Reviews for Ganivet

Review 1:Decent hike to get to Playa Major, Playa Sol and decent eating establishments in the center part of Madrid.

Review 2:Good value with breakfast buffet. Had a triple room that was clean and comfortable. Staff will hold your bags if you arrive early or leave late and want to stroll around the city. Room was quiet (no road/ pedestrian noise.)

Review 3:no bad expierence

Review 4:first time in madrid, hotel 5/10 minutes walk from plaza major, food and drink good, people of madrid very nice, would go back there again.

Review 5:We were in a twin room and I'm sure we asked for a double - I kept falling down the crack in the bed! The weather was no good so we didn't get the chance to use the pool. No Sky or BBC news. But overall pretty good hotel.

Review 6:The waiters/waitresses in the café/bar were nice.

Review 7:Bad coffee to breakfast, but is ok at the cafeteria with charge.

Review 8:This hotel is very well placed, short walking time to anyother downtown place and to all important touristic attractions. The metro station Puerta Toledo is at 2 min distance. The room is basic but confortable, they are offering free of charge water, the morning buffet is ok.

Review 9:Location was great! Right next to the metro which was very helpful going to and from the train station, I'm sure its great for getting around the city but we walked everywhere since everything is pretty close. There is a good bakery on the same street just north of the hotel which was great for breakfast, there is a small convenience store in the same direction. There was also a laundromat about 15 minutes NE. I asked for a quiet room and a double bed instead of two twins, they met my requests with no problems! I was also upgraded to a room with a balcony for no reason! I would stay here again.

Review 10:We had asked for a double bed when booking months in advance yet surprisingly none was available.Although the room was clean a couple of sheets were stained and had to be replaced.Breakfast was adequate with the exception of the awful fruit juice and the very limited and rather bad selection of coffee.

Review 11:Excellent location, close to both metro and buses. The la latina region is a few meters away. the stuff was helpfull and attentive. The room was spacious and the bathroom fully equiped

Review 12:The breakfast buffet was 10€ per person so we opted with the cheaper option of getting a breakfast sandwich from the cafeteria, however we felt that the money would have been better spent in a cafe nearby.

Review 13:This hotel is in a great location that made it easy to access the city by foot. Clean rooms and a comfy bed made for a comfortable stay!

Review 14:There is no tea or coffee making facility in the room.

Review 15:Location is great, 10 min walk to Plaza Mayor and another 5 mins to Palacio Real. The hotel is about 3 min walk to the metro station. If you need to go to Atocha Renfe, there is a c2 bus stop nearby. Breakfast selection is good. There is a safety deposit box in the room. Room is clean and of good size. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 16:Breakfast buffet is excellent. Location is excellent - about 10 minutes from major sightseeing locations and about 20 minutes for major shopping areas. Wifi was excellent

Review 17:nothing bad to say it was perfact

Review 18:it is situated in a great part of madrid only 10 min walk to plaza major and lots of bars and shops rite on your door step as well as the flee market only 2min walk away

Review 19:The hotel was clean and I would say abov standard for 3 star. It was central and the buffet meal was very good value. Our room was at the back with no view but as the traffic in Madrid is very fast and noisy it was quiet and peaceful.

Review 20:Cant say we had a bad experience but only downfall , hotel is quite awalk from puerto del sol, and of course no tea or coffee makingfacilities in room ...

Review 21:The hotel staff very helpful and very friendly, breakfast is also verygood, we ate dinner one night in the dining room and for 15euro 3 courseit we exceptionaly good

Review 22:I would've liked more healthy options at breakfast.

Review 23:Perfect location. I walked everywhere and didn't need to use the metro once. Very comfortable.

Review 24:I liked the breakfast. There was variety of food. It was good that there were drinks dispensers on each floor. The room was wide, clean and light with the window facing the calm street, that's why I could air my room every day.

Review 25:It was my first experience having the hotel offering instant coffee at the breakfasts, the strange solution for rather pretty hotel in general... since I am not sure for instance that I would choose it again.

