Reviews for Domaine de Bayeux

Review 1:nothing

Review 2:We had the top floor suite, beautifully done. Be mindful, low beams for tall people, otherwise view from the round windows wonderful. Secure parking and easy walk to Bayeux core .

Review 3:This has definitely been the best stay ever. We have stayed in Suit Deluxe. Interior was amazing, as seen on the pictures. The bed was extremely comfortable, bathroom was really spacey. Breakfast was very nice, with great selection of meals, the view from dining room is great. The personnel was very kind and helpful.

Review 4:We had trouble finding the hotel due to the extensive one way system inbayeux. Unfortunately, we had to catch an early ferry and there was nobreakfast provided just a coffee machine but we were not given adiscount by the hotel. We had breakfast 4.5 hours later on the ferry.

Review 5:Convenient location to centre of bayeux.

Review 6:We were treated very well from the moment we arrived. We had a late check in and the property manager was very kind and accommodating. The bedroom was beautiful and the bathroom fantastic. The garden is very special and makes you feel like you are in a little Versailles.

Review 7:Really beautiful old mansion house...make sure you have a walk in the gardens. Very central. We had a suite and the room was exactly as described, perfect. The bathroom was enormous and very well equipped. The breakfast is around one large table, we had a lovely breakfast with another couple but thats not everyones taste.

Review 8:That we couldn't stay longer...

Review 9:Great , welcoming staff. Lovely rooms and superb location. Look no further - this is the place to stay if you want to be in Bayeux.

Review 10:A short walk to the train station, and a short walk into town. Our room was fantastic - newly remodeled. Luxury coffee/espresso machine in communal area. Good breakfast. Room was large and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The communal rooms were wonderful for meeting other guests. The backyard was heavenly. A nice surprise - made for a special memory.

Review 11:My wife and I stayed at the Domaine de Bayeux for two evenings and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff treated us very well. We stayed in the "Omaha" suite which had a balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. It has a King bed, newly done bathroom and another room off of the bedroom for TV viewing. The location was in a charming old-world village with several choices for dining and a beautiful cathedral close by. We met the owner on the day of our departure and she was absolutely wonderful.

Review 12:We booked a junior suite with queen double in traditional style and need up in a tiny attic room with a toilet in a cupboard behind a sliding door! for the money very poor value. would have been happy if we had paid around €50 not €176!

Review 13:great location near all the tourist attractions of Bayeux.

Review 14:I do not like to give bad reviews because it can damage a businesses reputation. but in the case of this hotel, where do I begin! I can't tell you how disappointed I was with Domaine de Bayeux. It looks quite lovely in the pictures but the main picture of the house was taken from the back yard. The entry to the house is a pebbled driveway and very unattractive. It is also a couple of blocks away from the attractive part of town and not particularly nice in this area. We stayed two nights at another hotel in Bayeux that was so incredibly lovely and cost less than the rather shabby Domaine. I am not going to name the other hotel because that is not my intention. Also, we checked in early but the room wasn't ready so we left our luggage, mentioning to the person at the desk we had to leave at 8 the next morning. Nothing was mentioned about needing to check out the night before because of an early departure. When we came back in the late afternoon the fellow at the desk knew nothing about our earlier arrival and the fact that the earlier person had changed us to a different room because of our heavy suitcase and the difficulty of carrying it up the stairs.. We were given no further instructions or information We left for dinner around 6:30 and when we came back at 9:50 the house was locked up tighter than a drum and we had no key. We pushed a buzzer but could not understand the response in French. It does not appear that any staff stays on the property. We were quite fortunate someone came to retrieve a car near the front door and they knew the code to buzz us in. Whew. No one was there in the morning other that the lovely woman who prepares the breakfast. Our guide and driver picked us up and off we went. When our French guide called back later in the day to explain we had left without checking out with anyone the Domaine staff person was quite rude to him. Enough said.

Review 15:Our room had a nice shower and the young woman who prepared the breakfast was very pleasant.

Review 16:That we couldn't stay longer!

