Reviews for Casa Palacio Casa De Carmona
Review 1:Shame that the restaurant was closed but we were here in January and think we were the only guests.
Review 2:A truly beautiful and ancient building. Charmingly old fashioned . The complete antidote to the usual impersonal and sterile modern hotel. Very quiet. It was like having our own palace.
Review 3:Gracious old building with lovely touches. Friendly helpful staff and management. Delightfully quirky. Memories of a fine old traditional and Moorish style and architecture.
Review 4:as it is an old house you can't expect confort of a new 5 stars hotel. in november the price is good value for money
Review 5:very nice old building , hotel de charme in the center of the city
Review 6:Plumbing was deficient. Tub had no plug or stopper making a bath impossible. Only handheld shower (noplace to hold shower head). Bidet leaked onto floor. No fresh air, musty mouldy smelling air in room.
Review 7:Location, friendliness of staff, decoration. Breakfast.
Review 8:Nothing at all - only disappointed we didn't make the most of the facilities and stay longer.
Review 9:Hotel was a wonderful charm about it. The interior is breath-taking and the room we had was very opulent (in a nice way!). If you want to step back in time and indulge yourself this is the hotel for you. The manager or owner (Dutch man) was really friendly and helpful. We arrived quite late (even for Andalucian standards) and were afforded a very warm welcome and even a superb dinner.
Review 10:The hotel suited us but might not be to everyone's taste. The historic building is 400 years old and retains much of its old charm and decor - because of its age one has to expect a few minor problems. The plumbing is old too but it all works - just! The aristocratic owner treated us as one of the family and the food was great although the service was a bit slow from time to time. The dining room is 'to die for'.
Review 11:Look a little longer than a moment and you realise just how run down the bedrooms are. Our deluxe room no 2 had a loo that leaked, a shower that sent more water out of the join of the pipe and the head and over the top of the shower cubicle to the towels than down into the shower. The room was infested with sewage moth flies, we squashed over 50 and in doing so discovered that the walls of the room are actually rotten, push too hard and your finger goes straight through the skin of paint to nothing but rotten wood or decaying plaster from rising damp. It was drab, depressing and we couldn't wait to get home. We didn't try the breakfast at 15 euros each.
Review 12:Location, comfortable bed with good linen and plenty of hot water. The hotel looks lovely when you arrive.
Review 13:The hotel had style, the interior was unbelievably beautiful decorated tastefully, it was all about relaxation and great food. Can't wait to go back.
Review 14:Parking rather squeezy but very close. The owners can park if you need help. The building needs constant maintenance and it shows a little. But worth it for the character.
Review 15:Very pleasant building with lots of character. Attracts an interesting clientele who appreciate what it offers. Short walk to the fascinating town of Carmona and plenty of restaurants and bars. The owners were very welcoming and pleasant - shame we didn't get a chance to chat more.
Review 16:No prices on the menu made choosing dishes slightly awkward. Our maid didn't replenish toiletries without request, but once asked these were readily available.
Review 17:The peaceful ambience and pace. Friendly staff who would offer a personal service. A glimpse of palacios living and a lovely welcome with water and chocolate in our room.
Review 18:The docor that is very dated and the pictures in the advertising look to have been taken when the hotel was last updated.
Review 19:I liked the charm of the hotel, it's location is excellent.
Review 20:Deluxe room was very dark. Bathroom entrance up 2 deep steps, right on top of the bed. Basin leaked onto bathroom floor. Taps the wrong way round - hot tap was cold and vice versa. Shower curtain across bath was fixed either end, so immovable. Not easy to get out of the very deep bath with curtain in the way. Wifi stayed on all of 30 seconds, before dropping out. No safe in the room, although did not have a problem with items going missing. Pool had nowhere to sit around-very very small. Fixing the leak and fitting a proper shower rail would have made a big difference. I would have removed the sofa and turned the bed to face the windows to create more space for access to the bathroom. It didn't feel like a deluxe room.
Review 21:Location was great. The building itself was lovely, if very faded grandeur. Staff was friendly and helpful, although often hard to find. Bed comfortable and good air-conditioning in the room.
Review 22:Difficult to get to with a car because of the narrow streets. We parked in the centre and walked, about 5 minutes so not a big problem.
Review 23:Very nice old and interesting building. A nice style of hotel.
Review 24:None whatsoever
Review 25:The welcome, lovely people....genuine traditional family run hotel. Full of history and character. The breakfast was excellent...lovely service.
Review 26:Beautiful building, uniquely decorated and furbished rooms. The owners were very attentive, made us feel very at home , the evening meal and breakfast were first rate.
Review 27:We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed. Would loved to have seen the hotel in its 'hay day', a bit dated now needs some TLC.
Review 28:Lovely refreshing and cool swimming pool great relief from the summer heat. centrally placed to explore the town. Many bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Hotel had a vey relaxed atmosphere.
