Reviews for Grand Hôtel Richelieu

Review 1:Parking is really bad. There are only about 10 small spots in front of the hotel which would work if you had a small car. Otherwise you have to park on the street. We couldn't find any parking at all and had to pay 28 Euros to park the night in a public parking garage down the street and then lug our luggage to the hotel.

Review 2:It is a great location on the beach and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful.

Review 3:Although the breakfast is fine it is expensive and its preferable in our view to go to the daily indoor/outdoor market and get it there.

Review 4:Right in town but also next to the beach with its wonderful promenade area and close to all the beachfront restaurants

Review 5:Not really comfortable for the price. Beds not comfortable. No curtain in the bath. Insulation is aweful, we got waken up several times in the night by our neighbour using the water. The room was very hot while it was raining and 20 degrees outside. Plus, the parking in front of the hotel is very random. Parking in the streets around will cost you 3.20 euros for a maximum of 2 hours.

Review 6:Very central, very close to the beach.

Review 7:The toilet facilities were poor in the rooms and having stayed in a hotel the other side of the street it certainly did not warrant nearly 4 times the price

Review 8:The location, breakfast was good

Review 9:Bathrooms doors with sneaky self closing mechanisms hard to open terrible barroom layout, hard pillows. Street noise enough that the bathroom included free earplugs.

Review 10:Beautiful historic facade, central location.

Review 11:The first room we were offered had a mouldy cupboard, the shower in the bathroom was totally inadequate, it was really not pleasant. The second room had a better bathroom but there was a bad smell from the drain. The wardrobe space was half height and not good enough.

Review 12:Location right next to beach and town centre.

Review 13:Shower Head attachment needs re-thinking. Breakfast expensive for what was on offer, nearby cafes better value

Review 14:Location. Spacious Room and Bathroom. Clean.

Review 15:Parking - a nightmare but quite a general issue in Arcachon so not specific to this hotel.

Review 16:Clean - contemporary with a good breakfast and great location. Helpful staff

Review 17:The hotel is right by the beach. The room was large and well furnished. The breakfast was good value for money. There was an extensive buffet and eggs were cooked to order. The omlettes were excellent. There is a lounge for residents.

Review 18:The fire alarm went off at 1:30 the first night of our stay. The night porter (who only spoke French) seemed to have no idea what to do and less than half the guests were alerted with no action to check on them. He was quite reluctant to call the fire brigade even though some guests had smelled smoke. They did eventually come and after 2 hours we could go back to our rooms. Absolutely shocking that they have no proper procedure in case of a fire alarm. This whole episode reminded us of Fawlty Towers. Fortunately there was no fire. Otherwise it could have been a catastrophe for all the guests who were left to sleep during the alarm...

Review 19:Excellent location right in front of the beach

Review 20:I'd asked for a sea view but with only 2 days notice I got a side room down a dark corridor. The room was fine but the bathroom smelt of something nasty. They'd left me 2 set of earplugs. I found out why later - a rock-band were on stage maybe 40' from my window. They finished at midnight but I'd needed to be asleep by 9pm that evening. Wish I'd known!

Review 21:Breakfast. Seafront

Review 22:Lift not working and we were on the second floor. Also shower was not fixed to wall, just hand held, not ideal.

Review 23:The location was excellent although no parking! Nearby car park was very expensive.

Review 24:The noise level of clubbing music shaking the hotel and preventing sleep let alone peace from early evening until midnight was no good for a family with children. Secondly the fire alarm did not work on our floor causing us to eventually fall asleep in an emergency. The hotel manager said that he had done all that was necessary in terms of fire alarm protocol and if we chose not to wake up it was our fault!

Review 25:Smell in the bathroom was disgusting - problem with the toilet plumbing? The problem was not solved despite attempts by the staff to eradicate the odour.

Review 26:Central position, close to the Pier and ferries. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. We were lucky to be able to park on-site, but spaces were very small.

Review 27:An excellent located hotel with nice rooms. The breakfast was really good and the breakfast area was small and made you feel almost like home. You cannot come closer to the beach and all seaside restaurants, they are just around the corner.

Review 28:If you come in July then expect unbelievable level of noise from the stage opposite the hotel between 9 pm and midnight. They should warn you of this, There was a fire alarm at 2 am which was an absolute shambles, the night porter had no idea what to do and less than half the guests were alerted with no action to check on them. The fire brigade were called and we were kept up for 2hours but still no evacuation of the guests who had not heard the alarm!!! The next morning we spoke to the Director of the hotel, who quite aggressively told us it was nothing to do with him and French law said that it was only the fire brigade that could evacuate (not true) that the noise at night was nothing to do with him and he had no responsibility to inform guests about the noise before they booked. He also unbelievably stated that it was nothing to do with him that the night porter did not know what to do, the night porter simply failed to do his job!!

