expensive. Breakfast selections were among the best on our trip, and the coffee was the best!
Review 73:beautiful hotel in a quiet area near the beach and centre. Perfect starting point for visiting all the D-Day beaches. Friendly personnel and nice breakfast.
Review 74:There is some renovation worked planned and ongoing so some décor is not yet up to scratch.
Review 75:Comfortable room. Pleasant bar area both inside and in hotel garden. Friendly staff. Very god buffet breakfast although a little pricey. I left behind accidentally my cardigan and following email to the hotel they replied promptly to say it had been found and put on one side. I was able to collect it a couple of weeks area when in the area.
Review 76:The breakfast room was a bit cramped and the food selection could have been better.
Review 77:Lovely setting, just a short walk from the sea and restaurants at Arromanches. Friendly, welcoming staff and pleasant bar area and outside seating. The site is under new ownership and a renovation is clearly in progress. I'm sure that you could find fault if you go looking, so instead just chill out and enjoy the atmosphere
Review 78:Although the rooms are spotlessly clean they are very small with thin walls.
Review 79:The hotel is in a great location close to the historic beaches and for exploring the other historic sites in the area including Bayuex and Caen.
Review 80:The owners told us in their welcome information that the hotel has updates and redecoration planned so their is no reason to complain about tiny points of decor in our en-suite bathroom, bearing in mind we also arrived as the last guests of their summer season.
Review 81:The location of the hotel could not be better and is ideally situated. At the rear of the town and looking across the valley the view is wonderful out to sea, and yet is less than 5mins walk from the major restaurants and attractions. It is easy to find from either Bayeux or if approaching from the eastern side of the coast road.
Review 82:Loved every second
Review 83:Loved every second of our trip to Arromanches and Les Villas d'Arromanches was the cherry on top. We appreciate it is an old building which the owners are updating but we felt it gave our stay a sense of old fashioned French charm. The location could not have been better as it is a short stroll to the main drag but just enough away to be peaceful and quiet for a great nights sleep. We didn't partake of the breakfast as we preferred to stroll to the local boulangerie each morning however the smells of fresh coffee and croissants were appetising. Serious value for money, was thrilled it was within our budget. We hope to return to this part of France and it will be back to Les Villas d'Arromanches for certain.
Review 84:Rooms need updating, but owner aware Has invited suggestions for improvement
Review 85:Nice hotel owners are working hard to bring hotel up to date Reception and breakfast excellent, beds very good but rooms decoration needs updated Has the potential to be a beautiful hotel Gardens as good lots of space to sit out, they have no issue with you bringing your own wine and sitting outside Would stay again
Review 86:Our room was tiny with the bed up against the wall and hardly any room for us and two suit cases. Perhaps other rooms were larger as the hotel was once a private home.
Review 87:Beautiful, spacious grounds very near the beach and the World War II Museum. The owner was very gracious and his English was excellent. Very good breakfast.
Review 88:Some lack of routine maintenance in the bedroom.
Review 89:Peaceful setting, with great views and pleasant garden. Free parking. Lovely tasteful decor. Comfortable bed and good bathroom
Review 90:Very clean room, good breakfast, friendly staff, great location. Easy 5 minute walk to town, town is very pedestrian-friendly. It was nice to have a drink at the bar on site at night. Good access to D-Day sites by car. Good value for the money. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 91:- really small rooms. We had four small beds in the room and there was no space to put two luggages in the room. - very basic furniture. They said that they are working on this, but for now, the rooms look like hospital rooms.
Review 92:- friendly staff
Review 93:Older, cramped rooms, stained carpeting, noisy corridors and stairwell. Hotel in desperate need of renovation.
Review 94:Good location, free parking in secure location, good breakfast on site
Review 95:Room furnishings need updating and furnishings need improving currently 2 stars standard.
Review 96:A very pleasant property room small but adequate for short stay and well located near township. Easy free parking in villa grounds. Clean, quiet room in annex to main building. Planned renovations should greatly improve the accommodation facilities. Friendly helpful reception and staff. Pleasant attractive general lounge area.
Review 97:Fire escape down internal wooden stairs needs to be upgraded. Stairs are winding and narrow - no lifts. Electrical sockets need to be checked as one in room was loose in the wall.
Review 98:Friendly staff, always ready to help. Comfortable bed, good Wifi, small en suite but adequate. Good value breakfast with willing staff to help. Stairs may have been difficult but the Owner was very obliging and carried cases upstairs.
Review 99:We were on motorcycles, and the long driveway and parking area is quite thick gravel which is treacherous on a bike.
Review 100:The staff were great and made every effort to speak in English, as my French is quite bad. Room was nice with a lovely view over the town, continental breakfast was nice, good Wi-Fi signal so I could stay in touch with home, and they kept us topped up with wine whilst we relaxed in the evening in the lounge.
Review 101:Room was a little small but had a nice balcony door allowing lots of fresh air.
