Reviews for Hôtel d'Arromanches Pappagall

Review 1:Check in was difficult with a girl that had little or no English. I gaveher my booking references print out and she still looked at me as if Ihad ten heads. After getting the key to the room I had to ask her how toget to the room or even show me the way. When I asked about breakfast itwas €10 for a cup of tea/coffee and a ham and cheese sandwich andtold that’s all we serve for breakfast. We returned to the hotel at10.50pm on a Saturday night and the women behind the bar refused toserve us even as I told her we were residents she just walked away. Thismade me feel like a child I called her back to explain why I was not tobe served and she just went into the back office. This was an absolutelyappalling way to treat a customer. Upon check out the same women seen mestanding at the desk and would not come out to me. I ended up handingthe key to a waitress and leaving. If anyone is thinking of staying herethink again.

Review 2:It’s a fantastic location to explore the area of Normandy, Plenty ofrestaurants and walks in the area to do with access to a museum and acar park close by to park in.

Review 3:Nothing terrible, but would really have loved a kettle or coffee pot in our room as breakfast was an extra 10 euros and we didn't really want that. Also be warned - very very tiny stairs and corridors!

Review 4:Lovely multi-lingual owners we so kind and friendly. Bathroom nice and modern, comfy bed. Quite small room but we managed ok. View of the sea and main street from our room was fun too.

Review 5:Parking can be difficulty, rooms up narrow passages difficult for those with walking difficulties.

Review 6:Close to the beaches and town centre. Fod served in the bar area

Review 7:Strange window in the top of the ceiling: There was no window in the room where you could look out! it has given me the feeling that I am in a box... There was a window only in the top of the ceiling, in around 4-5 m height, which you could open only with a remove control. In my booking confirmation there was that we booked a double room with 23qm. The room was no more then 12-14qm (together with the bathroom...), very small!

Review 8:Very near to the beach and museum. Offical parking of the city is less then 50m, to be paid only from 9am to 7pm. Actually if you leave before 9am you don't have to pay even if you entered the parking area 2 days ago as the gates are opened till 9. I realized it only after i have paid the parking ticket!

Review 9:Not the 'freshest' of accomadation, but adequate. A 'thank you' would have been nice when I paid the bill

Review 10:Location, in centre of vile just yards from the beach and free parking.

Review 11:The accommodation was just as we had expected. No dislikes!

Review 12:The hotel was well placed close to the beach and Museum. Fairly quiet time of year with not many about. The hotel was small and had great character. It served our needs extremely well. The owners were very friendly and we would definitely stay again. Thank you!!

Review 13:Not a complaint, as this is completely normal for a building of this era, but simply pointing out that people with mobility issues should be aware that there is a rather steep narrow stairway to the rooms, and a low threshold you need to be aware of if you're tall.

Review 14:Small family run hotel with restaurant right at the beach in the center of town. Staff was very attentive to our needs and quite helpful as we waited for our checked luggage to catch up to us from Paris. Quaint but functional room. Windows open. Great location to explore all the beaches of Normandy. Rent car in Bayeux (short cab ride from train station) and it's only a 10 minute ride to hotel .

Review 15:Only downside was the internet reception, which was very poor.

Review 16:The location was perfect - just a few steps from the harbor and the beach. This hotel is a great base for exploring Normandy. The breakfast was also god value at ten Euros.

Review 17:Wished there was a usable wifi in room or the hotel generally but it was painfully slow. However, you can go to bistro nearby and use theirs. There is no elevator, so the hotel will not be suitable for everyone, but we didn't mind to use the stairs.

Review 18:The room was big and clean, we loved the bathroom & room 8 has a double and a single bed, very spacious. Location is great. The beach is just around the corner. Good restaurant downstairs. Free parking available nearby on street but have to look for it.

Review 19:When booked vehicle parking space was advertised. This was important to me as a motorcyclist. On arrival informed the parking area had been sold off. Staff indifferent, an email could have been sent and I would have changed my booking. Poor communications! Luckily no problems with interference to our bikes parking in the main payable sea front car park.

Review 20:Location, location,location.

Review 21:Tramp with dog & goat outside window woke us several times during the night. Manager was offhand. Neither Wi Fi or TV didn't work at night. Bar and dining area cramped.

Review 22:Bed & Shower were good

Review 23:Heavy chemical smell from washroom was overpowering when door open. Don't stay for their 10€ breakfast, it's very minimal not worth the money. Manager rude.

Review 24:Proximity to water

Review 25:Street noise (mostly early morning heavy traffic), no wifi in room, only paid parking near hotel (free parking under 10 minutes by foot), no elevator.

