Reviews for Troglododo

Review 1:The position of the hotel is unusual if not unique, well away from roads and fashioned out of centuries-old cave dwellings. Much of the work has been done by the present owner who was born there and whose parents still live there.

Review 2:Fantastic room exactly as it appears on the Internet .In fact in reality it is better. Breakfast was really good...presentation and quality was excellent.

Review 3:Very cool to stay in a cave. Owner had outstanding customer service. Room was clean and comfortable. You can tell they really care about the guest experience. Breakfast was great.

Review 4:The cave was very humid and cool. The internet access was only available by the network. It was a little bit hard to handle it. There were no tv-channels. We took a look at the breakfast choice and decided to eat in the city.

Review 5:The idea to sleep in a cave. We could park on top of the hill and go down to the room with a lift. it is very quiet. Its a pity, that the castle Azay le Rideau is under construction at the moment and you can barely see something.

Review 6:Only very minor matters; The wifi was fairly useless but that problem was being addressed and we all felt that we didn't want to start each breakfast with a piece of cake.

Review 7:Despite being in Trog caves the whole site is modern and appealing, each room unique and charming. Our hosts were very welcoming, attentive and offered good advice. Ten mins walk to Azay le Rideau, which has a lot to offer and within a short drive there are chateaux, restaurants, markets, rivers, gardens. I recommend the Maurice Dufresne Museum only a couple of km away.

Review 8:There were two groups of us. One had a cave which they loved for its quirkiness. The other had a 'normal' room which was large and well-equipped

Review 9:Nothing at all to say against Troglododo!!

Review 10:The rooms we saw were all very individualistic, with our own being very comfortable, and with its own terrace overlooking the valley.

Review 11:We were so in love with this place! The rooms are gorgeous and ours had a huge tile bathroom with many windows. The bedroom had a wood floor, sitting chairs, a writing desk, and a large comfortable bed overlooking a small tv/computer with internet. Lots of windows look out onto little patios covered in plants - it's like the secret garden! Breakfast was a buffet affair complete with cheese, breads, cakes, mousse, coffee, juice, and dry cereals. The host was incredibly kind and helpful, we had a lovely time and wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 12:Fabulous setting, with private courtyards, clever design, excellent quality fittings in room. Very helpful owners who even drove us to train station. Delicious and very generous breakfast. Best wifi connection for our 3 weeks in France. Wish we could have stayed longer. Tea and coffee facilities were appreciated.

Review 13:..fluffier towels!?

Review 14:Captain cave man..anyone! Cats Friendly welcome Low key & family run Styling & decor..layered individual seating areas Home made breakfast Relaxed / attentive balance Sense of fun about place Great location..in itself & stopover for dordogne area Fabulous views Private parking Etc..etc..etc..

Review 15:Very confusing how to get into the place! Could do with a few signs. As it was a cave, we found it a bit damp. Did not sleep very well as bed felt damp and so were our clothes in our bags. There was a dehumidifier in the room however so probably should have put it on!

Review 16:We were traveling on bikes so were grateful for the lift. The rooms have a lot of character and are nice and roomy. Alain was a wonderful host, he very kindly drive us into town for dinner. Wonderful breakfast - best brioche I have ever had. Nice peaceful setting.

Review 17:Not much! - perhaps complimentary toiletries would be a nice touch

Review 18:Accomodation is a wonderful surprise - hidden gems Delightful hosts - made us very welcome & breakfast al fresco excellent Within walking distance of Azay Le R and found 2 excellent restaurants. An intriguing & different stop-over

Review 19:The place and especially our room was under construction. On arrival there was a strong smell of chalk paint that we could remove by opening the window, however, in parts of the room the smell of mold appeared instead and there were damp spots under the paint - not promising for the future. The room we had was not ready for inhabitation. Also some impractical thing having the toilet so close to the bed. We had great expectations but were disappointed this time.

Review 20:The place is special and the rooms are by all means not ordinary built into caves on a hillside. Definitely different but also problematic.

Review 21:No TV in room (not normally a problem, but the World Cup was on while we were there!)

Review 22:Nice size room, well decorated and clean. The secluded outdoor seating area was a bonus. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Dog friendly. Walking distance from town with its castle and bars / restaurants.

Review 23:Size and comfort of room, great ambience.

Review 24:Everything, very comfortable bed, great bathroom, great location

Review 25:Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and a delicious breakfast in a charming village

Review 26:If you want a good room and a good ville to know Vale du Loire, this is the place. Alan and his family will treat you as somebody from the family.

Review 27:nothing to mention...but breakfast was very simple for the cost

Review 28:i liked the rooms and the owners of the hotel..very pleasant and welcoming.

Review 29:Everything

Review 30:nothing

Review 31:beautiful rooms, amazing location and great recommendation for dinner

Review 32:Every restaurant was closed 25 december

Review 33:Room

Review 34:Limited WIFI, and I thought breakfast could have been included as it was continental.

Review 35:Location and it was a unique idea as a cave for a hotel.

Review 36:..mmm?

Review 37:Being a peripatetic troglodyte..

Review 38:Difficult to find, a little isolated, not central to Loire views

Review 39:All good

Review 40:The unique experience of staying in a cave house. The effort put into access by the owners. Friendly hosts and a welcome drink.

Review 41:If arriving after dark, best to have a flashlight. somewhat confusing as to where/how to go about checking in and not much lighting.in the lot or entry way till movement sensored.

Review 42:Very charming place.. comfortable, clean, lovely area, room very nicely decorated. Staff very pleasant and friendly.

Review 43:The room we stayed in was set into the cliff - it was a typical cave dwellers room, but modernised with new technology - the lighting was great - and a lovely bathroom. Even though the weather was damp and gloomy the cave was warm and cosy and very romantic. I would recommend this lovely place to everyone.

Review 44:Nothing.

Review 45:This is a very special place. Sleeping in a well-appointed cave was unusual, charming, comfortable and (welcome during a heatwave) cool. Beautiful bijou-garden setting, with interior design reflecting artistic flair of Alain, the very obliging and helpful host, who also served a superb breakfast. We would have disliked carrying our bags back up to the car parking space higher up the cliff, had not the Alain volunteered to do it for us. Apparently he is planning to install a lift within the next year.

Review 46:This place is amazing - the rooms are luxurious (we especially loved the Victoria room, with its massive bathroom and shower), Alain is the most genial and interesting host. Breakfast is full of homemade treats - and good coffee! This is essentially a family home/estate which has been lovingly restored. The area and the town of Azay-le-Rideau are very beautiful, and convenient for visting wine producers too.

Review 47:We arrived late in the day, well after the sun set, and had troublefiguring out where our room was as the reception office was alreadyclosed. Was a bit frustrating but eventually we ran into (intruded upon)another guest who helped us locate our room. Not really thelodging's fault, we should have arrived sooner or made arrangementsahead of time where we'd need to go.

Review 48:The rooms are unique and unlike what you'll find almost anywhereelse, they are fairly spacious for the type of rooms you get to stay inand a real treat that takes you on a journey through time. The groundsthe place is is also lovingly cared for and is a lovely sight firstthing in the morning as well.
