Reviews for Le Relais Vauban
Review 1:Very basic, no lounge, no comfortable chairs in bedroom, no snack basics in room like kettle/cup/tea/milk/sugar. I didn't know you could a shower so small. I felt price was pretty steep for it.
Review 2:Clean warm but very basic. Central location good.
Review 3:Breakfast was reasonable but not a lot of choice. No ham and no eggs but there was cheese, yogurts and fruit.
Review 4:Very central hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Rooms clean and large.
Review 5:Nothing too bad, but the breakfast was average for price but convenient
Review 6:Very comfortable bed. Shower that worked well. Good location near the motorway and about 1 1/4 hrs from Tunnel.
Review 7:Nothing bad, but still waiting for European hotels to provide tea and coffee making facilities
Review 8:Clean comfortable room. Nice welcome. Good position. Had a great meal in the grill opposite.
Review 9:Nearly got locked out because we weren't told we needed a code for the main door at night. All sorted quickly though. Breakfast room a bit small for the number of rooms.
Review 10:Friendly welcome, very comfortable rooms, good breakfast.
Review 11:It needs to be refurbished and brought up to a better standard
Review 12:It was convenient for an early tunnel crossing and situated in the centre of an otherwise dull town Very basic amenities showing its age
Review 13:Room a little dated and in need of a bit of renovation.
Review 14:Convenient night stop en route back to Eurotunnel. Close to Abbeville town centre with plentiful shops and eateries.
Review 15:Decor is a little dated but the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is well situated for travellers stopping over on their way to/from elsewhere in France with Gardens restaurant, serving pleasant food even on Sunday evenings.
Review 16:The room was quite small and pretty basic, decoration minimal, shower one of those in-the-bath ones with no curtain or hook, difficult to use without getting water everywhere. Having asked for a quiet room, we had one at the back (good) but off a landing and subject to some noise, including the odd bump on the door, as people passed.
Review 17:Very convenient location, 10 minutes' walk from the Hotel de Ville and handy for the autoroute.
Review 18:No lounge area and dining room is rather sparse, but for one night stays it is fine. Breakfast 9 Euros for bread, croissant, soft cheese, fruit, yoghurt. No toast or cold meats.
Review 19:Value for money, basic hotel. Ideal stop over one hour from Calais. Abbeville is an attractive Flemish style architecture town, if a little run down. Recommend the Buffalo Grill American food in a food 'mall' in the commercial part just south of the town.
Review 20:only one bath towel but I think this was probably an oversight.
Review 21:We were greeted by the manager who was very informative and booking in was easy. We had a good room at the back of the hotel and although on the stairs this did not cause much disturbance. The bed and bedding was excellebnt quality. A large kingsize with lovely quality bedding. Wifi log on was easy and fast. The breakfst was great and the price very reasonable. We would stay here ain if we were in this part of France as great for the tunnel to and from France.
Review 22:Nothing wrong with the hotel. Abbeville was very quiet even on a Friday and Saturday in the evening.
Review 23:Good location, 5-10 mins from the Autoroute, free parking outside and easy walk to the centre of town. Availability of 4-bed room for the whole family. Friendly owners. Perfect stopover for us en-route to Brittany.
Review 24:Good location for the channel ports. Excellent welcome and very clean, large room. Abbeville is nothing special. Use 'Le Jardin', the excellent restaurant directly opposite the hotel.
Review 25:Very dated rooms in need of upgrading Beds very lumpy but good sized rooms Noise could be an issue as on busy roundabout
Review 26:Great location, helpful staff Good breakfast
Review 27:Bed was really uncomfortable, only one pillow which was not good. Noroom facilities I.E. tea / coffee (which you do get at similargrade hotels).
Review 28:Wifi was good / location to Calais & Boulogne
Review 29:Town isn't much to see although there are 1 or 2 things i.e. Church to fill an afternoon.
Review 30:Friendly hotel in good location for stopover. easy to find and clean.
Review 31:There were no parking spaces - you had to find your own. There were no tea/coffee making facilities. The toilet seat and toilet was dirty. The breakfast was minimal and of poor selection.
Review 32:The location was good.
Review 33:A good location for travelling through and right opposite a great, family run, restaurant serving traditional French cuisine. The hotel owner is very friendly and speaks very good English. The rooms are a little tired but fine for a night and good value for money,
Review 34:Lack of tea/coffee in the room, but this is fairly normal for France.
Review 35:Free public parking and reassurance from the owner. Restaurants nearby. Close to Channel ports
Review 36:Beds hard and uncomfortable. Room poky and comfortless. Furnishings cheap and dingy. Bathroom tiny and grotty. No lift and stairs steep.
Review 37:Staff polite and very friendly. Location central, easy to find and parking good. Room quiet and airy. Linen very clean.
Review 38:Nothing was bad.
Review 39:good value for money for stopover on long drive from south of France - perfect. Four bed room and a double were both fab. Host has very good English ( perfect if ur French is not fluent ) and was very helpful. Would definitely stay again. Abbeville is lovely.
