Hôtel Chateau De Sully descritpion

Strolling through the grounds of this 17th-century property with a swimming pool and elegant restaurant, it is easy to forget that you are in a hotel and not your own private residence.
After a strenuous work-out in the fitness center guests can enjoy the sauna, hot tub, and have a relaxing swim in the indoor swimming pool, whose sliding windows open out onto a stunning garden.
Château de Sully’s restaurant serves beautifully presented regional cuisine. Chef Nicolas Fages uses only fresh local produce and his delicious seafood dishes are not to be missed.
As well as the endless opportunities for outdoor activities, Château de Sully’s location is ideal for discovering Normandy’s historic sites. The World War II landing beaches and the town of Bayeux, home of the famous tapestry, are all nearby.

Reviews for Hôtel Chateau De Sully

Review 1:Sadly the access facilities were not at usable level for my wife - no hand holds in the small shower and very difficult hand basin.

Review 2:Absolutly beautiful house, superlative catering and great atmosphere. All in the beautiful Normandy countryside.

Review 3:Polite but not a warm and friendly staff. They need to work on their customer service skills. No one even thought to assist us in carrying all our luggage up the stairs to our room or assisting us when we had to change rooms due to s problem in the original room which in most hotels of this caliber is the norm. The Chateaux & Relais chain always does and they have excellent customer service.

Review 4:Very comfortable bed! Rooms a bit small but well decorated and pretty. Responded quickly when there was a problem with our room and gave us another room.

Review 5:extremely expensive for value received. at our stay at the Madrid Ritz, everything was less expensive. The decor was out of the 50's , no shower, out of town

Review 6:unique property

Review 7:Directions to find the property inadequate, we could have done with clearer directions.

Review 8:Very clean and comfortable, and excellent location for Normandy beaches etc.

Review 9:Staff was 'snooty'; We felt treated like 2nd class guests because of our booking.com reservations. First room given was very small and uncomfortable, couldn't stand up in dormer areas, including water closet! restaurant had high ratings, but we didn't enjoy our selections, and our server spoke little english we could understand. Restaurant and bar are very expensive. Cocktails over $20, and no one could mix a manhattan.

Review 10:Beautiful chateau and surroundings, perfect location for beach landings sight seeing, dining, and other touring.

Review 11:We were "upgraded" to duplex suite in spa building but it was certainly not an upgrade. Though it was two bedroom ensuite and a living room, the rooms looked like they were furnished from a garage sale. If you are staying at this hotel, I highly recommend requesting rooms in main building. Hotel was too far out-of-town to be able to do anything in Bayeux.

Review 12:Restaurant is amazing. Grounds are beautiful.

Review 13:Staff is surly and not helpful . Nobody available from 9pm to 8am every day. Third floor rooms accessed only by spiral staircases. No elevator in building. You are on your own to get luggage to and from third floor rooms when front desk is not staffed.Room was spartanly furnished--like a two star hotel.

Review 14:Good location for Normandy beaches touring

Review 15:Costly accommodation ( we referred to it as 'Shabby Chateau Chic')...... I suspect playing to the American market and it's excellent location Bayeux, Arromanches etc.

Review 16:Excellent Location;Excellent Staff; Excellent Meal.

Review 17:No porter for luggage ( I asked about it at check -out -- the receptionist offered to help, but only after I asked -- the check-in receptionist never offered. ) I had not realized that the wonderful smelling 1 star Michelin restaurant was on the property-- we were "rich, fancy food overloaded " from our week in Paris prior to coming to Bayeau--- I would loved to have dined there , but we just couldn't face it!

Review 18:Beautiful grounds-- comfortable bed -- immaculate bathroom--- Free calls to US!

Review 19:Most of the staff were very attentive except for one who was responsible for the breakfast service. She was never anywhere to be found and was snarly when she was around.

Review 20:Beautiful hotel and excellent food.

Review 21:Very, VERY stuffy!!!!! Do not go there: with kids who just like to be kids and have fun; or, if you are a "kid at heart" and would like to be even a minimally free spirit!! It will be tolerated, but, . . . ! And, if you like stuffy, this is the place for you!! But, not for me.

Review 22:Incredible ambience and setting!!! Absolutely beautiful grounds. Impeccable service. Dinner in the restaurant was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

Review 23:Last minute booking through booking.com and we invested in staying at this accommodations so that our family had a memorable night with separate rooms . Our rooms looked nothing like the photos in booking.com plus we were provided rooms that did not match our needs as a couple . No effort by staff to make our stay more comfortable or more enjoyable . Not worth the investment . Torn and worn carpeting in our rooms no assurance to our third floor room with luggage . Sad representation of the area as we had enjoyed many other locations for much less money . Not worth it disappointing

Review 24:We had trouble finding the hotel, the sign seemed to blend in. Though we called and they were helpful giving us directions.

