Reviews for Francisco I

Review 1:good value for money, location, room is very modern and nice. I did not expect such a great service and facilities from 2* hotel, so it exceeded the expectations. Definitely would come back for my next visit and recommend it.

Review 2:There is some building work but very little disruption.

Review 3:Incredible value for money, large room with seating area. Brand new furnishings, great location.

Review 4:The hotel has a perfect location, close to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. And the night staff was super friendly! A really nice place for little money.

Review 5:We had a triple room in which the bathroom was closed by glass, no walls! So it was extremly unpleasant!! No privacy at all!!

Review 6:The location is good, staff is friendly

Review 7:I didn't like how I was forced to pay the first night by credit card, even though I told I'd rather pay it by cash. Other than that, a pretty pleasant stay.

Review 8:Great location, near every major Madrid sightseeing spot. Though I don't remember using much of the subway station because I did a lot of walking since things were so close, I recall being satisfied with the distance between the hotel and the nearest station.

Review 9:The Staff and structure of the hotel is amazing. The location is right in heart of Madrid. Room was cleaned all day and that is so important to me. A nice and clean room everyday.

Review 10:Noise at night was aweful. Not suitable for a family with young kids. This is in the middle of Arnel area and the party goes on till early morning hours!

Review 11:We had room 403 which faces the church, it was fairly small but very smart, and comfortable. Staff were very helpful, breakfast more than adequate. Location was superb. No problem with noise from the street (if the window is kept closed). Bars, coffee shops and restaurant all very close by

Review 12:Staff was very attentive. I had few problems to sort out when I arrived to the hotel and the receptionist was more than kind and helpful. Incredibly clean and spacious room. Excellent value for money

Review 13:Internet wasn't too great and the room was a bit too warm during the night (the air conditioning was actually locked as a heater).

Review 14:You simply can't get a better location in Madrid. It is just perfect.

Review 15:Very clean and modern. For the price, it was an incredible value. I would've expected to have paid double at least for the quality of room and location that I received.

Review 16:May be a bit loud outside on the street late at night for light sleepers as Calle Arenal is a main pedestrian street. Shower a bit small, even for European standards, but overall zero complaints from me.

Review 17:Room 405 ( I think it was) excellent corner room with great city views. Room lighting was fantastic. 2 min walk to Puerta del Sol. Would definitely stay again.

Review 18:The weird running water sound when, I suspect, a guest in the room above is using the facilities - it is like they are in your room! Don't let it out you off booking though. Once you are aware of it you get used to it.

Review 19:The hotel is really close to Puerto de Sol which makes getting anywhere very easy. Also easy walk to Plaza Major and Plaza Isabell II and also right around the corner from the best chocolatier San Gines! Hotel was very nice and modern and staff friendly and helpful. Great wi-fi too. Even though it is on a busy pedestrian mall with the door shut you could not hear a thing.

Review 20:Ladies, you might want to pack your own hairdryer as the one in the room we stayed in (113), didn't even move my hair!!! Be warned, it is in a very busy pedestrianised street that doesn't sleep so your sleep may be disturbed! I personally loved all the hustle & bustle but be warned!

Review 21:The Hotel is in a fantastic location on a really busy street with great restaurants, bars, shops and sites really nearby.

Review 22:No lift from ground floor to 1st floor, but there was a person available to help me with the luggage, thank you!

Review 23:Location of the place is great! 2 star qualification is not enough for this hotel, should be at least 3!

Review 24:The elevators start at a sort of half floor, so you have to climb some (few) steps to get to them. The staff will help you by carrying your bags though, so not a big deal.

Review 25:Excellent location between Opera and Puerta del Sol, view of Arenal Street with a window that isolated noise pretty well, helpful staff, nice room & equipment (safe, mini-fridge, tv). VERY fast wifi.

Review 26:Our room didn't have a window.

Review 27:Modern, spacious rooms. Comfortable bed, had an amazing sleep. fantastic location. Friendly, helpful staff. Porter was 1st class.

Review 28:The room was noisy (from early morning until about 5am!) and as it overlooked the street and was on the first floor it was not possible to raise the blind for most of the time we were in the room. We did ask to be moved to another room but it wasn't possible.

Review 29:The location is excellent. The room was large and spacious with a well appointed bathroom. The staff were very nice.

Review 30:Very noisy plumbing. Noisy street. Some aspects of reception. Lack of lobby area.

Review 31:Cleanliness, breakfast, location. Superb cleaning staff. Some reception staff.

Review 32:Street outside is noisy 24 /7, but just close the shutters and it deadens it. It's an incredibly vibrant city so noise is to expected. No real complaints.

Review 33:Location is perfect, right in the heart of things. 24hour reception is super convenient. The place is perfectly clean and tidy.

