Reviews for Le Tardif, Noble Guesthouse
Review 1:We were warmly welcomed into this charming hotel ( really more like a bed and breakfast) Our three teenage children had their own room with three beds while my husband and I had our own room. Our breakfast the next morning was a great way to start our day of touring the area. This was by far our favorite place to stay our entire time in France.
Review 2:This is a very classy place, every bit as lovely as it looks. Anthony was friendly and breakfast was particularly generous and delicious. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Review 3:The only bad thing was that the internet didn't actually work inside the room, only in the common areas (I heard it worked in some rooms, but not in mine). Even though, it was quite nice to seat on the drawing room and see all the great decoration while I browsed the internet for a minute or two!
Review 4:Amazing place! I felt like I was a guess in Downton Abbey, with all the great, beautiful furniture and decoration, the porcelain when breakfast was served, the drawing room...really incredible! Even the shower garnements, like the shampoo and body lotion were good...Totally recommend! You will feel like a rich person from the 1900s!
Review 5:I slept in a double, my matress had seen better days, a decided dip on either side - I couldn't lay diagonally. very basic breakfast for 10 euros.
Review 6:location & decor
Review 7:would have been better if wi-fi had been accessible in our room. we had to come out to the common areas to get reception.
Review 8:Location, grounds, breakfast, general ambience.
Review 9:Our only difficulties occurred because the owner does not speak any English and often she was the only person there. My French is rudimentary and I tried to communicate with her in French, but she made no effort to slow down her speech in French so I could understand or to use a few words of English. It was very frustrating. When we tried to ask for a taxi, the communication back and forth was not clear and we almost missed our train.
Review 10:Our room was large and the beds were very comfortable. The location was perfect and breakfast was good. Beautiful gardens in back. Quaint and historic place filled with antiques. It was lovely.
Review 11:The WiFi only worked in the main public areas of the hotel. It did not work in my room which was a little annoying.
Review 12:Attractive building with well maintained grounds. Good quiet location. Good for visiting the centre of Bayeux. About a 10 minute walk to the train station, a 5 minute walk to the tapestry and a 2 minute walk to the Cathedral. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was good.
Review 13:Wifi only available in common areas of house
Review 14:Lovely gardens, nice breakfast selection for additional 10 euros, comfy bed + high quality linens, nicely appointed bathroom with toiletries Note: the hotel owner or manager speaks no English, but we were able to communicate in my very broken French. The other employee, Anthony, spoke English very well and was very helpful.
Review 15:Could not be described at all as a bad experience but we felt that the "shabby gentille" accommodation was too rather dark, dingy and faded to merit the high price charged for the room. It was rather oppressive. This guesthouse (with wifi only available away from the room) was, for one night with breakfast, a €200+ experience that ought to have been charged at around €160.
Review 16:Very clean and adequate facilities: , welcoming, friendly and helpful staff: charming building and grounds: excellent location.
Review 17:It was a little Gem. Beautiful garden and typically French Hotel . Antonio was very informative and wish we had spoken early as he was very helpful. It's a lovely family run hotel.
Review 18:The reception wasn't labeled very clearly as its not a typical hotel with a front desk and everything so it was a tad annoying to find, but honestly this is the only negative.
Review 19:The hotel is beautiful! While smaller than I expected the decor is of 18-19th century French architechture. Don't expect the Palace of Versailles but you do get a very cultured and French feel from staying at this place. The staff was extremely friendly and polite I could not emphasize it enough. The old lady who checked me in did not speak any English, however! That did not stop her from helping me as best as she could! The room was a bit small, but well designed and stocked for it's size. The bathroom in particiular was beautiful, spacious and up to 21st century standards. Bed was very comfortable and large for one person. Lights and outlets were readily available. The hotel is in a great location, close to the Bayeux Tapestry, RIGHT outside the Bayeux Cathedral and close to the shopping/restaraunt district of town.