Review 29:There was nothing not to like! Amazing place and lovely people.
Review 30:What an amazing place - truly stunning and beautiful. The staff were really helpful and great hosts. We would definitely return again and again.
Review 31:This hotel really needs updating but very original & pretty, we left at 9.30am & still no sign of any breakfast, must be late starters.
Review 32:Good location in old town & owners very pleasant, easy walk to the bars, restaurants, churches & museums.
Review 33:Everyone should visit this fabulous hotel at least once in their lives! We had the most wonderful time exploring the palatial surroundings and cooling off poolside in the 41c heat! Felipe the owner was charming and we can't wait to return. Fabulous value and beyond romantic!
Review 34:Just sorry that the restaurant was not open when we stayed. As reviews had said the food was fabulous. Also some of the rooms were a bit musty, but that's because its a 15th century building.
Review 35:This beautiful hotel is so peaceful, its old world luxury with all the comforts of today. I felt we had the whole place to ourselves. Wandering around the courtyards, libraries, dining rooms is so amazing. The swimming pool was nice and cool during the day when it was too hot to wander around Carmona. The hotel is quirky and has its own ambiance and I just loved it.
Review 36:GPS directions led us down incredibly narrow streets. Almost scraped car despite the wing mirrors folded in. Best to go round the other way which leads from main road and not through the town. Restaurant was unexpectedly closed on night we were there which was a shame as it looks nice. However, were recommended to another little restaurant nearby which was fantastic.
Review 37:Lovely atmosphere. Beautiful bedroom. Very clean and comfortable. Great position. Lots of rooms to relax in.
Review 38:Mine host Felipe, custodian of this wonderful old building, keeping it alive for others to enjoy, quirky at times, but altogether a wonderful place to stay, our 3rd visit, we will be back, Felipe loves Marks and Spencer tea, take a box, he will love you forever! Peace and tranquility in a wonderful setting.
Review 39:The palace has such character and charm. It does not feel like a hotel at all - rather you stay in indivudual rooms in a real palace, with libraries and sitting rooms separating your room from the other parts of the house. There are inner courtyards full of plants, wonderful period artwork all throughout the palace, and a fantastically beautiful dining room with life-sized paintings of horses on the walls. The dinner menu is excellent, as are the wines - ask for the Ribera del Duero, it is superb. The rooms are all different, all are decorated in a different way, with luxurious bathtubs and furnishings. My room had a very high ceiling, which added to the feeling of staying in an old palace. The owner, Don Felipe, is an erudite and enchanting host, and he makes you feel like part of his aristocratic family. A more agreeable man is dfficult to find, and his English is excellent. We were all so charmed by the atmosphere and ambience in this palace, so very different and slightly eccentric in the best possible way. We are planning to return next year, as the Casa de Carmona was the highlight of our visit there. Much more charming than the parador!
Review 40:restaurant expensive and can be avoided
Review 41:very good furniture and materials used, generosity of space transmit a sensation of privacy in an aristocratic setting. clearly different from many hotels
Review 42:Lack of in house information in the room. Access to the Hotel was a challenge, I had no idea it was in the old walled perhaps I missed the details on the internet. Bath wobbles when holding water (funny feeling, like being at sea.
Review 43:The building was very nice and the staff very good and helpful. The accommodation was very good. We would have liked a longer stay.
Review 44:Unfortunately the restaurant was busy and the meal could have been better but the manager explained why and more than made up for this both in the price and extra drinks.
Review 45:The experience of staying in an old palace was great.
Review 46:We think the price for the room as for dinner were absolutely correct. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels but honestly are a little bit bored by the lack of personality and inspiration in some of them. This hotel is not perfect: it is not run by a large company but by two people who live for their dream of receiving people in this charming hotel. One cannot apply the same hard standards for a multinational hotel chain to a charm hotel owned by a couple with a family and a history attached to the hotel. Our room was charming and very clean, the bed was excellent, there was no noise: absolute peacefulness in the hotel, the staff was sincerely kind and very very helpful, breakfast was very good. We had a very good glass of white wine on the nice patio (finishing it in one of the beautifully decorated foyers), followed by an honest meal. We both agree that this moment of relaxed emersion in spanish culture was one of the best moments of our trip.
Review 47:If going when its Easter make sure you go round to the hotel by car by the north side of town and not through centre as Police wont let you through. Can end up with a long uphill walk otherwise.
Review 48:Lovely bedroom and furnishings, great public areas to relax in, staff
Review 49:Humidity in the room. The breakfast at 15 euro per person.
Review 50:The house is very beautiful and keeper as it was. Carmona is a great city and the palacio is a perfect base to visit
Review 51:The restaurants were much too cold. Breakfast at 15 euro each a bit pricy. The hotel is a little tired. Does not deserve 5 Stars. Would be more comfortable in the warmer weather.