Review 26:The hotel with rather large rooms with good and new furniture, mattreses, bathroom etc. It is located in 15 min walking from Plazza de Major... The breakfasts are buffet type and in general are rather saisfactory.

Review 27:The room lacks amenities for tea considering they don't offer room service on out of hours. The next door occupants are so noisy with kids jumping past midnight on two occasions and so our stay was unpleasant.

Review 28:The locatiob

Review 29:Would have been happier with a double bed

Review 30:This was our 2nd stay we really like this hotel as it is situated just a few minutes walk off centre and the hotel is good

Review 31:Very loud, could hear every body coming home at night on my floor. Booked a taxi via the hotel (they have someone on call, that they know) to go to the airport, it was the worst drive in my life, the driver was speeding at 140km/hour and suffering from tourettes, so he was doing everything else than focussing on driving. I threw up when we arrived in the airport due to fear of crashing!

Review 32:The staff were not customer friendly in some ways. When we checked in, they did not mention that the fare did not include breakfast nor did they mention that the hotel had airport shuttle service. Otherwise they were very efficient and gave a great recommendation for lunch.

Review 33:The location is perfect - just a short walk from all of the wonderful plazas.

Review 34:There are some issues with the sound proofing between rooms.

Review 35:Excellent location, near metro and walking distance from many of the main sights. Lots of local bars and restaurants. Very clean and good value. Staff were helpful.

Review 36:Rooftop Solarium not heated & hour of opening could be earlier,Breakfast restaurant is insufficiently staffed & no salad.

Review 37:Clean,friendly staff,good location & recently renovated

Review 38:Hotel is 10 mins from Plaza Mayor. Rooms were clean and spacious, comfortable beds (two sets of pillows!). The hotel bar is very good for breakfast, coffee or aperitive. The breakfast is OK. Wifi is good and easy to access free of charge. The hotel has its own underground parking. Staff is very friendly.

Review 39:It was nice that there were two different breakfast alternatives: the buffet for 10 euros, or the small cafeteria, which had nice a la carte choices for smaller appetites.

Review 40:A bit stingy with toiletries, which were not always replaced.

Review 41:Very friendly and helpful staff, room very quiet and comfortable, excellent location. Water coolers on landing very much appreciated. Excellent wi-fi signal. Good breakfast.

Review 42:I would like tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom. And maybe this is because I'm used to staying in Irish hotels where these are available.

Review 43:The place was spotless!

Review 44:Noisy - cleaners banging and shouting very early with no respect for anyones peace. Right next to the elevator going up and down all night. Double room had two single beds. Staff quite rude at times Unappealing location in the city - dirty & smelly streets

Review 45:One member of staff was helpful and organised me a taxi

Review 46:No kettle in the rooms, Bathroom ventillation to be reworked.

Review 47:Excellent Location, well within reach of Metro, bus lines & major POI's ,good WiFi connectivity, little menu options/spreads in the buffet breakfast but appetizing, friendly & co-operartive staff.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:The location was very good, the hotel and rooms were modern and clean. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, the bar staff were great. The breakfast was good value for money.

Review 50:good hotel in a nice part of the city, lovely cafés and little shops around. comfortable rooms and beds, enough space even in three-bed-rooms. we will recommend this hotel to friends.

Review 51:Very good value for money, comfortable room, good café/bar area. Reception staff friendly and amenable. Could do with tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. Our room (5th floor) had a large balcony.

Review 52:Location of this hotel is great - 15 minute walk to Plaza Mayor. 2 minute walk to Puerto de Toledo metro station. 15 minute walk to Atletico Madrid stadium! Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are a decent size. Price is reasonable.

Review 53:Although it is a city hotel, it was at a reasonable price. It was neat, quick and good check in and check out, with good info about the city. Although many people for breakfast function is perfect, quick clearing away and refilling the friendly staff

Review 54:Everything was fine but maybe a kettle/iron in room would be helpful but wasn't a major problem.

Review 55:Very clean and staff very kind and helpful. Pool was certainly big enough and a nice additional extra for a city break. Bed comfortable and was given a great room on the 5th floor with balcony.

Review 56:I was really happy when they were able to provide me with a disabled bathroom. I am a below knee amputee and it has been a struggle having to get in and out of baths.

