Reviews for Manoir de Rouessé
Review 1:A calm oasis in a busy town, wonderful warm welcome and fantastic hospitality. Excellent breakfast with home made jams. Very large room with lots of querky features.
Review 2:Would have liked a kettle in our room, to make tea, but it is not a big thing.
Review 3:Booked through Safran Tours for cycling (The bicycles are based at Manoir de Rouesse). The lady on reception was very helpful, as was the maitred'hotel. The service in the restaurant was excellent.
Review 4:Our too short stay.
Review 5:This was our second stay here. We were so happy to be back and were welcomed like old friends. The evening meal and breakfast were delicious. As usual Whisky the dog was delightful, even coming out to see us off in the morning. An ideal stop over on your way through France.
Review 6:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It’s a characterful building, and the room we had was quite quirky, with steps up and down to get to the bathroom. The food was excellent, the breakfasts, and the evening meal we had there with friends. It has a large and secure car park, which was important to us.
Review 7:The only downside was the gravel drive and parking area which was not good for a motorcycle. Fortunately we stayed upright.
Review 8:Everything was very good indeed. We booked an evening meal and that too was excellent, including the local wine offered.
Review 9:Nothing really.
Review 10:Made to feel very much at home. Rooms were lovely - loads of style. Nice large comfortable bed. Despite being in the town, it was very quiet. Happily recommend it.
Review 11:Relatively long walk to the centre ville, but quite possible.
Review 12:Nice atmosphere at the hotel and classic decoration of the rooms. Surrounded by a big park like garden with a pond. Helpful and friendly english-speaking staff. Good breakfast! Free parking. You feel like a king, and i would definitely go back again!
Review 13:Excellent location: very close to the town but felt like you were in the middle of the country. Lots ot see & do in the town. Accommodating hosts: friendly, helpful. Beautiful Manoir.
Review 14:The reasonably close proximity to the town meant that we didn't have to drive there. The hosts were very friendly and complemented the whole experience.
Review 15:Nothing. Not a thing.
Review 16:everything. The family who own this place are very laid back, very friendly and very efficient. The dining experience in an old oak beamed room, soft music, very good food and wines. Our room was up a granite spiral staircase. Good size room too.
Review 17:Room 11 has mould dampness and is generally inadequate.
Review 18:Rooms in main building very large and traditionally furnished. Breakfast looks meagre in portions but more items came on request. Overall quite nice.
Review 19:The location was everything you imagine a French Chataux to be with stone spiral staircases oak beams everywhere and real French charm. We could have not been made more welcome by our hosts, who even cooked us dinner.
Review 20:No issues
Review 21:Character building in good situation just on the outskirts. Quiet location with 'atmosphere'. Excellent hosts service and friendly dog.
Review 22:It is not in an attractive area, but it was convenient for our ferry crossing the next day from Roscoff
Review 23:Lovely house surrounded by suburban housing in a busy industrial town. It would be difficult to find without Sat Nav. We had a good breakfast and nice dinner.
Review 24:nothing
Review 25:Lovely room in one of the towers. Charming main house. Dinner and breakfast excellent. Spacious grounds to walk our dog. very friendly owner.
Review 26:Nothing, but we were aware of what to expect! If you're looking for five star luxury this isn't for you.
Review 27:Built just after the Hundred Years War around 1440, this quirky turreted manor house is the ideal place to stay if you are a medieval fanatic like my wife. Don't expect luxury or modern furnishings; the whole place is steeped in faded charm. Ample breakfast and a do it yourself packed lunch was provided. Dinner on our first night was delicious. I am Gluten Free and Pierre assured me that he understood my requirements. (I did take my own bread, GF bread doesn't seem to be widely available in France.) Do note it is a restoration work in progress but one of which our hosts were very proud.
Review 28:Zero.
Review 29:Superb accommodation in beautiful surroundings with impeccable hospitality. Manoir de Rouessé fails to disappoint, and then some. Firstly, parking is amble and free. The place was super-easy to find on or sat nav too. It's situated a good mile or so from Laval centre which means it's peaceful but not far from places to eat or visit. We only ate once at the hotel during our 7 night stay, and the food was fantastic (duck) and sensibly priced. We had breakfasts all 7 mornings which we found to be great value (not cheap) which include excellent home made jams and museli as well as the freshest imaginable bread, toast and croissants, all the tea, fresh coffee and juice you can drink too. The room was amazing, better than any hotel I've ever stayed at and with more original features and charm than most of the castles we visited over the week. There are stairs, steep stairs and lots of them. This was not a problem for us, but might be for some. Our host, Pierre, was super and great fun. In his own words 'sorry I'm not serious'. His wife, who Pierre assured us was lovely was away the week we stayed. In conclusion, stop looking and book now. It's not the cheapest but it's incredible value for money.