Review 52:The staff were excellent and William was so helpful nothing was to much trouble. Parking on site is good. Good location. Pet friendly. Plenty of hot water.
Review 53:Since it is an old building, wifi was only available downstairs in the library. Lighting was a bit dim there for reading.
Review 54:Large comfortable old century style rooms giving you a feeling of the times. Much nicer than a more modern room. Since we were there in low season in the beginning of jan, it was quiet and the restaurant which appeared very elegant was closed and we ate in the cozy bar area. The five star hotel is in the heart of the small quaint town of Carmona and a short 30 km from Seville. we enjoyed the quiet of the small town and just outside was the fantastic view of the valley. Staff were so personable and accomodating. We were also able to get free parking across the street. You can also opt to get just coffee for breakfast instead of either a continental or full breakfast which was a nice option.
Review 55:We thoroughly enjoyed this unique casa..the atmosphere, decor and very pleasant staff. Highly recommend it as a place to stay. Ideal location for exploring the wonderful town of Carmona. We look forward to staying again in the near future.
Review 56:I guess the hotel rating 5***** is rather exaggerated(at least thestreet level rooms). It would need a general facelift, starting withplugs , walls, tiles, etc and also cleaning. But still- the hotel has itscharm, it is really a romantic palace.
Review 57:A perfect location in the old town of Carmona. A very comfortable bed.The heating was working(other areas in the hotel pretty cold, typicalfor December Andalusia). We had a room on the street level , Nr 2. Youcan park for free in front of the Irish Pub near the hotel, some100metres(or for 10e next to the hotel).
Review 58:Restaurant and bar closed so had to go out even to get a cup of tea; Public rooms freezing cold; Inadequate light to read in bedroom; Erratic heating and hot water; Room needed some maintenance work
Review 59:Elegant building Charming staff Beautiful bedroom Carmona is a fascinating town and the Casa is in an ideal position
Review 60:Nothin
Review 61:The helpfulness of the staff, the room was large with a king size 4 poster bed, large bathroom had both bath & shower - the hotel had the feel of family as the owners actually do live there!! The open courtyard & multiple public areas of the hotel were great
Review 62:Nothing not to like
Review 63:It was all absolutely gorgeous - from the moment we walked in we felt as if we´d fallen into a Visconti film. We had a superb room, tastefully furnished - enormous - it feels like staying in somebody´s home (which it is of course) not to be missed.
Review 64:We went in November and the place seemed empty; despite the size we were almost the only ones staying. Maybe in summer it might be more lively. Meals were OK but being the only people in vast dining rooms there was little atmosphere.
Review 65:It was like going back in time: great halls and dining areas; nice spacious room; well located in the old town of Carmona.
Review 66:It seemed a little tired, and maybe in need of some minor repairs, in some areas.
Review 67:All in all it was pretty good, staff were nice, location to main attractions good. Carmona is a nice relaxing town.
Review 68:The man at the bar charged me 3 times the going rate for a glass of beer. I was so shocked I paid! And then went into the town and had some more!
Review 69:The location - in the heart of the old town of Carmona. Within walking distance of the Parador and the views across the plain.
Review 70:Cannot think of a single fault.
Review 71:The Casa Palacio is a beautiful historic mansion that is a pleasure to stay in. We felt like guests of the owners rather than than tourists. We decided to extend our stay there due to the warm welcome from the couple who own and run the Casa. The interiors are furnished with beautiful paintings and prints, objets d'art, furniture and art books and the many restful rooms for sitting and reading encouraged the use of the Casa. Breakfast in the loggia next to the pool was an event in itself and the meal we had on our last night there was wonderful. Also excellent restaurants nearby in the town. Carmona is somewhere we will return to again and again and its Casa Palacio will be one of the main reasons.
Review 72:This was a wonderful place. There is nothing to dislike.
Review 73:The inkeeper, Felipe, the gorgeous art books, the elegant old world ambiance, the delious breakfast, the Ganesh in the solarium, the ginat bathtub and old-fashioned chrome fixtures, the calming and kind atmosphere.
Review 74:The hotel is unique and a real experience. It is family run and the attitude of the staff is friendly and helpful. Our stay was fabulous and we will definitely be back.
Review 75:Great location, very pleasant and attentive staff
Review 76:Bathroom needed some refurbishment
Review 77:General ambience
Review 78:Wifi takes a bit of managing
Review 79:Like Fawlty Towers but without the sea view
Review 80:The character and style of the building, the fixtures and fittings and the warmth of the welcome
Review 81:the building and furniture are a bit worn out
Review 82:The palace's historical architecture and feel
Review 83:Quirky, very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. They sorted out a massage for me which was excellent.