Review 102:The location near the sea and restaurants whilst remaining peaceful. The staff were always helpful and I would love to return. It was an excellent base for visiting the D-Day sites and World Equestrian Games in Caen.
Review 103:Our room was small and simply appointed, as advertised, but great value so nothing negative to say"
Review 104:Owners were very friendly and helpful, recommended two excellent restaurants for dinner. Great location for touring DDay beaches with secure parking on site and wonderful, varied breakfast. Also provided bar with good selection of great wines and other drinks and coffee. Definitely recommend.
Review 105:Small rudimentary room not remotely like the rooms shown online. Mold in the shower and an electric outlet half out the wall...shock hazard?
Review 106:Location and easy to find. Reception area was pleasant.
Review 107:Pebble driveway - I`m being picky !!!!
Review 108:The standard of this hotel is very high and the future improvements the owner plans to make will put it in the excellent category !
Review 109:So noisy - you can hear people above/below and each side of you - walls are paper thin you can hear every word spoken. No tea/coffee making facilities and very expensive for what you (don't) get
Review 110:Great location but despite efforts being made this has a long way to go to be an average hotel
Review 111:When we had a problem with our car the hotel staff did everything they could, without hesitation, to help sort the problem. Good location Friendly staff Comfortable bed Would stay again
Review 112:It didn't bother us, but less able guests might find the lack of a lift a problem. Perhaps this should be highlighted............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Review 113:Lovely old mansion restored by family owners. 5 min walk from all you want in Arromanches. Lovely staff and comfy beds .....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Review 114:The hotel exterior is beautiful, as is the newly refurbished dining area. Although the rooms are dated and could do with being renovated, they were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to other travellers.
Review 115:The bathroom is clean, though due for a refurb.
Review 116:The lovely garden and outdoors areas, well maintained and originally decorated with cow structures. The safe parking area The warm welcome from the staff The French breakfast buffet The cotton bed linen The convenient and quiet location Guys, you are doing a
Review 117:Wardrobe not big enogh for aweeks stay No chest of drawers for t shirts etc table and large mirror waste of space carpet tired could do with a lick of paint
Review 118:Breakfast excellent location excellent beds excellent grounds lovely
Review 119:Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
Review 120:Beds and pillows were really comfortable and so making sure we all had a good night sleep
Review 121:All ok
Review 122:Good location on outskirts of arromanche. Museum, gold beach, mulberry harbour and 360 degree cinema all in walking distance. Room good .bed comfy. And breakfast plentiful. We had room on top floor with views across village out to sea. Staff friendly and helpful. Recommended
Review 123:Some rooms still in need of updating, but owners are gradually working their way through the rooms.
Review 124:Nice gardens, 5min walk into Arromanches, excellent breakfast, simple rooms but clean, fresh and comfy beds.
Review 125:The rooms are really small and a bit outdated. The breakfast is €9.50 and way over priced for what you get. There should atleast be a boiled egg for that price!
Review 126:The location is great with beautiful grounds and a nice view from the rooms upstairs. The option for room service..awesome! The staff were also friendly and helpful.
Review 127:Basic rooms that we're looking very tired and in need of a total refurbishment facilities very dated.we didn't bother with breakfast as with two teenage sons found that it wouldn't satisfy their appetites and rather costly.
Review 128:Good location.
Review 129:My other half would have liked breakfast to include some boiled eggs, otherwise nothing we didn't like
Review 130:Extremely comfy bed Very good ensuite Lovely sitting room Great parking Location superb Lovely grounds
Review 131:A comfortable Inn in a picturesque, slightly faded seaside town. Situated in an historic manor home, right on the road, with a beautiful view of the town, ocean, and beach. Very laid back and easy atmosphere. 5 minute walk to the beach and the heart of town. Super comfortable beds and linens!
Review 132:bathroom needed a good clean - yes, there are refurb plans but the bathroom was pretty mouldy. Shame as rest of room, whilst rather dated, was fine if a bit small for three of us.
Review 133:Really good location. Easy to find, impressive building. Helpful staff.
Review 134:Room a little on the small side (but the owner says the hotel will refurbed to have fewer but larger rooms).
Review 135:Excellent location, helpful and friendly staff, beautiful building, plenty of parking space. I'd be happy to stay again.
Review 136:Room small, but hotel is under going a refurbishment in the autumn. Less rooms as they are being made larger.
Review 137:good location. Manager/ owner very accommodating . breakfeast buffet excellent.
Review 138:We stayed in a large room on the ground floor of a building behind the principal building. It was a little musty and damp, but I suspect that the other rooms in the hotel were not.
Review 139:This is a beautiful place, located within easy walking distance of the lovely seaside town of Arromanches, and convenient to many destinations. I would recommend it to other families.
Review 140:the bed wasn't comfortable and the breakfast was overvalued
Review 141:the friendliness of the staff ,the home feeling and the great location ...