Review 29:breakfast was excellent

Review 30:The only problem was very noisy plumbing. It seemed that when another room flushed the toilet in went down the piping in our room.

Review 31:Excellent location and very helpful staff.

Review 32:The hotel was exactly as I expected from other reviews. The staff were extra friendly and helpful and kept the jar of sweets on the reception topped up for my granddaughter!

Review 33:Parking can be a challenge but we always managed to find a spot.

Review 34:Location could not be better. Staff was consistently helpful and very friendly. The room was not large but was comfortable and very clean. Bed was large and comfortable. Room was quiet in the evening.

Review 35:No parking to speak of. Could not get breakfast because no places. Wifi hit and miss, could not work . No where to put the suitcases. No wardrobe.

Review 36:Location

Review 37:TV screen could be a little bit bigger BUT we don't go to this place to watch TV. So no big deal :-).

Review 38:Place well located, people are very efficient and kind. I came with my motorbike and I like the fact that they offer the breakfast free of charge to bikers. Very nice attention, I think.

Review 39:Like most boutique hotels - not enough staff. Tub water value broke - qSnt able to turn off water. My husband climbed in the tub to close it for them. No compensation for the help or duscount on the bill. Other than that - lovely stay. Breakfast good!

Review 40:Love location on the beach & Boardwalk. Very Clean- great deck on first floor!

Review 41:Breakfast should be included in the price as your price was veryexpensive. Found an excellent breakfast locally only 7 euros! Planningto visit again next year so hope next time breakfast will be included.

Review 42:Lovely room great location will definitely return next year.

Review 43:You can hear what's happening to the room next to yours Staff could be more helpful Room with a view is so expensive that it's not worth it

Review 44:Great location Room was good

Review 45:The rooms are quite small. There are no facilities to make tea/coffee in the bedroom, which I think is not really acceptable for a 3 star hotel. Very dated décor too.The car park is really small and the staff not really helpful! Wouldn 't go back.

Review 46:Great location, by the sea.

Review 47:Run-down facilities in room, shower was actually a bath with hand-held shower head, no fridge (and no ice machine in its absence), TV not working, no iron in room despite room guide saying there was (staff advised it is too risky to iron in rooms), cheap sheet toilet paper dispenser, no tea of coffee facilities in rooms

Review 48:Location, view

Review 49:Misread the breakfast costs which worked out to 29 euros for both ofus!!The breakfast was nothing special and had we had realized thecost we could have gone to a local bar and had a better breakfast forhalf the cost!

Review 50:Loved the staff hotel was great

Review 51:Room could have been bigger, but for 99euro I accepted it...

Review 52:Good hotel, superb location..the breakfast was superb and I highly re omen the omelettes cooked to order, the girls and ladies who work in the breakfast room are extremely friendly and a credit to hotel the staff make in general make this hotel so welcoming.. It possibly could do with a bit of updating but I've also stayed in the Ritz in Cannes and that does too.. The room was very clean and tidy, and that's what you want.. Location is a 10/10.. Overall I loved the hotel.. Wifi was excellent all over the hotel.. Parking if you can get it is at the front if not budget 20 euro at local car park 200m away.. Arcachon is stunning!!

Review 53:The downside is its very noisy as you are situated on the main high street & the thorough fare to the beach. Late night revellers pass by sensing & shouting & the bins are emptied each morning at 6 am! It is impossible to sleep with the windows open.

Review 54:This hotel is only a few footsteps away from the beautiful beach so has a fantastic location. It's also right in the hub of Arcachon with al it's restaurants cafes and shops!

Review 55:Parking difficult, room not clean, waste bin had not been emptied from previous guests, overpowering smell of air freshener.

Review 56:Comfortable bed and lovely bed linen

Review 57:Limited private parking, some rooms have had an bathroom upgrade, but not all yet.

Review 58:The location & ambience here is everything. Perfectly placed for the beach, restaurants & the town for shopping etc. Has the feel of an independent establishment with a certain degree of old world charm. Breakfast excellent, no dining room but so much choice all around. If you are looking for a chain hotel with sterile personality, don't bother, this is for a more discerning customer.

Review 59:Could be cleaner Rooms dated

Review 60:Fabulous location Great breakfast not recognised by many Wonderful breakfast staff especially the smiling blonde lady Parking if you are lucky to get it Great sea view

Review 61:Bathroom tired and out dated. The wall did not rach the ceiling so noises etc could reach the other parts of the room. The door was glass so people could be seen from outside the bathroom. No shower screen

Review 62:Location was terrific. Staff very helpful and polite Rooms very comfortable

Review 63:Décor old and faded will need an update in next couple of years. No outside sitting area. Parking atrocious (as is everywhere in Arcachon). Room was expensive for quality.