Review 40:As the hotel is on a roundabout and our room was at front of hotel it was quite noisy overnight. No facilities in room for making tea or coffee.
Review 41:Good fast free Wi-Fi.
Review 42:Very polite and friendly staff. Breakfast typically French with and with lots of good coffee. For a short break this hotel is basic but clean and comfortable. There`s a restaurant just across the road.
Review 43:No lift. We had to carry our cases up two flights of stairs.
Review 44:The situation of the hotel, easy street parking free.the room we had was quiet even though the hotel is situated ajacent to a very busy roundabout.
Review 45:No lifts. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Hotel generally needs updating. Requested a quiet room on my booking form was given one overlooking a large roundabout, luckily double glazing kept out most of the noise, but would be unable to sleep if the windows need to be opened in the warmer evenings.
Review 46:I liked Abbeville and this area of France. There is a very good restaurant across the road from the hotel called 'The Garden' with friendly staff and very good food at reasonable prices.
Review 47:Room on 2nd floor, 4 flights of stairs-no lift. Decor needs brightening up.
Review 48:Good location. Public parking very close and free. Our room was very large.
Review 49:The hoteliers were pleasant and accommodating. I don't speak French but that was not a problem. Not a fancy hotel but everything was clean especially the bedding which is vital.
Review 50:We were on 3rd floor so a lot of steps ..... We are too unfit! Could be an issue if physically impaired ..
Review 51:Central location. Comfy beds and lovely warm shower. What more do you need?
Review 52:No secure parking, but free on-steet parking very close by.
Review 53:Within easy reach of the autoroute going north or south, a straight forward drive in to town. Several restaurants close by.
Review 54:As is made clear in the description of the hotel it is located next to a busy roundabout, so if you are looking for a long and languorous lie in in the morning this may not be for you.
Review 55:Just an hour's drive from Calais. Plenty of free parking near the hotel. 5 minutes stroll from the centre of town with bars and restaurants. Very pleasant reception and English spoken.
Review 56:As I was driving, the location was important. It was easy to find and plenty of parking space close by. The owner was polite, charming and helpful. The hotel was restful and quiet, with a good breakfast in the morning to see me off. I came back on my return journey for these reasons.
Review 57:The hotel is a convenient stopping off point on our journey from the channel ports. It is clean, the staff are friendly and speak English, the breakfast is all we could wish for.
Review 58:Nothing special really. Maybe we would have tried the breakfast if it had been a bit less expensive (9€ per person)
Review 59:The bed was really comfortable and the staff very helpful. The price was very reasonable so we knew the equipment of the room would be basic but for our one night's stay close to la Baie de Somme it was really all we needed. The whole family slept well (although it was good we brought our own mattress for the baby kot as the kot of the hotel was missing one) and we would definitely recommend it for short stays in this region. We also appreciated the public free parking close to the hotel.
Review 60:No curtains in room only nets, so all lights shone in, didn't get much sleep. Lots of mouse from other rooms and corridors.
Review 61:Location for travelling back to Calais next day.
Review 62:Hotel on corner of large island so traffic noise inevitable. Windows secondary glazed but soundproofing between rooms was poor. Room was cramped. Lack of restaurants for evening meal.
Review 63:Location on edge of interesting old town. Easy parking. Helpful staff.
Review 64:Having a room on the front overlooking the road made it quite noisy from early I. The morning a room on the back would be better
Review 65:The ability to park the car safely coupled with the ease of finding the hotel, the owner was ver welcoming
Review 66:Bathroom was in poor repair. Toilet cistern moving around and sink blocked. Tiles fell off the wall as my husband was finishing his shower! Fortunately not when the children were using it, however that meant that they were unable to shower at all. The owner was apologetic, saying he was so busy he didn't always get time to check between guests. He gave us free breakfast but I don't really think that makes up for it.
Review 67:Hotel is central to the town and people friendly. Free Wifi throughout.
Review 68:Weak coffee and car park was public c ar so quite busy, we ended up parking further away from the hotel than we would have liked
Review 69:Location of the hotel within walking distance from town centre and restaurants, delicious breakfast croissants, good value for money, easy to find
Review 70:We picked the family room with 4 beds. We didn't realise that this meant we would be on the third floor (no lifts). More of an issue, though, was that the third floor is the smoking area. The smell of smoke was strong enough to prevent me getting a good night's sleep. Our neighbours were quite noisy too - I wasn't expecting to be able to hear them as the room was described as "sound-proofed".
Review 71:The internet was good, as was the location. Abbeville itself was pretty (even on a rainy day) and we had a nice meal at the restaurant opposite the hotel. Although we didn't take breakfast ourselves, it looked good when we passed the room in the morning. I would recommend this hotel as being good value for money for a couple - we just drew the short straw as a family.
Review 72:Staff were helpful and friendly and hotel was very comfortable with good breakfast, good rooms and very family friendly. The central location in the nice town was good.