Review 17:Beautiful junior suite in the roof space. Great big bed, nice furnishings and a huge his and her bathroom. Lovely building near the Cathedral etc. Very helpful staff.

Review 18:The place looks amazing in pictures but the property is smaller than what I expected. The room was beautiful but to pricey for the type of property.

Review 19:It was really well located and it was a really nice room (but overpriced in relationship with the property)

Review 20:Excellent location for visiting the town of Bayeux and also the many interesting places to visit in Normandy. Loved the long table at breakfast where we met so many different nationalities.

Review 21:Small issue with the shower - water sprayed out of both sides and soaked the floor! Maybe we were using it incorrectly...could be "operator" difficulties.

Review 22:My husband and I booked a trip to Bayeux at the absolute last minute and the only room that Domaine de Bayeux had available was the King Deluxe Suite...we knew we didn't need all of that space, but BOY were we happy that we booked anyway! The room was in impeccable condition - clean, beautifully decorated, fabulous linens, and a lovely view of the garden. Our check-in experience was perfect, with stories about the history of the building, the town, and help with scheduling our weekend. Breakfast was tasty, ample and had something for everyone. Great stay!

Review 23:2 euros for a cup of tea or coffee from a machine is probably a bit expensive.

Review 24:Incredible bathroom, great breakfast lovely suite and all within 5 minutes walk of the Bayeux Tapestry

Review 25:Honestly it's a nice place but not worth the price in my view. Have to pay for tea & coffee, wifi so bad wouldn't even work in our room, down stairs room can hear every foot step upstairs, breakfast was only ok. We had a number of French traditional breakfast on our trip & this was nothing in comparison.

Review 26:location, premises is unique & pretty, staff very lovely & helpful, place very clean & well maintained

Review 27:The check-in process was a bit frustrating. Only one person on duty and we were asked to sit in the salon for some time - while the hotel employee went through every detail of Bayeux and the sights with two other couples checking in before us (very frustrating after a full day of travel). Internet far too slow, pillows too small (more like cushions), and we would prefer not to share the breakfast table with the other guests.

Review 28:Well sized rooms in a beautiful old building in a great location. Access to a fabulous garden. Very helpful staff (except for our check-in process) and a wonderful breakfast.

Review 29:I really enjoyed the free glass of wine at the end of the day either on the terrace or indoors. Close proximity to down and free parking at the hotel for my car.

Review 30:We had to leave early for the ferry and were told that the bread would be delivered so we could have something to eat before we left but it never turned up so we just had to make do with a coffee.

Review 31:Ample free parking was a big plus for me

Review 32:Excellent central location for all Bayeux offers - within a stone's throw of the Tapestry & Cathedral and several very good restaurants. Charming period property with thoughtful modern touches - fabulous luxurious bathrooms and beautifully furnished suites. An oasis of calm.

Review 33:The Owner and staff were so friendly and helpful. Beautiful property in a great location. Enjoyed meeting other guests around the communal breakfast table. Close to everything.

Review 34:Our room was majestic in size, decor and comfort. Every staff member we encountered was warm, welcoming and sooo helpful. The breakfast is unbelievable. Everything one could possibly want for breakfast including plenty of chocolate.

Review 35:i like coffee making facilities in a room, this didn't have any, but that did not detract from the stay.

Review 36:The hotel/chateau was an unexpectedly charming place. The room was fabulous and the bed enormous and comfortable.

Review 37:If had to make a negative comment it would only be that there are no tea and coffee dacilities in the room. However , you can ask staff for drink at 2 euros. Take bottled water with you for through night as room gets warm.

Review 38:Room very luxurious, spacious, clean, high quality fixtures abd fittings. Warm, plenty of sockets, good tv, firm bed, plenty of light, bathroom huge with hus n her sinks, large bath, separate walk in shower. Beautiful gardens. 2 mins walk into centre of Bayeaux.

Review 39:Nothing negative.

Review 40:It was like staying Ina mini-chateau. Very nicely decorated and the bathroom in our suite was amazing and modern in contrast with the High French decor in the bedroom. Loved the old wooden floors and big windows. So much more interesting than staying in a run-of-the-mill hotel like the others in Bayeux.

