Reviews for Churchill Hotel

Review 1:The manager, Eric is fantastic. He speaks very good English. This hotel is right in the heart of mid evil Bayeux. Full of historical pictures and artifacts. We both loved this hotel and Bayeux. Close drive to Omaha Beach.

Review 2:The only issue was a leaky soap dispenser in the bathroom was a little jarring given the overall high quality of our stay.

Review 3:Hotel Churchill is perfectly located in the heart of Bayeux. Service and advice on restaurants very good. Breakfasts were fine - a well put together continental breakfast included cold cuts and hard boiled eggs.

Review 4:Bed and breakfast in town, has bigger rooms with comfortable chairs to sit in, better breakfast which was included for almost half the price. Wi-Fi didn't reach the 2nd floor rooms.

Review 5:Very friendly, helpful staff.

Review 6:I would have liked a couple comfortable chairs in the room, rather than sitting on the bed . Abit noisy when pepole come to the room in the evening but was not a major proble. If they were to post a small sign at the bottom of the stairsduring the evening hours that would likely help.

Review 7:The location to the d day beaches. The hotel was nicely decorated.

Review 8:My wife and I aren't very tall people, under 6', nor are we over weight yet the shower was kind of small even for us.

Review 9:The hotel was like a mini WWII museum which really set the tone for our D-Day tour the following day. It was conveniently located near the coast and within a few minutes walk to meet our tour guide.

Review 10:The staff should have just wisked our friends baggage to their room. They had ridiculously heavy suitcase but it was difficult to get them up the twisting staircase. But, the staff would have done it had they asked.

Review 11:I selected the hotel from an online review. It was a memorable choice. The hotel was quaint and charming. It was clean, the staff was helpful and the location to Montmartre and the Beaches was ideal.

Review 12:The room was drab. It was clean, but not really cozy. No hot water in the morning either. My wife got a shower that was cold and I didn't take a shower.

Review 13:The location was fine. The town is so small, though, it's not really a factor. As long as your in the town, your good. It was nice for our meeting place for the tour in the morning. The manager/owner was great. Really nice to meet them.

Review 14:Hotel Churchill was our favorite stay while in France! (We visited three other cities). The hotel was clean, cozy, and safe and the staff members were very friendly and helpful. Daniel even made a call for us to rent a car. It was very much appreciated! If we ever visit Bayeux again we will certainly be back!

Review 15:The only available decaf coffee at breakfast was instant - it's a minor detail but every other cafe I visited in France had proper decaf filter coffee or espresso. The shower was more tepid than hot.

Review 16:Great room. Very charming helpful staff. Free wifi worked a treat. Parking was nearby and inexpensive.

Review 17:Our WiFi was very slow. Also, it was very chilly while we were there and we didn't realize the first night that we had to ask to have the heat turned on.

Review 18:We stayed in a quadruple room which gave us plenty of room for the four of us. The breakfast was very good and included cheese, meats and eggs, you do have to pay for it which is typical. The staff was very accommodating, they held our luggage until our room was ready and then moved our bags into it for us. The lobby was quite lovely and had lots of interesting memorabilia. Hotel is centrally located in a great location and tucked back off the street. Our room had a loft with a roof window where we could see the cathedral lit up at night.

Review 19:Quaint hotel in the heart of Bayeux, a fantastic jumping off point for exploring Normandy and the D-Day beaches. Very friendly staff, particularly the gentlemen who checked us in and the woman working the breakfast. Large room - almost twice the size of the room we stayed in in Paris. Easy walk to all Bayeux attractions, shops, and restaurants, as well as the tour bus/shuttles. Highly recommend staying at the Churchill Hotel.

Review 20:We read about this marvelous hotel in Rick Steve's book on France. This hotel was the perfect place to stay in the Normandy area. Besides being very centrally located, making the tours for the Normandy Beaches, U.S. Military Cemetary, and Mont St. Michel very handy, we really enjoyed this small town. We were able to walk to most of the dining and shops, visit the famous Tapestry and others. At night there was an amazing light show next to the cathedral featuring a hundred years old tree that was lit during an evening music show. The whole town came out. The staff at the Churchill, including the operator, Eric, were very helpful and friendly. Lastly, the breakfast room was delightful, cheery and very guest friendly. If we ever return to this area of France, which was beautiful, we will definitely stay at the Churchill again.

Review 21:Would be great to have tea and coffee making coffee facilities.

Review 22:Location great, staff really helpful and attentive. Our split level ground floor family room was spacious, very clean, had a walk in wetroom and overall was of a high standard.