Review 25:The hotel is located outside of town but within close distance to the D-day beaches. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed the pool, which was in a sunroom, what a nice surprise especially because the weather was cool. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, it was amazing, I would recommend it highly.

Review 26:We would prefer a room with air conditioning so that we could sleep with the windows closed. The room was a little crowded also.

Review 27:The setting was beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful despite our poor french. It is conveniently located near many war memorials.

Review 28:But because it was in the country I did find some red ants in the bed. BUT one must remember it was a COUNTRY home.

Review 29:We enjoyed our stay in the country estate. It was quiet and refreshing after a long trip.

Review 30:Breakfast should have been included in the room rate as it was expensive at 21 euro per person

Review 31:superb location, excellent accommodation friendly helpful staff, comfortable rooms and first class food and close to Bayeaux

Review 32:Chaotic service during first night's dinner and breakfast next morning - 30 minutes delay both times. Breakfast ridiculously expensive, EUR 21 for white bread, marmelade and two types of chees, eggs cooked to order, but no selection of meat. The restaurant is a 1-star Michelin, food is good and nicely presented, but not star-quality.

Review 33:The chateau is beautiful, well locted for visiting nearby cities and the Normandie beaches. Very friendly staff

Review 34:No elevator. Staff not terribly responsive. Elderly couple had to bring luggage down two flights of winding stairs without assistance. Breakfast buffet was very over-priced.

Review 35:Lovely grounds; chateau remodeled beautifully. Clean.

Review 36:Wifi is a little slow.

Review 37:Loved being in the beautiful French countryside, but still close to Bayeux and the D-day beaches. Their dinner was phenomenal- highly recommended! The chateau is exactly what I imagined.

Review 38:No complaints at all...it was a perfect stay

Review 39:Everything...warm welcome, lovely room and the grounds surrounding this chateau were beautiful, even in early spring. Be sure to have dinner at the excellent restaurant...it's a bargain. The bed was very comfortable too. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 40:We stayed at the room on the last floor, for an older person with walking difficulties not very comfortable climbing up so many flights of stairs.

Review 41:The grounds and chateau where beautiful, good location to relax and staff was very friendly and helpful. Would go back!

Review 42:There is a main road adjacent to the Chateau De Sully, but caused us no problem with noise whatsoever

Review 43:Set in spacious grounds, excellent accommodation Excellent variety and choice of food Easy access to Bayeux and Normandy coast

Review 44:This property is just beautiful. The staff is professional yet personable. The food was exquisite and the accommodations, bed and bath, were among the most comfortable we experienced during our four weeks of travel in France.

Review 45:No lift, so bags need to be hand carried to second floor. Rooms were not air conditioned so I they will be warm in the summer

Review 46:You can't help but be impressed when you enter the gate and see the well maintained main house and grounds. The dinner we had was one of the best we've ever had in any part of France

Review 47:Rooms have slanted ceilings- we aren't tall but felt the lower ceilings . Restaurant-very expensive, snobby, and we left when no one waited on us. Went into town and had a great dinner. Sully is expensive.

Review 48:Beautiful setting.

Review 49:Having a room in the annex 100 metres from the main building. The breakfast was disappointing and grossly overpriced.

Review 50:The ambiance and the excellent evening meal in the resturant.

Review 51:Rooms very dated. Service a bit slow for a boutique hotel. Common area Jacuzzi Tubs not properly sanitized. Exercise room needs all new equipment.

Review 52:Property was Historic, Beautiful, well maintained and tranquil. Old world charm. Spectacular dining.

Review 53:We missed enjoying the pool on the first night as we didn't realize it closed at 8. A quick tour of the facilities and timings would have been a nice touch. I also think it would have been nice if they had cleared and re laid the breakfast tables in the conservatory area so later breakfast guests could also enjoy them !

Review 54:We very much enjoyed our stay. The rooms and the hotel were lovely. The chateau and it's grounds are very attractive and well maintained. We enjoyed the pool and spa facilities and enjoyed the experience of staying in such a pretty place, yet so close to Bayeux. We especially enjoyed the little cakes which were included in the breakfast basket - I 'm not sure what they were called but they were delicious !

Review 55:I would have liked a warmer welcome from the staff. This would include help with my very heavy suitcase to be carried to the top floor of Chateau. There was no staff available to help but the person on reception did not look for anybody either. Staff did not enquire if I enjoyed my stay on departure. Beddings could be real cotton instead of polycotton

Review 56:The indoor swimming pool and sauna was excellent. Very quiet hotel, well situated outside Bayeux in a great setting.