Review 41:Wi-Fi and TV reception poor.

Review 42:Loved the staff who made it come to life; loved the position as we could walk to our favourite restaurant (le Ptit Normande) ; warm in heat and welcome; spotless and plenty of room to relax in. Ideal for a romantic getaway or a simple few days stop-over to visit Bayeux and the beautiful surrounding area.

Review 43:Very poor wifi in our room.

Review 44:Great room. We stayed in room on top level, lots of stairs up to it but we didn't mind. Bathroom was amazing! Bed was amazing! Breakfast was amazing! They looked after our bags while we went for a tour of DDay beaches. Very welcoming staff

Review 45:That I couldn't stay for longer :(

Review 46:Booked this bed and breakfast for 4 nights for a 50th birthday trip for my husband, we also took the in laws. good points: 30 minutes from Caen ferry port. private car parking. absolute luxury for a very reasonable price. host spoke English and was very accommodating. breakfast was amazing, so much choice and a lot of it!! Beautiful gardens. Within 30 minutes from all the Normandy beaches and museums. 5 minute walk into Bayeux centre. Le Conquerant restaurant is round the corner, English speaking, only do fish and chips, nice landlord but below average food. Le Garde Manger is about 5 minutes into town and had some English speaking staff , very nice food £10 to £20 a main meal. Also tried Le Table Du Terroir, again 5 minutes walk even with the in laws! Lovely authentic French restaurant, lovely ambiance, need to be able to speak a little French, same prices as previous but worth it. Would definitely recommend this place!!!!

Review 47:Amazing room, amazing staff, wonderful breakfast with a huge variety. The staff will do anything and everything for you, very welcoming. Great location for exploring Normandy (we took the car) and a strip of restaurants 5 minutes away.

Review 48:We have no complaints! It was a great experience.

Review 49:The facilities were beautiful, the bathroom was sleek and modern and spotless. The breakfast was very good and served in a dining room overlooking a garden. We were not able to get a taxi to pick us up at the car rental agency so the innkeeper picked us up and took us to the station.

Review 50:I had to pay upfront before I could see the room, the owner seemed a bit sergeant majorish, very abrupt but not in anyway rude.apart from that it is a lovely place

Review 51:the rooms were excellent, the breakfast was good, the location was very good,i could not fault it in anyway.

Review 52:Coming home to my small double bed. There was nothing to dislike about this hotel.

Review 53:This has got to be the best hotel we have ever stayed in. It was clean and comfortable, newly decorated, superb location friendly staff and the bed was the most comfortable bed ever

Review 54:If u are tall request a room NOT on the top floor. My husband is 6 ft4 and hit his head repeatedly in our dormered room!

Review 55:Great breakfast! Staff very helpful. Location is perfect - train station 2 blocks away and downtown also within walking distance. If u need to rent a car Renault is beside train station.

Review 56:Some wall switches did not seem to work anything. External lights on balcony were bare sockets hanging from wires, no bulbs. No none-slip bath mats in shower, slippery floor when wet. Style over substance... taps had no indication of hot/cold. Shower/tap selection Some light shades missing over one sink. Breakfast was served on a large communal table in a elegant room. However one had to reach over other clients to get to cereals, fruit, cold drinks etc.

Review 57:Excellent room in the main house, with a seperate lounge and balcony. Ultra modern bathroom, two sinks, shower, bath and toilet. Lots of nice soft towels and bath robes. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice. Coffee and limited choice of drinks available via honesty box and small fridge out of hours. It has only been open since May 2014 so still de-bugging. Most staff spoke english and all very helpfull

Review 58:Other guests tramping around in the room above. The floor is not well insulated and every footstep sounded like a tap dancing elephant

Review 59:Location Breakfast around one table with other guests Comfortable bed and great bathroom

Review 60:one very small soap bar in the bedroom bathroom. I would recommend the rooms in the main house over the guest house

Review 61:beautiful garden to have a glass of wine in. great breakfast. quiet spot

Review 62:Loved the communal breakfast with fellow guests. The property is beautiful. Staff went out of their way to please. Great location. Proprietor loves what he does and shares his enthusiasm.