Review 20:We loved everything!! The proprietor was lovely - she gave us directions, helpful information, and even accommodated our early check-in. The location could not have been more perfect. Centrally located, the Hotel Tardif didn't feel like a hotel at all - it was more like staying at someone's home. The building is nestled in among other buildings in the town, and beautifully appointed indoors and out. The gardens were quiet and peaceful. It was a truly European experience. We were terribly disappointed that we had to catch an early train and missed breakfast. I will most definitely be returning!
Review 21:No reason to criticise
Review 22:I liked it because the hotel was in a convenient central location, room fairly priced, friendly hosts and wi-fi good plus also parking for my motorcycle. I would stay here again
Review 23:Was grubby, 1970's shower room in family suite . Uncomfortable beds with blankets , flat pillows. It smelt unpleasant . Was so bad it was funny . Carpets were stained .
Review 24:Location, parking .. Wifi
Review 25:This place makes you feel like you have gone back to a gentler time. The surroundings and gardens are wonderful. The rooms were a nice size and the bathrooms were completely modern. The breakfast at the beautiful dining room table was delicious. I only wish I could have stayed longer. When I booked, I was told that the hotel was booked up so I only got to stay two days. Apparently, that was not the case and so if you have that problem you might want to call Anthony directly at the hotel to make sure. Also you might get a savings on breakfast by calling directly. If you have a car. he will allow you to park it on the property so that is one less worry. I loved this place and hope you do too.
Review 26:The abusive behaviour of the hostess - yelling, door slamming etc towards guests. The clearest comment I could understand was ''this is a chambre d'hote, not a hotel' after the guest had the audacity to ask for hot water for a cup of tea. The gestures she made included three of us who were quietly enjoying a chat in the salon. Our room was under the stairs and had light shining in all night from a hallway and courtyard.
Review 27:Nice location, lovely grounds, nice breakfast. Anthony was very nice and helpful.
Review 28:Nothing.
Review 29:I loved everything about this guest house. Anthony was amazing and takes great care of his guests. He is friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The location is right in the center of town and you can walk everywhere. The home and rooms were extremely clean. The breakfast and wifi were both great. I loved all of the family antiques that are used to decorate the home. It is a beautiful property and I would absolutely stay here again.
Review 30:Absolutely loved the Chateaux! It felt like you had gone back in time. Wish we could have stayed longer. You could feel the history of the place and loved the quirkiness of it.
Review 31:Nothing!
Review 32:We have been going to Tardif on and off for several years. Anthony, the owner, has had the gorgeous old hotel particulier for 10 years and has lovingly and sensitively brought the old property back to life. He is open all year, so he has to work gradually a room at a time. Lovely. Great service (he calls for reservations at restaurants and arranged a wonderful city tour for us. He is booked a year out, so call early.
Review 33:There was nothing that I didn't like, but it doesn't have the best privacy regarding sound. The walls are thin. If that bothers you, this is not your place.
Review 34:Le Tardiff is a lovely older home, built in 1725. I thought that its preservation and decor was beautiful. A lot of care has been taken on the house. The garden, though we saw it in winter, was big and allowed you to have a nice stroll. Our room was perfect and we also had a very nice bathroom, not always found in homes of this age.
Review 35:A bath in the room would have been excellent but not a necessity
Review 36:A warn French welcome in a beautiful setting / home and an incredible location in the centre of Bayeux with parking. Walking distance back from the Tabacs and Resturants and the incredible staircase in the property.
Review 37:We liked everything.
Review 38:My daughters and I stayed at Le Tardif for one night, but we wished we had planned to stay much longer once we arrived. The location is ideally located for exploring the beautiful city of Bayeux. Everyone was very kind and informative. Our bedroom was as elegant as the main rooms in the mansion. In the morning we ejoyed a hearty breakfast in the dining room before leaving. I want to come back again with the rest of our family.
Review 39:Nothing
Review 40:Anthony was gracious and professional. The property was beautiful, even in December. Room was clean and beautiful. Breakfast was delicious. Really wish we could have stayed longer; we will be back for an extended visit.