Review 34:My stay at the Hotel Francisco I was great! The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, comfortable and well-appointed and the overall facility was modern and new. I would highly recommend this hotel to solo travelers, couples or families with teens.

Review 35:really sulky unfriendly staff on reception on my arrival. If I hadn't arrived late in evening I would have gone elsewhere. Noisy late into night

Review 36:Great central location Room spotlessly clean

Review 37:Nothing - if one is looking for small things that are not perfect: Pedestrian zone somewhat noisy (also at night) on weekends; we found the mattress a bit too hard; the quality of the breakfast products is not high-end - but given the price for breakfast and the rating of the hotel we felt that the breakfast is a good buy and that everyone should be able to find something enjoyable on the buffet.

Review 38:very central location in pedestrian zone close to Opera, very friendly and helpful personnel (the best we had in many trips to Madrid!); nice decoration of room and bathroom with large shower, magnifying mirror and beauty products - unexpectedly good for a hotel of this class; a perfectly functioning fast WLan with strong signal; good breakfast selection - we will come back!

Review 39:The central heat is not very good and the area is noisy but no big deal

Review 40:Wonderful room in a very good location Area is little bit noisy but is center so it's ok Staff very polite The breakfast is nice And the room is big and comfortable

Review 41:When they have buildings workers starting at 8 PM and finish 18:30 AM and don't inform about it it's bad service. Breakfast was the same every morning. In Madrid there are so much good food so why serve the same boring breakfast every day.

Review 42:Location is very good

Review 43:Only thing which would make it even better would be hot drink making facilities in the room , but I wouldn't hesitate in returning to , or recommending this hotel !

Review 44:Great location , friendly , helpful staff in a lovely boutique hotel .

Review 45:Noisy at night as in the middle of the night life but was ok with earplugs in

Review 46:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location and very modern stylish rooms

Review 47:We booked 2 rooms for 4 nights, but for Saturday and Sunday the hotel rebooked us to a family room with 4 beds. They told us due to maintenance work no rooms were available. Anyhow the hotel was fully booked, so obviously they told us a story... From Monday till Wednesday we got 2 rooms...

Review 48:Very nice location. Good breakfast. Nice rooms.

Review 49:Very nice smallish hotel in a great location! (Mercado San Miguel just 2 blocks away, is a very fun place to go for tapas etc. from many vendors). Modern rooms, good size bathrooms, very clean, terrific staff. Would definitely stay here again. And they have an elevator, but keep in mind you have to go up several steps from the lobby to access the elevator.

Review 50:Last Two day was rained couldn't stroll with eyes open.love

Review 51:Location close to all City Landmake with walking distance and many Resturants and Tapas bar ,

Review 52:Room very hot. Poor view (the inner walls would benefit from a pretty mural) appreciate building is in progress. No tea/coffee facilities in room. No bar or restaurant and breakfast not competitively priced.

Review 53:Excellent location good choice of restaurants minutes from hotel. Short walk to 2 metro stations. Close to many attractions. Beautiful modern decor throughout love the mirrors! Helpful polite staff. Spotlessly clean. Fantastic bathroom especially rainfall shower! Wifi superb.

Review 54:Before my visit I had e-mailed hotel to ask for directions for when I got off bus from airport, the e-mail sent back was not helpful and very short, so another hotel in city helped me to find that one.

Review 55:Hotel was close to Peurta de Sol, so as solo traveller, it felt safe to get to , no back streets etc.

Review 56:No windows in my room - only a window in teh bathroom onto the interior light well, in which construction debris was piled. When I returned to the hotel at 1 am, there was no one at the desk and i had to wait 10 minutes to get my key so i could go to bed!

Review 57:lovely big room (the handicapped room, apparently). Great location

Review 58:Upon arrival we would have liked a plan to the nearest fire escape please. A few arrows on the walls to the location of lifts and dining rooms would help newly arrived guests. A lounge area would have been good to meet up with the rest of our group of 20. (Maybe part of the dining-room)

Review 59:Convenient location. Lovely room. Helpful staff

Review 60:Flamingo show recommended by hotel over priced for the meal u get. just go for the show

Review 61:Good location should be higher than a two star. Right price location there is nothing to complain about

Review 62:Only thing is, if you are a little self-conscious you might find the glass partitioned bathrooms a little scary!

Review 63:Very central, very friendly staff and the upgrade to Superior rooms is the bargain of the century with a bottle of wine/ cava each night and snacks included.

Review 64:Noisy construction till 5:00 pm and started again at 7:55am, But we figure they were enhancing the property.

