Reviews for Hostal Rio Selmo

Review 1:I had reserved for 2 nights originally, then changed the same booking for one night - However somehow the hotel had got 2 reservations under my name - The receptionist insisted I should cancel the second reservation so they wouldn't be charged twice by Booking.com, even though I already explained several times I could not cancel because on my end I made only one reservation - This was an issue on their end and not mine but I somehow felt they held me responsible for it

Review 2:Close to bus station and the Templars Castle, nice breakfast room, single room was OK for one night, clean and modern

Review 3:Just wasn't grooving on this place. getting a little rundown. Curtains were kinda dingy. Some mold/water damage on wall in room, other places around hotel too. Wifi didn't work in the room. Was ok in the hallway, where unsay for a while, but the motion sensor light would turn off every minute or so, and I had to flap around quite a bit to turn it back on.

Review 4:The WiFi didn't really work in the room as advertised.

Review 5:The secure access card system works really well. The breakfast was cheap and good for Camino walkers. Staff very friendly for a Sunday stay.

Review 6:The manager were very helpful and accommodated ourselves and bikes for the camino without fuss. Special mention to the lovely Matilde who looked after us on our departure

Review 7:Staff were very helpful. Doing the Camino we had an unusual request with bags to be sent to another town and they were excellent. Rooms are nice but basic, all you need.

Review 8:Walk to historic center and not in best area but still a near efficient little hotel, basic room

Review 9:Right on the Camino but about 5 minute walk from historic center

Review 10:Could not access hotel from the carport lift... All access doors locked. Very poor lighting in garage. Paid for a continental breakfast which showed croissants and toast and fruit as well as juice......got maderia cake and a small glass of juice. Was advised that I had to pay for anything else. Very very very poor reception service. Always flirting, smoking or drinking. Will never stay or recommend.

Review 11:Hard to find. It's tucked away in a corner and not visible unless you're coming from a direction you're unlikely to be coming from (ie it's hard to find from bus or train station). I stayed 3 nights and the air conditioning was out most of the time. The staff only speaks Spanish so once I conveyed that the AC wasn't working they tried to fix it. Once it worked for a few hours then was out again. Another time it was working then went out about 9 pm and was out all night. The room had no windows so it got incredibly hot. The internet went out another night and I couldn't convey to the staff what the problem was. The reception desk was usually empty and trying to explain a problem over the phone didn't work due to language problem. This is not a city used to many tourists so I would stay elsewhere. They mainly get pilgrims who stay one night so repeat customers are not a priority.

Review 12:Location was good; close to old town and bus station and not too far from train station.

Review 13:Signage on outside of hotel very remote and in corner. I actually walked past hotel searching else where.

Review 14:Desk Staff were very obliging, nothing was a problem.

Review 44:Stopped here the night before I started the Camino to Santiago. Great overnight stop. Good clean bedroom with very comfortable twin beds, great well equipped bathroom. Short walk to restaurants and bars. Bus station only a ten minute walk away. Reception staff didn't speak English but as I don't speak Spanish that seems fair and they were very helpful anyway. Would recommend as a great budget friendly overnight or two night stop.