Review 57:A great hotel in an excellent location. Handy for everything. Loads of bars and restaurants nearby and handy for the Metro. Staff all excellent. Can't fault it.

Review 58:The location of the hotel in very inconvenient for people who want to explore key attractions or shopping in Madrid. It's out of walking distance from city center and you must take subway to go to any where you want.

Review 59:The room rate is reasonable and the room is clean however the room size is pretty small for 2 person with big suitcase, which is quite common for visitors to Europe.

Review 60:A fantastic location in the very heart of bustling Madrid, The Plaza Major is only a few mins walk away as is the main shopping area, The staff on the reception were very efficient and spoke excellent English, The parking was very secure and easy to locate right at the side of the Hotel The room was very clean and well equiped We asked for a quiet room and it was quiet (amazingly so for Madrid on a busy Friday and Sat night !! ) The roof top pool area although small was a welcome bonus

Review 61:Was put in a twin room first and had to go back to reception to get a double room despite specifying when booking that we required a double room.

Review 62:The hotel was close to plaza mayor which was very convenient for restaurants and bars.

Review 63:When I came to pay my bill it was in Euro's, but when I paid for it on my credit card it was taken in sterling ! I wonder if Spanish people also have to pay in sterling.

Review 64:The location.

Review 65:lovely roof top plunge pool with amazing views. Helpful friendly staff, who were full of hints and tips about where to go and how to get there. great location 2 mins walk from the city tour bus which was great for getting around also 2 mins from the Metro station.

Review 66:A bit more room inside would have been nice

Review 67:Small, clean room. Comfortable bed with decent pillows. Seating area outside. Perfectly adequate but would have been nice to have a bigger room. Good value.

Review 68:Buffet breakfast was poor. Would have been nice to have a couple of English channels on the TV. Also would be good to have a fridge in the room.

Review 69:Pool was lovely. Balcony was huge and ideal to sit out on a warm evening. Cafeteria was sensibly priced and did a good light breakfast. Free wifi worked well. Hotel is very close to the Metro and one of the tourist bus stops

Review 70:My girlfriend thought the bed was a bit uncomfortable, but I slept well.

Review 71:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was good and the price excellent. The pool on the roof was a great bonus.

Review 72:could do with tea/coffee making facilities in room and fridge or ice available

Review 73:Close to metro and also main Latin area for tapas Lovely pool area on roof

Review 74:There was NOTHING to dislike! The room was nice but a little small for the 3 of us. (The bathroom was large.)

Review 75:We were grandparents traveling with our 14 year old grandson. We absolutely loved everything about this hotel. The location is fantastic and so are the people at the desk. They couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful! All day and evening there are free snacks available -enough for small lunches or breakfasts. This was a welcome and generous surprise.

Review 76:More lounges around the pool would be helpful and longer or 24 hour rooftop access would be great

Review 77:Free water on each floor was fantastic touch. Staff were really lovely and very helpful and local knowledge about places to go and where to catch cabs was a great asset to your hotel

Review 78:Was a little further to walk to Placa Major than I'd wished because temporarily using crutches for an injury but having it's own car park outweighed that and actually it's pretty close to all the sites if you're not on crutches!

Review 79:Room with balcony - own underground car park - roof with small pool although we didn't use as only one night stay - easy check in and out - staff friendly - good choice buffet breakfast included in the price - clean and comfortable.

Review 80:They over advertised the pool. I reserved this hotel for the pool as it was hottest summer in Spain in the history but I was so disappointed and felt like I was played by their exaggerated advert about the pool. It was a bit bigger than jacuzzi and the most smallest "swimming pool" (as they call it) I've ever seen.

Review 81:The location is not right heart of the turistic area but still okay to be near La Latina where there are lots of restaurants and bars are. Very clean and simple room.

Review 82:when making the booking breakfast was to be included however it somehow got missed out. Not sure how this happened? However the breakfast in the cafe/bar wasn't bad and less expensive than the restaurant The pool on the roof was small and a bit of a gimmick however it was nice to relax on the roof in the shade.

