Reviews for Château de la Ferrière

Review 1:Location, beautiful chateau with stunning grounds. Owner treated you like a special guest was very knowledgeable of area, gave good recommendations. Overall fun experience.

Review 2:We felt like aristocrats living in our own chateau. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and an interesting person. We felt like personal guests in a home, rather than B and B customers.

Review 3:Most of all, the chateau and its gardens were gorgeous. The owners and staff were warm and extremely helpful. Breakfast was elegantly served and included fresh fruit as well as tasty baked goods.

Review 4:We liked absolutely everything - nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and as the book on chateaux states - "we arrived as guests and left as friends".

Review 5:Beautiful and charming chateau with spacious rooms. Owners are delightful. Breakfast was excellent. Location is so lovely that one may not want to leave the property, but landing beaches and Bayeaux are close by.

Review 6:Grounds and rooms are beautiful. We loved meeting Jeffrey, the owner, the first night of our stay and sharing a glass of wine with him. We also loved Ipa, Julia and Lala - their dogs. Breakfast was beautiful and tasted great! Service was fantastic!

Review 7:A charming and very helpful host and a pleasant staff. Great recommendations on routes to take, dinner suggestions and handling of reservations. Lovely, spacious room and bath. Beautiful setting.

Review 8:Not a single thing disappoints at Chateau de la Ferriere.

Review 9:This was one of the most welcoming, well thought lodging accommodationsa at which I have ever stayed. Geoffrey was an incredible host who thought of everything . His taste is impeccable right down to his restaurant recommendations. I plan on returning!

Review 10:Nothing

Review 11:The old chateau and grounds were absolutely wonderful. Perfectly located between Bayeux and Arromanche sur Mere. Our spectacular room was the Blue Room. Baron Geoffrey and Pietro were as friendly and charming as you will find. Dans ce chateau tous etaient parfait! Probably the loveliest place we have ever stayed. We paid in advance and are glad we did.

Review 12:We felt welcomed to the chateau. Our hosts were attentive and helpful, providing excellent suggestions for local restaurants and activities. The room and amenities were lovely, and the grounds were restful after a long day of sightseeing. The breakfasts were generous. The three resident dogs were friendly, well-behaved and fun to watch.

Review 13:Loved the setting of the chateau. Rural but not so far from town center. Our hosts went out of their way to see to our comfort. The other guests were delightfully entertaining.

Review 14:Everything promised was delivered so well and everything including changing a restaurant time for us when we arrived late was done immediately offering us drinks before we went on to eat.

Review 15:Host was very helpful in choosing destinations and routes. When we bought ourselves a picnic supper, he set a lovely table for us in the sitting room. The chateau is very convenient for Bayeux, D-Day beaches and many gardens. Close enough to Mont St Michel for a day trip.

Review 16:Beautiful, historic venue close to town but far from the crowds. Perfect location to explore the DDay beaches then relax in the evenings. Wonderful hospitality made this one of the highlights of our month-long European vacation. The breakfasts exceeded any we had in Paris or Rome.

Review 17:Everything was wonderful. Wish we had stayed at this location all week!

Review 18:The chateau was more beautiful than we thought it would be. Jeffrey was very hospitable ... he and Pietro are still remodeling much of the chateau. We loved our stay; perfect location.

Review 19:That I had to leave

Review 20:The owner was friendly and helpful and the Chateau was beautiful. The room we had was exquisite; the bathroom luxurious. In the room weres bottled water and wine. In a downstairs sitting room, wine, snacks or chocolates were provided in the evening. The breakfast was ample and excellent and served on beautiful plates in an elegant room. The location of the Chateau was perfect for visiting the Normandy Landing Beaches and the town of Bayeux.

Review 21:No Kleenex (tissues) in bath. Higher quality towels would be nice as well as robe for each guest. We only had one.

Review 22:The large rooms and baths. The owners were charming and so very helpful. You felt like guests in their home. Overall excellent stay.

Review 23:I thought it was perfect! Wouldn't change a thing.

Review 24:Breakfast was amazing. Definitely the best croissants we've ever had. Beautiful and spacious room and bathroom. Wonderful host. Perfect location... I could go on for days :)

Review 25:The fact that we didn't book a longer stay! We'll be back soon!

Review 26:Welcome was warm and friendly. Wine on the front lawn was great! Made to order breakfast was superb! Value was great! We are currently in Paris in a hotel at four times the rate of Chateau de la Ferriere and it doesn't come close to the Chateau!

