Reviews for Hôtel d'Argouges

Review 1:Cannot say one bad thing!

Review 2:I loved Hôtel d'Argouges! The staff was friendly and super helpful. The hotel was beautiful and clean. The location was fabulous!

Review 3:Concierge staff was very friendly and helpful. Hotel is charming and very well located, in easy walking distance to the center of town and many restaurants.

Review 4:Not a big deal but the bathroom light turns on automatically when you walk in so the light shines on other guests in the room. Of course, extremely minor compared to the over all greatness of this hotel.

Review 5:Hotel is close to everything, restaurants, shops, etc. We stayed in the main house which is off the street. They had off street parking. The house itself looks amazing from the outside. Inside was just as amazing. The room (one double, one twin bed) was nice. Nice modern bathroom. View of the garden. Quiet at night. I didn't hear any other guests through our room. Slept well. Frederic was an awesome host. So helpful. He was very patient with us, took the time to give us suggestions for dinner, day trips, etc. Even made a dinner reservation for us. Pierrette was super nice as well. We even accidentally broke a chair in our room which we were completely willing to pay for but they didn't charge us. I can't recommend this hotel enough. Don't hesitate to stay here. I will stay here again when traveling back to the area.

Review 6:The bed could have been a bit more comfortable.

Review 7:Had a wonderful time in Bayeux. The hotel is across the street from city Centre which becomes an open market on Saturday. Quite a treat to brows thru the stalls. Hotel staff was very accommodating. Beautiful breakfast room.

Review 8:Tea/ coffee facilities in rooms would make it even better.

Review 9:Beautiful hotel in great location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.

Review 10:"Staff not too friendly. Sent us to a restaurant that was closed. Did not go out of their way to welcome us.

Review 11:Quaint old hotel in the middle of Bayuex. Breakfast was good. Rooms clean and comfortable.

Review 12:Not a fan of continental breakfast in general, but it was fine at the hotel

Review 13:The hotel is in the center of town and near many places to eat or drink. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Driving in Normandy is easy from the town of Bayeux.

Review 14:The staff were accommodating and pleasant, and even mailed us our camera battery and charger that we left by accident! They went above and beyond for us.

Review 15:Note that there is no elevator and you will have to walk up a few flights of stairs. Breakfast was also pricey (we chose to eat elsewhere).

Review 16:Very nice historic hotel in a good location in the center, yet quiet. Plenty of parking. Nice garden. Staff gave a good dinner recommendation and all spoke good English.

Review 17:No elevator, so we carried our bags up 4 flights of stairs - but that is not uncommon for older hotels.

Review 18:Beautiful entrance and gardens, great parking behind the hotel. It reminds me of a great manor house. Great location for walking around the town. The staff suggested two good restaurants that were open on Sunday night - most were closed.

Review 19:The twin room we had in the annexe was pleasant but small - no room to sit on the chairs provided.

Review 20:Very well situated on edge of town centre, easy to walk to restaurants tapestry etc. Secure parking. Very attractive building and rooms.

Review 21:Wifi was not available in some rooms although it was advertised. Wifi, where available, was restricted to one device per room. It was not convenient to have to use common space to obtain wifi when traveling and needing to make reservations and plans. Nor was it good to not be informed that a real wifi problem existed when discussing the issue with staff. Management is hoping that wifi access to all rooms will be improved in the future. Breakfast buffet cost was a bit steep for the limited choices.

Review 22:Great location in town, easy to walk to restaurants and shops. Lovely historic main building with sufficient updating to make it comfortable. Tranquil garden provides a wonderful space for relaxing. Be aware there is no elevator and so suitcases must be carried up stairs. Availability of on site free parking was excellent

Review 23:Looks good from the outside but that is where it ends. Quite a depressing hotel inside with very poor decor. It is basically a cheap hotel using its age and so called antiquity to cover up its shortcoming's would not stay there again. Much better hotels nearby.

Review 24:The parking was good.

Review 25:The staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was good, and the hotel has private parking on site. The location is great, right in the heart of Bayeux and a short walk to restaurants, shopping, and the Cathedral.

