Reviews for Hotel Méndez Núñez
Review 1:Hotel is in a mall, just off the main plaza - can be noisy - especially in the middle of the San Froilan festival(!). Awkward to drop off luggage by car
Review 2:Hotel is in a mall, just off the main plaza - in the centre of walled city
Review 3:Wifi wasn't available in the room - had to go out into the hall.
Review 4:After days on the Camino de Santiago this place was amazing!! We just happened to get an incredible deal on Booking.com at the last minute. The bathroom was new and big as well as the room. We didn't have a view but for the price it didn't matter! Close to all the festivities going on in the area.
Review 5:Heat/AC controls not operating probably because it was late fall but we slept with balcony door open so temp was fine.
Review 6:Location great and breakfast. Lots of choice on the buffet (hot and cold). Easy to find, hotel was clean with queen bed , large bathroom with very good shower-lots of hot water and good water pleasure.
Review 7:Fabulous location right in the center of Lugo. We parked in the city parking lot, not the one where the hotel has a deal. We were provided good directions to move our car in order to save money but as it was pouring rain and we were only there for one night we left it in the closer parking lot. The rooms are "modern botique" and are quite adequate. The 6th floor lounge was disappointing but had a terrace with a beautiful view. Breakfast was included in our rate and was fine. The staff were helpful in giving us directions to the museum and providing open hours for sights.
Review 8:Not a complaint as such but a point to note. The hotel is a little difficult to find as you cannot actually drive up the road it is located in. When making the booking or contacting the hotel ask for the car park details and it is only a couple of minutes walk away.
Review 9:Light large room. Excellent location in the heart of the old town near the Praza Mayor and very close to many good restaurants.
Review 10:No hotel carpet so luggage had to be carried from the nearest car park.
Review 11:Centrally placed with walking distance of bars & restaurants, Cathedral and Roman Wall.
Review 12:We would have appreciated sliced fresh fruit on offer at breakfast, rather than only canned fruit or oranges and apples.
Review 13:Great location. Good rooms, beds, WiFi.
Review 14:The hotel is situated in a pedestrian area within the walled city and was difficult to find. Had to walk from nearby car park with bags as we were unaware that vehicle access was allowed to drop off.
Review 15:Location ideal for visiting the historic sights and within walking distance of most. Bars & restaurants all around the area. The hotel has a deal with a car park that is a 5 minute walk away and costs Euros 6 per night.
Review 16:Air conditioning didn't work. Most people felt hot air coming out.
Review 17:Front desk was ready with rooms and keys. Helped with holding baggage outside of stay hours. Directed is to a great place for dinner. Hotel has a great location just off the main square.
Review 18:Not too much to dislike.. As mentioned earlier staff friendliness was a bit cold but location in the old town was great. There is also late night reveller noise but that's to be expected if you stay in the d town which is mostly pedestrianised
Review 19:Great location in the heart of the pedestrian zone. You can use the public parking about 200 metres away (€15 per day ) though the hotel has an arrangement with another car park for €6 but it's another 200 metres on from the square. Breakfast is served on the 6 th floor where there also a terrace overlooking the old town. . Excellent king size bed and large en suite.. Staff help was a bit random - the lady who greeted us upon arrival didn't want to offer any information about the hotel, the old town or any decent places to eat. But after some serious interrogation she eventually revealed where breakfast would be served and even named a restaurant !! However the lady who greeted is after our walkabout couldn't be more helpful .. Like I said .. A bit random.. Would recommend rhe hotel and would happily stay here again . Try Rua Costa, only 5 minutes walk from the hotel, where you find a host of traditional taperias as well as restaurants .. We are in Meson Alberto which was excellent.
Review 20:Air conditioning in room not very efficient but was looked at. But no real complaint.
Review 21:We were there for the Arde Lvcvs MMXV festival so the location was wonderful. Reception staff very helpful.
Review 22:We would have liked to know in advance that the hotel was in a restricted access area for private cars.
Review 23:Good location in city centre. Good value for money.
Review 26:Unable to get a drink in bar or food in restaurant the night we arrived. It seemed to cater for group tours only so we ended up going out
Review 27:Warm welcome, clean comfortable room & décor. Good outdoor space on balcony overlooking city.