Review 63:Large rooms, fabulous bathroom (for king bedroom) very comfortable beds. Great location to walk to everything in city center, beautiful grounds . Wonderful breakfast with many choices (hot, cold, freshly made) Funky decor- mix of modern and Victorian.

Review 64:no mattress covers on the bed, could feel the mattress buttons through the sheet! Coffee machine didn't work, had to wait for it to be made then it tasted instant! Fresh coffee is expected in an establishment like this. Communal breakfast which didn't work and cooked breakfast was only warm and not cooked to order

Review 65:location Very informative staff about the area

Review 66:No coffee or tea in the room, and for the money, we still paid two euros for a cup of tea, or a small bottle water in the evening. No air, this would be too hot for the summer

Review 67:Good location, nice staff

Review 68:Room had a bed an end table, and a tv that did not work, and that's it, no rugs, looks like they ran out of money in decoration,

Review 69:Young woman on duty in the evening was delightful, bathroom brand new and room not touched in 100 years

Review 70:Having to leave after only one night.

Review 71:From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome and relaxed. The staff are all very efficient and friendly and the building is beautiful. The facilities are excellent. The communal breakfast table is a lovely idea. I really wish I could have stayed longer.

Review 72:We were there almost a week. The cost was high, so a free water left in the room daily as well replenished shampoo and bath gel daily would have been nice. The staff was great and helpful when we asked for these items. Just should not have to ask. An easy thing to fix if the owners read this review.

Review 73:The bathroom was very modern, the staff friendly, and the breakfast quite good. We slept well and the room was lovely. Very close to the train station so an easy walk even with suitcases. Oh, and the towels and bathrobes we thick and soft! A nice touch.

Review 74:Would of liked tea and coffee in the room as well as an iron.

Review 75:Lovely building right in the centre of Bayeaux close to all attractions. Room and bathroom were lovely. Breakfast was good.

Review 76:Beautiful place to stay! It is a mansion that was owned by a doctor in times past that has now been converted into a hotel. Beautiful room and grounds.

Review 77:French Owners are so sweet and helpful. Helped us get another tour to mont st . Michel. Have people that work for them that help translate for English .

Review 78:Breakfast was continental. Quite a variety of foods .

Review 79:-The only thing I really didn't like was the fact that the wi-fi was really slow and mostly not working at all

Review 80:-The arthmosphere in the house and in the garden. Both house and decor are beautiful. -The staff was incredibly helpful. Just one exemple, we arrived late. So late that all restaurants in the area stopped serving dinner. Then we we're brought with to the kitchen and we're offered to take what we wanted from the breakfast food. -The room was really beautiful -The breakfast was the best I've had.

Review 81:The price of €204 for a garret room for one, no curtains but cushions pushed into window 'oeil de boeuf' openings!-even with excellent ensuite bathroom, was rather steep compared to other venues in Dieppe. The cheaper rooms, in the annexe might be better value. Bayeux has a great choice of hotels so choose carefully. Outrageous reproduction baroque furniture and mirrors out of keeping with the history and elegance of the building. It seems a 2 star hotelier has just bought it to move upmarket. Worn stair carpet, and

Review 82:Breakfast at one long table where one meets many different nationalities. Its closeness to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum- five minute walk. Madame works incredibly hard, as do her staff. Nice garden and views-

Review 83:Hard to find but worth the time to locate! Beautiful grounds , huge bedrooms with very nicely appointed bathrooms and furniture. We requested a ground floor room - there is only one and they saved it for us! breakfast was great , staff was really helpful.location was within walking distance of the town and the Tapestry. visit if you can - we would love to go back in winter!!

Review 84:We are used to extremely comfortable beds at home, so we usually find most beds way too hard. This was the axes here.

Review 85:Location was very good. Staff were helpful.

Review 86:Furniture not authentic, no wardrobe just a coat reck on the wall, small bathroom without shelves or place to store your toiletries, no coffee facilities in the room although indicated on website.