Review 30:Long walk to Leval centre which is suppose to be picturesque suffice to say we didn't make it but chose instead to enjoy our surroundings at the manor and enjoy a chilled bottle of white wine on the terrace so not really anything that we didn't like
Review 31:Setting beautiful. Hosts very welcoming. Provided with evening meal if we wanted (at extra cost, but very reasonable) home cooked food and wine from the cellar - simply marvellous. Building dates back to the 14th century, a real privilege to share the owners house
Review 32:The male owner is apparently not very well at the moment, and turned out to be irritable and confrontational, not only to us, but to other guests as well. We hope he gets better soon!
Review 33:The location was good for our purposes. The room was quirky, huge, and very comfortable. Madame was lovely and made us very welcome. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice
Review 34:For any enthusiast traveller on France this amazing treasure on the outskirts of Laval is a delight if only for the efforts of the proprietors to achieve a standard of excellence that is rare today. The food is a delight and the accommodation spotlessly clean. The welcome is genuine and enthusiastic and the cost remar4kably reasonable. The manoir itself is obviously ancient and a work of love in progress..
Review 35:Nothing!
Review 36:The room was perfect it was very comfortable and fitted the five of us with plenty of space. The grounds of the house are beautiful a lovely oasis in Laval.
Review 37:Bathroom was extremely small. Breakfast a bit basic.
Review 38:It was a place that had olde world charm and very quiet . Pierre the owner was quite a character. Evening meal was good.
Review 39:I had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay for 3 nights in early July. The location, food and wine were excellent. The owners made me feel very welcome and are really nice. The price was good and I will definitely be visiting again.
Review 40:The weather, it rained, I joke!
Review 41:Well,I can have nothing to say but good things about my stay, A very warm welcome and the location, service, hospitality was wonderful i will revisit again and again!
Review 42:When we booked this hotel we were told that we could have dinner and when we arrived we were told that they were unable to provide us with a meal. So we had to make our own alternative arrangements after a long The bathroom light fitting in the bathroom was faulty and the switch was buzzing.
Review 43:Beautiful setting and building very peaceful and quiet. Owner was friendly and helpful.
Review 44:We loved it all the crumbling romantic old building, the laid back atmosphere and the friendly and fun hospitality, we stayed on the way south and on the return journey.
Review 45:No kettle for coffee or tea in the room, but having said that no big problem,
Review 46:The place, the location, the owners were very nice people, and very helpful, the food was great the wine was good and the room was fantastic, the price was great can not fault it at all, it was very good.
Review 47:Great friendly owners, couldn't be more helpful, Great evening meal, and lovely French breakfast.
Review 48:Wonderful building. Medieval fortified manor. We had rooms in one of the towers set in the enclosing wall.
Review 49:44 stone stairs to bedroom and 5 to bathroom
Review 50:hotel quirky
Review 51:The owners were lovely, the evening meal was amazing and great value,
Review 52:Very interesting property - artist's paradise. Friendly dog! Hostess provided gluten free/vegetarian dinner.
Review 53:Breakfast average Laval quiet on Sunday morning so left early
Review 54:Quirky property Fabulous evening meal Good location
Review 55:The chateau was beautiful, the room magnificent and the hosts welcoming and lovely.. The wine, supplied without asking made the evenings fly by!!!
Review 56:Nothing
Review 57:Location and the ambiance
Review 58:A most unlikely setting for a 15th century castle with all mod coms - would certainly stay again.
Review 59:Interior decorations. The environment, the manor was surrounded by industrial sites. Pity
Review 60:Remarkable proportions, a manor house of superior beauty.
Review 61:Not really within walking distance from the centre of town.
Review 62:A very friendly and hospitable reception and a delightful and unusual place to stay.
Review 63:Super nice family Super dinner Nice woods surround
Review 64:A nice little castle hotel just outside the centre ville. Nice atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff, who speak english. Good breakfast.
Review 65:Breakfasts!
Review 66:Full of atmosphere and history. Lovely quiet setting, hosts friendly and very casual. Dinner excellent bit breakfast was a let down!
Review 67:ATMOSPHERE SUPPER SERVICE GOOD HOSPITALITY
Review 68:Food and atmosphere were excellent. Hosts were very friendly, and had plenty of character. Good value for money.
Review 69:Hosts were very attentive and good fun,
Review 70:A wonderful and atmospheric building. A thrill for adults and children to be there. Everything that a modern hotel room is not and all the better for it!
Review 71:Awkwardly planned modern bathroom in neighbouring attic (up 3 steps, over beam, & down 4) & needs separate gentle lighting to reach safely at night. Thick curtain by toilet clean but could be accidentally soiled. Unnecessary extra basin, expensive looking & complex shower with trickle of water: would do better to have simpler facilities which work better. Room unsuitable for people with limited mobility. Need more electric sockets to charge mobile phones etc.