Review 23:Bed was ok. We were on the first floor (2nd floor for Americans). No lift. If you have a problem getting your suitcase up stairs, be advised. Charming place, would go back!

Review 24:Great location, great view- room 103!

Review 25:No parking other than having to feed a meter every three hours. Great hotel but looking a little tired in places.

Review 26:Ideal location. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 27:Very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to help us have a great stay. All staff we encountered spoke English and seemed happy to do so. Charming hotel -clean comfortable rooms.. Very goodbreakfast with plenty of choices.

Review 28:Showers were continually cold even after mentioning it. Boiler temp set to low. Little overpriced for room size and no fridge.

Review 29:Location and Shuttle service to Mont Saint Michel, rooms were adequate

Review 30:A little difficult for people with luggage as there's no elevator

Review 31:awesome location, convenient for about almost everything. Most known hotel. Excellent welcoming and helpful staff

Review 32:Free long term parking a bit of a walk away.

Review 33:Pleased to find hotel had A/C in our rooms (but not hallways) during an oppressive heat wave! Central location, charming decor-lots of WWII memorabilia, friendly staff, good breakfast & excellent dinner recommendations & help with reservations.

Review 34:said they'd book a table for dinner but when they did - several hours later - it was too late. But they kept at it and we had dinner!

Review 35:enthusiastic service and help

Review 36:The location is in the heart of Bayeux. The staff was very friendly and the accommodations were excellent. This is a great choice if you want to see the Normandy beaches - tours leave a hundred yards from the hotel.

Review 37:The entire staff, from reception to breakefast help was there for everything you needed. Local directions and suggestions for what and where to go were gladly provided. The location was great, everything right outside the door in the heart of Bayeux. Language was not a problem.

Review 38:Little hot with no A/C but they had fans to help. Good location if you have car, not near anything.

Review 39:Next to beer garden, roomy for 3 with separate rooms. Good breakfast.

Review 40:Cons: pricey; breakfast extra; no tea/coffee in room; Comfortable beds, room OK but nothing special.

Review 41:Best thing about the Churchill is its great location (across the street from Tourist Information); about 15 minute walk from train station; easy walk to Cathedral. Bayeux tapestries, and D-day tour pickup spot; friendly front desk. Also, next door to grocery (Carrefour--reasonable baguettes, crossants and cheese, and ATM machine).

Review 42:The room was somewhat small for 4 people, but we expected this in an "old" hotel.

Review 43:Walking distance from train station. Comfortable beds.Quiet & relaxing location. Nicely displayed memorabilia from WWII. Friendly & helpful staff.

Review 44:The staff was excellent, the location perfect, the hotel charming. There is a grocery store next door to the hotel. Using the street address on GPS will direct you to the North side of the hotel on Rue Saint-Jean which was a pedestrian street when we visited. The hotel check-in parking is on the south side of the hotel. Public parking lots are free from 1900 to 0900. Highly recommended.

Review 45:The breakfast was crowded but quite sufficient. The step up to the bathroom.

Review 46:The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was very well located with car park just behind.

Review 47:Didnt havr proper espresso machine. Coffee not at all good. No selections of tea. I had an accident and came back in afternoon hoping for a mint tea or green tea and they onlh had one choice...english breakfast. Also no wifi in upper floors. I was on top floor so i had no wifi.

Review 48:The staff were excellent and informative and helpful . Very very kind and lovely.

Review 49:We did not like having to leave! Everything was perfect!

Review 50:We loved the staff the location and the quaintness of the hotel. It was exactly what we were looking for And absolutely worth the money. If we come back we will stay here again!

Review 51:We did not have bath towels the first night, only hand towels. The breakfast was not flexible. Buffet or nothing. Some people do not want a large breakfast.

Review 52:The hotel felt and looked new and was very clean. The staff was very professional and helpful.

Review 53:Wish we stayed longer;(

Review 54:We love the hotel and it's location. We had a great time during our short stay. We were able to experience the farmer's market just behind the hotel, so fun! Eric, the owner is so wonderful and very accommodating. He arranged our trip to Mt. St. Michelle- fabulous! The taxi driver, Benoit, who became sort of our tour guide is fantastic. We had a great time with the stories and information he gave us. We love Churchill hotel, it has a classic ambiance, old English style. All the staff were great!

Review 55:Parking was a little challenging but it worked out. Hotel parking lot is small but you can park in any of the spaces by other buildings in the general area. Access is from a side street in back and to the left of the hotel rear. Watch for signs.