Review 84:no minibar no english or german tv no wifi
Review 85:Beautiful building, spotless rooms and exceptionally warm and helpful staff. I have already booked to return next month
Review 86:Too noisy while early risers p Woke up.
Review 87:Difficult to find
Review 88:Ambience
Review 89:Wonderful building. Great rooms. Lovely owner, English spoken.
Review 90:None
Review 91:The building, decoration, the luxe, just all
Review 92:Incredibly welcoming atmosphere and a most memorable meal in the elegant dining room. Don't miss!
Review 93:That I couldn't stay longer.
Review 94:Hospitality & Welcome
Review 95:having to leave !!
Review 96:The individuality of the rooms, the lovely ambiance and historical touch, besides the lovely owners.
Review 97:Parking charged without warning
Review 98:Classy architecture and decor
Review 99:small, personalised hotel dripping in antiques and history. Large suite and bathroom
Review 100:interesting historic building, helpful staff, easy to see the sights.
Review 101:Location, hard to get to by car, poor parking, lift would be convenient,
Review 102:Amazing Palace, so full of history
Review 103:Bed too hard
Review 104:Owner/wife Peace Location
Review 105:Location Building Decor Atmosphere
Review 106:Gorgeous historic setting (originally built in 1417), large and comfortable bedroom with access to library and game rooms, in walking distance of plaza, tower, necropolis; quiet and comfortable, and with a very helpful and friendly staff. One of our special memories on a 3-week vacation in Andalucia is Casa De Carmona.
Review 107:shower not so hot
Review 108:A simply fantastic place to stay- a beautiful palace with large bedrooms and an attractive courtyard. I think most of the people who have given this place bad reviews have been expecting something else- this is not a typical 5-star hotel with legions of attentive staff. The owners are extremely accommodating but seem to basically run everything themselves, which only adds to the charm, in my book. For the money you are paying, it's simply amazing value.
Review 109:Nothing.
Review 110:We just loved the whole atmosphere of the hotel, everywhere was a delight especially the pool. The staff were just amazing, they made the faded grandeur feel relaxed and comfortable. The driving directions to Seville were perfect. Great position and easy parking. 2 restaurant recommendations were great. So pleased we stayed in Carmona rather than Seville.
Review 111:My parents and I have spent 10 days travelling through Andalucia and found Casa De Carmona to be our favourite hotel by far. From the friendliness of the owners and staff to the character of the place, this hotel stands out. From the sitting room to the rooms, from the courtyard to the entrance and the bar, the place really captured a feeling of yesteryear and the andalucian way of life.
Review 112:A place with unique atmosphere. If you want to experience Andalucia this is the place. In the hotel we felt like home - serviced without too much fuss. We stayed 5 night and every day the room was cleaned. It is true that there were some ants and even a small lizard but in my opinion this can only benefit to the whole atmosphere - after all this is an authentic small village casa.
Review 113:A bit awkward to get to down narrow streets, but worth it. Dining room rather dark so had breakfast at local bar.
Review 114:Stunning building, beautiful, spacious room. Very pleasant owners. Pleasant walk to old town square past historic buildings.
Review 115:As a family home open to paying guests to help pay the mortgage, it was inevitably distinctly "worn at the edges", which was quite understandable. Philipe and Reyes (owners) were quite charming, and anxious to please. The art books in our suite gave us a feel of sleeping in an art reference library, which was so different from a commercial hotel
Review 116:Please see below - it belongs here!
Review 117:I wouldn't normally do something like this but I have to say that my stay in Casa De Carmona was fabulous. Situated right in the old part of Carmona but in a very quiet square it is perhaps one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. I had a beautiful room with lots of little details that showed lots of loving care and attention. The staff were very helpful and really looked after us. I loved the sitting room they provide and I sat in there in the evening after dinner with a glass of wine in my hand and just enjoyed the pure tranquillity of the place and the atmosphere. Carmona is also a place not to miss. I lived in Andalucia many years ago and it was lovely to go back to the town....its one of the gems that many people still don't know about.
Review 118:Parking is limited. Not a problem for us but something guests visiting during the height of season should know about in advance.
Review 119:Gorgeous historic facility with congenial staff and gourmet cuisine.
Review 120:Quirky hotel, with Felipe the owner being as equally quirky, made very welcome, so much so we have booked again next month! Great fun, faded glory, in the centre of Carmona
Review 121:Needs a lot of maintenance update. Our room wasn't very clean and the bathroom moldy in some areas. The shower drain was clogged with visible hairs.
Review 122:Beautiful hotel with lots of charming.
Review 123:We were there in August and the place seemed totally deserted.Just one staff-member (who was very helpfull), we had to figure things out oureselves. Many ants and bugs in the room. Not so clean.
Review 124:Beautifull place, impressive. Pool was great, as the temperature in Carmona in August is extremely high. Our hostess was most friendly and helpfull.