Review 87:Location, beautiful building, nice garden, rather comfortable bed, lots of potential.

Review 88:Saying goodbye after three fabulous nights at this property.

Review 89:The building is beautiful& steeped in history, the bedroom we had in the attic, has been wonderfully renovated- top quality furnishings& fittings. Fantastic choice & quantity of breakfast goodies, laid out on a huge table . Ideally situated near the Tapestry & wonderful cathedral, also many shops& restaurants. All staff warm, welcoming& helpful.

Review 90:Ant infestation! There were literally hundreds of flying ants in my fathers suite. He spent two hours until 1 AM the first night killing them with a towel and stomping the ones on the ground. My brother showed the young men on night duty, and he returned five times the next day it while we were out killing them endlessly. Even the next night though, there was still a number of ants there.Obviously, for spending over $400 per room per night Canadian, this is not okay. We had three rooms as well, as we were a group of eight. We would have expected a message from the management offering apologies, and quite honestly for a four or five star hotel, my expectation would have been a waived night. The wonderful young man on nights had promised that management would talk to us about the issue, so we did ask about it the next day. But nothing. Even after the third night, checking out, nothing. Even after asking a third time on checkout, the only thing the manager was they waived laundry fee for my room in lieu. And that was quite reluctant. The checkout was probably the worst part of the whole stay. That was done by the manager. She was quite sour to deal with. We had left ourselves 30 minutes to check out, as we had a train to catch. When I booked this on booking.com, months earlier, it said that it had to be pre-paid in full, and I put this all on our credit card. However the manager insisted that we had not paid. She could not show us any proof though that our credit card had not been charged, and their Wi-Fi is kind of terrible. So it was extremely stressful trying to get to the train station while sorting this out. In the end, we just paid again. It did turn out that we had not been charged when we booked the rooms on booking.com, even though that's what it said it was going to occur at that time. But it was just very unprofessional and chaotic.

Review 91:Fantastic location, only five minute walk from the train station. Just look on Google maps and click on the 3-D live view before you go so that you know which street to turn down from the train station. 5 to 10 minute walk to buy you tapestry and the cathedral. Perhaps a 20 minute walk to the war Museum. All well worth seeing. Fantastic restaurants in the Cathedral area, worth paying more to stay in walking distance. Aesthetically beautiful rooms and back yard, family suite was enormous, beautiful public sitting area. Gave a lovely complimentary welcome of champagne and foie gras. The breakfast buffet was absolutely amazing. The young man working nights was wonderful, he offered bottles water when we returned from tours, always friendly. He even took our laundry and had the staff at the "main hotel", I think the hotel Bayeux?, take our laundry to wash. This was when I asked him where the closest self serve laundromat was. He said that this service was free, as "anything I do for you is all included in the hotel cost for your night". Of course I didn't think that this could be real, and I asked him several times what the cost to us would be, as I did not want to see a charge for The usual exorbitant hotel prices for doing laundry. He insisted it was free, so we gave him our one basket of laundry for my family of four. Unfortunately, when it came time to check out the next day, the very unpleasant manager that was doing our check out tried to charge us for this laundry. I asked her to call the young man to confirm that he insisted it was free, but she was very reluctant to waive the charge. It was only when I brought up the fact that they had not reduced the price of the rooms for the ant infestation in my fathers suite (as they had promised to "look into") that she finally waved this fee. There was no further reduction on the rooms for the ant infestation.

Review 92:A sign outside with the name of the hotel would have been useful. Also the mattress did not have a protector so the mattress buttons could be felt through the bed-sheet.

Review 93:Beautifully renovated manor house with a lovely peaceful garden. Helpful friendly staff and particularly liked the big communal breakfast table, where you could chat with fellow guests. Bedroom was spacious and full of light.

Review 94:The street in which the hotel was located was very unattractive. There was no sign to indicate a hotel. The decoration was not to our taste, although it would probably have suited Liberace.

Review 95:Huge room and bathroom and pretty garden. Helpful staff and fairly good breakfast. Very clean.