Review 56:Nice in-town hotel in Bayeux which is conveniently close to a lot of things. I enjoyed the location, small grocery store with ATM right next door and tons of restaurants and shopping up and down the main street. I have never stayed at a smaller hotel and found this so appealing I would go back again.

Review 57:Staff was very friendly and helpful. The WWII pictures and memorabilia throughout the hotel were amazing. Cute little bar. Great location, easy walk to train station, tour pick ups, and restaurants. One of my favorite places!

Review 58:Hotel was in a great location and has a very helpful, friendly staff. Loved the town and the history everywhere. WWII tour was excellent but also enjoyed the museums and sites in Bayeaux.

Review 59:i didn't like having to "hang up" my key every time i left the hotel. staff were sticklers about this. and yes, they still use keys! lots of other controlling methods as well -- volume on the television wouldn't go above a certain level; same with thermostat; same with water temperature in shower (never got hot, just warm). wifi had to be signed into every 2 hours (and it was very slow).

Review 60:perfect location. steps away from the bayeux tapestry and cathedral. right off the main street (shopping, restaurants, grocery store). we were also exploring the d-day beaches while there and they were an easy drive from the hotel. parking next door. really friendly staff. very clean and comfortable and charming.

Review 61:there should be a mini bar n tea n coffee facilities in the common area of the floor

Review 62:Staff are very helpful and friendly. The room is not big, but warm and cozy. Excellent location and you will get everything you need in hotel!

Review 63:Lack of an elevator but always someone available to help with luggage. Bathroom and shower very small.

Review 64:Great location and very helpful and friendly staff

Review 65:We loved the location of the hotel. Right on the main street and accessible to many eateries, laundry mat, site seeing stops. Our Erik was just fabulous and the breakfast was top notch!!! We could not have asked for a better hotel and staff on our first visit to Normandy!!! We will be going back to the Churchill on our next visit!!!

Review 66:The coverlet could use a fresh upgrade to a crisp duvet or comforter. Bed was acceptable. Pillows were lumpy and hard to get comfortable on.

Review 67:Perfect location within this quaint, historic town. Proximity to our Normandy tour pickup. Our innkeeper was simply charming and helpful. Very ample breakfast @ 13 euros. Pristine modern bath with two sinks and separate WC.

Review 68:Rooms are small but not as small as some we experienced in France and was an excellent value for the cost.

Review 69:Wonderful staff and a tribute to the allied forces of the D-Day Landing. Full of photos, Memorabilia and even returning veterans . We used it as our base for visiting the landing beaches and loved the visiting Cathedral and seeing the tapestry. It was a lovely little town.

Review 70:The owner and his staff - friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, amusing, kind, welcoming and professional - and the owner speaks English and will help organise any trips to Beaches or elsewhere. Location is superb - right on main street which has fabulous restaurants; Cathedral and Tapestry building 5-7 mins walk out other side of hotel. Lovely room (112), decent size, incredibly comfortable pillow (rare in hotels!). Adult children next door in twin beds + shower, less spacious but clean and comfortable. Excellent simple breakfasts every day, willingly served; a well-stocked bar (didn't use but good selection of whiskies and other spirits); decor pleasant, lovely staircase at front of hotel. Owner's collection of photos and memorabilia of war is incredible and well worth very nearly a full morning's studying - up all stairs and round corridors, quite fascinating. No lifts - but who cares? I'm sure owner would help carry very heavy bags! We had no problem with "dirty carpets, mildewed smell" as others have said. The place was clean and tidy and the staff proud of their hotel. It is not a five star grand hotel, it is a charming friendly owner-run three star hotel and well worth staying in.

Review 71:Our room was so small there wasn't room to open our 2 small suitcases w/out putting one of them on the bed.

Review 72:Pleasant staff. Good location--very close to "The Tapestry". Spacious bathroom.

Review 73:No elevator and steep circular stairs to carry luggage to 3rd floor. Wi-fi didn't reach to our rooms (208 and 209) and the wi-fi codes didn't work. The front desk had to log us in using their master. Room 208 is tiny.

Review 74:Staff, breakfast, location. The staff were all very nice. The location is only a block or two from the cathedral and on the Main Street with lots of shops and restaurants. Breakfast was nice.

Review 75:NOTHING

Review 76:It was wonderful place to stay. The shower is great hated to leave that.Breakfast was good, staff very friendly, all spoke English. Hated to leave.

