Reviews for Hostel Kerjalon

Review 1:Travelled in late September and had an entire 6-bedroom dorm to myself so it was definitely good value. Was able to use a computer at the neighbouring hotel to print my boarding passes. From the town or red (free) bus stop, it's a bit of a hike up an unlit path through fields/trees so advisable to take an airport shuttle rather than the blue (pay) bus if arriving in the dark. The information desk at the airport sells a multi-day bus/ferry pass that will get you almost anywhere in the Faroes.

Review 2:Although the view of the city is great, it is a 30 minute walk up a hill from the city center. There are taxis that are willing to take you there, but as you can imagine they are not that cheap.

Review 3:The hostel offers the best value for money in Torshavn. Although there is no breakfast included, you have a fully-fitted kitchen at your disposal. The rooms and hostel in general was very clean. You have a 24 hour reception, due to the fact that it is found in the nearby 4 star hotel.

Review 4:Bare bones and rooms are too small for the amount of people in them. Zero sound insulation, i could hear the guy next door snoring throught the wall which compounded the woman snoring in the room i was in. Miles away from town with no option but getting a twenty dollar cab to and from the hotel. It is over half an hour walk into town even with the short cut trail from the carpark. Please advise this is a requirement, hostels are for people on a budget, having to spend close to $40 dollars on cabs just to get to and from the bus stop is something budget travellers need to be aware of. The buses in town are almost non existant and the closest one to the hotel is still a 10 plus minute walk uphill on an unpaved gravel path... with 15kgs of luggage??? Everything was kept very clean and the ponies next door are cute.

Review 5:WiFi is unstable. When there is a large group, it can be noisy obviously...

Review 6:The cheapest in the island, clean rooms, friendly staff at the hotel reception. The view is beautiful. And the breakfast is worth its price with a nice buffet including salmon and lamb... You can even have the room for your own if there are not many people.

Review 7:Unbelievably noisy. No sound insulation over two floors, one could heareverything between walls of next door rooms, as well as footfalls andnoisy door locks opening and closing, together with doors banging alongcorridors. Beware rooms 3 &4 on the ground floor and 11 & 13 onthe first which have communal toilets built into their corners and noisyextractor fans constantly hum when light is left on in the toilet or thetoilet is in use. Absolutely no chance of a quite nights sleep. Wouldnever stay here again because of this, but then one feels this hostel isrelying on transitory visitors who would not be coming again anyway.

Review 8:Clean interior. A basic Scandinavia hostel, which usually have highstandards, but here basic is the key word. Breakfast at next door hotel, although 110 dkk extra, is very very good, far higher standard than theusual Scandinavia breakfast board and the dining room settingspectacular, with a view down on the whole of Torshavn. Exact samebreakfast which hotel guests have and with whom one has breakfast, nodistinction made. Really would recommend both breakfast and its setting.Hotel staff themselves very friendly and professional.

Review 9:Two things to note:- approx. 25 mins. walk to the town centre, STEEP AND WINDY all the time! no bus-service at night - take an airport-taxi at the airport directly, it's the same price as when taking the bus to the bus terminal and then paying a taxi up to the hostel!! (I had no idea and was quite disappointed to find that one out later on) - no charm /atmosphere whatsoever - staff at hotel reception was pretty unfriendly when arriving (Receptionist: 'This is the worst summer we've had in years. It's not a good year to come to travel the Faroe Islands.' - well thank you for that information, very welcoming) and as well when asking for other information - kitchen as well as showers were very untidy and dirty (bring flip flops to shower!) - some guests clearly smoked in their rooms (although forbidden), you could smell it in the hallway and in our room

Review 10:- Probably the cheapest beds you can get in town- kitchen (pretty dirty) was well equipped with quite a few cooking 'helpers' (e.g. tea cooker and toaster), although some things clearly missed (e.g. only one knife to be found in drawers) - big common area - clean linen for all guests - possibility to do laundry

Review 11:The bed was good, but not great.

Review 12:Great view of Torshavn from our room (a bit over half of the rooms in the hostel and all of the rooms in the hotel face the water)! Staff are very helpful, and the breakfast is great, if a little expensive (~$15). Totally worth it for the view and relaxing atmosphere.

Review 13:Plug points in crazy places (by the ceiling, 4 foot up by the door) -it's the only small moan I can think of really and mainly becausegadgets have such short charging leads. You have to boil Torshavn tapwater before drinking at the moment.

Review 14:Price for a double room so much cheaper than hotels in the city.Fantastic views down to Torshavn from our window. Clean communalfacilities, realiable free Wifi throughout. Free #1 bus every 20 minutesto the centre from the bottom of the hill.

Review 15:People didn't clean up after themselves in the kitchen.

Review 16:The hostel was quiet and the view was lovely when there was no fog - and atmospheric when there was!

Review 17:It looked like it was new, but I don't think it will last very long looking like that. The staff wasn't very welcoming. If you want to visit the city, its quite far away.

Review 18:The price.

Review 19:On top of a hill above town - nearest bus stop is 10 mins down steep unpaved path so if you have heavy cases you don't really have any option except to get a taxi.