Review 96:loose chippings in parking area, nearly came off my motorcycle.

Review 97:the biology student working there greeted us on arrival and he was so nice and full of information for us. location was excellent. our en-suite was exceptional. the coffee machine was a plus. the garden especially the avenue of trees.

Review 98:Our room was elegantlyl appointed but, because it was in the eaves of the house, was not entirely practical. The sliding door of the room was difficult to open and close.

Review 99:The staff were charming and very attentive. The atmosphere was very calm and welcoming. The location was perfect and the house and garden lovely.

Review 100:Nothing really

Review 101:It's a guest house set in 10 acres and a lovely garden. Huge rooms in this stately home. It's only been running for about 3 months but I really enjoyed my stay

Review 102:No complaints as any problems are quickly dealt with by excellent, efficient and very friendly staff.

Review 103:More like staying in a private house than a hotel, guests enjoying breakfast on one big table thus meeting and socialising.Madames evening soirees a highlight.A memorable stay. Thanks to all.

Review 104:Poor Wifi reception It is still being completed, they need to have things like suitcase stands. I don't understand why the French do not put doors on showers

Review 105:Beautiful Place Easy walking to Town Very friendly and helpful staff, went out of their way to get a special breakfast

Review 106:I would have liked drink making facilities in the room. The renovations are work in progress. Didn't bother us at all as the place and staff are charming however this might bother some. It needs a hotel sign outside as there is currently no indication that you have arrived! It could do with some soft furnishings to absorb sound.

Review 107:The staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful. The grounds are superb with a beautiful French garden, a most unusul asset so close to the centre of town. The building itself is lovely with many period features retained. The renovations are being carried out to a high standard. The location is convenient to all of the major attractions of Bayeux. The breakfast was really excellent

Review 108:Our bathroom was a bit small, but very well equipped. There was no top sheet on our bed, only a heavy comforter (too hot for warm weather). But this seems to be the norm in Europe these days and is easily remedied by removing the comforter from the duvet and using the duvet as a sheet. The pillows were not the quality I am used to and there was only one per person on our king-size bed. However, the staff was very quick to provide another when asked.

Review 109:The staff was amazing - always wanting to go the extra mile to make our stay more enjoyable. The breakfast was extensive and delicious - many house-baked pastries as well as fruits, hot dishes, most anything you would want. The grounds are lovely and the location can't be beat for walking to dinner, Tapestry Museum, and Cathedral. We drove a car and the parking was off-street and free-of-charge. All in all, a beautiful property. I hope to return some day!

Review 110:We spent 2 nights here and were very surprised that a place of this standard does not make beds and freshen towels each day! Breakfast was very difficult with not enough seating for the amount of guests and was badly thought out with everything put on the table, making it hard to try things which weren't directly by your seat. The staff showed little interest. Such a shame because the rooms are of good quality but the service lets it down dreadfully.

Review 111:Location - superb, within walking distance of Bayeux city centre.

Review 112:Nathan, the concierge, was fantastic and extremely friendly. He always made sure we had everything we needed and was happy to provide us with advice on things to do or places to eat. The house was lovely and the room was fabulous. We'll definitely be back!

Review 113:Was a little cold in the room

Review 114:Gorgeous rooms and decor

Review 115:No elevator, and 3rd floor room.

Review 116:The location, the staff, the visit - all unbelievable!

Review 117:Very nice people, friendly reception. Good parking. Virtually in the town centre, but very quiet. Great internet.

Review 118:Poor Breakfast

Review 119:Nice bed

Review 120:Friendl, helpful staff

Review 121:Nothing

Review 122:We were made to feel very welcome. The room was excellent, staff very friendly and the breakfast first class.

Review 123:Some rooms a little small

Review 124:location was great, the bathroom was wonderful and the staff was friendly and accomodating

Review 125:Unique and beautiful hotel. Very professional and kind staff.

Review 126:Nothing was in walking distance. Room was noisy from other guest noise.

Review 127:Nice old house.

Review 128:The bed was awful!! Not a warm and welcoming place to stay.
