Reviews for Hôtel Le Bayeux

Review 1:Friendly and helpful staff, good location central to centre of town and tourist attractions and the tapestry is well worth a visit and it only around corner from hotel. Staff recommended a very good restaurant to me just around corner

Review 2:Ideal location near to the cathedral with good restaurants within walking distance. Good size room with large beds. Good size bathroom with a good hot shower. Secure parking at reasonable rate. Helpful and knowledgeable staff who knew the area well.

Review 3:The room itself was no nicer than a hostel, which surprised me based on the reviews here as well as the other clientele we saw there (older adults, not just us 20-somethings) and the wifi did not reach our room so I had to sit in the lobby to access it.

Review 4:Very friendly, helpful staff. Had a family-business atmosphere. $10 breakfast was good, though not sure I ever ate $10's worth.

Review 5:Mediocre breakfast, yes, lots of cakes and things but not great quality.

Review 6:Great location and wifi. It's dated yes, but perfectly comfortable and good base to explore the area. The 'honesty' fridge is handy!

Review 7:Slight musty smell in the room. But not oppressive.

Review 8:Fantastic location in the heart of the old city. Small quaint hotel, with nice breakfast service, wifi, newspapers. Functional basic rooms. Nice and very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 9:Shower hrad to point on body. Water was over you head or too low.

Review 10:Short walk to downtown and restaurants. Good breakfast. Central located for a short drive to all beach sites. Comfortable beds.

Review 11:the separate toilet, had to wash in another room.

Review 12:The clerk at the front desk was great, very helpful in finding some of our lost luggage, very pleasant person. The BREAKFAST WAS WONDERFUL!!!! lots of selection, very fresh, great coffee.

Review 13:cannot recommend enough, great people ,great staff very very friendly , great place to visit , our car had problems but this hotel went out of their way to recieve us in the early morning , loved the location , the breakfast was great to/

Review 14:Our room was on the second floor, and without an elevator, carrying luggage up the stairs was a minor challenge for us, a senior couple, but the owner did assist my wife.

Review 15:Small hotel is within walking distance of the major attractions in Bayeux, including the Cathedral, the Tapestry and the restaurant and shopping areas. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was a reasonable size for France and both bright and airy.

Review 16:The breakfast was the worst we had experienced in 4 weeks of travel. The hot food was not fresh or hot - Looked like it had been served very early in the morning so at around 8am it looked and tasted very average. We avoided it the second morning.

Review 17:Central location. Helpful staff.

Review 18:Clean property and a great room. No carpets so we knew the floor was clean! Once we checked in we were left alone but the staff was approachable. Breakfast buffet was good, too.

Review 19:Very nice hotel for the money. Rooms were a nice size and comfortable. We really liked the lobby area and honor bar with wine, coffee, water and soft drinks.

Review 20:The breakfast was very limited and the kitchen was very slow in having a hot breakfast ready. 10 euro is too much for a croissant. Eggs were never ready.

Review 21:We were in a good walking distance of restaurants.

Review 22:Should offer coffee all day free of charge. Offers coffee @ 2€ but no carryout cups. Just a suggestion. Need a place to relax outside of the hotel building.

Review 23:Quiet location. Easy walking distance to eateries and activities. Clean!

Review 24:We should have looked for longer and maybe paid a bit more to get something nicer. This is a slightly tired, but functional and OK place to stay. I'd not stay again. On this trip we stayed in nicer places for less (but in areas where the hotels etc. were cheaper). We should have paid more given it was Bayeux and so popular for visitors.

Review 25:Great location.

Review 26:this our second stay and both were great. Perfect location and night manager so very helpful. The redo of hotel since our last stay makes it even more comfortable!

Review 27:There's no way this is a 3 star hotel. My accommodations were similar to my dorm room in college. Very spartan. Harsh lighting. Poor "soap" in bathroom. All-in-one soap-shampoo-conditioner didn't do the job and served only to reduce hotel's costs.

Review 28:front desk staff all very nice and helpful

Review 29:We were jet lagged and just wanted to check in when we arrived

Review 30:This hotel sent us to another hotel - Hotel Bayeau Domaine. It was a lovely hotel with better amenities than the Hotel Bayeaux.