Review 73:We were leaving early 0700 to get to Calais. We had declined the offer of breakfast and had assumed that because breakfast was from 0700 in the week there would be somebody on desk from 0700. We rang bell and waited about 15 minutes then left the key, assuming that as we had booked with the credit card then payment would be taken. Owner ended up running after us in the street, very angry -claiming we were trying to leave without paying!
Review 74:Good position on way to Calais from south of France. Good wifi, room was simple and clean and the price was good.
Review 75:Very comfortable, clean family run hotel. Made to feel welcome and very helpful staff. Good location in beautiful town. Good breakfast and nice rooms for all the family.
Review 76:Breakfast facilities a little disorganised. We asked for a cot for a 1 year old but it wasn't supplied although the room did have a small single bed.
Review 77:Access from the A16 Central location in the town Parking adjacent Bed very comfortable Staff really helpful particularly with regard to my lost wallet.
Review 78:Decor, lack maintenance and that the bathroom suite was not fixed to anything. Could have done so much better for the price.
Review 79:The meal in the fish restaurant nearby
Review 80:There is no mention of car parking, but in fact there is plenty of on street parking which is free and just a few yards from the hotel. There are several places to eat nearby.
Review 81:Breakfast is extra, they made a mistake in the booking (although they did find alternative rooms) and it does suffer from a bit of street noise. and the rooms are small and the Wifi is rubbish
Review 82:French budget hotels are generally well below English standards as they have never had to compete with likes of Premier Inn. But this hotel is OK it's in a small town near Calais and a good place to break the journey and the prices are reasonable.
Review 83:Missed the kettle!
Review 84:Owners have a sense of humour! Good English was very helpful. Situation was perfect -easy to wander around town and parking was easy. Lovely breakfast! Lots of info on various things available
Review 85:Hotel and rooms are a bit 'tired' and in need of some TLC, but fine for a short stay and reasonable value for money.
Review 86:Friendly reception on arrival and very helpful staff. Very good location for people passing through (we were on our way to Calais) and visitors to Abbeville alike. Good WiFi and free parking very close by.
Review 87:Would have liked tea/coffee availability in reception or room
Review 88:Enjoyed our stay - me and my 85 year old mum. Easy to walk into centre or into park. Hotel is dated but typically old style France. Room was clean and functional. Would have liked tea/coffee facilities in room or at least available downstairs. Owners helpful.
Review 89:We had a superior bedroom at the front of the hotel with double glazing, with no air-con, the room was stuffy so had to open the window. The hotel is next to a busy roundabout, noise was an issue. Over priced breakfast.
Review 90:Location good for the city.
Review 91:The shower room. The shower grouting was dirty and the wooden toilet seat was awful and needed to be renewed. We were told not to go for breakfast at 7am as there was a large cycling group in at that time. We arrived at 8am-ish and the breakfast room was full so we left without eating. There wasn't any air conditioning so it was an uncomfortable night and we were woken up at 6.30am by workmen outside the hotel.
Review 92:The proximity to centre of town
Review 93:No tea or coffee facilities, small bath towels. On road parking only and somewhat limited.
Review 94:Easy to find, close to town centre, friendly concierge.Very easy to check in.
Review 95:Great location. Friendly staff.
Review 96:Not really enough wall sockets for hairdryer etc
Review 97:Easy access to the shops and restaurants.
Review 98:Smell off cigaretts
Review 99:Hotel is in centre of town so you have easy access to shops and parking is close by. The owner is most welcoming and helpful.
Review 100:Within walking distance for sights, restaurants and grocery. Quiet. Good, basic, breakfast.
Review 101:Poor breakfast rationed out
Review 102:Nothing
Review 103:Location and breakfast
Review 104:The location of the hotel was excellent for the main road and the main street and restaurants. The owners were so friendly and helpful.
Review 105:Friendly staff. Very quiet yet still in a convenient location near the center of the town.
Review 106:i like the room, i had a good view of the street and the staff was welcoming
Review 107:The standard of the room and fittings
Review 108:The position
Review 109:Bathroom was incredibly small, no hotel parking, owner was too stretched doing too many things at once.
Review 110:Good location, good value.
Review 111:Traffic noise.
Review 112:Good location. Friendly staff. Price.
Review 113:Bed was a bit hard for my wife.
Review 114:Nice little hotel, surrounded by bars, cafes and restaurants. Parking, very close by, was free.
Review 115:no bad experiences
Review 116:The kind reception on a late arrival and for the rest of our stay
Review 117:Large room with 2 bathrooms.
Review 118:Bathroom needed revamp, toilet seat chipped shower sliding door ......
Review 119:very basic, dated room. noisy. very uncomfortable bed. 9 euro each for bread, croissant and coffee is not good value.
Review 120:Location
Review 121:Miserable reception, cramped rooms
Review 122:Ideal location close to town centre but easily accessible from motorway.
Review 123:Décor is very outdated.
Review 124:Well located. Nice staff who could speak English.
Review 125:The friendly helpful service we received.
Review 126:We had a quadruple room with 1 double and 2 singles. Ideal for our 1 night stopover.