Review 64:A very comfortable but slightly 'down at heel' hotel, friendly staff, good breakfasts.

Review 65:A bit noisy at times with the windows open but then what can you expect from a room overlooking the hub of a busy resort. Tea / coffee in the room would have been nice.

Review 66:Excellent and friendly staff. Great view. Room well decorated and well maintained. Great bathroom. Would stay again.

Review 67:Although told parking at hotel was available spaces were not readily available and although parking was available nearby not easy with luggage and checking in

Review 68:Our room was like something out the 1940's we asked for a twin but got a double - we are 2 friends and thought for one night we could live with that ...... But the bed was more like an over sized single bed NOT suitable. We asked for a duvet and sheets to make a bed on the floor - no spare mattress or pillows available we shifted the furniture to make space. Toilet was on one side of the room in a small cupboard - wash basin other side of the room with bath - shower head broken. This room was suitable for one person and definitely not a tall or big person Parking is a nightmare hotel can cater for apporx 10 carsWe wont be returning and for what we paid the only plus was the view we moved to another hotel the next night more suitable

Review 69:view small balcony 2 chairs overlooking the beach and basin, night life finished at 23hours so noise was controlled. We could walk out to lots of restaurants and street entertainment

Review 70:noisy during summer months because of animation just in front of hotel until midnight every day - ex bathrooms need an update as they are still in the 1960's no tea & coffee making facilites, no hairdrier no fridge very basic, but decor nice

Review 71:location apart from the noise

Review 72:The biggest downside was the size of the bed. We booked a double bed and got a 1,40 meter one, rather small for two grown-ups.

Review 73:The location of the hotel is really central and the staff was very friendly, especially the breakfast ladies. Breakfast is good, you can order freshly made eggs and espresso, which is included in the 14,50 they charge you. Positive is that you can decide spontaneously every day if you want to have breakfast; no booking is required.

Review 74:Not very flexible as to bed type requirements.

Review 75:The position could be beaten as was right on the beach. Small but ample car park. Rooms were small but manageable and very well appointed bathroom and power shower.

Review 76:The location of the hotel is perfect - right on the beach and almost in the city center. The room was spacious and the service was good. We had breakfast at the hotel every morning and it was nice. We found free parking just in front of the hotel

Review 77:Outdated decor, poor value for money, I would not return. Very noisy location on the main square with numerous bars and restaurants. On a hot day when thousands were partying until early ours it was impossible to sleep. Our luggage (rooms were not ready as we arrived early) was stored in the main entrance corridor where everybody passed by all the time, with the main entrance to the street always wide open. One staff member acted rudely and gave wrong information about parking. We were first informed about a cheaper option for parking in the nearby public parking by paying at the hotel. Another receptionist in the evening argued rather aggressively several times that nothing like this existed, claiming also that he was the responsible there. Next morning a third receptionist at the check-out knew everything about it and also said the other receptionist was no way a responsible...

Review 78:Poor shower, had to hand hold the shower. Our bathroom was quite tired

Review 79:Very good location. Close to sea and town.

Review 80:Quite expensive for one.

Review 81:Excellent location; friendly stuff; Wi-fi; very cosy place.

Review 82:Nothing

Review 83:well appointed in a great location - great breakfast though a bit costly - well presented and friendly helpful staff

Review 84:No English language tv; no kettle; no English language papers; no shower pole or hook for hand held shower; bathroom not updated

Review 85:Location/parking

Review 86:Bathroom a bit small.

Review 87:Located in the heart of Arcachon with entertainment and beach and restaurants right there.

Review 88:It was perfect. Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room (although only a small room). Very French.

Review 89:Would be nice for breakfast to be included.

Review 90:Great location in Arcachon with friendly staff and well specified rooms.

Review 91:In the heart of the city. Very friendly staff. Old hotel but very nicely restored.

Review 92:Some ares a bit dated needs freshening up

Review 93:Superb location

Review 94:1. No tea, coffee in the room

Review 95:1. Central location. 2. Hotel is good inside

Review 96:nothing - fabulous place

Review 97:location, location, location

Review 98:One or two large cars parked selfishly in the car park. Fine for decent small cars, though.

Review 99:Excellent location, very polite and helpful staff.

Review 100:Odd shower, wifi password not automatically given.

Review 101:Reception staff very friendly, comfortable bed, lovely room, beautiful view, historic hotel.

Review 102:Expensive parking

Review 103:The location, the shower, very comfortable bed, the old-world ambience with modern facilities.

Review 104:Parking space, had to park at the nearest car park which is 28,50 euros a day!! Ridiculous!

Review 105:It's very close near the beach!

Review 106:Excellent breakfast

Review 107:Welcome reception. lovely location

Review 108:room not very sound proof