Review 41:Bed too hard. Bedding poor quality which let what was a quaint place down and gave it a unnecessary cheap/dated feel. No tea coffee facilities in room.
Review 42:Location and convenience. Beautiful house. Friendly staff
Review 43:Elegant building, spacious and comfortable rooms, quiet and peaceful, secure parking, very conveniently located in the cente of this delightful town.
Review 44:Wifi only in common areas.
Review 45:Beautiful building, great decor, delicious breakfast, friendly staff, secure parking. Great location. Would highly recommend.
Review 46:Some updating required - bathroom a little tired, window catch broken, decor in room rather ageing
Review 47:Central location. Peaceful enclosed and private garden. Relaxed atmosphere. Pleasant staff.
Review 48:-nothing it was perfect
Review 49:-very clean and cosy sleep -good breakfast, fresh bread, cheese, meat, fruit -very helpful friendly staff, Anthony was excellent, he booked a rental car for us and even came to our rescue when we we killed the battery in our car by leaving the lights on overnight -comfy bed -could not ask for anything more for the price -stay here with no regrets!
Review 50:Can't think of anything I didn't like
Review 51:Used Le Tardif as a base for visiting the 5 D-day beaches and the airborne drop zones. It was a perfect place to do so as it was near the N-13 parkway that provides access to those areas. It is centrally located in Bayeux and within walking distance of the tapestry museum, good local restaurants, and town. Anthony was a great help, very helpful, and made the stay very pleasant. Overall a positive place to stay. Highly recommend Le Tardif.
Review 52:Nothing...
Review 53:Anthony was a wonderful wonderful and friendly host! The location was PERFECT.... Just steps from the beautiful Bayeux cathedral and in the heart of the old city. The rooms were large and well appointed, with beautiful furniture, etc. The bathrooms were also larger than most Ibe experienced. The front of the guesthouse is a beautiful park-like setting. Thanks Anthony!!
Review 54:Shower was small, no bath tub, bed could use better reading lamps/lights
Review 55:big bedroom, charming building, garden, breakfast in the dining room, quiet, location, innkeeper was helpful with restaurant recommendations
Review 56:A short pleasant walk from the train station we entered the beautiful grounds of Le Tardif and were met by Anthony, our host. From that moment on we were given red carpet treatment with a tour of Le Tardif which concluded by ascending a spiral staircase to our incredible suite. Location is the best in Bayeux, quiet, secure, better than home with an excellent breakfast the next morning. Our host bent over backwards to make our stay special. We recommend a 4 day stay or longer as our fellow guests were smart enough book and make Le Tardif and Bayeux a destination point in any travel plans and not a way point.
Review 57:The wife and I a great stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room overlooking the garden was fantastic. So close to everything, so very relaxing!
Review 58:Nothing really.
Review 59:A beautiful old building furnished in a most attractive way from a bygone era. Large bedroom with equally large on suite bathroom. Great location within walking distance of town centre. Secure off street parking a bonus. Charming host too. Would recommend as a great alternative to modern, soulless chain hotels but if you want the facilities they offer you won't find them at Le Tardif.
Review 60:nothing
Review 61:This is a fabulous house with a lovely garden right in the center of Bayeux. The host was very welcoming and it was a treat to be in such a grand house. Even the parking was arranged so as not to distract the view toward the garden.
Review 62:A warm friendly greeting. A great location in the centre of Bayeux, with off street parking The bed was very comfortable in a large amazing bedroom and ensuite. Breakfast was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this B & B.
Review 63:The lack of an elevator, which of course, is not possible in a building of this age. The spiral staircase seemed like it needed some type of material on the steps to prevent slipping. They were very smooth from years of use.
Review 64:Anthony, the only staff person I encountered, was very knowledgable and helpful. He recommended great restaurants for us to try. The house is charming and well kept. The location is perfect for the cathedral, the Tapestry Museum and the train station. The grounds were well kept with nice flowers and trees.