Review 27:Nothing!

Review 28:The beautiful gardens, open spaces and trees that is your view from the rooms that are upstairs-spacious bedrooms, newly renovated, spacious bathrooms with evey luxury you can think of! I could easily spend a lazy 7 days here if we were not tourists on a schedule-so peaceful! Lovely hosts-Geoffrey made us feel so welcome and made super delicious breakfasts.

Review 29:I had to leave. Thank you Jeffrey and Pietro, my new BFFs

Review 30:Jeffrey and Pietro are the perfect hosts. Magnificent largecomfortable room with an enormous bathroom. Great views. And the bestFrench breakfast. Fresh squeezed orange juice to perfectly cooked eggswith chives

Review 31:The bedside lights were set too low with bulbs so dim that it was impossible to read in bed. The brand new bathroom, though beautiful, was strangely uncomfortable. There is no door for privacy between bedroom and bathroom, and even more strangely, the toilet is set in its own private alcove within the bathroom but also lacks a door. The enormous bathroom window faces the grounds but lacks a curtain, thus putting your toilette in full view of unwitting voyeurs. Altogether a bathroom perfect for exhibitionists. In addition, the arrangement lacked practicality: where to put shaving gear and makeup? towels inconveniently situated, etc.

Review 32:Château de la Ferrière is a once beautiful structure that has been through historical travails but is being brought back to its former elegance by the welcoming, friendly new owners. A typical French breakfast in the elegant library on individual tables set with antique china and silver, was excellent. The lovely grounds in rural setting are very close to the important town of Bayeux as well as the to the Normandy invasion beaches and monuments. The owners’ recommended restaurant in Bayeux (L’Angle Saint Laurent) was outstanding.

Review 33:Reception on the terrace in the sun with a glass of wine. Comfortable beds Excellent breakfast with a choice of cooked breakfast. Personal service.

Review 34:Getting renewed slowly, peace by peace, so do not expect full 4 stars atmosphere

Review 35:Friendly owenr and staff. Wonderfull view of the grounds. best location for those who visit the landing beach of Normandy (in the middle of the area, few miles behind, very close to the beatiful Bayex

Review 36:Our only regret is that The Chateau de la Ferriere is not closer to our home!

Review 37:For a family who travels extensively and is very discerning, the Chateau was one of our most beautiful, authentic and exceptional experiences ever! The setting, wonderful accommodations, expansive grounds, and extremely gracious host, the Baron, as well as Julia and Hippa, turned our stay into a uniquely authentic, picture perfect memory that we will cherish for a very long time to come!!!

Review 38:Nothing at all

Review 39:Location, beds, room, breakfast (one of the best ever), very friendly personnel and landlords, lots of style, excellent host, couldn't be better

Review 40:The proprietor of the hotel was as friendly and helpful as you could ever hope for. The hotel is tucked back in the countryside, but he made everything accessible and was quick to help us find our way around. I've been to lots of different hotels across the spectrum of location and luxury and this was a truly unique experience. I really couldn't be more positive about my experience. Tip: Use Google Maps to find it

Review 41:We had an amazing time on our short stay at Chateau de la Ferriere. The chateau itself is magical, and makes you feel like you have stepped back in time! To top it off Geoffroy and Pietro are amazing hosts, who make you feel more like you are visiting friends than staying at a B&B. We can't wait to go back soon!

Review 42:My wife and I just spent three weeks in Europe. The trip was great and we stayed in first class hotels everywhere. The hospitality, warmth and love given to us by June at this wonderful French Chateau was above anything else we experienced anywhere in France, Italy or Switzerland. She made us feel like we were like family. We hated to leave. We will always remember her and how special she made us feel.

Review 43:Nothing. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Review 44:Most generous hosts you'd hope to meet. We had a room with a view of the garden and it was stunning. Very nice breakfast too. Great hosts, great place.

Review 45:Perfect location, quiet but minutes to Bayeaux and D Day beaches. Owners/hosts are fun, knowledgeable and want to make your stay memorable. Nice breakfast in a beautiful library looking out on the 35 acres of lawn and gardens.

Review 46:Nothing.

Review 47:The setting and the room perfectly fit our expectations of a French Chateau. We had a very warm greeting and the breakfast was a delight.

Review 48:Everything Gracious host and staff . Recommend highly .

Review 49:A little too quiet. Would have been nice to have music in background during breakfast etc.