Review 20:Comfortable hostel with good views, unstaffed but reception at hotel next door. Grass roof.

Review 21:It was too far from the downtown area and up hill. Had to take a taxi.

Review 22:It is a nice hostel and fits in with the surrounding countryside in an organic sort of way.

Review 23:The hostel's location is quite beautiful but far away from the city.

Review 24:Beautiful window view - you can see the city, the mountains, the ocean and Nolsoy island (if there is no fog)... and there are some sheep walking around... Big well-equipped kitchen (not always clean though). Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 25:You have to clean the room by yourself, and only the fewest people do this. No public transport to the hostel, only 2 very steep and uneven paths from the nearest bus-station (local busses do not run on sunday) Kitchen equipment was not enough (gryder, sharp knives). Wifi did not work in the room. The staff from the nearby hotel, who do the check in and check out, do not know anything about the hostel, e.g. where to put the trash from the room or how to use the safety lockers.

Review 26:Very nice location, if you have a car. Great view. Bath and toilet were clean. The laundry-facilities are very good. Rooms are small for 4 people, but ok.

Review 27:Very far from the town. If you have no car, you'll have trouble walking back and forth. You get used to it later, but still a long walk.

Review 28:Cozy rooms and nice beds. The view from the hostel is great.

Review 29:I would appreciate if the owner would ask the guests to take off the shoes at the entrance instead of walking around with dirty boots all over the building including the bathrooms. In Iceland they do it everywhere.

Review 30:Clothes dryer cut off leaving me with damp clothes and 30DKK out of pocket. Other guests stole my milk. Dry muesli makes me sad.

Review 31:I stayed a week in the 4 bed dorm. It was generally peaceful. About a 25 minute walk to the bus/ferry terminal. Fantastic views down onto Torshavn and Nolsoy island. A few footpaths nearby for wandering around the hills. Breakfast in the hotel was good but pricey (110DKK).

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:Location: on the hill with wonderful view over the harbor, it is actually next to an expensive hotel, so both are located equally with an apparent marginal price difference. Very clean. The reception is at the hotel 100 m away, open 24 hours; the breakfast is served there as well but expensive. The hostel has its kitchen that is as remarkably clean as the rest of the facility. The hostel's location is very good for bicyclists heading on the next day to the airport: 50 km of the niciest road slightly hilly. The town of Torshavn is 15 minutes' fast ride down the hill.

Review 34:Top of a BIG hill

Review 35:The hotel at the side is 5 star and you have breakfast with the real geasts.but over all a very nice place and a nice base for the faro islands.and free parking.

Review 36:- A bit far to walk with all your stuff. Allow half an hour up hill. There is a bus you can get, with a 10 min walk after. It runs every 20 minutes, but rarely comes in evenings and weekends. - Only time it is noisy is when groups of teenagers come

Review 37:- Clean - Very quiet - Had 6 person dormitory to myself for a week! I think they try to give people their own rooms if there is space. - 24 hour reception at the hotel - Nice modern wooden rooms - Well equipped kitchen

Review 38:Some groups stayed during the week and didnt cleaned up in kitchen after using it

Review 39:There was plenty of space, in the room, kitchen, laundryplace...friendly atmosphere with other travellers

Review 40:Breakfast: not included at the hostel, but well worth the price at the adjacent hotel. The hostel itself: Rooms clean. Well equipped kitchen. Nice staff at the adjacent hotel. Very nice view. The way down to the centre of Torshavn is gravel/asphalt and partly quite dark at night and steep. I did not find this problematic (on the contrary, quite nice and scenic), but I am putting this info out here for those who might.

Review 41:It was a little inconvenient to have to go downstairs to reach the showers. It would be nice to have showers on both floors. Also, the walls are very thin, and a guy in the next room was making phone calls late into the night.

Review 42:The rooms are very nice, very clean, and the bathrooms are conveniently located.

Review 43:There was absolutely no service. Nobody to help you with information, it was like a step sister to Hotel faroyer. Not a soul in the hostel for any kind of service,

Review 44:Nothing really, a bit of walk to town and back but that was no biggie..

Review 45:The facilities were spot on, it was clean and fresh and just a good experience, I would defo stay again.

Review 46:One of my fellow guests was horribly rude and insulting, but hey. Not everyone is nice, right? And the place was so great that couldn't even ruin my time!

Review 47:The staff was so helpful and knowledgable. They made me feel at home and helped me plan my days so I'd have an unforgettable experience!

Review 48:You would be hard pressed to find anything to dislike or fault.

Review 49:A beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean hostel with comfortable dorms, generous washrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a dining room the size of a football field. Its a 100 kr cab or a 40 minute walk on footpaths and suburban streets to get to the centre of town but that`s a small price to pay for staying in such a clean, well furnished hostel. By local standards its really good value for money. Strongly recommended.

Review 50:Location is only good if you have your own transportation. Please keep this in mind.

Review 51:Rooms are very clean and great condition. All looks very new, perfect place.m

Review 52:I didn't like the location, because it was really far away from the city centre. There were no lights on the long path up the mountain to the hotel.