Review 26:Friendly reception, central location, nice restaurant, steps from museum, shops and Mulberry Harbour.

Review 27:We booked the hotel because wi-fi was important to us (we had a teenager with us) and we were very frustrated to discover that wi-fi only worked in the restaurant and it closed between 9 and 10pm.

Review 28:The room was nice and large enough to accomodate three people. Most of the service was very nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel is right on the beach where you find the artificial harbour from D-day and there is a museum right there too. It's a great starting point for exploring everything that has to do with the invasion. The dinner we had at the hotel was very nice.

Review 29:No hotel parking. Had to walk about 2 blocks with luggage. Very loud people in the streets when we were trying to sleep.

Review 30:Close location to WWII beach, restaurants, pedestrian area. Breakfast was great.

Review 31:Wifi doesn't work very well, can be a bit noisy (street), steep narrow stairs.

Review 32:Quaint hotel with a few small rooms above a restaurant. Right in the center of the town, across from the Tourist Information, on the walking street and a block from the museum. Clean rooms with comfortable beds. One of the buildings standing on D-day.

Review 33:Lack of places to eat.

Review 34:Location was perfect.

Review 35:Central location so noisy at night

Review 36:Very handy for WW2 and D Day history

Review 37:no internet , poor breakfast

Review 38:Noise from the room above, rooms a little tired.

Review 39:Easy check in, hotel in a great location, good value. Very comfy bed and pillows. Nice and clean.

Review 40:The proprietor was great! He was very gracious and helpful. The room was light and airy and well equipped.

Review 41:Central, friendly, convenient in the town.

Review 42:The food was great, owners very welcoming, exactly what we needed

Review 43:location, nice room

Review 44:Warm welcome & personal requests complied with.

Review 45:Wifi didn't work No kettle in room Pillows were past sell by date

Review 46:Staff Lovely Clean

Review 47:Location and courteous, friendly staff

Review 48:WiFi very poor in room

Review 49:Location Meals

Review 50:Central location

Review 51:Everything was excellent

Review 52:Location, Facilites, meals, Staff

Review 53:Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Charming little hotel right by the sea. Thankyou for a lovely stay. Andrew and Jo. England.

Review 54:Great location and gluten-free friendly restaurant

Review 55:None whatsoever. We have a good time and love the area where the hotel is situated.

Review 56:The manager/owner is very helpful to all our needs regarding tours, etc. and just want to say thanks to all. also good food.

Review 57:My wife and I are very impressed by the cleanliness and excellent service you gave us. I travelled along the whole world, mostly in 5 ***** hotels. You are the first in my experience that supply EVERY day new bedsheets and fresh towels. Room #2 was superb and although it is an ancient building, you managed to equalize modern 2014. The WiFi can use some renovation. Your kitchen and menu diversity are unique within your pricelist. Chapeau pour vous et a bientôt! And to quote my fellow countryman Arnold Schwarzenegger: I'LL BE BACK!!! Diane & Franz

Review 58:Lack of free parking, very sketchy wifi.

Review 59:Very friendly host, great restaurant in the hotel, location, steps from the beach, museum and other attractions..

Review 60:wifi does not work well, very little bandwidth if you can connect to the internet at all. Turns off at night! Food is poor value and breakfast is expensive at 10 Euros and cold coffee. Did not receive our booking from Booking.com? and gave us a smaller room, but at a smaller rate, so good in that respect

Review 61:Location is good

Review 62:Located in small town and they empty the dustbins, clean the streets etc very early in the morning.

Review 63:Friendly management and staff. Clean rooms and good food.

Review 64:My favourite hotel of our week in Normandy. Ideal location in historic town, friendly happy staff, great food at good price. If you want to enjoy a small Normandy hotel with no frills, this is the best. There's even a small pub not far away. Parking is free in the square between 19.00 - 9.00am then 1 euro per hour but many nearby free.

Review 65:Street parking was in early Aug was quite scarce (but managed).

Review 66:Friendly! Helpful! Pleasant staff/management (owners)! Excuse the exclamations but this is FR. About as central as you can get. Food on offer in dining area, while not particularly good (pretty ordinary really), was non-toxic and about on par for this tourist area. Overall, considering the location, the hotel's quite good value & very clean.

Review 67:Noisy. Broken showerhead. Mold in shower. Stained carpets. Interior had its best times. Dirty.

Review 68:Well placed, just besides the beach. Comfortable bed.

Review 69:The rooms and dining area are all tastefully decorated, the space is small but well-utilized. The couple that runs the hotel is helpful and friendly. The breakfast is lovely. The proximity to the the landing museum can't be beat- there are nice restaurants up and down the street, the neighborhood bakery is also conveniently located. We really enjoyed our time.