Review 50:Breakfast excellent. Closeness to town and restaurants

Review 51:The property was amazing and the staff couldn't have been nicer! We loved it.

Review 52:Our hosts were very friendly and the chateau was beautiful. The location is excellent only 2km out of Bayeux.

Review 71:overall very good but expensive

Review 72:An authentic French experience. Geoffrey was a delightful host, breakfast was excellent and the chateau is well situated for the D -Day beaches and for Bayeux and it's environs.

Review 73:Leaving.

Review 74:So friendly. Even though they do not do evening meals I was fed a light supper of smoked salmon and French cheese. After a 18 hour working day this was very much appreciated. Looking forward to going back with my wife. Thank you Geoffrey.

Review 75:The road to the chateau was a bit in need of work

Review 76:The spacious room with a lovely view of the garden was a wonderful oasis operated by most welcoming hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

Review 77:Nothing. Everyone & everything just fitted the setting perfectly

Review 78:Geoffrey was great fun. From the first greeting to sitting with us to share a glass of wine & nibbles ( complementary on arrival) to arranging meals/ taxis nothing was to much trouble. The Chateau setting is fabulous. We will return.

Review 79:staff and owners were terrific, they made us feel very much at home, and treated us wonderfully. It is a fantastic setting and a treasure to behold. 5 stars for staff, rooms, and location.

Review 80:Beautiful, antique, quiet chateau. Big rooms and renovated bathrooms. Breakfast was great. owners are extremely nice and very attentive to their costumers needs.

Review 81:We loved staying here. Beautiful place; owners are really friendly. Wish we could have spent more time there! Great location for visiting the Normandy beaches and you get to stay in a French chateau.

Review 82:Couldn't be anything we did not like because we loves everything

Review 83:Beyond our greatest expectations. Host-owner very knowledgeable about the area and all his recommendations were fabulous. Ready tomove in permanently

Review 84:Price! This was a special birthday trip so we were happy to splash out on this occasion. But if we were to return to France in the future as much as we would love to stay at the chateau again I think price may rule it out!

Review 85:The chateau is situated in a very quiet area and has fantastic gardens but it's within easy reach of all the sites we needed to visit. Rooms are fantastic and beds are so comfortable that you just don't want to get up! But the best part is that the owners greet you personally and make you feel very welcome. Their advice on where to visit and where to eat was invaluable. What a wonderful place to stay!

Review 86:Was a lovely place. The room, Chateau, staff, owners and grounds were exceptional! Can not wait to stay again!!! Don't give a second thought…book this place!!!

Review 87:The owners of the property made us feel so welcomed, we did not want to leave! The property was beautiful, ideally located for day trips exploring the D-Day beaches. All the small touches were truly appreciated. I would recommend this lovely property.

Review 88:Will wait the bikes for our next trip Everything fine

Review 89:If you tired from megapolises and crowds - welcome here No TV and wifi - just beautiful garden, birdsongs and beautiful house (small palace) The owner is very pleasant and welcoming man On the breakfast you will have fresh juse, hot croissants and fruits. The sity is very nice for walking.

Review 90:This was a perfect location for touring the Normandy area and D-Day beaches etc. This beautiful old chateau is located in the gorgeous countryside very close to the city of Bayeux so it's an easy trip to dinner, the train station, and other sights in the area. David and his partner have restored the chateau with great care and great taste! The rooms are comfortable and luxurious and a lovely breakfast awaits you every morning downstairs in the guest library (free Wifi is also available there which is a nice addition!). Can't say enough nice things about this beautiful place!

Review 91:The chateau is a unique place to stay. It's a country manor house that has been beautifully decorated in a period fashion with sumptuous wall paper, drapes, antiques and fascinating paintings, sculpture and objets d'art. You aren't staying in a museum, though, but rather a country house that feels lived in. It's authentic, not Disney-esque. The grounds are lovely and your host, David, is charming and interesting to talk with. He kindly made dinner reservations for us and we enjoyed a glass of champagne and conversation with him before dinner. Wifi is available in the guest drawing room.

Review 92:Spotty Wifi

Review 93:If what you are looking for is an authentic old chateaux experiencedon't miss an opportunity to stay here. Host is very accommodating, nice breakfast, and a relaxing countryside location away from the hustleand bustle of Bayeux, but only a few of kilometers from town center.

Review 94:We were extremely well received and the host gave us excellent advice on where to go and eat.