Review 65:Liked the modernness and the area. Enjoyed the stay, price was excellent with Booking.com

Review 66:The rooms might have been refurbished recently but nothing has been done about noise transmission from adjacent rooms. The dividing walls are very thin and you can hear everything from the next room - especially from the bathroom! If you are unlucky enough to stay in room 516 then hope and pray that the occupant in 515 is a Trappist monk who never uses the bathroom. Also the room's smoke detector was disabled through being covered in decorator's tape - this is borderline criminal. I travel widely and have booked dozens of hotels through booking.com. This hotel is by some distance the very worse hotel I have stayed in.

Review 67:Location central and close to Metro. Leaving and never having to go back.

Review 68:The hotel has no ground floor lobby and no ground floor elevator. Luggage needs to be carried up to the 2nd floor where the elevators are located; they have staff to do this but it is awkward.

Review 69:Our room was spacious and quiet at night, the bed comfortable, our narrow balcony provided fresh air and a good overview of the busy streets below. Nicely situated to explore city, close to metro and buses. The breakfast was generous. The woman who staffs the breakfast room is the only one we encountered on a 7 week trip who was constantly cleaning the breakfast buffet area after each visitor touched things. I was impressed as everyone was coughing but she made sure none of us was picking up any colds.

Review 70:Liked everything

Review 71:like everything. Could not fault anything perfect location perfect for a solo traveller .staff very helpful. Breakfast great. Rate fantastic.

Review 72:That the elevator is not on the ground flor

Review 73:I just like everything about this hotel, the location, the employees, the service , I will definitely recommend it to other people.

Review 74:none - thoroughly recommend stay

Review 75:location - central in old Madrid - superb for sights and city night life all staff spoke and were friendly very clean

Review 76:Fantastic hotel with a great location. Upgrade to a Superior room and you get surprises in your room every day! Couldn't have asked for more from a 5*.

Review 77:We picked the hotel for the location, which is excellent. We reserved a superior room. It was superior. It was very modern, clean, well organized. It had excellent Wifi. It is noisy and we had to use the shutters to block the noise and unfortunately the sun too.

Review 78:The room was very comfortable and clean. Even though I had a corner room overlooking a very noisy street it was super quiet, due to the thick walls and window coverings.

Review 79:They will charge(not authorize, charge) the card on file prior to arrival, and they will do it in the card's native currency without your authorization. So you get a terrible exchange rate and no recourse. They have just renovated, there is no longer a self service laundry. Front desk staff was rude. Location is on a pedestrian street, so sometimes you cannot take a taxi directly there(troublesome if you have luggage).

Review 80:room is clean, location is central, but not always taxi accessible. If you are there on the weekend, ask for a non street facing room, TONS of foot traffic outside.

Review 81:No coffee in the room. Wish had more than limited breakfast service for foid, but so many restaurants are close it was not a big issue.

Review 82:Great location and excellent staff! Felt very comfortable at hotel and thus was first time in Madrid.

Review 83:We had a first floor room and it was quite noisy outside on the main street until at least 3am. I expect that the higher floors would not have as much noise

Review 84:The location was fantastic and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast offered for the price is really good value and I would definitely stay here again

Review 85:The evening snacks , the ambience, the location, the comfort, the friendly staff, all top rated. Even the breakfast was so much better than so many bigger hotels. Really enjoyed my stay. Cheers

Review 86:You can hear and feel the metro passing underneath. Breakfast place is too close to the guests room and this produces a lot of noise early in the morning

Review 87:friendly staff good location

Review 88:On our third night we had the misfortune of not sleeping well, which is fine when you can sleep in on your vacation. Or so we thought, from 0800 until 1400 they had jackhammering and other loud construction sounds going on next door, it was loud and horrible! No one apologized or warned us, it was very disappointing when the plan is to sleep in.

Review 89:The location is what makes this location ideal. The rooms were fine, nothing above or below average.

Review 90:There's no lift in the lobby--starts on the first floor. When we arrived a staff member took all her luggage to our room. When we checked out at early in the morning no one helped us even after asking for assistance. Also, we left early one morning to take the train to Segovia. The front door was locked. The staff member came to unlock the door and asked for our room key back. He thought we were "ladies of the night". There's a definite difference in the quality of service and staff members between the day and night shift.

Review 91:Hotel is located in the square close to restaurants, museums, shopping, etc. The room had all the necessities and the beds were comfortable. A great value for the money.

Review 92:Minor complaints only. The air con was on so the room was a bit chilly perhaps in mid-October it should have been switched to heating Our room faced the street and the balcony doors did not fit well. this did not help the chilly room, but also let in the noise from the street which continued on and off until 4.00am with revellers going home from nearby bars.

Review 93:Great central location with friendly, helpful staff and extremely clean throughout. Large stylish bedroom with modern shower room.

Review 94:The noise from outside was terrible. We felt we were in the middle of Times Square 24 hours per day. There was no way to sleep in such an environment

Review 95:modern appeal

Review 96:The two orange lights that were on in the room all night. Also, the bathroom is not private. Only a wall and everything can be heard.