Review 57:THE ROOM NEEDED SOME RENOVATION, SMELLS BAD, DIRTY RUG,OLD FURNITURS. THE PRICES IN THE HOTEL'S RESTAURANT ARE EXTREMLY HIGH

Review 58:THE BUILDING AND THE PROPERTY

Review 59:The SPA should have had a steam room. The breakfast for 21 euros should have included an English breakfast of sausages , bacon. The rooms were quite warm as went during summer and should have had AC.

Review 60:we loved the hotel's décor, and its beautiful gardens. The SPA was very good.

Review 61:No mini bar in the room or tea facilities

Review 62:Beautiful place, romantic, great location close to all the historic places and the beaches. excellent kitchen and friendly personal.

Review 63:Our small room was located on the third floor and there was no elevator. We were not offered any help with our luggage and had to drag it up two flight of stairs. The windows would open, but the drapes were in the way, so it was tough to get good air flow, as there was no a/c.

Review 64:The building and grounds are just lovely. It is located close to town, which is convenient. Breakfast was yummy and we enjoyed a cocktail in the lounge, which was enjoyable.

Review 65:Only one minor negative, extremely hot on the top floor if you are lucky enough to have fantastic weather.

Review 66:Excellent setting and atmosphere, beautiful and tranquil. Staff extremely attentive and very knowledgeable. Idealy located close to Bayeux. Great place to relax, we all loved it.

Review 67:Out of town positioning made it difficult to explore Bayeux without transport Several little insects in the bedroom!!

Review 68:Very peaceful setting; beautiful grounds Excellent spa facilities Excellent cuisine and extremely attentive staff - evening meal was wonderful especially the 'degustation de calvados'! Excellent buffet breakfast - wonderful scrambled eggs!

Review 69:It is far from town. The staff weren't very helpful. The pool and hot tub close at 8pm. So if you spent the day touring normandy, want to have dinner in town and then go to the pool, it is not going to happen. You would have to plan around the hotel's schedule

Review 70:The grounds are beautiful

Review 71:Would have like to have tea/coffee facilities in the room

Review 72:The retaurant was everything we expected it to be..so good we ate there both evenings of our say. Rooms were immaculately clean, and he spa facilities/pool were most welcome after a day's sightseeing - can't wait to visit again.

Review 73:We're not used to paying so much for lodging and meals. Waited until the last minute so nothing cheaper was available. 175 Euro a night and our dinner was 55 euro each plus beverage costs. If this doesn't seem like a lot to you, than by all means book this hotel. It was a treat.

Review 74:This is a beautiful property with much history. The staff is wonderful and will get you whatever you need. It is a spa hotel and everything is on the pricey side. If you love fine dining, you won't be disappointed. Dinner was excellent and the service superb. Just be aware going in that you will be paying a premium price for everything from coffee to drinks with dinner. The location is very close to Bayeux - a couple minutes by car. The tour company picked us up and dropped us at the chateau. Very convenient location.

Review 75:Fabulous....simple as that !!

Review 76:They nickel dime you

Review 77:The entire estate is deliciously charming and extremely well maintained! Staff, meals, facililties beyond superb!

Review 78:lack of shower and no alternative, simpler menu.

Review 79:Excellent food - though expensive

Review 80:Beautiful, historical setting with exquisite food. Ideally placed only a few kilometres from motorway and about 10 inutes drive into Bayeux.

Review 81:Price of dinner.

Review 82:Spa facilities.

Review 83:Loved it! Beautiful and in great location. Wished pool and spa stayed open pass 8:00!

Review 84:This historic building is set in lovely parkland near to Bayeux. Outstanding dinner and leisure facilities.

Review 85:Some of the staff not very friendly

Review 86:The peace and quiet, the spa and dinner were just wonderful

Review 87:Restaurant was excellent.

Review 88:Wi-fi slow

Review 89:Location, quiet and easy to reach attractions in the surrounding area, the pool and gardens.

Review 90:The helpfulness of the staff.

Review 91:Room too small for the price paid

Review 92:Location

Review 93:The attention to detail from staff to facilities.

Review 94:Excellent restaurant, comfortable room

Review 95:wifi was very poor, may be the configuration of the building or just the hardware they are using.

Review 96:The food was beautiful, the wine was great !! Staff are really helpful & friendly. The Spa is pristine. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 97:attentive staff but not intrusive. Superb dinner with good recommendations, altogether a lovely place to stay

Review 98:This hotel is beautiful, the grounds are spectacular and you feel special getting to stay here.

