Reviews for Santuario San José
Review 1:Very poor wifi connection, in fact I never did get on line even though the router was on the wall just outside my room.
Review 2:A very attractive place lot's of character.
Review 3:Breakfast a bit chaotic and a little basic, but not bad. Safe not bolted in.
Review 4:Comfortable firm beds. Aircon works.Close to town centre but not noisy..Been here before and came back.
Review 5:Nothing. Everything perfect.
Review 6:Great staff. Great breakfast. Quiet nights. Perfect location. Fast free internet. Very clean room. Nice atmosphere. You can feel very welcome.
Review 7:Our reservation indicated we would have a terrace, but our room, which was very small, (not even room for a chair) only had a small balcony
Review 8:Very conveniently situated and located in interesting old building
Review 9:Room is a bit outdated but we were hardly in it so doesn't really matter much.
Review 10:Lovely staff. So polite and helpful. They even remembered me from the year before. They always have a smile on their face and put up my with bad Spanish! its because of the staff that I went back this year. Also the location is ideal - near the supermarket and bakery. And only a minute walk or so to the bus stop for Monsul. We almost stayed at another hotel as it had a pool but the location and staff made us change our mind.
Review 11:This is a lovely small hotel just off the Main Street. We enjoyed our stay last year so much that we booked again and we're not disappointed. Lovely room, friendly staff (though English a bit limited), and great breakfast. Will be back next year.
Review 12:All I can suggest to improve an already fantastic place is free, large bottles of mineral water - we had that in our cheaper hotel in Almeria
Review 13:The beauty of the hotel outside and inside, the helpfulness of the staff and its very central location.
Review 14:nothing.
Review 15:breskfast was great and very well priced. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is perfect for San Jose, a couple blocks from town beach and restaurants and close to the road out to the spectacular beaches.
Review 16:All was fine!
Review 17:Good location, only 200 m from beach. Noce room with balcony and seaview (2nd floor). Friendly staff, very quiet (off-season in mid-March).
Review 18:Nothing.
Review 19:The included breakfast was fantastic. The location was great and the staff very friendly with good suggestions of places to go and where to eat. It was a very comfortable and great place to stay.
Review 20:- The hot water situation was never fixed, and on check-out no discount was offered for that. I requested one, but was denied. I wasn't impressed at all by that approach.- Standard twin room was very basic, a little too basic for the price.
Review 21:Some of the staff were excellent, and on reporting the no hot watersituation they said it would be looked into.
Review 22:It would have been good if the bar had been open during our stay.
Review 23:Friendly staff all aspects of the hotel were good and would definitely stay there again.
Review 24:As one needs a car to visit other villages and playas some designated parking would be helpful. As we are a bit older than when we first stayed with you a lift would be highly advantageous!! Or maybe a ground floor bedroom
Review 25:The friendly no fuss hospitality and the excellent breakfast. The exceptionally convenient situation giving the opportunity to enjoy San Jose without the need for a car.
Review 26:Wifi wasn't working well in the room.
Review 27:Breakfast was very nice. Good coffee and variety of food. Room was small but comfy. Fairly clean. Parking was easy. Good location, very close to the main beach.
Review 28:Bit of confusion over what type of room we had booked
Review 29:Lovely place, good choice of food, good Spanish breakfast,
Review 30:Fantastic stay with wonderful staff.

Review 35:Very friendly staff
Review 36:Welcoming staff, spacious room with balcony, wonderful breakfast. Own parking if there's no place in the street.

Review 38:Hotel, staff, location
Review 39:No bacon and sausages at breakfast
Review 40:Clean, quiet place
Review 41:Access to WiFi was so bad I had to sit on the stairs under the router to get reception
Review 42:Staff, hotel, food

Review 47:Good place, nice rooms, delicious breakfast and helpful staff. Deserves more then 2 stars!
Review 48:Friendly staff and a central location.
Review 49:Great location, very clean, kind, caring staff. brilliant breakfast!!!
Review 50:Location Breakfast Staff Cleanliness
Review 51:Excellent breakfast Vera friendly staff Nice terrace
Review 52:Advertised as having restaurant and bar but not available after September.
Review 53:Friendly staff Good location for all amenities
Review 54:Bed was a bit hard.
Review 55:Convenient location, helpful staff, good breakfasts.
