Reviews for Hotel de France
Review 1:A lovely hotel in the centre of Bergerac, all the sights are within walking distance. The hotel is very peaceful with very comfortable rooms and the most fabulous staff who could not be more welcoming and helpful. It would be my pleasure to stay here again.
Review 2:Very friendly staff on reception.Informative and gave us a map with selected restaurants shown. The Market was huge and despite them setting up at 7 am we were pleased with the sound proofing.
Review 3:This is a charming old hotel. We liked the old character. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Location was close to everything. If you are here on a Saturday there is a fabulous street market in the morning.
Review 4:There is no parking space or even a waiting space outside the hotel, only two pay and display spaces. In the 10 mins it took to unload my bags, a very keen traffic warden had given me a parking ticket! Astonishing! Apparently they are renowned for it in the centre of Bergerac - be warned.
Review 5:Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 6:The lighting in our room was not very "reader friendly"
Review 7:The staff were exceptionally helpful and Natalie in particular steered us to two excellent restaurants.
Review 8:No safe. No fridge.Hard bed. Poor lighting. Pool area needs T.L.C. security issues...1.Management of room keys at front desk. 2.Room doors open whilst cleaners in and out.
Review 9:Reasonably quiet.
Review 10:We parked our car in the public car parking opposite the hotel. Unfortunately we had a bad attack from the local bird population which has resulted in some damage to the paintwork on our car. This is not the hotels fault but a pointer about this problem would have been helpful.
Review 11:good location
Review 12:Would have been nice to have tea & coffee facilites in the room.
Review 13:Excellent location within easy walking distance of everything. Even had a public carpark directly opposite, which although we did not use on this occassion would be good to know for any future visits.
Review 14:We booked parking which is at the side of the hotel & secure, but there is only room for 3 cars & we were asked to leave our keys incase someone needed to move. There is ample parking available in front of the hotel so would probably not book this again.
Review 15:The hotel is very well situated just a short walk from the centre of Bergerac. There is a small pool & seating area at the back of the hotel which was nice. The room although clean was quite basic & the shower could do with an upgrade, although this would not stop us staying again.
Review 16:No elevator Breakfast is very basic for €10 Got eaten alive by mosquitos by the pool Room is quite small for two people
Review 17:Very good location Staff were friendly and helpful The hotel itself is quite nice
Review 18:The area around the pool could do with a tidy up; the pool is pleasant (but the chlorine is seemingly a bit oily) but the sitting area could so easily be much improved.
Review 19:A great find for a visit to Bergerac; it's an easy stroll into the old town. Marvellous, friendly welcome and clean, comfortable hotel offering great value. Good buffet breakfast.
Review 20:Room rather small with infuriating lobby light that automatically came on and off in a few seconds later every time you moved between rooms with no master cut off switch.
Review 21:Spotless, easy location for Bergerac centre and old town
Review 22:Friendly staff. Convenient location immediately adjacent the main town. There is plenty of parking immediately in front of the hotel - but at quite periods.
Review 23:Not having a bar area to relax in at night
Review 24:Myself and my 15 year old daughter loves the quirkyness of the hotel and the staff were so helpful and friendly to us . The pool area was lovely not perfect but rustic and peaceful .
Review 25:Excellent location, especially for the Bastille Day Celebrations when we were there this year. Small friendly and comfortable hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. Would have liked tea and coffee facilities in the room though.
Review 26:There was no lift so awkward with a very large suitcase but help given to carry up the stairs.
Review 27:The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke some good english. The room was very clean and had a lovely view of the private swimming pool area. The breakfast was continental and fresh each day and a good choice especially of different tea's!
Review 28:no bar or and anywhere to relax. We also thought the room rate was 20 euros to high with no breakfast and no discount for staying 7 nights. Sometimes of an evening there was a lot of scooter noise.
Review 29:The present staff were good and location
Review 30:Garden could do with a bit of attention - but pool lovely.
Review 31:I love the friendliness of all the staff. Hotel is in an excellent location - right in the heart of Bergerac.
Review 32:Checked in on a Sunday where the hotel was closed between 11:00 am and 15:00 pm. The pool its self was very clean but the pool area was not clean it could do with sweeping.
Review 33:Hotel in a great location and the pool was nice to come back to after a day of sightseeing also the rooms at the back that over looked the pool were very quiet.
Review 34:The décor was slightly dated and you needed a new wifi code every day.
Review 35:It is a short walk from the old town and it also has an outdoor swimming pool. It was nice to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by Place Gambetta.
Review 36:The room was too small for two people to spend any time in - and in a small provincial town like this I might have hoped for a bigger space for the amount we paid. I got an email a couple of days before our arrival saying the hotel would be closed between 11 am 2.30pm, exactly the timeframe when we would be pitching up. This was rather inconvenient and we had to make other plans to store our luggage.
Review 37:The owners were friendly and the hotel has a pleasant atmosphere.