Review 77:Welcoming,clean,comfortable, convenient, quiet and quaint. Lovely small hotel with an equally lovely, helpul and friendly staff. Breakfast was pleantiful and good quality. Modern facilities within a traditional decor (the large shower stall and high pressure piping hot water was a pleasure at the end of long days). You have nothing to worry about when choosing the Chruchill.

Review 78:Very WWII focused as were most of the guests, mainly older Amercians doing Europe or the WWII thing.

Review 79:Central location frendly staff large room with good facilities near the Bayer Tapestry (which was the purpose of our visit)

Review 80:Parking is very close but public so you need to ensure you have a valid ticket

Review 81:Excellent location Friendly & helpful staff Very good breakfast Old WWII photographs on walls of public areas Very quiet

Review 82:Extremely tiny room with zero space to place our luggage. This was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in. The double bed sucked up about 95% of the space in the room.

Review 83:Location in the middle of town.

Review 84:Difficult getting luggage up the winding stairs.

Review 85:The location is excellent. In the heart of the village and within walking distance of the train station. The appearance is attractive. Staff is friendly.

Review 86:Staff, Daniel especially, helpful, courteous, friendly & fun. Made our stay very pleasurable. Arranged tours, recommended sites to visit, restaurants, etc.

Review 87:Carrying my baggage up 3 flights of stairs . Mildew smell of room. Dirty blankets. Only really clean room was the bathroom which was renovated and nice

Review 88:The location and shuttle to mt st Michel

Review 89:Rooms are a little small but that is not unique to the Churchill Hotel. Expensive for breakfast but the Churchill again is not unique in pricing food service.

Review 90:I thought that the staff was very helpful and willing to research any question. I really enjoyed the pictures on the walls of Allied troops during the DDay campaign. The location of the hotel was great. We were able to walk to the train depot or anywhere else.

Review 91:No real criticism. The hallway areas show some wear but no more than I have experienced in other good European hotels. The location, staff and cleanliness are the headlines for this property.

Review 92:Superb English speaking staff. Always very helpful with advice and assistance. Walking distance with a roller bag to the train station, central location in the heart of Bayeux.

Review 93:Difficult to fine in personal auto. Parking scarce. Room and bath smaller than expected. 3rd floor walk-up.

Review 94:Location excellent. Clean, quiet, convenient. Staff personable and helpful. Would recommend.

Review 95:Friendly staff especially gentleman at the front desk that welcomed us in the evening. The quaint, clean hotel was covered in amazing photographs of the war which we loved perusing. Perfect location.

Review 96:Our room was on the top floor down another small staircase. It wasdark and tiny even compared to European standards and we found 10flies inhabiting the room. We spent nearly half an hour trying toswat them out of the room but still failed When opening the window, pigeon feathers were on the roof and nearly came into the room. Myallergies kicked in at this point. Bed was okay but bedding could useeven a minor upgrade as it was very drab. It didn't seem worththe money unfortunately. The website made it sound great but it was abit of a let down.

Review 97:Location was ideal. Reception staff were very friendly.

Review 98:When you turn on the bathroom light, it also turns on the light in the sleeping area. Not a big deal, but if one guest is getting up early to shower and the other wants to sleep a little longer, it's not ideal. It wouldn't stop me from staying here again, though.

Review 99:I was traveling with my nephew and we both enjoyed the location of this hotel as well as the friendly staff. I had a lot of questions and they were happy to answer my question and help with making any arrangements we needed.

Review 100:No lift for baggage. Small bathroom space.

Review 101:Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable accommodations. Convenient location for tourist attractions and restaurants,

Review 102:Local transportation to the D-Day beaches and sites is adequate but more frequent bus schedules would really help. No reflection on the Churchill, of course.

Review 103:The exceptional customer service and excellent location earned the Churchill Hotel our highest recommendations. The staff and management really made us feel at home and were always very helpful. Thanks again to Eric and his staff for such a memorable stay.

Review 104:We'd have preferred somewhere under cover to store our bikes.

Review 105:The staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was particularly convenient. Our room was quiet and perfect for our requirements. Enjoyed the display cases and sense of history.

Review 106:Great location in the most charming town in Normandy. A destination in its own right due to the beautiful 1000 year old tapestry, Bayeux makes a great home base for touring the WWII sites of Normandy, and Hotel Churchill's character and decor gets you in the mood to visit the battlefield sites! Super friendly and attentive staff. Am bringing my parents on this exact trip next year, and I will definitely be back at the Churchill.

