Reviews for Hostal Alameda

Review 1:Staff, the Italian/Spanish guy is a star, very friendly, he helped us a lot! The hostel is just in front of the port where you can take the ferry for one special daytrip to Morocco :)

Review 2:Loud music, from somewhere outside I believe, kept me awake all night. (Not the hotel's fault).

Review 3:Great location, nice staff, clean with nice appointments, nice price. Perfect for catching the ferry.

Review 4:No carpeted floor.

Review 5:Very friendly and helpful staff doing their utmost to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Cozy room ideal for families with young children, playground outside and plenty of restaurants around.

Review 6:We were traveling to Morocco making this hotel perfect for catching the ferry to Morocco and then returning. You literally have to walk a couple of blocks and you can see the ferry from the hotel. The staff were helpful and very pleasant. Needed ice for some drinks and the staff procured what we needed from the bar on site. They assisted with luggage since I was in a no parking zone upon arrival. Parking is tight, but was able to get into a limited space parking garage 21/2 blocks away at a discount secured by the hotel. Easy stroll to the center of Tarifa for shopping and access to restaurants and bars.

Review 7:The staff cannot much speak English. The room in the old building is quite small and No breakfast.

Review 8:The location is perfect for person who is going to take a ferry after your stay since it's just across the street.

Review 9:Hostal Alameda was centrally situated, both handy for walking in any direction, visiting the old town & surrounded by several excellent restaurants and bars

Review 10:bedroom was much too small for people with a lot of luggage. no elevater to the 3rd floor. no breakfast in hotel.

Review 11:bathroom was very nice, good light, and big enough.

Review 12:Our internet was not working and morning receptionist was not really interested to do much for it. Lucky enough evening receptionist fixed the rooter so we could have internet next morning! Non of the lights worked in the room except for one.

Review 13:Room was very big, clean and attractively decorated.

Review 14:We were annoyed that they had taken prepayment on our card without permission. We had wanted to pay in euros and cash, but they would not accept this. This meant we got a terrible rate of exchange. Breakfast service was poor and staff were rude and unhelpful. We had ants in our bed!!!!!

Review 15:The central location. The hotel was mainly clean.

Review 16:Terribly British problem - we dont speak the language of the country we are visiting. It was difficult to converse with the receptionist on the second night which lead to confusion over the availability of our rooms. Poor WiFi signal

Review 17:Proximity to the old town, port views, easy walk to the beach.

Review 18:Right next to very loud tivoli with screaming children in bumper-cars and their tooting horns until midnight, and pumping base from annoying party music past midnight. Need to sleep with closed windows and earplugs.

Review 19:Great placement right next to the harbour, comfortable rooms, and extremely helpful staff.

Review 20:Our stay here was ruined by the loud music coming through the walls from midnight to 3am. We were in a room on the front of the main building. Don't know if other rooms are as bad, but I wouldn't chance it. We were there on a Sunday and Monday so it was not like it was a weekend. Other than that, the hotel was fine. No elevator which wasn't an issue for us, but would be if you had a lot of luggage.

Review 21:Loved the location to the ferry and the nearby restaurants.

Review 22:Room I was given was nothing like the photo on the website (which promised a big balcony and a beautiful room). I was given a small room with tiny window. I complained and the staff member was not as well mannered as he could have been, insisting that I had to take the room anyway. After much to and fro with the manager on the phone, a new, much nicer, balconied room became available. It wasn't as nice as the one advertised and lacked the promised sea view but still really nice.

Review 23:Spacious room with balcony overlooking square. Excellent location. Nice room.

Review 24:The restaruant / cafe was disappointing. The staff were surly and lacking in customer service skills. We ate there 3 times and every time they got the order wrong, even though we ordered in Spanish every time! Service was slow and almost rude.

Review 25:The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was lovely with all amenities that we needed. Great location for cafes, bars and beaches.

Review 26:The hostel was perfectly situated after arriving late evening on the ferry from Tangier. Couldn't have asked for more for the room, it was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful.

Review 27:Thin wall, could hear neighboors taking all night. Bathtub is very slippery.

Review 28:Location! Very close to port if catching a ferry. Beach and old town within 5 minutes of waking. Very clean, modern, esthically pleasing hotel and rooms. Balcony was nice. Restaurant down stairs makes great seafood Paella!

Review 29:Nice people. Simple, comfy and clean room. Big bathroom. Held our luggage for us overnight . Restaurant next door. PERFECT location for an overnight before catching an early morning ferry ride.

Review 30:No bad comments. A good well maintained basic hotel.

Review 31:Stayed here with a group of friends, we found the hotel to be first class for location. There are no breakfasts included in the price but there are loads of cafes and restaurants nearby Cafe Azul is brilliant for breakfasts, try the Muesli, an experience. Our hotel was clean and well maintained and I would not hesitate to go back there again.

Review 32:Internet connection extremely slow

Review 33:Location of the hotel is very good just outside Port there are pleanty of restaurants next to hotel.Rooms are nice and clean. Staff is very courteous and helpful.

Review 34:The experience from the friendly gentleman at reception to the large and pleasant rooms with excellent showers was a very welcoming stay. Location was spot on for us. will stay there again without hesitation.

Review 35:No coffee early in the morning, but this seems to be the norm for Spain.