Review 26:The most quaint hotel in Bayeaux! Loved the rooms, the breakfast, and the courtyard in back. Will definitely be back to stay at this little gem! Great walking location to restaurants and shops. Highly recommend!

Review 27:Frederique, at the reception desk, was very informative and most accomodating. He made us feel very welcome and wanted our short visit to be pleasurable. We stayed in apartment 27 and enjoyed a large interior room with a modern, well appointed washroom. The anteroom, however, was small with 2 twin beds and a WC. Our friends found it to be noisy in the morning. The breakfast was served in a lovely room, overlooking a garden, and was substantial enough by French standards.

Review 28:For the price, we think breakfast should be included.

Review 29:The setting of the hotel with its flowered terrace in back was quite charming. The hotel reception staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were there on a Saturday, so we were right across the street from the market and a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. Great location.

Review 30:The hotel atmosphere was vintage quality. You felt like you were stepping back in time, yet the bathrooms were all updated, so showers, sinks and toilets were quite modern. The bedrooms were a little dated, but that added to the sense of being back in time.

Review 31:We felt that the breakfast buffet was a bit overpriced.

Review 32:The staff was friendly and very helpful. Bed was great, and nice to have free parking. Also nice that they fixed us coffee 'to go' on our early departure.

Review 33:Room a little dated. All outlets recessed so bring a round adapter.

Review 34:Location was great. Main building and gardens very nice. Liked that it had free parking. Staff friendly. Nice buffet breakfast. Room big enought for 3. Nice updated bathroom.

Review 35:The hotel is in the heart of town and a short walk to the Bayeux tapestry and great restaurants. Our accommodations were the 2 bedroom apartment with a bath. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The owners were lovely and suggested wonderful restaurants. The morning breakfast was an additional charge, but worth it! We would stay here again!

Review 36:A bit far from the main town restaurants.

Review 37:Characterful chateau style hotel with high ceilings, comfortable beds and an excellent bathroom in our apartment. Good breakfast.

Review 38:We had the uppermost family room, which is beautiful, and we loved it! Just one warning: be careful not to bump your head. This room has a slanted ceiling (following the slanted roof) due to being the top floor. Just watch your head.

Review 39:This was one of the most charming hotels I've stayed in. We loved it!!

Review 40:If you are a woman bring your own hair dryer Towels a bit thread bare No safe or fridge in room

Review 41:Very helpful staff knowledgable on area Recommended good quality value for money restaurants Good free parking and garden areas

Review 42:Early noise from stalls setting up on market day. Lack of room in lounge for evening drinks.

Review 43:Location & free parking. French style with modern convenience.

Review 44:Access to the free WiFi was limited to one person per room which is pretty poor.

Review 45:Staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. There was an ample amount of free parking considering the hotel was in the centre of the city.

Review 46:Beautiful house and garden without being too stuffy or child-unfriendly. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent buffet breakfast. On site parking. Great location on old market square in centre Bayeux.

Review 47:Our second visit to this hotel, and every bit as lovely as we remember it. Beautiful and comfortable accommodation in the heart of Bayeux. Delicious breakfast - I was actually woken in the morning by the smell of freshly baked croissants and bread wafting through the window! Parking was very easy too, round the back of the property.

Review 48:our room in annexe maybe lacked character compared with rooms in main house. Thought we were getting a bath, but only had a shower. otherwise fabulous

Review 49:comfortable, great staff

Review 50:There was an issue with the booking. My brother and I were travelingtogether so I requested a room with twin beds. When we arrived, therewas an error (either on my end, the hotel's end, or fromBooking.com) and we were in a room with a double bed only. I asked ifthere were any other rooms and one of the women - the manager (?) - wasvery curt saying "That was not on your booking. I checked it twice. You didn't put that on your booking." I asked if there was anyway we could have a cot or something, and she firmly stated no. When Igot back to the room with the news, my brother had been looking at thebed. It was actually twin beds that were pushed together and made upwith one set of double/queen sheets. We separated the beds...ta da.Not that big of a deal. I don't know why the staff made such a bigdeal - there were twin beds in the room already. *When we moved thebeds, there were dirty/used tissues underneath. That could have beenthe reason.

