Reviews for Hotel Castilla Vieja
Review 1:The street the hotel is situated in is not very attractive, but seems perfectly safe.
Review 2:Within easy walking distance of rail and bus stations and places of interest. I didn't have the buffet breakfast but the cafe serves a good continental breakfast and evening snacks very efficiently. Very good value for money in December and good when I visited in September, both times for academic research.
Review 3:Neighbours in the floor above our room (third floor, the last one of the hotel as upper floors in one of the wings are private apartments) were too noisy.
Review 4:Great location close to the city centre. Nice rooms (not too big but adequate)
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Lovely traditional hotel , easy check in and out . Bottled water supplied in corridor for guest free if of charge , nice touch . No extra charge for dogs .
Review 7:Dinner we was put in a small room away from the bar. steaks not cooked as asked for Had to send back. Chips dry. But was reasonable price and staff was helpful
Review 8:Very comfy. Stop off on drive from UK. nice location. Good staff. Pet friendly. Breakfast very good choice. Would return and recommend
Review 9:The staff are very helpfull. We never have any problem taking our dog in. Although the hotel parking is shared it appears to be closed when not in use.
Review 10:Came across this Parador by chance and what a great find. Wonderful old building extremely well preserved and with beautifully modernised rooms. Lift from lower floor which was at some stage a central courtyard. Dinner a bit disappointing but this was made up for by the superb breakfast. Would certainly go back.
Review 11:Nothing to dislike.
Review 12:Lovely large balcony, excellent dining area and large selection of hot and cold food at breakfast. Within easy walking distance of city centre.
Review 13:Very dreary room with minimal furniture. Poor room-to-room sound insulation. Pretty average breakfast.
Review 14:Good location close to the main square. Friendly staff and clean room.Secure parking.
Review 15:Booked a room that would sleep 3 adults (Double with a sofabed was the description) with a request for my 11 year old in an extra bed. On arrival we had a twin bedroom with an extra bed but no sofabed! They told me they emailed me to say the room I booked was not available but I did not get any email. I asked to see it & on checking they had mis-spelt the email address so explains why I had not received it. So we had to make do with 3 beds for 4 of us! Breakfast was very poor, the most expensive tea & croissant ever at 10 euros!
Review 16:Brilliant well located hotel near the main streets of beautiful Palencia. Staff very helpful. Good facilities and high level of cleanliness. Very good value for money. Secure car park. Pet friendly which was a must for us. In the corridor near our room there was a fridge with water bottles free of charge for residents use. So near all amenities and the cathedral. Will be happy to stay again in this hotel.
Review 17:Initially the receptionist was very surly and unfriendly but on our second visit to reception she could not have been more helpful.
Review 18:Beautiful junior suite with balcony, pretty area, great places to eat, breakfast was lovely.
Review 19:the access to and from car park was not easy to do if you don't like to use the lift. Air con did not work in room and the shutters would not come down to block out the heat and light.
Review 20:hotel has a good location , secure parking and the free water bottles were very welcome after a long HOT ride.
Review 21:Nothing bad to say
Review 22:We had a fantastic warm welcome, no problem parking, they were lovely to my little dog, and we had an upgrade to a junior suite which was sumptuous. Really good value for money
Review 23:The hotel is in a good position and easy to find. The staff were very helpful. Very spacious room. We only stayed for one night as a stop over en route to Santander but would not hesitate to use it again.
Review 24:Walls very thin if you have noisy neighbours.
Review 25:Pleasant hotel for an overnight stay. Car didn't fit in the underground parking (beware if you have a roof box), so the staff allowed us to park on the street right outside the front door.
Review 26:Expensive parking, no decent restaurants nearby but plenty of drinkingbars, beds too hard and poor Wifi speed in rooms
Review 27:Convenient stop on route to uk ferry,
Review 28:Everything. We have stayed at many hotels but this one outdid all the others. The staff could not do enough for us and even accepted us having three dogs in the bedroom. We left before breakfast but can only say that if evening dinner is anything to go by then we are sure breakfast would have been just as good. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone
Review 29:My daughter's wheelchair didn't fit in the very small lift. But staff were friendly and helpful with either looking after empty wheelchair in store room, or showing me to the service lift from where I could access the dining room on floor #1 or our room on floor #2. In fairness to the hotel I did not specify at time of booking that I had a wheelchair user. Missed out on lovely breakfast for 3 mornings as was unaware of the dining room on floor #1, only saw the "quick" breakfast on ground floor.
Review 30:Good bathroom, bed, wifi. Clean room. Quiet location in hotel. Liked the chilled water bottles in fridges on each floor by the lift.
Review 31:No tea making facilities in room although a fridge in hallway where you could help yourself to bottles of water free of charge.