Review 97:The location was wonderful and the desk staff very helpful.

Review 98:central location, pretty interior, spacious room and bathroom, heavy windows that when fully closed shut out the inevitable noise from the street, quietly efficient staff

Review 99:Location was perfect, less than 100 metres from Opera Metro Station, short walk to Puerto del Sol & Sol Metro, even shorter walk to Plaza Mayor & the wonderful Mercado de San Miguel market. Ideal base to walk to such areas as Centro, El Rastro, La Latina, Lavapies. We even walked as far as Piramides and along the canal. Also very close to the Palacio Real & Catedral de la Almudena

Review 100:My only complaint would be that is always good to have TV with some English channels even if only the news. No ice making machine in hotel when it is very hot.

Review 101:Warm welcome on arrival with drink. Very helpful staff and efficient. The room was good with a view onto the street as requested.

Review 102:The ease to get around with the Opera metro and lots of places of interest close by. Lovely area to stay in. 12 of the group decided to return to the airport using the Metro. We are all pensioners..

Review 103:Good hotel in the very heart of Madrid. You have everything outside your door. 3 different metro stations within 2-400 ms. Friendly staff, fine large rooms

Review 104:The internet was a bit slow and there are glass doors to the bathroom (in case you travel with friends and you have privacy concerns).

Review 105:This is definitely not a 2 star hotel, it looks like a 4 star. The design and furniture are new and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and clean. We enjoyed our room with a balcony that looked directly on Calle Arenal. Will definitely stay at this hotel when we return to Madrid.

Review 106:There was no iron available to guests, I think that this is a simple request made often on behalf of travellers The hotel was affected by street noicr

Review 107:Nicely refurbished hotel Comfortable room

Review 108:The location and the overall feel of the hotel was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Almost all places of interest are within a short distance of this hotel.

Review 109:small room small wardrobe very tight space had to put suitcase on floor, no lift and no help with the cases so struggled up the stairs, wouldn't go back.

Review 110:It is modern

Review 111:Card had already been charged on our arrival this is very unlikeSpain. Breakfast, we were given three different prices so didn'tbother in the end.

Review 112:Great location for site seeing

Review 113:Slight problem getting used to the orange lights in the bedroom which we assumed were some sort of fire/security light which remained on 24 hours. Made it difficult to sleep on first night but we got used to them.

Review 114:Reception staff very helpful. Reception area very pleasant. Within walking area of main attractions.

Review 115:Minor complaint - no iron and ironing board available for guests. Shirts ironed by the chamber maid very quickly, but at a small cost.

Review 116:Great location, friendly staff. Quirky central Madrid hotel, nicely decorated and clean throughout. Sound proofing was really good, bearing in mind it is in Arenal one of the noisiest pedestrianised streets. Great value for money, definitely use it again. I do not know how the star rating system works, but the two stars does not give it justice.

Review 117:Avoid room 110 and all on that floor as those rooms are on the way to the lift and restaurant. Extremely noisy. I did draw this to staff attention and they did offer to move us. We were only staying 2 nights so didn't bother moving. I would stay there again but on upper floors.

Review 118:Location

Review 119:The wifi was very unreliable (dropped off several times per minute).

Review 120:Good location, great price. Room was comfortable although air conditioning came and went a bit. Lots of freebies including wine in room every evening.

Review 121:The location is at walking distance from several major landmarks in Madrid; not to mention a 1-2 minute walk from Puerta del Sol, and 4-5 minute walk form Plaza Mayor. The balcony doors are great at shutting out the noise from the streets. The pedestrian streets around the hotel are lined with nice little coffee shops and boutiques that can keep one wandering around all day.

Review 122:bed was big but mattress a bit hard

Review 123:Great Hotel Right in the centre of madrid. Plenty of restaurants and the shopping district a 3 min walk. Had a nice room big bed, nice shower and the room was kept very clean by the cleaners. man on the reception also helped print my boarding passes for my next flight :)

Review 124:It wasn't disabled friendly. You could only access the lift after 3 flights of stairs.

Review 125:Clean, comfortable, always welcoming and situated in a great location.

Review 126:I would have liked a real double bed not 2 singles pushed together which is what we got in Spain. And tea-making facilities, not just a coffee dispenser.

Review 127:Great location, excellent helpful staff, no complaints really.Spotless. Madrid's amazing street life begins just outside the door but it'squiet inside. We returned for an extra night it was so suitable.

Review 128:Lift at 1st floor, not at the lobby. Guests have to carry the luggages to the first floor in order to take the lift.

Review 129:Good location accessible to most of the tourist spots in the town center

Review 130:Nothing

Review 131:The hotel is located in the heart of the city where everything is a walking distance from you and the rooms are still not noisy. Staff is very nice and helpful