Review 51:The staff were initially helpful when we arrived. They were helpful insecuring a taxi when we left.

Review 52:The hotel is beautiful. It is an old chateau from before the Revolution. The setting is gorgeous. It has a great backyard and gardens. The staff is extremely accommodating and helpful. I would stay here again and wish I were able to stay longer.

Review 53:Thought breakfast should have been included in price. Standard Double room a bit on the small side

Review 54:Staff friendly and helpful. Good location to visit Cathedral and Tapestry.

Review 55:A little far away from the train station. Also bathroom shower was a little bizarre because we were on top floor.

Review 56:The overall feel of The hotel was lovely - staff very accommodating.

Review 57:We stayed in a 2-bedroom suite which had plenty of room for our family of 4 (children ages 9 and 12); this was a charming place with friendly, helpful, English-speaking staff. Centrally located for easy walking to shops, restaurants, cathedral, museum. Staff helped secure cabs for ventures outside of town.

Review 58:The wifi access in the second bedroom (with twin bed's) didn't work as well as in the first bedroom (full size bed). It was cold and rainy when we got there, and we would have liked to have been able to turn on the heat, but we were told we could not.

Review 59:We loved the atmosphere of this hotel, it has been well maintained and was very clean. The apartment we rented had two bedrooms and lots of space. Bathroom had a bathtub with a handheld shower head which worked well. The grounds and patio were beautifully maintained, the hotel set back off the street and very private. The breakfast room was absolutely lovely and the breakfast very good with breads, bakery goods, cereals juices, coffee, fruit, eggs and a meat selection.

Review 60:The hotel was positioned on the main high street yet the actual building was set back and accessed by a short drive way. Initial impressions were that we were staying in a French Chateau . Well kept gardens with a pleasant sitting area. Plenty of off road parking. Free WFI easily accessible. Comfortable bedrooms.

Review 61:Our room backed on to a yard which was the back of a bar/restaurant which was noisy.

Review 62:Location excellent in middle of town with easy access to Bayeux Tapestry.

Review 63:Bedroom and bathroom furnishings and fittings could be of a higher standard. Coffee / tea making facility's in room would have been nice.

Review 64:Location is great, town centre and v quiet set back in its own courtyard. lovely building and garden.

Review 65:We were on the third floor. A walk up. Expected prettier, it was ok, but lots of space. Like a three room suite. Nice update to an old building. Staff fabulous. Beautiful garden. Location perfect.

Review 66:avoid rooms on top floor. no shower just bathtub with hand held shower head. Ceiling so low that you couldn't stand up.

Review 67:Good location, nice staff, historic hotel

Review 68:Lack of tea making facilities in room and free Wi-fi limited to one log in per room

Review 69:Lovely hotel in a good location, tastefully converted and with a private garden for guests.

Review 70:This is a lovely comfortable Boutique hotel. The garden is a delightful place to relax in the early evening, and the staff were incredibly helpful. I was particularly impressed that they emailed in advance to tell us that our room would be on the 3rd floor with no lift so they'd help us with our bags. This allowed us to plan accordingly.

Review 71:It is hard to complain about Hotel d'Argouges as it was wonderful. I would have appreciated being able to have scrambled or fried eggs in the morning. Also, there asked you to register only one email address for access to WiFi, when there were two of us.

Review 72:Hotel d'Argouges was our favorite hotel in Europe. It was like living in a secluded French Manor House in the middle of the city. The accommodations, parking, service, amenities were all wonderful. We would definitely go back and stay longer.

Review 73:Room is too small and tight. Shower head doesn't work well.

Review 74:Good location. Friendly helpful staff. Purchased tickets from hotel staff for the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay which saved us from standing in line ups. Air conditioning. Lots of plugin outlets for devices. Wifi. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops outside of the hotel including a food market. Small fridge available in the room.

Review 75:This is a beautiful hotel, with a stunning terrace, and the staff were very friendly. One of the most welcoming hotels that we've stayed at in France!

Review 76:We had two different rooms and the water pressure was not great in one of the rooms, but those types of things will happen in historic types of buildings like this. Don't expect "Hilton" type consistency.