Review 56:A quiet location near the beach and resort centre. The staff were always helpful and unobtrusive
Review 57:No elevator
Review 58:Location Clean Good bathrooms
Review 59:A little noisy. with breakfast they could restock the tortilla
Review 60:Very friendly staff, nice big room, lovely breakfast
Review 61:excellent place, clean room, convenient location. friendly staff, nice breakfast. recommended!
Review 62:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly despite us speaking no Spanish. The room was clean and comfortable and had a useful safe box, and given the temperature, air conditioning and a fridge. The balcony had a wonderful view. Breakfast was excellent. We will certainly be back!
Review 63:Nothing really but the beds were rather hard.
Review 64:The Spanish decor and stylish interior. Everywhere was very clean and the staff (particularly the senora who served breakfast), couldn't do enough for you. Would definitely return.
Review 65:Great location, very laid back. Not luxury, but relaxed, clean, and convenient. Away from the hustle and bustle of the center, but a nice stroll up the beach for whatever you want.
Review 66:Four star quality at a two star price. The best hostal we have ever stayed at - friendly and helpful staff, very nice building with high quality decorations and furnishing and excellent breakfasts.
Review 67:extreme elasticity with the booking, I was able to check out at 7 pm because no one was going to sleep there in the following night. Also for breakfast, extreme flexibility with schedules. Brilliant and strategic location. Typical and good looking interior design
Review 68:There was nothing that we did not like.
Review 69:The friendly hardworking staff did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable and we cannot praise them enough. By UK standards this is certainly more than a hostal. It is spotlessly clean and comfortable and well located in a quiet street just a few yards from the centre of San José and we had no problem parking on the street right outside the hotel. It is obvious that great care has been taken to maintain El Santuario to the highest standard with well kept gardens and terraces and tasteful decoration and furnishing throughout. We were on the second floor and had a view across the village to the sea. On arrival Tatyana explained that there wasn't a lift and if we were unhappy at being on the second floor we could move to another room, however we were perfectly happy where we were. The room and bathroom were spacious with a comfortable bed, TV, a small fridge and plenty of hot water. Wifi reception was good and free. There is a large, communal lounge just off the reception area if you want to chill in a comfy chair or sofa, watch the large screen TV or use the PC. For breakfast there was fresh bread and croissants (which can be toasted), cereals, jams, honey, tomato and oil, a selection of cold meats and cheese, freshly fried eggs on request, yogurt, fresh fruit, magdalenas, tea, coffee and juice...and also delicious arroz con leche on some mornings. We were there out of season so obviously it was quiet but there were still sufficient shops, bar, cafes and restaurants open and San José makes an excellent base from which to explore Cabo de Gata-Nijar and to do some hiking and cycling. We have no hesitation in recomending El Santuario de San José and it was certainly excellent value for money; when walking around the village we saw one or two 4 star hotels but we could not imagine what more they might offer which would make them better than El Santuario and undoubtedly we would love to return.
Review 70:Everything was good, only the fridge hardly worked at all.
Review 71:Tatjana who takes so well and warmly responsibility for the guests spoke apart from Spanish Russian, it made me feel even more at home in this beautifully designed and comfortable homely hotel. I would highly recommend to go to this hotel, but better to have car, few buses out of season, all via Almeria, 45 min. by bus.
Review 72:Poor breakfast! (Except the coffee)
Review 73:Great owner who goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable, verygood wifi! Very clean hotel and well equiped rooms. Good coffee atbreakfast. 40 euro's for a doubleroom incl breakfast is a goodprice. We reccomend this hotel.
Review 74:A very tastefully furnished hotel, extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming staff, high quality breakfast, exceptional value for money. The restaurant was also excellent and offered a varied menu with many local specialities - the quality of the food, service and ambience was exceptional: we had paid the same or higher prices elsewhere for a much lower quality experience.
Review 75:Our room was a bit musty. I didn't bother to complain as the hotel was quite full and I didn't think it worth the effort. They may well have moved us if I had.
Review 76:A nice hotel in a great location. We went in peak peak season, so it seemed a bit pricey, but it is in a good spot - convenient but quiet.