Review 28:The receptionist didn't even bother to stand from his chair to greet us. Four star hotel and he didn't speak a word in english. The window room overlooked fire escape stairs. Room 417. Air conditioning produced only noise. They offered us a free breakfast for our sleeples night. The problem was it was served from 8 am. Better to stay in alberque.
Review 29:Rooms are tired looking and a bit run shabby looking. Bathroom was clean but with mildew and some cracked tiles - made it feel that maintenance was overlooked.
Review 30:Staff were very helpful and very nice to deal with regarding any questions. Breakfast bar in the am was a great start to the day - lots of choice and good service.
Review 31:Wifi wasn't great.
Review 32:Spacious, airy, comfortable room. We thought it would be noisy given how central it is to the cathedral but... the hotel is sound insulated & we slept like babies!
Review 33:Great location for exploring the wonderful city of Lugo. Conveniently hotel has an arrangement with nearby parking lot, so parking easy and good value.
Review 34:No parking place at hotel, must drive on a walking street (it is legal) to get to the hotel front door.
Review 35:Great location, nice folks, good directions to see local sights, very nice breakfast, wonderful views over thee old walled town, hotel has agreement with a particular parking garage (6 Euros/day) AND good value!
Review 36:We booked a double room with single beds .We got a suite with three beds in two rooms , a relaxing area with sofa , TV and coffee table , two bathrooms and plenty of storage space .We were very pleased , and stayed for an extra night, at the same rate .
Review 37:a/c didn't cool no wi-fi in rooms. forced to go to lobby each time. uncleaned toilet bowl
Review 38:staff was responsive and offered to change rooms but i had already unpacked so i let it go.
Review 39:Would have liked tea/coffee facilities in room. There was a discount for parking which we were not made aware of when we left so ended up paying full price. Could have been more proactive with this.
Review 40:Great location. Clean and tidy. Good breakfast at good price.
Review 41:Coffee machine served cold, stewed coffee both mornings. We pointed this out to the staff, who got quite defensive about it, even showing me the bags of coffee it is made from! Missed the point really! Were it not for this they would have scored Excellent for the facilities.
Review 42:The art, nice garden for guests, excellent location near the old town.
Review 43:The food on the main square was overpriced- service was good. One restaurant off the main square in a little side street served the worst deal meal ever. We got a plate of tough small prawns- about eight of them for 9 euros, soggy calamari rings-about eight of them for 8 euros and a chicken curry that was a good size but was mostly cream. There is also a serious garbage collection problem in Lugo. There are overflowing garbage bins and heaps of rotting rubbish all around the areas of interest. They are really smelly and waft the putrid scent of decay wherever you go. There are also a lot of 'pushy' beggars who enter the restaurants while you're eating to ask for money. No one stops them. There seemed to be one around every corner.
Review 44:An interesting stay off the tourist route to Santiago de Compostela. We enjoyed walking the Roman walls both in the day and the evening when the lights give everything a more beautiful glow. There were a lot of other sights and museums. Stick to the old town and wander the cobbled streets. The hotel was adequate- good value for the money. Of course you have to pay extra for parking which was off site and around the corner but with a discount it was reasonable. The breakfast buffet was fine and cost 6 euros which was also a fair price. We had the best and worst meal in Lugo of our 6 week trip. The best was at Espana-the tapas was delightful and delicious, the service was great. My husband said it was the best sushi he'd ever eaten- and he's had a lot. The worst was at a place we think was called pulperia.
Review 45:Internet in my room was non existent unless I sat right by the hallway door.
Review 46:Very nice design, clean, neat. Super central location. Cute balcony in my room. Friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast in a terrace overlooking the city.
Review 47:The hotel was ok, if you have to stay in Lugo.
Review 48:Decent hotel with good location in a shabby city. Drive past the city walls, then travel on. Nice view from the restaurant at the top, but many houses are in very bad shape.
Review 49:Nothing
Review 50:Room was excellent Staff was very friendly
Review 51:internet conection is weak and staff is not that friendly

Review 77:Loved the central location
Review 78:THE STAFF WAS AMAZING
Review 79:Car parking difficult. Directions as to how to get a car up to the hotel through pedestrian area would be helpful
Review 80:Location within the walled city
Review 81:Small room, bed not good
Review 82:Got my room very early Breakfast good
Review 83:The breakfast would be great if the staff would have the curtesy to refill the empty trays.
Review 84:The position.
Review 85:They let us in our room early to recover from flight.