Review 70:No air-con so noisy when windows open. No kettle in room - although staff did get us one when I asked

Review 71:Large rooms, Bath as well as shower - great for baby! Very friendly, accommodating staff. Restaurant downstairs is really good.

Review 72:Location - noisy with loud yobs walking past on our second night. We didnot feel particularly welcome - breakfast was meagre and served withsome reluctance on the first morning, because we had not booked thenight before, and yet there was some surprise when we left on the secondmorning without bothering with breakfast. Whilst the sheets etc werespotlessly clean, there was a lingering smell of stale cigarette smokein the bedding.

Review 73:Location - close to D-Day museum. The young waitress in the restaurantwas friendly.

Review 74:Close to the Normandy beaches. Located on Gold Beach and a short drive to the other Normandy beaches. The owners were great hosts. We enjoyed our stay.

Review 75:Parking was a problem on the day of arrival which was a weekend. I understand that this was an exception. We thought breakfast was expensive at 10 Euros

Review 76:The staff were friendly and, despite a rather down-at-the-heel entrance, the room was spacious and comfortable and tastefully decorated. Good value. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Within easy reach of the beaches.

Review 77:There was no heat when we were there and we were chilly at times.

Review 78:The owners and staff are the most friendly and helpful. The location is excellent as it is only a block from the shore. The facility is nicely kept up and the restaurant serves delicious meals.

Review 79:Miserable patron, closed after late afternoon and your website only showed some rooms available that were too large for us but on arrival we discovered that smaller rooms were actually available.

Review 80:Great location.

Review 81:We liked the friendliness of the owner and staff. The meals were excellent, and the location was perfect. The D-Day Museum d'Arromanches was within walking distance, and the other D-Day memorials a short distance away.

Review 82:The owners were very friendly and took great care of us from the moment we walked in the door. The hotel is right at the heart of town, near the museum, beach, a great patisserie, shops and restaurants. Why go to another restaurant, though, when the best dinner we had on our trip was courtesy of the chef the inn hired for their restaurant. Chef Amaury is fantastic. The town is in a great location if you intend to go to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.

Review 83:Not ideal for the less mobile as there are narrow staircases to contend with and no lift.

Review 84:A small quaint family run hotel. The owners & staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. A prefect base visiting the Normandy beaches.

Review 85:The owners went out of there way to personally take care of me when Iwas a day late in getting to their hotel due to the snow storm in earlyMarch. I was the only guest since all others canceled because the roadswere almost impassable due to the storm. I had the whole staff and hotelto myself for 3 days.. The chefs gormet meals were not to be missed.Thank you for the comfortable room, wonderful service and warm welcome!

Review 86:The hotel is older and has great history and charm. As a result, like somany small, family-run hotels, it does not have an elevator. If you cannavigate stairs and want to be with real French people, climbing a fewstairs is a very small price to pay.

Review 87:This is our third stay at Hôtel d'Arromanches Pappagall and it getsbetter each time. We will be back again. My family of four booked tworooms for two nights in late February 2013. The rooms were comfortable, clean and centrally located. We were greeted warmly and the staff workedhard to please us. Visiting this hotel just for an overnight stay wouldbe a very good idea for anyone, but you must try the food. The head chefis young, but he is oh-so-good. We've been to Europe 13 times in 14years. Our meals at la Pappagall were highlights of this trip. Myrecommendation? Have fun and ask the chef to chose what's served foryou. We did that and we were thrilled with the results. The food is topnotch and justifies a trip to Arromanches just for the experience. Thisrestaurant, this food, this hotel are not to be missed. Please put it onyour list of places to stay.

Review 88:We couldn't get the internet to work-hotel staff tried but were unable too fix it. Also, there was mold growing on the tile in the shower as well as on the tiled walls outside of the shower in the bathroom.

Review 89:Nice location near the beach. Owner and staff very nice and helpful. Restaurant was pretty good as well as a good value compared to others around the area.

Review 90:When we arrived we were told that they did not have our reservations, as they don't work with booking.com and haven't for two years. It was a busy weekend and the hotel was FULL! The host was frantic and felt sorry for us and found accommodations for two different places the two nights and then made reservations at his place for the other two nights. I'm very reluctant to ever go through your company to make reservations in the future, as this could very well happen again. I also sent an email on your site telling you about our problem and have not heard back from you. I suggest you contact this hotel before this happens to another unsuspecting sole. I will also tell our traveling friends about our experience with your company, so they will be aware of how you do business.