Review 77:We arrived to find twin beds and a room that smelled of cigarette smoke. We tried to switch rooms but they were unable to accommodate. The twinbeds were kind of funny as this was a honey moon trip but the smokesmell was unpleasant. Oh, and I feel like I should mention the plasticgreen houses that litter the landscape of Almeria Province-- they are abit depressing but definitely necessary for Spain's economy. Onceyou pass them and enter the natural park it is gorgeous.
Review 78:The location is excellent- it's right near the beach and severalgreat seafood restaurants. The tourist information booth is also closeby as well as a bakery and small grocery store (perfect for packing apicnic for the beach!) If you are feeling adventurous, there arebeaches in Cabo de Gata that are only accessible by foot about a halfhour drive away.
Review 79:The mattresses and the pillows were terrible, I went home with a very sore back afte almost no sleep.
Review 80:Very good location. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 81:Having to leave
Review 82:Everything was astonishingly good. Although not many of the staff speak English they are very accommodating and helpful if you have a query. The breakfasts are wholesome and varied with everything you could need and expect. Whilst not overly large the bedrooms are very clean and comfortable, toiletries are provided daily and the mini fridge and free safe are a real bonus. The half board option proved very good value for money. The food served by excellent staff, in particular Yana, was interesting and hot. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone here and 2 stars does not do it justice. San Jose is a great little resort with great tapas.
Review 83:This accommodation is called a "Hostel" but don't let that put you off, it's lovely. We asked the staff why it's not a "Hotel" and were told it's because it doesn't have a lift. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent as was the staff.
Review 84:Restaurant closed until later in the season.
Review 85:Lovely hotel in perfect location. Balcony with sea view. Good breakfast.Close to good restaurants and delightful beaches.
Review 86:Not much. Consider this hotel to offer truly good value.
Review 87:We chose this hotel because the on line reviews were quite good. Ourstay confirms this impression. Quiet albeit small but comfortable rooms.Proximity to beaches was excellent. Breakfasts were very good.
Review 88:Excellent attentive staff service for a hotel that is budget to mid-range. Rooms and public spaces are kept very clean. Excellent coffee at breakfast
Review 89:Some reviews say parking but there is none apart from the road outside which must get busy in the summer. No restaurant open in hotel and to eat before 8.30 in evening need to go to the port area.
Review 90:We stayed in May and fairly quiet but can image being more noisy in the summer months. Lovely having breakfast in a sunny courtyard.
Review 91:- The place San José was a bit disappointing. - We didn't like cabo the gata very much because it was more like a desert than a forest.
Review 92:+ Staff was extremely friendly. + Very clean. + Fridge in room. + Wifi in room. + Breakfast superb. + Private parking space (6 places for 28 rooms) and on street parking very easy. + Try for a room with balcony, it's worth it. + would definitely recommend this luxurious hostal.
Review 93:This is the second time we've stayed in the Hostal Santuario in thelast 2 years. San José is a fantastic little town in Cabo de GataNational Park, and definitely the place to stay! You have easy access tothe park for trekking, beach, etc., but also you find yourself in alively little town. The hotel has an incredible location in the centerof the town, only a minute walking from shops, restaurants andbars...and only two minutes walking to the beach. We (again) asked for aroom on the second floor with a balcony, and these rooms have views ofthe sea, as well as the beautiful mountains in the park. The breakfastis incredible! The selection is so huge, it's almost impossible todecide what to eat. The staff is also extremely friendly, and willing tohelp with any questions. We go to Cabo de Gata/San José every Easterholiday, and this is our new home there!
Review 94:The hotel was central, easy reach of beach. Very clean with helpful staff, not all speak English. Allthough a seaside resort we had gone primarily for countryside around and spotting migrating birds.
Review 95:Wonderful hotel, beautifully, simply and tastefully decorated, very helpful patron and excellent breakfasts. Location ideal for San Jose beach and for Cabo de Gata area.
Review 96:For a small hotel it had all the comfort, ambience and decor of a high-end boutique hotel. Even though we did not manage to eat in their restaurant, the menu and the setting looked fantastic. Literally a very short walk to the beach and in certain rooms you could just glimpse the sea, we were lucky to have one of those rooms. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. Will definitely return!
Review 97:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The room was very clean. In fact the Hotel was very clean. The food in the restaurant was excellent. If we every go to San Jose again we would certainly stay at Santuario
Review 98:No lift. Carrying cases up and down two floors a bit of a challenge.