Review 65:Comforter on bed was very worn. Guests should be notified if towels were not to be replaced everyday. It would have been nice to have better quality soap and shampoo.
Review 66:Location was excellent. The owner was delightful and very helpful. He was very friendly and accessible and responsive. Room we were in was huge. Loved the stained glass windows. Loved the heated towels rack.
Review 67:Room carpet and mattress getting a little worn but doesn't detract from the stay.
Review 68:An excellent country B&B. The staff will make it happen for you.
Review 69:Excellent B&B. Anthony is a great host. LTNG is a very beautiful and peaceful B&B. Excellent location as well. I'd certainly stay here again especially if I was staying there with a woman:)
Review 70:Bed mattresses were a little hard and uncomfortable. Electrical outlets for charging were a little hard to find.
Review 71:Very cozy guesthouse - while there are a lot of rooms, it felt very comfortable. The family suite was big enough to accommodate us all. Location is great - parking on the grounds, and you feel like you're in the countryside despite being right in town.
Review 72:Quiet. Lovely gardens. Nice room. Short walk to meet tours. Close to tapestry museum & cathedral. Many restaurants close by. Easy walk to train station once you know the way. A little hard to find even with walking directions as it was hard to find street signs & front of hotel does not face street.
Review 73:Stayed here on our last night in France whilst travelling home. Lovely looking old Manor House right in the centre of town, 50m from the Tapestry. Gorgeous chic French interior, beautifully appointed rooms.
Review 74:It was difficult to find staff.
Review 75:The location couldn't have been more perfect. The regal yet warm decoration of the rooms made you feel as if you were sleeping in a castle! And the garden gave you an incredible sensation of peace.
Review 76:We immediately loved the look and feel of Le Tardif and were so pleased of our decision to stay here. The rooms were large, beautiful and very comfortable. The location was ideal to walk to the Tapestries, Cathedral, and excellent restaurants. Anthony prepared a lovely breakfast, and was very happy to advise us what to see and do in the area. Do not hesitate to book this wonderful property.
Review 77:A lovely old building with interior furnishings to suit. Very central and with on site parking. Very good breakfast in the pleasant dining room. Would stay again and recommend to anyone.
Review 78:For the price I think little things could have been done better: For example there was no facility to make tea or coffee in the rooms, we were unable to connect to the wifi and the TV wouldn't work either (not that this mattered too much as we watched the world cup games at a nearby bar)): Nevertheless the host was helpful and lent us his tablet etc
Review 79:The Location was fantastic - beautiful old house with a lot of character
Review 80:The location of this guesthouse is excellent! Literally steps away from the Cathedral and the Bayeux Tapestry. It was also a great location to see the D-Day beaches if you have a car. Safe and secure parking on location. A beautiful old home with lovely antiques and gardens. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Host was reserved, but friendly and helpful.
Review 81:Couldn't fit on the bed. I am 6'4" and there was a footboard, so had to sleep at an angle
Review 82:Its ideally situated to explore Bayeux. The hotel is well decorated and furnished. Quiet and comfortable
Review 83:Setting, entre house, grounds, location, Anthony, fabulous breakfast (especially croissants!!!). Anthony was very knowledgeable about our tour company.
Review 84:Wonderful authentic French B and B, delightful host Anthony, peace and quiet in the heart of Bayeux - just a minute away from the cathedral and tapestry
Review 85:A little pricey for the quality of the rooms and quality of bedding. The television in the room was about 14 inches and there wasn't one channel with English. Tough during the FIFA games.
Review 86:This guesthouse is across from many cafes, the Cathedral and Tapestry. Close walk to downtown. Beautiful gardens.
Review 87:The floor is cold like any old house.
Review 88:Le Tardiff is.comfortable and welcoming right in the heart of Bayeaux with easy access to the Normandy beaches. It has lovely old world charm, a good breakfast, beautiful garden and great host.

Review 91:Close to everything you want to see. The grounds were absolutely dreamy and so was my little room.
Review 92:I loved the graciousness and charm of the hosts and the hotel itself!
