Reviews for Chambres d'Hôtes Le Château des Requêtes
Review 1:A very hospitable host, who was very welcoming. And her home-made jams at breakfast were excellent. This is a wonderful, characterful old house, and we loved it. This was a return visit.
Review 2:The house had been beautiful once but was quite shabby now. That alone is not a criticism but it would have been better if it was well maintained. There was no shower except the bathtub had a hand held shower. The water pressure was good but without a proper screen, the water went everywhere. There WAS a screen but it was flimsy plastic, broken and rickety and I didn't dare move it. I moved the towel holder to be nearer the bath but it fell apart into a pile of metal tubes - quite a puzzle to reassemble. The bin hadn't been emptied from the previous occupant. There was quite a lot of dust around the furniture in the room. The worst part was the bed - it was very old and uncomfortable and the old springs made so much noise that every little movement woke us both up. There was no duvet, only heavy old blankets. The chateau is reached down a long tree lined drive but was actually about 100m from the autoroute which was noisy all night.
Review 3:The lady of the house was friendly and helpful. The room was large and there was a large opening window over the grounds. The breakfast was only continental but the croissants were freshly baked which was a treat.
Review 4:Chateau was a little jaded but they could not have been more welcoming and room was immaculately clean and HUGE for a family of five. Breakfast was great with homemade jams and lots of hot chocolate for kids. Will definitely return
Review 5:Very difficult to find. Located next to busy motorway. Building poor state of repair outside. Inside charmingly shabby chic? Owner doesn't speak English. No yogurt, cheese, ham or fruit for breakfast.
Review 6:Truly French experience, beautiful chateau. Chatelaine friendly but only speaks French. Fresh croissant, bread and homemade preserves for breakfast.
Review 7:Breakfast was basic, bread/croissants with a selection of homemade jams. The evening before we were asked if we'd like tea or coffee for breakfast, myself and my husband opted for tea, but the selection of teas were a little eclectic, we really just needed breakfast tea. The location of the breakfast table, in the foyer was not ideal.
Review 8:The family room was great, we loved the ambience of the space. Lovely experience.
Review 9:an 'old World' Chateau experience. A good chance to see French grand living first hand. Madam was welcoming & friendly & served a selection of her homemade jams with pride.
Review 10:If you've ever fancied staying in the fading splendour of a grand French country house, matched with comfy beds, friendly hosts and a great breakfast, this is definitely for you! NB, they don't take credit cards, so come prepared with cash.
Review 11:Exceptionally lovely welcome from staff- even came to find us when we were lost en-route. Room was gorgeous and breakfast simple but lovely. Great place to stay for a truly French experience
Review 12:Felt a little tired and worn. could do we a refurb and only 1 area to sit inside apart from bedroom which was dark. Our family room was given to someone else, so one of my children had to sleep on matress on floor!!!!
Review 13:Beautiful house, great location for ferries and travelling back to england. Lovely staff
Review 14:Sat Nav found it tricky to find and enlisted the help of the local Gendarmarie! Sign isn't clear the first time you pass, especially when in the car with distracting children. Think that was more down to us than the hotel though.
Review 15:Beautiful place, warm welcome and nothing was too much bother. The children (aged 3 & 1) were able to play in the garden with all the toys and were perfectly safe to explore. Family room was lovely, spacious and clean, bed extremely comfortable. Couldn't ask for more.
Review 16:The couple who owned the Chateau gave very personal service and provided plenty of information on local historical areas. The homemade jams at breakfast time were a real treat.
Review 17:Nothing really to be negative about, but, as with most French addresses, you have to really on your satnav to take you to the area of Valframbert (north of Alencon) and then look out for a roadside sign for the hotel on the main road into town. There is a long driveway but stick with it to be delighted when you find the building!