Review 38:Right on top of the old town and close to a good choice of restaurants, all within a few minutes walk. Helpful staff, clean and a small but nice pool. pool
Review 39:Parking is a problem. The main door is directly onto the street. You may be lucky and able to park directly outside, or you may not. Either way you will have to pay about 12€/day. Off street parking is available, but not on the 2 market days : Wed/Sat. Off street parking also costs about 12€/day.
Review 40:Good comfortable hotel and right in the centre of town.Everything you need and lovely helpful staff. The hotel is quite small, but has everything you need. The breakfast is self-service continental, basic but good quality.
Review 41:No English speaking channels on the TV (not even the basic news channels). Wifi worked sporadically. No bar or social atmosphere. No mini bar or water/kettle in the room.
Review 42:Cleanliness. Efficient staff. Realistically priced three star hotel
Review 43:Breakfast very mediocre and not worth 10 euro. Pool area not well kept/ dirty (pool itself looked clean) Fire alarm at 2 am with nobody from the hotel management on site. WIFI codes only for short period - have to keep re entering password and also needed new code after 2 days
Review 44:Good location, room OK and well soundproofed with door closed (very noisy when open or on balcony), air conditioning not too noisy.
Review 45:Taxi dropped us off at 13:00. Hotel doors closed. phoned the number provided for assistance. Eventually I got through to a gentleman. I was told that the Hotel would not be open until 15:00, so we could not even drop our bags off. I was also told that this information was on my booking form. Too late I noticed that indeed it did say...checking in from 15:00 to 20:30. So we had to hang about in a nearby café for two hours. Not very pleased. This information should be far more clear when making a booking. There is no access at all to the Hotel during these hours.
Review 46:Generally an excellent stop=over, helpful staff. We have stopped here before and would stay again. However, very irritated about not being able to gain access to drop our bags off.
Review 47:Room and double? bed far too small, I'm just 6' and my feet stuck out of the end of the bed.
Review 48:location. hotel nice but no British breakfast available
Review 49:The hotel is well located for everything and there was never a problem with parking. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room clean and comfortable. We could not have asked for more. We will return next year.
Review 50:No duvet. Just sheets and blankets. Personally I don't like sleeping with blankets and we didn't want to sleep with the heating on so without blankets it was chilly.
Review 51:Ideal location - near to relatives. Clean and friendly.
Review 52:Late check-in 3:00 p.m
Review 53:Hotel is 15 minutes from train station and beside old town It's simple but impossible to complain if consider price Cozy room with bathroom and WC separate
Review 54:Bed wasn't comfortable and noisy at front of hotel, wish I'd been told that couldn't get into hotel if arrive early
Review 55:Lovely helpful staff, good location
Review 56:As a non-smoker I was fed up to find my room smelt heavily of cigarette smoke, against the hotel's "no smoking" policy. When I complained, I was told that there was little the hotel could do if guests ignored that. Clearing up the ash would have been a start. The photo of the pool is temptingly seductive; the actuality is that, in October sunshine, it looked disappointingly tatty.
Review 57:On the edge of Bergerac's medieval centre, the hotel was very convenient for exploring the town. Parking was available, both in the street and the hotel's garage. Staff were helpful. My room, at the back, overlooking the pool, was quiet, the bed comfortable.
Review 58:taxi from airport to hotel...e13...good taxi from hotel to airport...e20 ??
Review 59:very good value for money. staff excellent. location excellent. room a little small.
Review 60:Manager when we arrived was fantastic. Couldn't do enough for us. Helped us throughout our stay. A comfortable hotel with value for money. Great location.
Review 61:The room was slightly on the small side.
Review 62:Hotel was within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 63:The pool was not heated and the area around the pool very overgrown and unkept, no satellite channels in English and no canal channels, the rooms are small and dated, there is a strange smell that lingers around the reception area, a musty smell, disappointed as it is not as described !! Bergerac is ok for a couple of days or as a base but once you've walked around the town and been on the river that's it !!! Thankfully we had a car, so we're able to get out and about. DON'T be fooled be the photo's we would not stay again.
Review 64:The owner was a nice enough chap but the hotel is starting to look dated
Review 65:We had no complaints with the Hotel or the Town. However the choice of food in the Town is limited and expensive. There is very little public transport and the trains to Bordeaux are expensive but more reasonable to Sarlat.
Review 66:In the centre of Bergerac ideal as a base for touring the surrounding area. We had nine days bed and breakfast. Excellent facilities and the staff and owner very helpful and accommodating. Would definitely stay again next year but will hire a car which is required for touring around.
Review 67:Very friendly and helpful owner and staff. Staff accommodated my wife's .gluten free food requirements. Great breakfast. Nice room. Staff took the time to give us suggestions re restaurants and things to do in the area. We plan to come back to Bergerac on our next trip.
Review 68:terrible beds - very uncomfortable shame it spoilt a very nice hotel.
Review 69:very convenient location near to centre of town. Nice swimming pool and very helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Review 70:Wifi in rooms. Perhaps bed sheets need replacing with cotton . . .
Review 71:+. Efficient reception, charming staff, location and aircon. Pleasant enclosed garden and pool. - The wifi "service" in the room drove me bonkers. Downstairs it was fine.
