Reviews for Hostal Marques de Zahara

Review 1:Our bathroom was basic but clean and perhaps is ready for upgrading.

Review 2:Character of this small white village and the hotel's location in the centre of it with views of the lake made our visit very enjoyable. The interior of the hotel is quirky and typical Spanish with a lounge below a high staircase with attractive climbing plants. Evening meal was very good and a good choice of cereals and toast was available for breakfast. Highly recommended.

Review 3:Quite a lot of outdated things: toilet that cannot flush paper, separate faucets for hot and cold water, a bathroom window that cannot open just a bit. No map handed out of the area. The explanation and accurate drawing I received regarding the location of the bus station was off by a hundred meters or so, meaning I had to sprint to catch the bus - fortunately it had to do a three-point-turn, otherwise I'd have missed it (and it was the second of the two per day).

Review 4:Good location, helpful staff, decent breakfast.

Review 5:bathroom was very clean yet a bit smelly (sewage water).

Review 6:Friendly staff. Located in the center of the town. Public parking available not too far away (400m or so). Breakfast was good and convenient.

Review 7:building a little bit old but OK owner does not give a lot of information (tourist office is closed)

Review 8:in the middle of a white village couple of bars / restaurants at 200m nice walk to the castle / walking trails good breakfast / coffee

Review 9:The hostal is right in the centre of Zahara. When we were there, there was a festival with lots of candles on the main square and everybody about in white clothing. We were right in the middle of it. There is parking on the central square, but not during festival days, and you have to be prepared to navigate steep narrow alleys!

Review 10:- Room kind of small for two guests... - Smell coming from the bathroom everytime the window was closed. - Few electrical points in the room.

Review 11:- Great location in the heart of Zahara.

Review 12:If you are a light sleeper ask for a room that does not have main street view as during the night it can get noisy.

Review 13:Great value for money in the very center of an amazing little village with great views. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the place looks like an authentic Spanish villa. Great!

Review 14:Only little downside was that there was not enough pressure in the shower

Review 15:Very friendly and helpful owner! Basic but spacious room. There is a very nice atmosphere in this hotel, it has plenty of character. The location is great in the centre of Zahara. Beautiful environment.

Review 16:The landlord was very friendly, helpful and accomodating. I asked for a bigger bed before arriving and got one as soon as i got there. Location is excellent. Free parking. Wifi was good. Comfortable beds with much needed air con. Breakfast was good. Id definitely return.

Review 17:there was a very small problem with one of the rooms with the pluming but was sorted immediately and without any fuss.. so no complaints at all,

Review 18:the owner was very pleasant and helpful, and the evening meal we all had was good value and delightful, we have stayed at other places in de zahara but would return here first if available.

Review 19:Shower water pressure was low Wi-Fi data connection was little unreliable to start with but improved during our four day stay.

Review 20:Very conveniently located at the top of the village in the middle of it all. Mr. Santiago was very helpful in all respects including detailed instructions on how to get to our desired walks. Breakfast was simple but sufficient with excellent coffee. Comfortable bed.

Review 21:No real sense of welcome in this hotel; rather dour, minimal interactionwith Manager during our entire stay. Lack of the usual information atCheck-In, guests might usually receive. Information about breakfastoptions, as our rate was 'Room Only.' Room requested, as per anemail update after booking, was not acted upon. On arrival, the Twinroom allocated was not suitable. An alternative Double room was offered, although was distinctly very small for two guests. Bathroom requiresupdating and repairs to water pressures, as the fluctuations in thetemperatures of hot water, was dangerously hot at times. Water pressurein toilet was annoying. Policy regarding the key was not explained; thusa sense of inconvenience, when returning late to the hotel. Notrelaxing! Few electrical points in Room 204.

Review 22:Absolutely loved the location of this hotel

Review 23:Just a shame that the restaurant had few diners and was not open every night.

Review 24:Much improved since our stay 3 years ago - new management. Plentiful buffet breakfast and excellent coffee; enjoyed good dinner in the hostal restaurant. Central situation in Zahara. Staff extremely helpful and accommodated extra requests eg re-froze our food storage cold blocks in hostal freezer.

Review 25:The location is brilliant (right in the centre of town). The room was nice and big and the heating enough to stay warm at night in winter. Santi (the owner/manager) was brilliant. He drew me a map and sent me on my way walking from Zahara to El Bosque along the back roads. The breakfast was big and filling (cereal, orange juice, toast with lots of differen jams/spreads, fruit, coffee and tea)

Review 26:the heating made our stay uncomfortable, it was really cold inside and the heating system is not good enough for the cold days in december

Review 27:the staff is nice and the place is not bad, simple but with all the needs except good heating system

Review 28:location - beautiful "pueblo blanco" in the Sierras (scenic and very Spanish) with a castle on top a little bit away from the beaten tourist tracks very nice old building in the middle of the town (very Spanish, too) liked the atmosphere nice staff, too

Review 29:Zahara as a village. nice people good prices nice walks

Review 30:Noisy - from bars nearby.