Review 18:We stayed here to break up our journey onward to Caen for the ferry. The 16th century (in parts) house is very well kept with lovely grounds, and furnished in that style. The best part though is the owners who were so kind and helpful, allowing us to practice our rusty French without feeling silly. We had a family room (double bed in a curtained off area), large and spacious with a rolltop bath as a treat! It seems that many people stay in Alencon to access Le Mans as well as the ferry ports. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
Review 19:Said WIFI but patchy, meant to have TV and it did but no socket for it to be put in and so did not work. Shower not working properly, locks on windows poor so not good with my young daughter
Review 20:The location and view of an outstanding old house was very positive at first
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:If you want an all singing all dancing hotel with every facility then this is not for you. It is like visiting a long lost relative in their family home. Very informal and friendly.GPS co-ordinates taken from Google Earth takes you to the front door. Enjoyed it very much.
Review 23:Difficult to find. Address on website misleading and inadequate. Wifi code did not work.
Review 24:Staff could not have been more helpful. Interesting building. Spacious and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.
Review 25:Quite hard to find, although the owner came and found us when we were lost! The noise from the motorway which was just behind the property. Tea and coffee making facilities would have been nice. A very noisey bed.
Review 26:Very friendly, the owner came and found us when the sat nav couldn't find the way! Nice home made preserve with breakfast.
Review 27:The breakfast was very basic for the money. The kids found it a little spooky in their imagination and the overall feeling was like a visit to great grandma's house! The beds were a little uncomfortable on the our return visit but we still slept well.
Review 28:The size of the rooms, and quirkiness of the Chateau were great with big ceiling to floor windows and individually decoration. Madame and Monsieur were very helpful and hospitable and did not complain that I mixed up the booking. The Chateau is conveniently situated for the motorway and the centre of Alencon - which is a beautiful city and would be worth a few days spent there. There are plenty of places to eat nearby as well as a supermarket.
Review 29:The large family room was spacious and quaintly decorated and had a lovely view into the internal courtyard. The hostess was very helpful and informative. We enjoyed the home-made jam with the breakfast.
Review 30:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 31:Lovely house with very friendly staff, speak very little English though. Rooms very large and unique. Great location if traveling back to Calais an easy 3 - 4 hours.
Review 32:Mirrors too high had to stand on a chair to see.
Review 33:The owners were very welcoming even came to meet us when we couldn't find the location at our sat nav. Massive room, great homemade conserves for breakfast with lovely porcelain crockery. Really felt we were in France and experiencing life gone by.
Review 34:Hard to find as sat-nav takes you to old route now closed. Entrance at end of unmade drive. Motor way noise hard to ignor.
Review 35:ideal stop over from La Rochelle to Rouen.
Review 36:With all it's period charm there was nothing I didn't like about our stay - what I really didn't like was having to say goodbye!
Review 37:The owners were very accommodating for all our requirements including providing breakfast at 6am. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very warm and inviting - a real pleasure to stay with.
Review 38:Close to the highway.
Review 39:It was unique and comfortable.
Review 40:no bad experiences
Review 41:The atmosphere of the place
Review 42:Very friendly family, lovely building and grounds, different, good location
Review 43:Lovely couple and an amazing Chateaux. Great to get all of us comfortably in a room
Review 44:Beautiful place, friendly and knowledgeable staff
Review 45:A glorious place for an overnight stay - fascinating building, all a bit eccentric...
Review 46:Beautiful setting. Extremely helpful owners. Perfect light breakfast.
Review 47:Very spacious family room Close to motorway
Review 48:The long tube pillow we had was a bit uncomfortable.
Review 49:Really enjoyed the family and the home made jams!
Review 50:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 51:Everything. Such character, ambience and period charm. We loved it.
Review 52:This was a quirky house full of character. Some might say a lot of updating is required but we like it just the way it is.
Review 53:Beautiful rooms and really friendly staff.
Review 54:Amazing building Beautiful rooms Homemade jams at breakfast
Review 55:Really pleasant owner / operator Beautiful, atmospheric property Handy for motorway (located just off it) Safe for kids to run around
Review 56:Pleasant location with friendly hosts
Review 57:It's a bit run down, and the bed was knackered. The shower was over the bath and you have to kind of assemble the screen and the shower head can not fix to the wall. The road is not on sat nav and even using lat/long it is hard to find.
Review 58:Nice old building, and the owners were nice and could speak a bit of English. Breakfast is at one big table with the other guests, which actually works well to get to know them.