Review 31:Clean, ready at noon for our stat. Staff was wonderful... Breakfast early and plentiful.. Owner/Mgr great personality and warm and friendly. I was quite ill die a few hours and he was very helpful! Linens, shower perfect! Highly recommend!

Review 32:Great location - very close to all the main attractions in the town. Nice to stay in a place that reflected the character of the town. Good breakfasts.

Review 33:The night staff left at 9pm. When we arrived home after 9pm and pulledback the bed covers, there were blood stains and other stains on thesheets. There was no one to fix it at that hour, so I had to sleep ontop of the comforter on two blankets. When I mentioned this the next daywhile picking up our luggage after a tour, the front desk man asked whyI didn't tell them immediately, which was not an option given thestaff had already left for the night! The accusatory tone wasunpleasant, as were the filthy sheets.

Review 34:The location near the Cathedral and many of the D-Day tour company pick-ups, as well as the train station, is very convenient.

Review 35:Our room was by the front desk; the one window in our room did not have shades, only a sheer curtain, so we did not have privacy since the window overlooked the car park; the bathroom was cleaned with too much bleach and had a funny odor; the water pressure in the shower and faucet was weak; and the hot water in the shower did not work properly so it would get too hot then too cold when we tried to adjust it.

Review 36:The location, breakfast, staff and family room, which is rare in Europe. We stayed in Bayeux as a home base to tour the WWII battle sites, and the hotel was in a perfect location. It was a five-minute walk to the meeting spot for the shuttles.

Review 37:No bad experiences but the facilities, whilst sufficient, are a bit basic as was our room. The rooms clearly vary and ours was not one shown in any pictures we saw! The lack of ambience in the room and of a lounge means this is not a place to linger in the evening. That is not a problem if one plans to spend the evening in local restaurants and bars but not so good if one wished to sit in comfort and read.

Review 38:We spent 4 days visiting the Normandy D-Day area but also wanted to take in Bayeux and be close to the town centre. The location is very good, just a few minutes walk from the Cathedral and restaurants but in a quiet street. The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 39:Parking was ok for 10 Euros/night but required giving up you keys so cars could be moved around if required. A minor inconvenience. Room sound proofing not the best. Could hear people shutting doors and talking in hallway, but not a huge distraction as the noise was brief.

Review 40:Staff was very helpful. Room and bathroom was clean and comfortable. Location was ideal.

Review 41:Extremely helpful host - right down to helping us getting our rental car started! Helpful with local information to help us make the most of sightseeing. Great to join other guests in the dining room for a generous breakfast.

Review 42:The room was very small. The noise from the shower and toilet above woke us up at night and in the morning. Our shower had mildew...it was also in areas of the tiled wall.

Review 43:The location was convenient.

Review 44:It was all absolutely fine, so there is nothing to add here.

Review 45:The staff were very helpful with parking and advice for finding our way about. Nice and quiet, yet close to the cathedral and tapestry.

Review 46:Nothing

Review 47:Great location near to Cathedral, free parking and good wifi. This hotel offers good value for money and family rooms. Short on luxury but big on everything else, the hotel was clean and well run. Would definitely use it again!

Review 48:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Let us leave our car whilst we went sightseeing on the day of our departure. Hotel was comfortable with a very good breakfast. Really enjoyed our overnight stay.

Review 49:Parking can be a little tight

Review 50:Very comfortable, very friendly, within walking distance of restaurants, etc., reasonable pricing. We had four rooms, all comfortable, but not large. Would go back without question.

Review 51:I booked this hotel based on the good reviews and the location. I was very disappointed overall. The room did not feel clean whatsoever. I found a hair in the sheets and there was mold in the shower. There is extremely limited parking as well.

Review 52:The staff was very nice and helpful.

Review 53:Parking extremely difficult as it was a Saturday in August. However we managed to get one of the few hotel parking spaces and the hotel does offer a disc which allows you to park in spaces marked in blue.