Review 99:I booked because it had a spa but when we got there it was closed. Potof tea for one six euros Overpriced throughout

Review 100:Best place we stayed in two week trip in France .

Review 101:Too far away from Bayeau. Staff gave wrong directions to our restaurant.

Review 102:Outside appearance

Review 103:Nothing

Review 104:Everything was perfect

Review 105:Lack of lift

Review 106:The estate The restaurant The history

Review 107:small room poor service in restaurant food well presented but lacked flavour generally overpriced

Review 108:Location good towels swimming pool clean

Review 109:Expensive bar

Review 110:Pleased with the quality of the whole hotel and attentiveness of staff.

Review 111:Excellent meal and service in restaurant

Review 112:Friendly and helpful staff Excellent value evening set menu

Review 113:The proximity of the chateau to the beaches and museums, The charm of the chateau and its grounds and the interior decor.

Review 114:The staff did not tell us how to get in the gate late at night.

Review 115:The setting is ideal.

Review 116:Wonderful dinner and also a good quality breakfast. Delightful service- both friendly and efficient. Lovely glass roofed swimming pool.

Review 117:Although the restaurant had good food, friendly service, we did not feel that the food warranted the extreme high price. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, also because of the high price.

Review 118:The location was excellent, the staff very helpful. Loved the swimming pool and the sauna. The hotel was clean and the bed comfortable.

Review 119:The staff are very rude, no assistance with luggage which is not great, but having staff stare at you through the door while you struggle withyour bags is highly unusual. Rooms are dilapidated, green carpet wasfilthy with stains and the bed was incredibly lumpy - so much so that myfeet were inches higher than my head!!

Review 120:The grounds, the pool / spa

Review 121:Our room in the Chateau was tired. The curtains were tatty and there wasa large stain on one of the easy chairs. The bathroom was old - showerwas in the bath and I nearly slipped twice as there was no mat. Onarrival there was no one available to take our bags up to the room andas my partner is temporarily disabled after foot surgery, I had to carrythe bags up the long spiral staircase. Only one member of staff wasfriendly and charming - the evening bar man. Bar prices were soexpensive, cheapest Calvados was 17 Euros. A decent glass was 34 Euros.First evening meal, Boeuf Bourguignonne was like chewing old shoeleather. I objected very much to being charged 2 Euros a night to parkmy car in the grounds where there was acres of space. In the centre ofBayeux I can accept but not at Sully. Finally, my partner stayed at thehotel when I took American friends off to visit d Day sites. He couldget nothing to eat at lunch time and when we returned and asked to havea cup of tea we were told 'not possible'. The Americans were notimpressed. No tea or coffee facilities in the rooms. I cannot recommendthis hotel and felt that 1360 Euros for 4 nights was a complete rip offfor what we had.

Review 122:The grounds were attractive and there was an excellent swimming pool inthe Spa. This a a lovely location and would be so good if it was rundifferently. If I went back to Bayeux I would stay at The Lion D'Or- everyone so friendly and the food was superb.

Review 123:The only thing that spoilt it for us was that we weren't told when we booked that we should have reserved a table for dinner at the same time. Although we were given advice as to where to eat that evening - nobody told us that we need a code to get in which was on our key. Just slight lack of communication - we'll know next time.

Review 124:Loved the situation. The location was wonderful and the accommodation was brilliant. A really romantic place to stay - wish it wasn't just a stopping off point for us. Definitely will be back for longer.

Review 125:Our room was very small, with barely room to walk between the beds and the wardrobe. The hotel seems to describe itself as a "spa" but it really wasn't. I think I read somewhere that if I wanted a treatment I could ask at reception but it wasn't really advertised. We had to leave at 6.30 am to catch an early ferry, but there was no-one around to check us out, so we had to leave a note asking them to charge the credit card they had swiped. I left a phone number but nobody called me. I only got confirmation of the payment, and a copy of my bill when I emailed to request it. Until then I had no idea that we had been charged €18 for a vodka and tonic and €9 for a glass of lemonade! I wasn't expecting the bill to be cheap but these prices were outrageous!

Review 126:The hotel is a beautiful building set in lovely grounds, with a really nice swimming pool; it's an easy place to relax.

Review 127:Nothing. I was totally satisfied.

Review 128:The chateau is a lovely setting close to an "art" city Bayeux in Normandy. We chose it fir a family celebration of our granddaughter's 16th birthday. We were 9 people and it was the first Micgelun starred meal for the four young people in our group. Excellent food and good value although exoensive. Very elegant but very easy going Staff were very warm and helpful. Great pool. And good value.