Review 77:The hotel is in a beautiful old building in the heart of Bayeux. The lobby and breakfast area are charming and the rooms are all different, having been converted from an former expansive residence. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 78:Shower could have a place for soap and other toiletries; just a minor detail.

Review 79:Antony gave us excellent advice on what to do and where to go! Staff made dinner reservations for us. Restaurants they recommended had delicious food. The garden is lovely. A wonderful stay because of their professionalism. Breakfast was great. A great way to start our vacation!

Review 80:The Wifi never worked and the hotel's location is several blocks from the central part of town. Tiny shelf space in the bathroom.

Review 81:The staff were incredibly kind and 2 women carried our bags up two flights of stairs. Parking is free behind the hotel.

Review 82:Rooms had no tea/coffee facilities Décor in room was outdated

Review 83:Location was great, on the Bayeux main road The building and the grounds were very picturesque, great outside space for drinks Staff were very helpful, recommending very good restaurant

Review 84:Stayed in apartment. Floors very creaky. Only had tub with hand shower. Could have used a shower curtain. 13,50 euro for average buffet breal fast . Went around corner to bolongerie and bought delicious croissants instead.

Review 85:Good location. Not expensive .friendly staff.

Review 86:Couldn't drink the cider we had purchased in the garden, not enough seats in the bar, nothing special about breakfast, no shower only a tub, wifi expired after a few hours and had to ask for new codes.

Review 87:Location, size of room, on site parking.

Review 88:Wifi code only worked on one device.

Review 89:Old charm with modern conveniences and upgrades throughout the hotel. Charming garden. Ample covered parking. Friendly staff have us a free upgrade to a large apartment.

Review 90:No safes in the rooms (but the desk would hold your valuables for you in their safe).

Review 91:Great location with an old European feel. Rooms were small, but efficient. Very clean and solid service by the staff.

Review 92:The only cautionary note would be for people who cannot manage steps or stairs easily to think carefully before staying here.

Review 93:A good spot in Bayeux, easy to find and easy to park without going through the centre of Bayeux. A short walk down into town. Very welcoming in all respects. Staff friendly and helpful. Bar and breakfast perfectly OK. A pleasant room and bathroom, adequately equipped.

Review 94:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We arrived late but the staff received us graciously. Our room was very charming, clean and comfortable. It was walking distance to the cathedral and a bit further to the Tapestry Museum.

Review 95:Free WiFi was spotty so not great if you are there for business.

Review 96:Staff was very helpful. Room was incredible and quiet (though we had the master suite). Grounds were beautiful. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

Review 97:The staff were marvellous. We arrived in the pouring rain in open top cars and they found us dry garaging. They could not have been more helpful. The rooms were very good, and the breakfast excellent. The hotel is adjacent a very nice square and 10 minutes from the Cathedral and the quite superb Bayeux tapestry; which you must vsit and take the audio guide. A lovely place.

Review 98:We loved the quaintness, but with that brings no elevator and the steep winding, narrow staircase is not easy when one overpacks! Our fault, not theirs!

Review 99:This was a lovely, quaint, clean, and comfortable hotel. The staff was welcoming and helpful.

Review 100:It was a beautiful facility and our room had a beautiful view. It was easy to walk to most parts of town and there was a place to park our car. The staff was very helpful in getting our bags to our room and in arranging tours.

Review 101:Great location in Bayeaux, first French town liberated by troops. Free, secure parking. Easy walk to see famous tapestry, bakeries, shops, etc. Fun Saturday market across the street from the hotel.

Review 102:Unreliable internet and only for 1 device at a time. Needs improvement. Shower not hot or strong enough. Need outlet at head of bed.

Review 103:Location, staff, cleanliness of room and bath, bedding, size of room, bath.

Review 104:Shower plumbing difficult to use. Had to use a cloth to get a firm enough grip on the turn knobs. Took some time to figure out how to use the system. Nothing bad, just not user friendly.

Review 105:Good location, beautiful property, adequate breakfast, clean

Review 106:The only imperfection was the ceiling height in the top apartment. It was too low for a tall person however, the beams are part of the authenticity so we must manage.