Review 99:Friendly, efficient service and immaculately clean. Comfortable room, the fridge was very welcome.
Review 100:Nothing but to be really picky, there was no decent mirror, only one over the bathroom basin which was poorly lit.
Review 101:The bedroom was very well appointed with a tv, fridge and hairdryer. We had a balcony which was a pleasant place to sit. The dining terrace was the best place to eat in the town and the breakfasts were excellent.
Review 102:No chairs in the room to sit on, only the bed. Our room didn't have a balcony. The shower was a bit cheap as the curtain was held up by plastic piping and fishing line.
Review 103:Very convenient to the center of San Jose and close to the beach.
Review 104:The doors are really noisy. The sounds of people entering and exitingtheir room throughout the night and early in the morning is annoying. The beds are also a bit hard.
Review 105:Location in particular was amazing. Wi-fi didn't really workunfortunately, despite being advertised. But there was a computer in thelobby that was available to use and there was never a wait to use it.Breakfast was great! Great value and location!
Review 106:Really impressed with everything about this so called hostel.I Stay inthis location every year and have stayed in the 4star hotel nearby andin all honesty I prefer this hostel .top rate for cleanliness andlocation.I Also enjoyed the fact that there were tables outside whereyou could eat which is rather important to Brits. There isn't a pool asone of it' neighbours has but all in all this was the better option.IWould deffinatley book there again.
Review 107:This hotel is all you could ask for - if you simply want a clean, friendly and central base from which to explore Cabo da Gata. We were attracted by a very reasonable room rate for staying at the hotel in early June, which is just before the season really starts. Only stayed for one night and left the area the day after, but enjoyed it and very much recommend it. Quiet, hospitable and right in the heart of San Jose town. Oh, and 5-10 minutes drive to the beautiful beaches just outside town as well!
Review 108:Some difficulty with fluency in english but it did not really interferewith the quality of our stay
Review 109:The hostal was absolutely adorable - the overall design/decor, thefurniture, plants, the cleanliness, the friendliness of staff, thebreakfast.
Review 110:Not a lot but there were a few small disappointments. One was that thewi-fi did not work (not a big problem if you want to relax in San Jose)and the other was that the restaurant was closed (again, no big problemwhen San Jose is full of places to eat).
Review 111:I thought the Hotel was nicely designed and the included breakfast wasvery satisfying. It's literally a 30 second walk from San Jose's mainstreet and the rooms were fine.
Review 112:Absolutely nothing! We loved it! Thanks!
Review 113:The location of the hotel is fantastic! On the corner of the "main street" of San José, and 3 minutes walking to the beach. When we arrived, we were impressed by the patio and lobby. We asked the guy at check-in if a room with a balcony was possible, and he put us in a fantastic room on the second floor (room 213) with a fabulous view of the mountains and the sea. The room's furnishings aren't super modern, but still quite nice with lots of storage. The bathroom was nice, and also large. The breakfast room/restaurant is very nice, and the selection is great for a couple of days. And finally, the staff is super! Everyone is helpful and cheerful. This will definitely our new home in San José/Cabo de Gata!
Review 114:awsome!! it's clean, it's cheap and they are kind and professional. Modern, confortable and they have wi fi, free parking and the place around is simply fantastic! large breakfast included, very tasty!
Review 115:Hotel restaurant was closed, not suprising considering it was low seasonand they only had few guests staying in We found nice place at the endof a row of restaurants along the beach (near port) called Mediterraneo(blue and white) Charming English speaking owner and fantastic food Lotsof english customers at the bar
Review 116:Very very nice hotel! Clean with comfortable bed and small fridgeFriendly nice staff excellent location just few minutes walk from thebeach and restaurants Simple but really tasty breakfast with as manycappucinos as desired Very good value for money We give it 10 out of 10Highly recommended
Review 117:Good location on a side street, close to everything, excellent staff, good breakfast buffet
Review 118:No garden or pool
Review 119:Very clean Good breakfast Friendly and helpful staff Quiet hotel slept very well
Review 120:Bed was a bit hard for me.
Review 121:Location was fine, center and beach within walking distance. Staff very kind and helpfull.
Review 122:Characterful hostel, with friendly staff, well located in the centre of the town and just a short walk to bars and restaurants