Review 86:Not much character to hotel
Review 87:Location. Comfy room
Review 88:Really nice hotel, great location, very quiet. Would definitely stay here again
Review 89:Wifi did not work

Review 92:great location, breakfast, comfort of rooms
Review 93:Location. Cleanliness. Great breakfast. Value for money.
Review 94:The air conditioning really wasn't working well. The room was hot and stuffy.
Review 95:Location.
Review 96:Room is very small.
Review 97:Location is great. Room has air-conditioning.
Review 98:Parking
Review 99:location,, room, helpfulness of staff
Review 100:I think this is rather a 3-star hotel. Difficult to reach the hotel by car. There is no hotel parking.
Review 101:Clean hotel in the centre of the city.
Review 102:Very conveniently located in the centre of the beautiful city of Lugo, this was an ideal stop and rest while on the Camino de Santiago
Review 103:Excellent breakfast Friendly staff Wonderful location Quiet rooms
Review 104:In a pedestrian area and close to it all.
Review 105:In centre of city.
Review 106:Poor internet signal at the room. My room was at the end of the corridor.
Review 107:Location, breakfast.
Review 108:The toilet was broken and draining water. Cold water in the shower. A lot of noise and cigarrette smoke in a non smokers area (my bedroom!)
Review 109:Location
Review 110:The location is difficult to find and hard to get to as its in a pedestrianised area. I had my arm in plaster and there was no-one there to help me get my suitcase up the entry stairs. WIFI was only accessible in public areas. The safe in room didn't work and we were just told to leave things behind Reception if we wished. There was absolutely no power in the shower.
Review 111:The hotel was clean and some of the staff were helpful. The bed was comfortable.
Review 112:The only drawback was the inaccessibility of the hotel by car ( due to hotel's location in pedestrianised zone). However, the hotel has a cheap arrangement with a nearby secured carpark .
Review 113:City centre, in pedestrian zone, near all interesting sights. Very helpful and courteous staff. Large rooftop breakfast room and cafe with terrace. Spacious room with very good bathroom.
Review 114:Nothing really
Review 115:Lovely hotel with balcony overlooking pedestrianized street and a very good price. Secure parking nearby and very reasonable as they have arrangement with hotel. You may wish to park first (Rua Teatro ) as hotel is in pedestrian zone. Loved the city and couldn't believe the variety and quality of tapas that were offered with each drink. Follow the rules eat the menu de dia during the day and the tapas are certainly sufficient for evening!
Review 116:1. Tea and coffee kit could be a great amenity in the room. 2. A bit extended bar working hours - as a suggestion
Review 117:1. Excellent and spectacular location 2. Quiet environment, still within the lively location 3. Spacious room with balcony 4. Option for smokers (don't have to smoke in the room - there is a spacious open-air balcony)
Review 118:No shower hat. No facility for making tea and instant coffee in room.
Review 119:Central location. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Fair price.
Review 120:I didn't like not being able to get a cup of tea in the hotel between 11am and 7pm. A kettle in the room would have made all the difference. I stayed for 6 nights. The night before I left there was a lot of banging about upstairs, which went on until after 11.30 pm. As I had an early start to travel home, I could have really done without this.
Review 121:I loved the location, being literally on the doorstep for great cafes, bars ans shops. My room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom modern and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. I'd definitely choose this hotel to stay in if I visit Lugo again.
Review 122:There was not an electric kettle in the room.
Review 123:They were amazing! The view! the location is inside the Roman Wall, there are supermarkets, bakeries, everything!
Review 124:Internet wi-fi reception is not perfect, is better if you keep yourroom open!
Review 125:Good location for visiting the town, very close the the main square. Ifyou are there by car ask for the discounted park.
Review 126:There were large groups in the dining room for breakfast, causingdifficulties. For the evening meal we ate out
Review 127:Location, price, friendliness and general standards
Review 128:Car garage partnership at 5 minute walk distance and costs 9.5 Eur perday. Not really a negative issue. Breakfast costs an extra 6.5 Eur butyou can eat an extraordinary Spanish breakfast nearby at Plaza Mayor, 1minute walk from the hotel.
Review 129:Confortable and large room with a large tv set. Located inside walls andin upper side of Plaza Mayor, is very close to tapas bars andrestaurants and far enough to have a good night sleep. Very close to allcity attractions. Free wi-fi in whole hotel although it doesn't workvery well in some rooms.