Review 32:Secured car park underground was excellent.
Review 33:Parking at 9 euros a little expensive as we arrived late and left by 10am, but fixed daily rate. The parking was secure which was important with a loaded car.
Review 34:We arrived at 1.40am after a delayed ferry to Santander and we're greeted with a smile. The service good, and room comfortable. Good value at 48euros. breakfast at 9euro was fine.
Review 35:The only downside was we were on the front and it was a bit noisey but always went quiet. For the price we paid it was a bargain.
Review 36:The staff are very helpful, my phone would not work so they phoned our grandaughter for us. The room was very spacious and comfortable.
Review 37:nothing bad ,it does what it says on the tin!
Review 38:Friendly staff and a great underground car park right next to the hotel. A good tip is to drive into the Car park and park in the recess half way down and go back to check in as the street is always full of parked cars and you can't stop outside. Nice little bistro style restaurant on the ground floor and always busy with locals, we've stayed 3 times now and it is a very good stopover on the way to and from the ferry ports.
Review 39:On site restaurant had limited evening meal choice so had dinner at local recommendation from reception (Casa Pepe's) but excellent buffet breakfast made up for it
Review 40:Underground secure parking, friendly, helpful staff, clean and comfortable room
Review 41:Parking out side.not enough sign posting.
Review 42:Free bottled water in the hall next to the room.large rooms.comfy beds clean linen.free map of the area with restaurants marked.
Review 43:We already stayed twice at the Castilla Vieja on our way to Portugal, travelling with two dogs. The staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help. The Plaza Mayor, with nice reataurants and terraces, as well as a big park for dog walks nearby. We recommend it for anyone, especially for dog owners.
Review 44:No air-con in kids room. Interesting view of a large tin roof. Getting from the car park up to the hotel takes the scenic route (at one point I took the stairs and went through a door on the wrong floor, it slammed behind me and I found myself trapped in a gated area where I had to do a bit of a 'Bear Grylls' climb to get out).
Review 45:Booked family room which was a good size and had a separate bedroom for the kids. Clean. Secure parking (kind of.... I managed to drive my car into & park up before I had even checked in)(10euro per day). Nice little bar/cafe/restaurant. Good value.
Review 46:No option other than continental for breakfast on Mondays.
Review 47:Comfortable hotel. Good underground car parking. Continental breakfast reasonable and well priced.
Review 48:Ideal stop for Santander ferry. Dog friendly, underground garage which isn't too hard to drive a large car in. Hotel has been updated. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Close to small bars to people watch.
Review 49:Fantastic central location. Smart and clean room. Friendly staff. Secure parking and pet friendly
Review 50:Everything was OK.
Review 51:Quite, good location, parking
Review 52:Cheap, spotlessly clean and central. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Only two hours from Santander - a great stopover and pet friendly, too.
Review 53:Excellent hotel, the staff were welcoming and helpful
Review 54:A very good junior suit with two rooms and good furniture. Free cold water every day is very pleasant in a hot summer.
Review 55:Very friendly staff, good room and very comfortable beds. Second visit and will make a third.
Review 56:Very centrally located, rooms were first class and the staff were friendly and very helpful
Review 57:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities very good and a very nice City.
Review 58:Nothing othrr than lack of signal in your room
Review 59:Superb postion and very helpful staff
Review 60:Location - near the center
Review 61:Staff are always very helpful. The garage is easily accessible for a large car. Cold bottled water available on each floor.
Review 62:Walls are paper thin. Noisy neighbours !
Review 63:The bar.Free cold water.
Review 64:nothing.
Review 65:clean peaceful air con on a industrial estate with lots of restaurants central for airport.
Review 66:Finding we had to pay for parking
Review 67:I heard all noises from everyone :(
Review 68:lack of sound proofing in bed rooms.
Review 69:excellent value for money. private car park.
Review 70:Going home
Review 71:Great service, location and essential car parking! Great views of migrating birds (cranes) from hotel room. Fascinating town to explore
Review 72:Poor restaurant. No facilities.
Review 73:Parking was free, very good location, good room.
Review 74:The lift broke down.
Review 75:Very pleasant and informative reception staff - even gad a 'bell boy'
Review 76:Poor WiFi coverage.
Review 77:Quality and size of room. Friendly, helpful staff. Easy parking.
Review 78:A bit outdated.
Review 79:Everything clean.
Review 80:There was construction noise at 8:00 am already.
Review 81:Close to nicer part of town
Review 82:No wifi in room. Access from car park terrible. Parking 10€ a night is too much.
Review 83:Location
Review 84:The hotel seemed a little tired but it was clean.