Review 53:I liked that there was a kitchen and the toilets were very clean. The room was snug and cozy.

Review 54:I only managed to find one channel on the television.

Review 55:I were there in october, so there's not really busy at all. I think we were maximum 7 people living there, so it were very quiet. I booked a 4 bed dorm, but i was of course alone in that room. The bed was extremely good. The room had a bunk bed, one small bed that didnt looked so comfortable and a large bed suitable for two persons and it was extremely comfortable. Just like my bed at home. How can that be? Kitchen, toilets and showers was clean and fully equipped. Cheapest hostel on Faroe Island, and still this good. Nice!

Review 56:Spotty internet Coin operated lockers! $1 for each time you want to lock it and they not even big enough for my tablet! Also a slightly long walk from town when it's raining and 100km/h wind - but not bad when weather is nice.

Review 57:Everything else was good, just put some proper sized lockers in the room and make them free and fix the internet and the hostel would be great.

Review 58:- location - far from the city, and on the hilltop - door to the room had broken lock, reception told me that it's possible but nothing can be done about it

Review 59:+ location - beautiful panorama + comfortable beds

Review 60:the hostel is on the top of a hill and its quite a steep walk up there, from the center probably 30 minutes

Review 61:the rooms were ok and with a table and chairs the bathrooms were not bad with hot water and good water pressure

Review 62:The hostel itself is unmanned, so it is rather confusing that on arrival there is no check in and not even a door that looks like an entrance. Check in is at the hotel across the parking lot.

Review 63:Because the hostel does not have it's own staff, hostel guests have access to the front desk at the hotel just like the hotel guests, and they are very helpful.

Review 64:Nothing to dislike

Review 65:Value for money Helpful main hotel staff, no distinctions from them between big spenders and budget travellers in service standards Availability of decent value, high quality food in main hotel Fantastic views over Torshavn

Review 66:The hostel including toilets, bathrooms and kitchen were not cleaned at all in the time we were there Friday to Monday. The walls were paper thin - could hear everything that was said next door. Being next to a toilet wasn't nice either.

Review 67:Being able to cater for selves. The view was great.

Review 68:No breakfast.

Review 69:It was ok

Review 70:It's outside the city, so you need a car to go to Torshav.

Review 71:The hostel is cool, really clean, people are nice, and the staff really helpful.

Review 72:Noise.

Review 73:A shared shower mode, you get your own lockable changing rooms and shower area. Great

Review 74:It wasn't so expensive but whole facility was really clean and I still could walk to the city central

Review 75:Beautiful view from hostel, clean and big rooms.

Review 76:I liked the possibility to walk over to the next door 4-star hotel and have a drink, meal and breakfast. The rooms were nice and clean.

Review 77:Kitchen not very clean. Fridge full Expensive far from center

Review 78:toilet clean Heating confortable

Review 79:hard to approach with carrier.

Review 80:It has very good view, and all the facilities are clean.

Review 81:Good location Nice Kitchen All facilities good

Review 82:view and the hotel bar

Review 83:Views, clean, practical, nice kitchen

Review 84:The dryer cut off after a very short time and left me with a bunch of damp clothes.

Review 85:Fierce tidy and clean, spacious

Review 86:Not much space

Review 87:The view was the best everything else basic but clean.

Review 88:Showers were cold in the morning and the evening.

Review 89:Room and view.

Review 90:The table is bad in the room 19

Review 91:we have some food for free , free wifi

Review 92:Wifi is horrible. It`s far, meaning there is no close place to buy. And it rains.

Review 93:Price is kind of ok

Review 94:A bit up the hill, 20min walking from downtown. Thin walls and ceiling so you hear steps and other noise.

Review 95:Very nice and cozy place. Clean, big kitchen and tv room, free wifi, delicious breakfast (90 DKK but deffinitely worth it). Beautiful view from the room.

Review 96:When I arrived, my booking from booking.com was not found in the hotel's database and I needed to prove that I had a reservation. Community rooms were not really usable, because a social organization was using the whole building as their private office obviously. 40 minutes walk from city center... or paying a taxi each time!

Review 97:Really great prize, nice environment.

Review 98:nothing bad enough to not like !

Review 99:Friendly Staff and excellent food at the main hotel. Very good hostel, so much so it was by far the best me and my climbing friend have been in and we've been in a LOT of hostels all over Europe !

Review 100:No staff on site so when people are acting out of line there is no one there to reprimand them. The price was a bit much for what you are getting as well. Sort of like a cheaper hotel and not a hostel price.

Review 101:The room to myself since it wasn't high season. I loved the hike to the hostel every day. Great exercise and views. Also, the easy path to walk to get there. For some may not like this as it is out of the main part of town.

Review 102:Getting to the hotel from the city centre is quite the walk and becomes tiresome by the third day.

Review 103:The location and the main hotel are beautiful.

Review 104:Too far away from city center, no bus, no shuttle... Need to use taxies each time.

Review 105:Lovely nature Environment, great prize.

Review 106:Far away from downtown, uphill. Expensive taxi ride, alternatively heavy walking with luggage.

Review 107:Clean, neat and fresh rooms.