Review 36:The staff was friendly and helpful even though we had a language barrier. The free tea in the little lounge was much appreciated, the room was nicely decorated and comfortable. I could hear people in the hallway and rooms next to me, but I didn't mind. It was the perfect spot to stay for an early morning ferry we had to catch, as the port was about a 2-3 minute walk away.

Review 37:WIFI had problems. Even though the staff was kind and understanding, they couldn't solve the problem and we had no internet connection at all.

Review 38:Good location, nice staff, clean and heated (we were there in February).

Review 39:The lift was not always working but we were on 1. floor so that was not much problem.

Review 40:Exelent location, the room was bigger than expected. Comfortable bed and pillows. Would stay there again.

Review 41:The hostel is located near to the port and easy to find. there are also various restaurants around so no problem in comfort or finding food. Tarifa is a cute and neat little city. I personally felt that hostel Alameda was a god option and possibly one of the best.

Review 42:Heat didn't work, so was a bit cold in late November. Plenty of blankets though. No breakfast on site, but we knew that coming in and just wandered into the old city for stuff to eat. There is no lift in the building. Not a big deal for us, but could be if you really hate stairs. Tub was a bit sloped to stand in for a shower. Temperature was inconsistent as well. Most of these negatives were minor. Overall it is a perfectly decent hotel and we liked it.

Review 43:Really comfortable bed. Location is great if you are in Tarifa for the Port to cross to/from Morocco. It is only a few steps from the front gate.Really close to center of old town with bars/restaurants.

Review 44:We had a problem with ants in the room. they came and took care of the problem, but we saw them again before we checked out.

Review 45:everything was very good, from location, to the quality of the room. The WiFi connection was excellent. Had a tiny issue in communicating with staff with our broken Spanish, but managed to get the message across.

Review 46:The building is old and not well maintained. There was cigarette burns in the bed cover and the room smelled of smoke. We had asked for double room booked months ahead of time, when we arrive we got a twin room. For the price it is definitely not value for money.

Review 47:Location was good. We took the early ferry to Tangier.

Review 48:Nothing really.

Review 49:Staff was helpful and polite. right across the street from the port and where you will take ferry over to Tangier. We parked in the parking lot for the ferry since it was right across the street. 17.50 euros per 24 hours. Worked out great since parking is secure there. We felt good about leaving the car there while we went over to Morocco for the day.

Review 50:There was some kind of motorised camera working on the roof of the building which made a big noise every 5 or 10 minutes, all day and all night. Sleeping at all was very difficult !!

Review 51:Location for everything very good

Review 52:The 2nd floor was 4 floors up, difficult for one of our party. The decks had high walls, had to stand to see out. Door were thin so very noisy on occasion.

Review 53:Great location and nice staff.

Review 54:The bed is a bot difficult T to love Upgrade the mattresses Kick out the restaurant next door and offer breakfast for more cash. Ore idea is to ask visitors for referrals and those that book get incentives to return....

Review 55:The willingness for the staff to carry the bags and to store while we were in Morocco Stayed in 102 and the windows were great

Review 56:Noisy on first night due to music from a local bar. Quiet on second night.

Review 57:Very close to port and old town. Excellent location for day trip to Tangiers.

Review 58:About the only thing I can think of is to have coffee available - there was tea, and it looked like an espresso machine but we could never locate the coffee "pods" to put in the machine (if that is, in fact, what it was). Other than that very small matter, nothing else negative.

Review 59:Just about everything! The location was superb - as we were travelling with luggage to Morocco it was so nice that we only had to literally stroll about 30 yards or so to the pier to catch the ferry. The staff were wonderful! Made us feel so welcome and very understanding of our limited Spanish. - we would recommend highly this hotel. Top notch accommodations. The hotel is very nice with marble bathrooms, beautiful bedrooms, and were very spacious as well. The town of Tarifa also is great - a wonderful place for our teenagers to hang out in - a beach in easy walking distance, great shopping in "cool" boutiques. A 10 out of 10 in our opinion.

Review 72:Excellent location. Lovely room.

Review 73:Very good value. The best location for the ferry to Tangier.

Review 74:Minimal facilities within hostel.

Review 75:Location and the building has an elevator!

Review 111:Very , very near Sol yet away from noise. Plus, an elevator !

Review 112:Welcoming staff, and a clean, comfortable room with excellent wifi connection. Location is perfect to head into the old town.

Review 113:A stone's throw away from the ferry port.

Review 114:Proximity to the water and interesting neighborhood was great!

Review 115:Coffee and tea making facilities downstairs near reception not in room.

Review 116:Location for port and town was excellent. Room clean and tidy.

Review 117:When the restaurant below closes it creates a lot of noise and banging that travels thru the walls - very unpleasant. Also on weekends parking can be difficult.

Review 118:The location is perfect to explore the city, dine at night and catch the ferry to Morocco. For a night or two it is a good basic hotel.

Review 119:Pigeons on the small balcony that we would have sat on but the wall to lean on was covered in bird droppings. No point in us booking a sea view. Two plastic seats provided but no table to put drink on. The chairs and the balcony were very clean it was the balcony wall that was full of pooh. Unfortunately the balcony wall was so high if you sat down you had no sea view. Therefore in standing up you had to lean on the top of the balcony wall to look out but couldn't touch it. That said we would book and stay again as our first choice and recommend to others but would not rely on the sea view as a feature.

Review 120:Closeness to old town.