Review 31:Location, cleanliness and restaurant downstairs.

Review 32:Shower needs repair. Updating bathroom is necessary.

Review 33:Santiago was very friendly and accommodating. Nice public space. Room was comfortable.

Review 34:Central location

Review 35:The hotel owner did not say a word. We had to give the key at the reception even for a small walk. Breakfast was poor.

Review 36:Location is great. Managers of the hotel were helpful and welcoming. Rooms are cozy and equiped with everything that an average toursit may need.

Review 37:Great location

Review 38:Lack of parking - car park is a long walk from hotel. Old fashioned, gloomy decor

Review 39:Central location overlooking main street

Review 40:Location was perfect, just in the main street of Zahara with all facilities close. Having our breakfast at the courtyard was a nice suprise :D

Review 41:Nothing at all

Review 42:Great price for a private room, very professional hotelier and a lovely breakfast. Smack in the middle of town (village)

Review 43:Nice little girl on the main Street, manager did everything he could to make our stay good. Thanks

Review 44:Beds.

Review 45:Location, staff and free wifi. Public parking right outside. Breakfast at the local bar very close.

Review 46:The owner is a gentleman. The location is awesome.

Review 47:simple clean friendly great location loved it

Review 48:I noticed quite a few ants in the bathroom.

Review 49:The staff were extremely helpful & always had a smile on their face.

Review 50:Fantastic little hilltop town, one of our favourites places in Spain. We were welcomed by the manager who took good care of us. Rooms were comfortable and I liked the ambience and style and decor of the Hostal. Just what you would expect in the countryside. Had tapas and drinks at the restaurant across the street, was served by friendly locals and wished we had more time to explore the town.

Review 51:Nothing.

Review 52:Superb value for money. Excellent large room with double bed and en suite bathroom. plenty of hot water. Owner very friendly. Hostal was on a street with 3 or 4 bars but wasn't noisy during my stay. Breakfast was at a restaurant 20 metres down the street- basic but perfectly adequate.

Review 53:Bar directly opposite very noisy, had to go across the road to a cafe for breakfast, no food in the hotel, only 2 places in village open for dinner!!

Review 54:Lovely typical Spanish hotel in a pleasant village

Review 55:Absolutely nothing

Review 56:The location is awesome, in the best street of Zahara. The personnel are awesome. Very comfortable and clean. Just try it, it is great.

Review 57:Very noisy in street as we stayed on a Saturday night after a triathlon, so not much sleep. Breakfast basic toast , juice and coffee but not too bad really.

Review 58:Central location and value for money.

Review 59:Figuring out parking was confusing - Zahara de la Frontera is a very old, very little town in a very hilly region and there are no easy-to-read street signs.

Review 60:We loved the friendliness and helpfulness everywhere we went. When we asked directions, a man walked us up the steep hill and took us to the hotel door. The hotel had called us ahead of time to caution that a fiesta would be in progress during our stay and it would be noisy - to our surprise and delight, that man was our waiter the night of the fiesta and he took very good care of us. Our room was very clean and comfortable, it was an extraordinary treat to be participants in the fiesta, tapas were indescribably delicious, the region is indescribably beautiful, and the weather was perfect, and the churches were more than worth the effort to see them. Strongly recommend this pleasant hotel in a very charming community.

Review 61:the owner/receptionist besides making a wonderful coffee has given us plenty of advice on further travelling, extremely helpful, lovely breakfast area, spacious room and excellent tapas directly opposite the hostel!

Review 62:staff can speak very little English, my window was overlooking a narrow street with a small building site opposite (noise)

Review 63:Location, friendly owner, good speed WiFi

Review 64:The dining room was not yet open but there are good restaurants nearby. Breakfast not too good.

Review 65:Ideal location in the village main street with own balcony. Very large room with nice bathroom Spacious atrium. Friendly and helpful manager

Review 66:Perfect location in the heart of the town. The staff is very helpfull and is is able to offer nice, welcoming atmosphere.

Review 67:Clean, good location and value for money. Spectacular region

Review 68:It was welcoming to tourists without being touristy. Proprietor was very attentive. It was authentic.

Review 69:breakfast was included in my booking, wifi in the rooms

Review 70:The staff speaks only Portuguese, the communication was difficult.

Review 71:Nice staircase, friendly personnel

Review 72:Nothing at all.

Review 73:We like the staff, the rooms, the friendly people and the location.