Review 91:The only thing wrong was the two flights of stairs to our room and if ever there had been a fire, I dont know how you would of got out other than through the window.

Review 92:The location was good, the staff friendly and a good general atmosphere

Review 93:I was over charged 163 Euro to much and didnt notice untill I gothome.More care should be taken when final Bills come out of theComputor.Im now in the process of claiming it back,i hope it dose nottake to long.

Review 94:Location was good, good staff, and the food was good.Best Cuppachinoin the area.

Review 95:I made the reservation on booking.com and when we showed up we were told they did not have our reservation. The staff said they would "see what they can do" and went to see if they had a room available for us. Only after they told us they could find a room for us did they figure out that they had written us down as arriving the next day (when we had shown up on the correct date as per our booking.com confirmation). The staff did not apologize but just brushed the whole thing off. They put us in room #3, which is at the very top of the spiral staircase. The room itself was fine, but it was a weekday and there were plenty of other rooms that were empty that night, so I am not sure why the staff had to go "check" to see if they had an available room to accommodate our one-night stay. The free wifi did not work - our smartphones were barely able to even detect the netwok, much less connect to it in both the lobby and in our room - despite the staff's protestations that it was "impossible" that it did not work.

Review 96:The location of the hotel was great, right on the beach, close to parking (which is free free overnight) and restaurants.

Review 97:Shower cubicle a bit mildewed. No cereal or fresh fruit for breakfast.

Review 98:Excellent location. Friendly staff. Good value for money. Good evening meals with fresh seafood.

Review 99:Breakfast was only served between 08.30 and 09.30 and evening meals finished at 21.00.. but snack menu still available

Review 100:The staff were very friendly and the food was very good, they made you feel very welcome. Excellent location. Lots of good cafes around, but mainly ate in Hotel. Stayed with my two boys on a D Day site holiday could not have been better. Boys loved it.

Review 101:The location was ideal as my 12 year old son wanted to visit the D Day beaches and museums. The hotel is few metres from Gold Beach and central point to visit the above. It had a good restaurant and the service was excellent.

Review 102:Friendly staff went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of.When we realized we'd forgotten to print our train tickets, they offeredto let us print them from their office computer. Excellent service!

Review 103:The narrow, winding stairs were a little hard to navigate, especially with luggage, and the smells from the kitchen sometimes added to the discomfort of the stairwell, but that's pretty minor against how much we enjoyed our stay.

Review 104:We loved this hotel and the town of Arromanches. The room and bathroom were spacious, and the location was perfect for exploring the D-Day sites and enjoying a glass of wine or a crepe at the end of the day. We stayed for four nights and could have happily stayed longer.

Review 105:Lack of car parking facilities meant we had to park some distance away and carry suitcases. (we are both aged 72!)

Review 106:Centrally situated. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. Comfortable room with good en-suite facilities.

Review 107:the Pub downstairs at the hotel was very loud one evening there was no door to close between the pub and the staircase of the hotel. Breakfast was good but too expensive at 10EUR you would expect a buffet. You have to use a public parking lot which is only free during night from 7:00pm to 9:00am or you have to park somewhere around in the streets. Despite all this we would stay again for a couple of nights.

Review 108:We would stay again for a couple of nights.

Review 109:Family run, friendly helpful staff, cosy atmosphere. The hotel was cleanand attractive. Rooms were comfortable. Great choice and quality of foodin their restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 110:No elevator and stairs were steep and narrow. Village is small and thus there is no local taxi service, but staff phoned to Bayeux, and the taxi fare Arromanches to Bayeux train station was then 26 Euros

Review 111:Proximity to D-day landings and site of Port Winston. Close to the centre of town and services. Supper menu and service was very good.

Review 112:Poor parking availability.

Review 113:Excellent location. Very good restaurant and very friendly staff.

Review 114:Nothing at all well done

Review 115:The change of towels every day was excellent and the location excellent great place would book again if we are back again

Review 116:Just the breakfast, bit more choice maybe. That's all!

Review 117:Very welcoming and helpful, spotlessly clean.

Review 118:Location great for D-Day beaches

Review 119:Coffee at breakfast was not hot enough.

Review 120:Staff were very friendly and polite. Enjoyed evening meal.

Review 121:Restaurant not open in the evening. Hotel unmanned in the evening and during the night,an emergency number was available if required

Review 122:All good.

Review 123:Proximity to Normandy Landing sites, and the Sea. Very helpful owner.

Review 124:Restaurant. Great modules frites!

Review 125:Lack of parking. Arromanches is a very busy village and it was difficult to find nearby parking until late evening

Review 126:Position of hotel Good breakfast