Review 54:Helpful staff and location within 5 minutes walk to the cathedral and tapestry museum

Review 55:Perfect base to see the D-Day beaches. Great location to see Bayeux city in walking distance. Excellent with Family room to host my four kids (age 7,10,14,17) and me. Very helpful and positive staff

Review 56:Nothing, it was great.

Review 57:Clean comfortable room. Conveniently located to UNESCO World Heritage Tapestry, Mont St. Michel, as well as D-Day Beaches/sites. Plenty of dining options just a stroll away. Lovely complete breakfast in the morning.

Review 58:This hotel is within easy walking distance of both the Tapestry and the Cathedral. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Patricia and her staff are always friendly and helpful and full of information to make your stay enjoyable!

Review 59:Gentleman who I think owns hotel told us that no one ever swims at Omaha beach and when we drove there the beach was packed. Also he recommended a Restaraunt in town which we went to (it wasn't great) and found out later he had coupons and didn't offer them to us.

Review 60:Location was great. Very clean. Served its purpose for 1-2 nights.

Review 61:Our stay was great except for our neighbours sink taps. When ever they turned on the sink, it would scream at a high pitch and loud volume. This obviously woke us up on the early hours of the morning. The walls were not soundproofed very well.

Review 62:The location of the hotel with shops and restraints in Beyeux was excellent. It is only one block away from the cathedral, and is a short walk from the train station. Breakfast was great however, the price is not included with your hotel.

Review 63:The price was a little high considering the rooms are quite basic. Their parking lot is very small but found free nearby parking along the street.

Review 64:The hotel staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. Everyone spoke English which is handy for those who don't speak French. The hotel location was excellent. In one direction it is a three minute walk to see the Tapestry. In the other direction (past the Cathedral) you will find twenty restaurants within a ten minute walk. Yet the hotel is on a quiet street which is easily accessible from the highway. Their breakfast was tasty.

Review 65:The room we stayed in was about 6 feet from the registration desk in the small hotel lobby and was directly adjacent to the car park. There were boisterous people in the lobby, directly outside the bedroom door until about 3:30 a.m. and outside the room was a giant metal gate that slammed up against the window when opened to let in a car. Anybody standing outside would have literally been virtually in our room. We were only fortunate that none of the lobby drunks decided to go out for a smoke and drop their cigarette in our window. There are no screens in France and with just lace curtains for privacy it was a little bit weird.

Review 66:The hotel was very centrally located and the staff were very nice and helpful

Review 67:Hotel is small, with very friendly and helpful staff. It is a five-minute walk to the tour pick-ups point, and from all the restaurants. And, you can see the gorgeous cathedral towers from the breakfast window!

Review 68:Absence of soap ! Absence of lift

Review 69:Staff were excellent. Very helpful and kind. Even went to the trouble of decorating breakfast room in honour of Independence Day for American guests

Review 70:The bed was on the hard side. It was quite a walk to the shopping area but would have been more expensive to be closer. The wifi was slow. The room was extremely cramped for 4 of us and the bunk was very squeaky. The linoleum floor made it seem cheap. There was no vent in the restroom.

Review 71:The location in relation to the rest of our own trip. Breakfast was substantial.

Review 72:Got a cheap room on booking.com and the old adage of you get what you pay for was true. Room was clean and tidy but more akin to a hostel room than hotel. Worst was no air conditioning or even a fan and waa a hot June when we were there.so we had to open the small window on ground level but it's not screened so there were Mosquitos and bugs to contend with. Wifi in our room -16 very slow and inconsistent.

Review 73:Position good with a 10 minute walk to train station and 5 minutes to cafes. Patricia was very helpful and spoke excellent English which is always a bonus when my French is so limited. There was an honour system mini bar in the foyer with drinks and tea and coffee making facilities for a small fee. Breakfast was plentiful.

Review 74:No AC. Beds uncomfortable. Soap in shower was watered down. staff advised us not to go to a certain street, that it was too touristy. we went there on the last day, and it was the best part of the town!

Review 75:good location

Review 76:Easy access, centrally located in Bayeax. Near all Normandy historic sites and memorial. We loved the nice staff and lovely breakfast. We felt well cared for!