Review 72:The internet was faulty during our stay and we were not able to use it in our room which was annoying.
Review 73:Bergerac is very small compared to bordeaux which we had also visited. The hotel was in a good location and had everything we required for our short stay. It was clean and I liked the fact it only has 20 rooms.
Review 74:The hotel smelt dirty and it was. An inch of black filth beneath the toilet rim. The room was dated beyond belief and the springs popping through the mattress meant that there was little sleep to be had. If nothing else were available in Bergerac I would rather stay in a different town. Or a tent.
Review 75:The pool area was pleasant and the location was good
Review 76:Breakfast is a basic bufffet style for €10. It's fine but not great. The room is a bit basic and dark - but fine, not the best, not the worst.
Review 77:The location is right in the middle of Bergerac, walking distance to the historic centre. The staff are very helpful and friendly and it's clean, tidy and very presentable. The room was very clean and perfectly comfortable, just not terribly inspiring and a bit basic. Good air conditioning unit.
Review 78:This is a basic 3 star hotel. Rooms are oddly decorated eg ginger carpet and bright blue wall. Tired rooms need a good overhaul. Shower very small. Front rooms noisy especially when market days on Wednesday & Saturday. Fiddly having to top-up parking meter [2 hours max stay].
Review 79:OK location near market & old town. Bed comfortable Fortunately we moved to a room overlooking the garden, so quieter.
Review 80:The hotel is centrally located. The room was clean and spacious. We only stayed one night and didn't try the restaurant for dinner or breakfast so couldn't comment. However, the staff directed us to a superb restaurant for dinner.
Review 81:There wasn't a bar or lift and it took quite a while to check-in. However the hotel staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 82:The locatotion was close to the Notre Dame, restaurants, bars and shops. In addition, the penulitmate stage of the Tour de France started from the vicinity so there was a lively atmosphere around the square where many food and drink stalls had been temporarily erected along with a live band. and
Review 83:I did not like the rigid late check in time of 15:00, I arrived after 14:00 so it was very inconvenient to have to hang around before we could freshen up. It was explained to me that check out was 11:30 am so there was a later check in. However most people on their day of departure usually get up and head off after breakfast to get on with their travels, like I did at 08:15. I therefore did not believe there was not at least one room available when I arrived after 14:00. The wifi service was sufficient once logged on but it has a very annoying habit of having to logon again with the supplied user name & password if you had been out or had a device switched off.
Review 84:Very good location in the town. Quiet room at the back of the building. One member of staff was very pleasant, another a bit stern.
Review 85:Mattress too firm for us
Review 86:Good location for restaurants, cafes, shops, the beautiful Notre Dame church & from which to explore Bergerac. Excellent shower. Good that loo & shower room separate. Very good breakfast - much more than a croissant & coffee. Staff helpful. Great swimming pool.
Review 87:The beds were a little uncomfortable but OK for one night. The overall value for money compared to other similar hotels.
Review 88:Excellent location. Friendly staff. Quiet good value breakfast.
Review 89:Dragging ourselves away was difficult....
Review 90:The friendly staff / proprietor, lovely quiet room with view of the garden and pool, the secluded and beautiful garden / pool (heated), location just next to the old city and for my teen-aged daughter, the free WiFi.
Review 91:Parking very limited (3 spaces, in single file) absolutely essential to reserve.
Review 92:Friendly staff, good night's sleep. A stopover hotel for us, did the job. Bergerac is well worth a visit.
Review 93:No complaints.
Review 94:Modern and smart city hotel close to Bergerac centre. Room was comfortable and clean and the hotel has very nice décor. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Private garage for 3 cars but public parking opposite.
Review 95:No bar in the hotel.
Review 96:The location was excellent and our room had a balcony which was superb of an evening to sit and relax and people watch out in the square.
Review 97:Nothing, we liked it all.
Review 98:The hotel is in a good central location. We were very impressed by the man who was on reception when we checked in, and also the other man who helped us with the checkout. They were both very efficient, friendly and helpful.
Review 99:After a very long day's travel, owner/host greeted us warmly and made us feel at home immediately. He even shared part of his evening meal with us around the pool. Very friendly , room was clean and comfortable and breakfast filling. Parking opposite, and within walking distance of some great restaurants. Would stay again for sure.
Review 100:Very poor lighting, tiny room, patio door almost impossible to open from balcony.
Review 101:Central location
Review 102:Nothing bad
Review 103:Friendly and helpful
Review 104:Friendly staff comfortable room and situated in a very convenient position. I hope to come again next year. Thank you.
Review 105:Could be more described as bed and breakfast.reception closed after 9pm.
Review 106:Location good rooms small but clean.

Review 108:very central, outside space
Review 109:Good location in central location

Review 111:Wonderful central location and the staff were so helpful and pleasant.
Review 112:The bed was rather hard. Lack of lift presented problems.
Review 113:The welcome at reception
Review 114:Nothing, hotel was as expextations
Review 115:Location,
Review 116:The room and the hotel although comfortable were basic.