Review 72:Fifteenth century manor house set in quiet woodland grounds but close to city centre. Owned by charming family, who provided excellent supper. Spacious newly renovated attic bedroom full of character. Much work done, but slight air of delapidation adds rustic charm. Overall experience very pleasant despite dislikes: would stay at Manoir again.
Review 73:Not so much "what didn't you like" more an observation; despite the obvious character of the buildings and surroundings things looked a little "tired". However, this would not put us off staying here again.
Review 74:The rustic charm of the place. The reception was welcoming and help and assistance provided was excellent. A very pleasant stay.
Review 75:the hosts are trying hard to keep this working castle going as a viable commercial enterprise and it is a pleasant opportunity to stay there and interact with them at meal time and the few other guests about the entire experience. They encourage exploring the property and grounds and their lively dalmation enjoyed leading us around to some of the better spots.
Review 76:Shower didn't get very warm.
Review 77:Architecturally very interesting setting, immediate environs tranquil, other worldly. Hosts most welcoming, son particularly engaging, good and ready food - excellent green salad. Fortress-like room key - redolent of fantastic adventures. Song of the frogs at night - beautiful, magical. Time capsule to realm of another way of living.
Review 78:The service quality is very poor, despite the disadvantage a suitable accommodation for a visit to the center city of Laval,
Review 79:Hotel's location is excellent,
Review 80:Difficult to find with a knackered sat nav on a motorbike.
Review 81:Really wacky fab place to stay owned by a lovely family who happen to cook fab food. Would definitely return.
Review 82:Poor breakfast, not very luxurious bath room and facilities. Wifi is practically inexistant and TV capture is poor.
Review 83:Beautiful and green place. Not too expensive, calm and big room
Review 84:That we only had one nights stay.
Review 85:The rustic charm enhanced by the friendly, slightly eccentric owners and their family. Lovely evening meal and breakfast. Very relaxed atmosphere.
Review 86:Absolutely nothing. It was great!!!
Review 87:The whole ambience. It was like being a family member. We stayed in themanoir itself in a room up a stone spiral staircase. The bathroom wassmall and, as described elsewhere, like a plastic pod, but it served itspurpose and we don't spend much time in the bathroom! I do wonder atsome of the negative comments left by people. Perhaps they need to chillout and get a life. The building and grounds were magical for anyonewith a sense and appreciation of history. The food was prepared byNatalie including the jams and yoghurt at breakfast. Just let Pierreprovide the wine and the calvados and enjoy yourselves. The evening mealwas superb, Guinea Fowl as main course and Ile Flotante for pudding.Wine, coffee, calvados.
Review 88:An excellent place to stay - definitely would recommend it! Really friendly staff, delicious home-cooked meal in the evening followed by another delicious breakfast the following day! A lovely setting within an easy 5 minute drive into the centre of the medieval town of Laval.
Review 89:Whilst this is not a negative point to me, the bedrooms in the chateau would bit be difficult to access for those who have difficulty with stairs.
Review 90:This is no ordinary hotel. It is a wonderful characterful place for those wanting a taste of romantic history, run by people who have a passion for the building and its heritage. Clean and comfortable, with huge rooms and good breakfast. We'd definitely come back again, as it is so much richer an experience to staying in an all singing, all dancing hotel!
Review 91:Could be a bit cleaner.
Review 92:This place is conviniently located close to (but away from) the motorway. Totally quiet spot. Great atmoshpere due to the history of the place and nice decoration inside. Ideal for a stop over when travelling lond distance. Very friendly staff. Very good Dinner for great value.
Review 93:The bed was incredibly hard!
Review 94:Beautiful looking manor in good location to local interests. We had an amazing room which was very quirky and basic but clean. It overlooked a wild pond and woods full of toads and birds. Host very welcoming and the food was lovely. Very generous with the drinks! We found it a wonderful experience and very good value for money.
Review 95:This is such a relaxing place to stay with lovely hosts who treat you as part of their family. Food and wine is terrific and definitlyto be recommended.
Review 96:Loved the ambience and antiquity of the Manoir......ducks and water hen chorusing outside the tower window. Very peaceful.
Review 97:The bathroom was out of keeping with the manor but totally adequate
Review 98:The host was wonderful, the room huge and bed comfortable
Review 99:We had a great time with the owner of the hotel during dinner and breakfast!
Review 100:It was advertised that Internet was available but in fact was not.
Review 101:This place is perfection, the hosts are outstanding, with a wonderful kindness. 20/10 all day long. A beautiful place with beautiful people.