Review 77:Having to wait until almost 4 pm to check into my room. Get more cleaning staff if you can't meet the advertised 2 pm check-in time.

Review 78:The staff was friendly and helpful

Review 79:Easy walk into the centre of the beautiful city of Bayeux. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking was provided. We would definitely stay there again.

Review 80:Our room was on the ground floor, which to begin with was fine, we'd gotten the last room in the hotel so beggars can't be choosers. However, this room is right beside the reception desk and bathroom. So lots of noise, people coming and going, people checking out.... It did disturb us while we were in the room, so a warning to others who are offered room number 1, see if they have anything else! In saying that, I would stay here again, as long as it was in another room!

Review 81:The beds in this place are so comfortable, and big, best sleep ever (when we were asleep, see below!). The location of this hotel is excellent too, a stone's throw from the restaurants, the cathedral and Bayeux Tapestry, with the military museum not further than 10min walk.... Staff were mostly friendly, and well used to assisting travellers on where to go, what to do, etc.

Review 82:Public areas were not clean. The rooms were all down a long corridor and soundproofing was non-existent. When the loo was flushed next door it sounded as if it was in my room. Equally I could hear every word of the people talking in the room above mine. All this would have been supportable except for the fact that we were charged €100 + per night. To add insult to injury our friend had to park his Mercedes on the street and had the symbol ripped off during the night (as also happened to the hotel manager's car) This was not the hotel's fault obviously, but didn't contribute to his overall experience. However they did allow him to park his car on the forecourt beside the entrance the 2nd night.

Review 83:Ideal location. Friendly staff who spoke excellent english and went out of their way to be helpful, including ringing restaurants to book tables. Breakfast was extensive. Room was clean, plenty of hot water.

Review 84:Very pricey for what it is. A bit shabby.Parking not ideal. Only a tiny courtyard which you had to reverse into.

Review 85:Locality to main sights in Bayeux. Comfortable large bed. Nice friendly staff.

Review 86:Cream would be nice for those of us who use cream in their morning coffee.

Review 87:Comfortable and quiet rooms. Very friendly staff. Generous breakfast. The other guests were great and everyone is so friendly.

Review 88:Hotel a bit faded - some pealing wallpaper etc Breakfast OK but not brilliant. Pre-booked parking space but turned away and had to park in the street! Not a very friendly start to the stay.

Review 89:Best feature - close to town centre. Generally OK for a three star hotel.

Review 90:A bureau or bigger closet would have been nice

Review 91:The location was perfect. Located on a small side street, close to the metro, market, restaurants and bistros, walking distance to many sites. Brand new, spotless bathroom

Review 92:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the get go from arranging day trips based on last minute request to tips on places to go locally. Convenient location...will definitely stay here should I visit Bayeux again.

Review 93:We did not have a privacy curtain in our first floor room.

Review 94:Just a 2 night stay but we were happy with the location. Very easy to walk to the tapestry, art museum and restaurants. We just loved to take quick strolls around the charming old town. The staff was very friendly and helpful.I would definitely stay there again.

Review 95:Some English stations on the TV would have been good.

Review 96:The staff were friendly and very helpful, The hotel is in a central location and near to then main attractions in Bayeux. The tours of Normandy and Mont St. Michel were very good with excellent local guides. The breakfasts were good. An excellent value for the money!

Review 97:Parking was tricky, and our room was in need of a makeover. The hotel seemed busy and there were sometimes large groups of people waiting to be helped at the desk.

Review 98:The location is fabulous, very helpful staff, and good breakfast.

Review 99:The car park is small, but there are 2 parking places within 50 m diameter and one is free if you can find an empty place.

Review 100:The Hotel is within the town, not the most luxurious but good value for money hotel. The tour guides stop to pick you up.

Review 101:- the room was relatively small, but still comfortable - one could hear the footsteps in the corridor

Review 102:- excellent location - friendly staff - nice selection at breakfast - very clean

Review 103:Very helpful staff, can help with recommendations and arrangements on anything you might be interested in from D-day tours to shuttle services. The breakfast was the best we have had in France. We loved the heated towel rails in the bathroom and the vouchers we received for free welcoming drinks at a restaurant close by.