Review 107:The Churchill Hotel is in the centre of the charming town of Bayeux, so perfectly located to visit the Tapestry, Cathedral etc as well as within easy reach of WWII beaches, historical landmarks etc.The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel decor is charming and interesting and the room very comfortable. Highly recommended!

Review 108:Nothing really!!! Not that this anything to do with the hotel, but please note if you are flying in to the regional airport at Caen, although only a 15 minute ride it costs approx. €65.

Review 109:This hotel is in a perfect location, within easy walking distance of everything you would with to see on foot. Front desk staff (Matius) were extremely welcoming and helpful. Room for two friends sharing was of a good size and clean. Bathroom clean and good shower.

Review 110:The staff carried my suitcase up and down the narrow steps for me. Quiet location. Plenty to see nearby and locales in which to eat.Parking free overnight. Used my own pillow, so that I could sleep.

Review 111:Location was perfect, in the heart of old Bayeux and 2 minutes' walk to all the historic sites. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Rooms were not large, but were very clean, cozy, and comfortable.

Review 112:The pigeons and grounds activities (with accompanying noise) start at about 0500. Not horrible, but noticeable to the very light sleeper.

Review 113:Firm but OK beds (most in France are too firm). Great location. Mostly quiet. Very nice staff. Good buffet continental breakfast.

Review 114:dragging luggage up 3 floors of spiral staircase. Sadly tour of Mont St. Michel was not available when I was there as it was full for that day

Review 115:location, charm, clean, friendly and helpful staff. assistance with luggage and tours

Review 116:A little noisy at times early in the morning on the main street especially on the market day which was a Wednesday, no coffee or tea maker in the rooms.

Review 117:The entire township , area and the food was all good very much enjoyed the friendly people within the central township also the tour guides for the day trips were quite friendly.

Review 118:Lovely hotel. Warm, welcoming, helpful staff. Great location. Don't worry about limited parking. There's a smallish parking area outside entrance where you need to pay a few euros to park 9 am to 7 pm. Overnight 7 pm to 9 am is free. Always found a space when we needed one. Plus there's plenty of additional parking available steps away from the front entrance. Would stay there again without hesitation.

Review 119:Nothing. Very enjoyable stay at Churchill Hotel.

Review 120:Great location in center of town, 10 minute walk from the train station, and tours to Normandy were right out the front door.

Review 121:NO drawer or shelf storage for personal items, only a small closet to hang some items. No electrical outlets beside the bed...bring an extension cord!

Review 122:Location air conditioning staff upgraded bathroom in-room safe for belongings Amazing lobby and hallway pictures of the war. The owner Eric is very helpful and speaks excellent English.

Review 123:Whilst the hotels location is excellent for exploring Bayeux and the room we finally ended up in was nicely furnished and very comfortable the whole stay was somewhat spoilt by Basil, in what could only be described as a sketch from Faulty Towers. Having requested a quiet room on the first floor (having stayed at the hotel before) and having had this confirmed by email by the hotel by email arriving in the early evening we were informed that there was only a ground floor room available. After a much heated debate and where the individual concerned who I believe is the manager made several offensive comments we were finally given a choice of two rooms of which he recommended the ground floor room – which turned out to be effectively what in any other hotel would have been the front office, the door to the room was no more than 1 metre to the side of the reception desk! The other room whilst being on the first floor was far from quiet as it was at the front of the hotel overlooking the main pedestrianized area along with delivery lorries at 06.00. Then we found that the safe did not work (it simply needed new batteries), but this could not be rectified until the following day even though there was a supermarket next door meaning that we had to carry laptops, ipads etc around with us as the French system of hanging up your key when you leave the hotel is not secure. So in conclusion a very nice hotel with a great location but completely let down by a complete lack of customer service that could easily have provided a script for a certain TV comedy!

Review 124:No elevator, but that was not a problem.

Review 125:The air conditioned room was great after a long hot day of sightseeing. The double room with three beds worked well for our family of four.

Review 126:we had asked for a room with 2 beds but got a room with one large bed. and as an arsenal supporter i was given a speciallly friendly welcome by the patron, an ex-football player; so maybe tottenham fans should avoid....(but they don't know where Europe is, anyway).

Review 127:the whole team , from the boss to the night porter, is extremely helpful , knowledgeable and kind!!!

Review 128:Nothing

Review 129:A beautiful hotel in the centre of beautiful Bayeux. The staff were friendly, considerate and helpful. It was my first trip abroad and the Churchill Hotel could'nt have been more perfect to start my adventure.