Review 107:The bed was uncomfortable. We had the handicapped room that fronted the street. We had vinyl flooring, no rug. It wasn't comfortable.

Review 108:Location and parking. Bathroom was newly remodeled.

Review 109:The lack of comfortable chair(s) if the bedroom - the probition of wine in the bedroom is juvenile especially for adiults who wish a an aperitif in quiet while dressing for dinner or before retiring and the prohibition of coffee in the bedroom on rising each morning

Review 110:Bathroom very good and the garden pleasent fora drink but service slow

Review 111:Not being able to access wifi with more than 1 device at a time was a small inconvenience. We were offered access to a fridge (thank you) but having a bar fridge in the room would be more convenient.

Review 112:We had a short but very enjoyable stay in Bayeux, made all the more so by being at Hotel d'Argouges. It is in a wonderful location in the centre of Bayeux, within walking distance to everything. Having the Farmer's Markets in the park right in front of the Hotel was an unexpected delight. The staff were very helpful with directions & information. The room was spacious & the modern bathroom very clean & luxurious. Being able to leave our gear & car parked at the hotel past check-out time all added to a great experience. Had we stayed longer we would have been able to enjoy the gardens & the food & drink service which was available. Room service was great & ordering a delicious hot chocolate late at night was a treat. It is a beautiful Hotel with lovely old-world charm & I would love to return, stay longer & discover more of Bayeux & this area of Normandy. I would definitely stay again at Hotel d'Argouges.

Review 113:Dont go for the breakfast, its quite expensive and there are many better options available directly around it. Wifi is limited to one device per room.

Review 114:super location directly in the city center, and with the free parking. Room was beautifully done up and very quiet. No lift though so if you dont want to carry heavy suitcases, beware.

Review 115:Room was lovely, but watch those beams and low ceilings (ouch!) Also breakfast was not best value, especially when there are 3 excellent boulangeries 3 minutes' walk from the hotel doors. It was nice but not cheap....

Review 116:The grounds and accommodation; The friendly and approachable staff; The hotel location.

Review 117:Minor inconvenience - only one person from the room can be logged in to the WiFi at once

Review 118:Staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. The building itself is picturesque and in an ideal location. Would love to stay here again.

Review 119:The food didn't meet my expectations of fine French cuisine but that may reflect my choices.

Review 120:The day trips to Normandy landing beaches and Mt St Michel shuttle bus trip. Having time to wander Bayeaux and visit see the tapestry war museum and British war cemetery.

Review 121:This lovely old chateau was in a great location. The rooms were spacious, the king bed very comfortable, and the bathroom delightfully modern and roomy. Very quiet, clean with a gracious and helpful staff

Review 122:Wi-fi was limited to one person per room at a time. And then access to the wi-fi was often unavailable at all due to poor reception. We were a group of 8 persons (4rooms) and were placed in an outside building on the top floors---- no elevators.

Review 123:Rooms were clean and updated. Free off street parking, and downtown location. Although initially one of the rooms had a double bed, the staff did change the room after one night to a room with two twins, as had been originally requested.

Review 124:Our room! There was nothing "wrong" with our room - it was clean, safe, well-maintained, but it really needs an updating. Simple stuff: colorful bedspreads, bathroom amenities, something other than a linoleum floor and hardwood counter in bathroom. Seems they could maintain the historic flavor while doing low-level, cost-effective upgrades.

Review 125:Very friendly, accommodating staff - delightful in every way. Bayeux is not big, so there really is no location (including this hotel) that is "far" from anything. Nice historic building, breakfast a bit pricey but enjoyable nevertheless

Review 126:No lift, but to be expected in an old building.

Review 127:Plenty of on site secure parking. Hotel walking distance to town and attractions. Comfortable hotel, attentive staff.

Review 128:Had to leave.

Review 129:The hotel was beautiful, tastefully decorated, and our 2 room suite had a newly remodeled bathroom. The beds and pillows were comfy, and it was really quite. The location was great for easy access to cafés, grocery stores amd a short walk to the Notre Dame. The breakfast was good am they did have a good variety, however, the second day we ate at a bakery just down the street for half the price. We all enjoyed our stay.

The Fine Print
