Reviews for Hotel El Castillo
Review 1:Nothing at all.
Review 2:The hotel was very close to the castle. We could get into the main places within a few minutes walk. The room was spacious and comfortable. They offered us a simple breakfast.
Review 3:There wasn't anything at all I didn't like. Its dated but perfectly acceptable.
Review 4:Absolutely the best location steps from the Templar Castle and right on the route of the Camino Di Santiago. Its a charming 5 minute walk past the castle to the happening centre of the old city. The staff were friendly and had reserved a parking space for our vehicle and as well took delivery of my bike. All the arrangements went smoothly. You can get an expresso for just 1 euro in the bar attached to the hotel.
Review 5:WiFi works for mobile devices only. The bed consists of 2 single beds and isn't double at all.
Review 6:The hotels is just near the major attraction of Ponferrada, the castle. By chance, we were lucky to park our car at small hotel parking at street - it's free.
Review 7:The staff was really unhelpful and not understanding at all. Because we booked parking through booking.com they said we cannot cancel that service anymore - there are plenty of free parking places on the street, but we had to pay to put in their garage, as they cannot modify the booking. Even if we had the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, in the morning we had several knocks, and only after we woke up and asked what is it, they went away. Breakfast was very poor, do not choose to have it at their location(in a dark bar), receiving only a small piece of bread and tomato paste, orange juice and a coffee. For that money you can have a great one in the city, enjoying the sun and a nicer view. They advertise they have jacuzzi in the bathroom but for using it you need to ask reception to activate it and it costs additional 11 euros.
Review 8:Location was ok, very close to the castle and the rest of attractions.
Review 9:Nothing to comment on.
Review 10:The AC was great! Stopped for a night while doing the Camino and it was a very enjoyable experience. Very quiet--had a great night's sleep.
Review 11:Breakfast a little basic but no worse than the cafés on route
Review 12:Used as a solo traveler starting Camino, staff were helpful for pointing me in the right direction and spoke good enough English, cathedral is close by to pick up the pilgrim passport.
Review 13:Clearly hadn't read requirement for wheelchair accessible room, had to move bedrooms later but facilities still not adequate for wheelchair user
Review 14:Good location for castle and old town
Review 15:With food on premises and nearby, a quiet room even on a main road, excellent location near castle and on the Camino, who could ask for more? The hot water, bathtub, and water pressure exceeded our expectations.
Review 16:Unfriendly and unprofessional reception; we were put in smoking room at first and never asked preference, then sent to occupied room- how embarrassing!
Review 17:Good location near castle and old part of city; meals at hotel were delicious and restaurant staff kind
Review 18:Perfect location a little over a block from The Way and the old city / castle in Ponferrada. Staff was outstanding and the facilities were clean and very comfortable. A bit pricier than other options for pilgrims, but still affordable and a great place to take a break from the alburgues, rest in comfort and privacy, and enjoy the city of Ponferrada.
Review 19:A sign in the cafe said breakfast was included, but we need up getting charged for it.
Review 20:Great location! Having a cafe for breakfast was very convienient.
Review 21:Breakfast was meagre
Review 22:Good location near to the castle, steeped in history. Undergroung parking for our motorbikes, great restaurant, staff very efficient.
Review 23:Restaurant - uninterested, rude staff - brought wrong order twice totally unapologetic. Food that was brought totally inedible - despite having cycled 130km without food to get there!(1 of worst plates of food in 30yrs of travelling). Road outside pretty noisy
Review 24:Hotel nice & clean. Receptionist friendly professional & good English. Happy to put bikes in secure garage.
Review 25:Nothing although the breakfast was nothing special.
Review 26:The hotel is perfectly situated just near the (magnificent) castle. The staff were welcoming and the secure garage was easy to access. Rooms were good & clean and well equipped.

Review 51:So cute and a very good location to the castle area.

Review 53:We stayed at this hotel as we started our camino in Ponferrada. It is very close to the camino and they are pilgrim-friendly. There is a restaurant downstairs for both dinner and breakfast (breakfast was included). This is a nice hotel for the price.
Review 54:Female staff on Sunday morning, poor breakfast, no atmosphere
Review 55:Breakfast was terrible, served in bar, toast which you would break your teeth on n very difficult to get tea, that's all was on offer, I went to my bedroom and brought down a banana, staff, girl the was on the Sunday morning was very rude, got locked in garage trying to get my bike out, no help at all, would not go here again
Review 56:The night we were there, there were 30 young men from a bicycle group and a young soccer team staying also. The dinning room staff(2) were overworked with getting food to the diners.
Review 57:The staff were very helpful
Review 58:Breakfast options were limited. Only toast.
Review 59:Great location right next to the castle and on the camino trail. Perfect for pilgrims. Wonderful bathroom. Clean and comfortable. Great tub.
Review 60:The staff were stand-offish and didn´t help much with information aboutthe city and sites. Laundry service was nice to have, but reallyexpensive.
Review 61:Easy to find. We rented a car so the hotel parking garage wasnice to have.
Review 62:The receptionist staff seemed not to have done a booking before, it took 20minutes! The room had been smoked in, we could not find our reserved parking, which we had paid for. Breakfast arrangements were very poor.
Review 63:The bathroom was clean and worked well.
Review 64:The conditioneer was working not hard enough - it was switching off occasionally. The price for the room was a bit too high
Review 65:Great location - right close to the castle and the old city
Review 66:The staff were very businesslike and efficient. The in hotel cafe was open all the time and the fare reasonable. Location was excellent for seeing the town and popular with those walking the camino de Santiago.
Review 67:Everything was great, nothing to complain.
Review 68:The best thing about the hotel is the location, only 100 mts from the Templarios Castle and right in the heart of the Casco historico (old town). The hotel's bar and restaurant serve cheap drinks and food. The room was spacious and clean. Even though the hotel is in the centre we could not hear any street noise. The wifi connection is good. Excellent value for money! The hotel doesn't have parking but it wasn't hard to find street parking nearby.
Review 69:This is an awful city - so much graffiti, and it is everywhere! I paid50 Euros for a rubbish hotel - on my journey I have paid the same sortof money for top class accommodation, and this place did not compare!Breakfast included was a joke - I got a coffee, orange juice and asingle croissant without any butter or jam to put on it! I also had towait 10 minutes for service as the 2 young ladies preferred to serveSpanish people before visitors, and it took a raised voice of complaintbefore I was acknowledged. Avoid this establishment!
Review 70:We chose to take breakfast in the hotel cafe but it was rather meagre. We shouold have found a cafe in town
Review 71:The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly. The hotel is ideally situated and the hotel garage is easily accesible.
Review 72:Don't bother with breakfast at the hotel, 1 small croissant no butter or jam, small glass of orange juice not worth the money. Go to one of the many other places that do breakfast.
Review 73:The room was comfortable, staff very friendly, good location for the castle and good secure parking for the motorbike. Would stay again.
Review 74:The hotel boasted that it had cafe open till midnight but at 10 pm on the day we were there choice available was restricted to say the least.
Review 75:Location and facilities in room.
Review 76:There were no dislikes