Review 104:Everything was great. We were staying out of season and suspect parking situation (easy in April) might be more intense in high season or for very large vehicles. However all the town's attractions are within 10 mins walk from hotel.

Review 105:Very convenient location. Check-in staff member could not have been more pleasant or helpful - recommended restaurant for evening meal which we tried and liked. Would definitely return.

Review 106:Although the location was quite good in relation to the town, it's about a 15 minutes walk from the train station. No staff is at the hotel reception in the night, although advance arrangements could be made if late check in is expected.

Review 107:The breakfast was really good, with hot bread and juices, yoghurt and fruit. Although, a completely different spread everyday can't really realistically be expected. Breakfast was a separate Charge. Location was quite good, not too far for a walk to all the attractions and museums.

Review 108:The staff were amazingly. They went above and beyond with advice about parking, local sights, and with getting boarding passes printed off. We had 3 people in the room so it was a little tight but very functional and clean.

Review 109:Consider asking for a room away from the breakfast area if you fancy sleeping past 7:30 am

Review 110:Great location - 10 minute walk from train station. Wonderful, English fluent staff. Breakfast good variety; local and standard offerings; no pressure; UNLIMITED COFFEE DRINKS (worth the 10 euro price alone). Would definitely return

Review 111:The breakfast was ok. We only did it one day but then we found E. Leclec down the road and went shopping for some non perishables and just kept snack stuff in our room.

Review 112:This was a great place to stay! Walking distance to everything in town, the employees were friendly and helpful! The entire town was awesome. I would stay here longer and spend less time in Paris!

Review 113:The WC had no hand-washing and was separate from the bathroom.

Review 114:The receptionist was very helpful and even carried our bags up to the room, which was small but completely adequate.

Review 115:The Hotel was handily placed in Bayeux for access to the city and to the ring road for access to the surrounding environs. The staff were helpful in making our stay enjoyable and recommended good restaurants. Breakfast was good with a wide and plentiful choice.

Review 116:We were visiting the Normandy area to see the world war two invasion beaches. We couldn't of been happier with our hotel. The location, next to the gorgeous cathedral, let you hear the beautiful bells ringing all day long. The staff recommended excellent places to eat and visit.

Review 117:Excellent and helpful staff. Arif, in particular, was friendly and really helped us out. Location was perfect for visiting Notre Dame, the Louvre and other sights.

Review 118:The hotel is located quite close to the cathedral (a must see); the location is very calm, and the staff is very helpful. I am not familiar with the French language, so I was really enjoyed meeting a staff speaking perfectly English.

Review 119:The walls are too thin, we could hear our neighbour snoring. be sure to take ear-plugs.

Review 120:Clean, comfy and right in the city center. Breakfast was very good for a 3star hotel, staff friendly and helpful. We parked at Eveche parking nearby and we got a parking ticket at the reception desk for free, so no need to book parking in advance nor pay anything.

Review 121:The hotel and it's staff are a credit to themselves they are helpful, polite and above all they are friendly which unfortunately can be hard to come by in France. They have a massive local knowledge. I can't give them enough praise it may only have 3 stars but was better than a lot of 4 and 5 stars I have stayed in.

Review 122:Pillows(bring your own), very thin walls so quite noisy for light sleepers.no fridge in room.

Review 123:Good size rooms, excellent for families. Friendly, knoligable day time reception. Evening staff unhelpful in the few occasions we needed basic information or help.

Review 124:The decor was very dated. Could do with a bit of freshen up. The dining room was very dark - white tablecloths rather than the brown ones would really brighten it up. Our bedroom was very dated indeed and the bathroom facilities weren't great. The shower hadn't been cleaned properly - had lots of black hair on the tiles - yuk! Having said that, the staff were lovely and very helpful - our children loved the life sized stuffed leopard in our room, but we weren't too enamoured with it!

Review 125:Location was excellent - only 2 minutes' walk from the centre of town.

Review 126:Pillows not great

Review 127:Room was perfect for us with bunk beds and a king. Great bathroom size and separate toilet. Very helpful staff. We didn't eat here, but had a night cap and paid in the honesty box.

The Fine Print