Review 83:staff were friendly and helpful. Very close to the Metro and 20 minutes walk from the centre (Plaza Mayor)

Review 84:there was no kettle for coffee or tea, and no refrigerator. The bathroom door was a bit damaged and didn't close properly, which was no problem for us. The pool area could've open longer in summer, would be nice to watch a sunset there.

Review 85:The staff made everything easy and were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable.

Review 86:The rooms are poorly insulated for noise, it is noisy if there is movement outside in the halls or in adjoining rooms. The beds are quite hard, more than orthopaedic I would suggest but sufficient to not be 'uncomfortable'

Review 87:The location is superb, short walk to the centre (Mayor Plaza), the hotel is spotless and the staff are excellent and friendly. The pool on the roof terrace is very nice (albeit small) but the roof top views and the layout is lovely.

Review 88:Beds were very hard. Pool only open 11am to 9pm. Pool area very crowded. You are not allowed to bring drinks to the rooftop, it's sad to not be able to sit in the evening with a glas of wine and look at the view. The street outside is very dirty, and this part of town is kind of a getto. Although the hotel is great, you should know is not pretty outside the doors... We did not get one bed, but two beds that separated from each other, even though we asked specifically for this. To many kids at the hotel and the pool.

Review 89:Very clean hotel, great standard. Nice and helpful staff, security guard at the entrance at all time. Rooms was properly cleaned every day. Good location, near city. Great breakfast with lots of different options. It's easy to get to the airport from here, it's a 20 min drive.

Review 90:No fridges in hotels in Europe? Slightly small for 3 people in one room

Review 91:Excellent assistance with booking shows/taxis etc Proximity to metros and busses

Review 92:Hotel is centrally located, staff is very helpful, and while the hotel is not at all luxurious, it is very comfortable and has got everything a traveller needs

Review 93:Although the room was air conditioned, the AC system would automatically turn off at various intervals. We would sometimes awaken to it in the "off" position while taking a day-time nap, and it consistently turns off when you leave the room, having you return to a HOT room. Note: the weather during our stay was between 95-102 degrees F during the daytime (staying in the upper 90's until about 10PM), so this was really not an acceptable practice on the part of the hotel. Additionally, to make matters worse, the AC was hard-programmed to not go below 24C... folks, that's about 76F.... 76F is great during the day time on a hot 100F day outside, but at night, I need 70-72F, and their thermostat was literally hard-coded not to allow this.... thus, at night, the A/C felt tepid, humid, and not nearly cold enough, even when it was on its coldest allowable setting. Unacceptable.

Review 94:The hotel is located in a great location near the central historic part of Madrid. Although it is a "3 star" property, I would equate it in most regards to a 3.5 in the U.S., which is the rating that, for instance, a Holiday Inn Express might receive. This hotel is nicer than that, but simply has less space.

Review 95:I get some people point that breakfast foods can look a little underdone, but there was a good choice. No complaints really.

Review 96:Good location, near metro but 15 mins walk to heart of city and worth exploring local area. Good staff, friendly, good bar with staff. Breakfast was wide choice, i had large double room and good size bathroom with bath. Rear facing so no view but front view is road anyway. Good aircon, rooms kept clean, even water machine on each floor, great when hot. Overall i would stay here again.

Review 97:Everything was great.

Review 98:I liked the breakfast it was soooo good. The staff was really helpful. My airline lost my bag and the hotel staff was good about keeping it for me.

Review 99:Loved the rooftop pool and views. Room perfectly nice and wifi good. Liked the water coolers on each floor- thoughtful touch. V close to everything and a lovely little restaurant 2 mins away- la cabra en El tejado.

Review 100:My sister and I stayed in room 424, facing a very quiet interior pateo. As the room was the first after the lifts, we could listen to "very happy" clients coming in or going out. So: ask for a room far from the lifts. Also, as walls are made of carton, keep your fingers crossed for silent neighbours. Make sure to bring earplugs, just in case. Air conditioning is noisy, only allows for 3 temperatures (21, 22 and 23°) and its fan needs cleaning. Finally, while we asked for two individual beds, we got two individual beds (alright) connected together, with different bed linen - not good enough.