Review 59:Beds very uncomfortable, the property needs considerable updating, cluttered with owners stuff eg settee right in front of main door, pool table bottom of stairs( no balls). My suggestion is they should make the entrance more welcoming, get new mattress, clear corridors of their personal stuff lick of paint and they would have a place you would return to
Review 60:The location was handy for the motorway and Alencon The breakfast was good Friendly staff
Review 61:We had terrible problems finding the Chateau as the address doesn't help so the owners had to guide us by phone. Basically when leaving the "autoroute" towards Alencon look out (soon) for the "Auberge Normande" on your right. After this restaurant turn almost immediately right into a tree lined driveway to the Chateau...
Review 62:The family room in this old French chateau was perfect for our overnight stay - peaceful, comfortable for 4 and at an excellent price!
Review 63:The most uncomfortable night of our travels through France. In particular the bed and mattress were 20-30 years past their use-by date. We were not advised until long after arrival that only cash was acceptable payment.
Review 64:I would have liked to have tea making facilities in the room, but prepared to do without because the hotel was lovely - a fair trade off!
Review 65:The original charm of the building and its furnishings and fittings . The friendliness of the owners.the breakfast was typically French but better than most hotels including croissant, fresh baked bread rolls and home made jams.
Review 66:This place is charming, an absolute gem. Beautiful old chateau with original features. Breakfast from gilted porcelain in a grand dining room. We thought we were coming to a motorway hotel. What a wonderful shock we had.
Review 67:Nothing to dislike.
Review 68:Fantastic house and very relaxed atmosphere. Beautifully furnished and maintained family house where we were made to feel very welcome. The owners were charming and very helpful.
Review 69:Where to start? Run down and shabby, not clean with the bath and sink not working in our room, couldn't get the Wi-Fi working either. Breakfast consisted of a small stale croissant and bread role each. Don't let anyone get carried away by saying this is real quaint French accommodation or suggest if you don't like this you should stay in a Travelodge.. it's was simply rundown, poor facilities and very limited access. Wouldn't stay there again, nor recommend anyone to.
Review 70:It's location was useful for a trip down to the Vendee, though that was diluted in the difficulty finding it -don't rely on satnav!
Review 71:Difficult to find... especially in the dark! Not lit, with a very discrete sign?
Review 72:Utterly unique.... rambling Chateau with real charm... more B&B in elegant surroundings...!
Review 73:I really liked the character of the place and its location very handy for an overnight stop on our way further south. Lovely big family room with a separate area for the parents bed divided by a curtain.
Review 74:Great bed & breakfast located in a traditional french chateau. All staff were lovely and spoke English, breakfast served in the large drawing room with freshly baked bread and pastries. Our children (5 & 2) thought it was like staying in a fairy tale castle!
Review 75:We wanted to stay in a traditional french chateau and not a typicalbudget hotel. The Chateau is quirky, the owner non english speaking butlovely and friendly, we had a family room with lots of old traditionalfurniture and fresh made coissants, orange coffe and hot chocolate inthe morning - just what we wanted. Lovely Chataeu, great location for LeMans or Alecon or great overnight stop if travellling further like us.Would go again.
Review 76:Amazing chateau chambre d'hote. Colette couldn't have been more lovely and accommodating. We stayed in Le Suite. My 2 girls loved staying in the chambre jeune filles, and pretended they were princesses the whole time we were there. Our room was beautiful too, with a magnificent four poster bed and our own small en suite.. Heartily recommend. We stopped on the way back to the UK from SW France as the distance was perfect.
Review 77:Breakfast was very basic and note to self never drink tea in France! The dining arrangement meant we had breakfast in the greeting room. Credit cards were not accepted and that is not what I expect in this day and age.signage to the entrance needs to be improved as we drove past it twice.satnav didn't help.
Review 78:Good room sizes and very spacious.I liked the sense of history and the character of the building. There was a family feel to it.
Review 79:The staff at the hotel were very helpful and went beyond that of any other hotel that I have stayed at.
Review 80:quite hard to find
Review 81:very good family room, would stay again
Review 82:it was simple to find but don't rely on the Garmin Satnav
Review 83:The building, the history, the peacefulness, the staff and finally the price
Review 84:Unprofessional reception and entrance, lack of signs of any sort.
Review 85:First impressions were improved when we got to the room.