Review 85:The parking facilities, the position of the hotel close to the centre and the good breakfast. Liked the idea of the free cold water available on each floor.
Review 86:Breakfast was in the bar, not really set up. We went in and were told to sit anywhere. Asked if we wanted coffee, not told where to get breakfast. There were just plates with a single croisant on bar counter. No bread, meats, cheese or even jam or butter. There were cakes but you could not help yourself and they had the cheek to charge 10 euros each for this. Also got the bill wrong when we went to pay.
Review 87:In centre of town, comfortable room and the hotel had a lovely decor. Secure parking but there was no access from the garage to the hotel. Best to unload bags before parking. Found a large square with lots of restaurants and off this a main street with lots of stalls with interesting goods. Went back to hotel for meal which we very much enjoyed.
Review 88:The room was very small and poorly equipped, just two beds and two hard chairs and a table, no fridge, no comfortable chair, no safe, no drinking glasses. The walls were thin and we could hear conversation and TV from the adjacent rooms. The bathroom was also small and basic with no space for toiletries. Overall the worst hotel room we have stayed in for many years.
Review 89:The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful, including those in reception, chambermaids and bar staff.
Review 90:Brilliant position in the centre of town. We needed secure parking which they had underground. Staff very helpful and friendly. We also had a big dog with us which they were ok about - we had a room with a large balcony which was perfect for him.
Review 91:I specificaly asked for a room on the avenue when I made my reservation, I got an approval for a third floor on the outside (avenue) on March 05 from Teresa from the hotel, but when I got there on the 17th I was given a small room on the inside looking on a wall. Although I have shown my approved reservation and room situation, the man at reception told me there was nothing to be done, he clearly could not care less.
Review 92:Hotel is clean, near center, nothing special, just average.
Review 93:Take care driving in and out of the garage as arrows are for you to drive on the wrong side of the road. Only a problem if you meet another car. .
Review 94:Hotel is easy to find, quite close to Santander. Easy access to the garage. Close to shops and bars. Wifi worked in the room.
Review 95:Lifts- impossible to fit 2 people and luggage or as my sister in law 2 people and pram. Access to parking. Having to leave building go outside to street and use different lift to parking which required special key (only 2 available) and having to return. Car out and then having to leave car and get key on return again to gain excess to car park once more
Review 96:Location. Free water provided
Review 97:Found the young guy working reception on arrival & departure put himself out to be helpful, well beyond what is normally expected, he was excellent, and nothing was too much trouble for him including helping us park in the underground car park, and taking our luggage to & from our room for us as we had our dog in tow. He made the stay even better than it should have been
Review 98:All the staff were friendly and helpful. The garage was secure and a young man came down from reception to take our cases and show us to our room. We recommended the hotel to two friends, one of which is staying this weekend and the other on their way back to Santander and we shall certainly book there on our way back from The Algarve. We arrived at 2200 hours, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Review 99:As we had dogs we found that we had chosen a hotel that had no real dog walking facilities near but that was our mistake and not the hotel's.
Review 100:Good value, underground parking, no charge for dogs, chilled bottled water cabinet in corridor. We cannot comment on the restaurant or breakfast as we stayed in our rooms with our dogs but there is room service and we had coffee delivered very quickly for breakfast.Useful overnight stop if you are in transit.
Review 101:Both the Staff at reception were unfriendly (unsmiling and notwelcoming) and rude (making a phone call as we were booking out), andless than helpful with information. We found nowhere in the hotel wherewe could relax after a long drive - it was all to formal. The diningarrangements were very poor. The evening meal was served by anotherunsmiliing waitress and served in a bar open to the public where we feltcrampt and conspicious as we were the only ones eating there. Whathappened to the dinning room? We pre paid for breakfast and found itcold and the restaurant lacked service.
Review 102:The "Bell Hop" was happy smilling helpful - a lovely youngman. The decor was very nice, but cold.
Review 103:That we had to empty the car inside. They said there was a private parking it was only a space for parking and everybody also from outside the hotel could enter.
Review 104:Restaurant was good, nice service from the all staff, breakfast buffet was complete.
Review 105:The sound isolation was very bad. I could almost understand what my room neighbors were saying, or what TV show they were watching.
Review 106:The room was large and confortable. Location is also good. Free wifi internet in the room (although it did not reach the room of a colleague, who was staying a few rooms away from mine).
Review 107:The warm caring welcome and attention of the staff during our stay. Very accomodating to our pet labrador
Review 108:nothing
Review 109:Easy to find, secure parking on site. Cafeteria/restaurant - good value, friendly staff.
Review 110:Map given to find sights (such as there are) was poor and hard to read.
Review 111:The cafe bar and staff there.