Review 101:Hotel is near La Latina/ Puerta de Toledo subway. If you head up the street (called de Toledo) you can find great cafes for breakfast, I recommend "Eduardo" for a truly Spanish feeling.

Review 102:The mattress on the bed was uncomfortable.

Review 103:The location was great, near the palace, plaza major etc. the staff were very helpful and took time to try and help us contact the train station about a lost phone.

Review 104:There real wasn't anything to dislike. It was a very pleasant and wonderful stay. I was there for three nights and it was just terrific!

Review 105:the staff was very pleasant. "Location, Location, Location"!! The comfort of the room and fantastic air conditioning (the best I've experienced in Europe) made the room very comfortable in the Madrid heat

Review 106:The room was quite small, and the jacuzzi pool was pretty cold!

Review 107:The location was good, easy enough to get to from the train station, and in a beautiful old town part of Madrid. Bed was comfy and the water cooler outside our room was handy.

Review 108:Hallway noise was very noticeable in the room.

Review 109:The hotel lobby is bright and modern-looking. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet included typical continental breakfast items as well as "American" breakfast items. Easy access to two Green Line Metro stations.

Review 110:Asked the receptionist to book restaurant table at a special place, but booking did not get to restaurant for some reason - not sure who's fault as he definitely rang correct place, with correct time.

Review 111:Nice bar area, friendly staff, very good facilities

Review 112:There is a club nearby they start partying at about 11.30 till 6.30 on Friday and Saturday nights. They are not drunk just very noisy. Take earplugs.

Review 113:The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Plaza Mayor. The Metro is a few minutes away and will take you to other areas. I found getting around the city was easy from this location.

Review 114:Breakfast food too greasy, frequently cold when it should have been hot, little variation, bacon practically raw, coffee cups often dirty but put on shelf as clean.a

Review 115:Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and friendly.

Review 116:The breakfast buffet seems to be more about quantity than quality. It's good that there is quite a lot of choice, but to be honest, the coffee, "juice" and bread rolls could be better.

Review 117:In hotel Ganivet you get good value for money - it's a nice, clean and centrally located hotel, with big beds, a nice shower and perfectly working wifi. The metro station is very close by. Basically, it is everything you need when you visit Madrid for a city or business trip.

Review 118:- Rooms are quite noisy: you can hear the tiolets flush/showering in the room above, people chatting in the corridor and traffic outside. - Cleaning staff does not knock when entering the room while they should be able to see that you are in your room...

Review 119:+Perfect located: 5 min walk to the city center. + Good breakfast + Clean rooms

Review 120:The water in the shower changed temperature ( hot to cool ) regularly without notice!

Review 121:The hotel staff were very polite and the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent.

Review 122:No English TV channels in our room, and despite a 'strong' Internet signal processing emails was difficult.

Review 123:The cafe was a very welcome addition. The evening buffet was very convenient and good value.

Review 124:The photo showed a balcony so I just assumed I would get one and had also put it in the comments box when booking. I had to pay an extra €100 for 4 nights when I arrived to get one. This worked out at €112 euros per night which I think is a bit on the expensive side for this hotel.

Review 125:Great location and very clean

Review 126:Everything was O.K.

Review 127:The hotel is within walking distance of the centre and the breakfast was very good. Some people may find the situation noisy - ask for a upper floor room.Room was adequate as a base.Reception staff were polite and helpful.

Review 128:At breakfast misunderstanding about payment. I gave 20 only got change of 10. Was made feel like we did something wrong

Review 129:Location was fantastic for us. Heart of Latin quarter

Review 130:The area was not close to fine dining restaurants. Restaurants within walking distance were mostly lower end cervecerias. Good for one night out but not every night.

Review 131:It was close to many sights.

Review 132:There is no mini bar in the rooms. But out side of the rooms on the corridor there is free cold water dispenser.

Review 133:Very close to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. 1 km walking distance only. Perfect breakfast. The café-bar of the hotel is a real plus. Very good service and pricing. Large and clean rooms, efficient and free wi-fi connection..
