Reviews for Hotel Mariahilf
Review 1:Unfortunately there isn't a car park so you have to pay €13 a day to park in a nearby garage.
Review 2:Location was perfect, five minutes from the central square of Graz. Very good choice for breakfast. Helpful receptionists and patient and friendly breakfast staff.
Review 3:Well, we were in the attic. For what we paid, this was a reasonable level of accommodation, but it was basic. Spotless, however.
Review 4:Location--walking distance to the Advent markets. Cosy atmosphere. Pleasant front desk help
Review 5:Maybe someone would have a problem that the hotel is a bit old, but we didn't mind.
Review 6:Location is great. You are in the city center. Staff was also very friendly.
Review 7:A very good hotel. Location is perfect, 5 minutes walk from the old town center. I enjoyed very much my staying there. The room was very clean and very comfortable.
Review 8:Obviously it is a very old building and things are very old fashioned and there is need for a renovation. But at the same time it is very charming. The walls are not very thick but it still was not too loud overall.
Review 9:The hotel is in a great location and offers great value for money
Review 10:Wifi was unreliable and at night was difficult to connect.
Review 11:The location is very good, really close to the tram stop and walking distance to the city centre.
Review 12:Beds were hard, lumpy and very uncomfortable. The shower was so small, you had to open the door to wash your legs. Half the breakfast selections were empty each day and not refilled for over 20 minutes. Gausthaus directly below our room was noisy until the early morning.
Review 13:The location was perfect for the old inner city and the Schlossberg
Review 14:Bathroom a little dated (but clean). Room furnishings a little spartan.
Review 15:Good breakfast selection. Good sized room. Good value no-nonsense accommodation. 10 minutes walk to old town. 15-20 minutes to station. 2 minutes to regular tram between the two.
Review 16:Terrible tiny bed, and excessive heating in the rooms. Also it would be great to have a curtain shower as the entire bathroom gets wet when showering.
Review 17:Location
Review 18:Very soft bed wasn't good for my back, wifi free but unreliable and had to constantly be logging back in after 5 minutes of usage
Review 19:Nice hotel just across the river from the historic centre, great breakfast buffet, quiet at night to sleep
Review 20:It was difficult to find any open nearby restaurant at Sunday evening.
Review 21:Good location close to downtown, hotel has just basic equipment, but clean. Parking very close in an underground garage, pricing is reasonable.
Review 22:Old building
Review 23:Good location, beautiful and nice hotel and place. The rest was comfortable. This hotel would be prefered for historical or authentic eco - tourism.
Review 24:This hotel is a wise choice for a short stay as it is right in the center and still a bit away from the crowd. Graz is a wonderful city and we were happy with our choice of hotel. Breakfast does not include a big variety but is good as the standard for breakfast in Austria is high overall. The room does not have a refrigerator which could be a minus for a longer stay. Wi fi is excellent and the personnel is also pleasant - thank you.
Review 25:Room was extremely hot. Although windows opened, it was not sufficient to cool room down. Room was also somewhat dated. Hotel is resting on its good location but needs to spend some money.
Review 26:Great location with a large room
Review 27:Very unpleasant lady at the reception desk when we checked in :( ...The room was quite big but with extremely awful squeaky wood floor, no carpets, no fridge! The main lights were broken, very uncomfortable/tight shower. The breakfast was very poor ( quite unhealthy), limited offer of fruits and basic breakfast items... Extremely poor wifi and limited TV channels....
Review 28:great location!
Review 29:We had an emergency family situation and the hotel refused to release me from the non refundable rooms. So we had to pay for 3 rooms and other travellers with us only used 1 of the rooms. So the score is based on their evaluation.
Review 30:Well, I think that this hotel does not deserve its 3 stars. Bathroom is too small and needs renovation. The shower cabin is so small than it can barely fit in an average person, and shower head is not good so you can't have a shower properly. Some tiles need to be replaced. WiFi is awful, first it didn't work at all and later in the evening we connected, but the connection failed every five minutes. One lamp in the room didn't work and there are not enough electrical outlets. Woman at a reception desk did not tell us when we arrived that the public parking she directed us to, just down the street, is to be paid at the reception on departure and that they need to give us a ticket to exit, so we had an unpleasant experience next morning. Parking machine asked to pay 40 euros instead of 13 (as said on booking.com). Another member of the staff on the reception, when we came back to the hotel, gave us the card when we paid the 13 eur and after several attempts we got out. After all it went out well, but it was quite unpleasant and we lost quite a lot of time.
Review 31:This hotel has a really good location, just in front is the Kunstmuseum, and the Old Town of Graz is just across the river. Breakfast was good, as in at three-star hotel it should be. Room was big enough and simple, but that's it.
Review 32:No fridge in the room, wifi had to be reconnected several times. It could be renovated.
Review 33:Excellent location, in the center of the city. Room was clean, breakfast was sufficient.
Review 34:The equipment of the room is simple and crude! Also the quality of the water is really dirty! This room is NOT worthy of such price! NOT RECOMMEND!
Review 35:The breakfast is ok.
Review 36:Unable to close doors between rooms and also window to the street which was very noisy. No Air Conditioning. Strange combination of historical and cheap modern equipment.
Review 37:Good Location, Reach Breakfast, Big Rooms
Review 38:the room was very hot (in July) and with no air conditioning; had to keep the window open and the street was quite noisy because of traffic and costumers from a pizzeria running till late
Review 39:Central position, within minutes walk from main square and a few tram stops from railway station
Review 40:No ac so it was boiling in the room. WiFi needed to be logged into every time I loaded a new page or app.
Review 41:Great location in the heart of the city. Nice big room and bathroom.
Review 42:Lack of small fridge in the room. Maybe one should be able to rent one if they don't want to put one in each room. Breakfast room needs a screen on the door during the wasp season!
Review 43:Location was brilliant. Our big room was in the shade, so lack of a/c wasn't an issue. Great bed.
Review 44:Room had really seen better days, it was very humid inside and a/c had leaked water to carpeting and on top of room was quite dark,
Review 45:Excellent location and size of the room was great
Review 46:Staff is super friendly. No problem with communicating in English. Breakfast is amazing. The location is close to streetcar stops and the center or town. It was my second stay at this hotel.
Review 47:the room was very hot and without air conditioning, so I had to sleep with the windo open, and the street was quite noisy all night long; breakfast could be better
Review 48:central position (1 tram stop from main square, or 5 min walk; a bunch of tram stop from the railway station), large room, nice staff
Review 49:My room was under the rooftop, so during the night it was tooooo warm inside. I couldn't even open the window, because it was noisy outside (there are various bars in front of the hotel). No air conditioner, unfortunately.
Review 50:The position is absolutely strategic! You have to across the nearby bridge and you are in the city centre.
Review 51:Ventilation in the rooms. A good fan would do it in the summer.
Review 52:Friendly staff, great location (20 min walk from Graz Hbf and 15 min walk to the university), very clean and good breakfast.
Review 53:Comfort of the bed was really bad! You could feel the metal springs! Hotel is in desperate need of new mattresses!! Noise from the street in the middle of the night (no air conditioning, so we had to keep the window open at night).
Review 54:Location, location, location!!! Free breakfast very good. Friendly English speaking staff!!
Review 55:The room was exactly on the street with all of its noise. It was exacerbated since it was hot outside, and sweltering hot inside the non-air-conditioned room. The bathtub didn't have any shield or curtain, and the room had almost no free sockets, and specifically none near the table. The WiFi signal was pretty weak in the room.
Review 56:Mainly the location and that the staff were helpful. The breakfast was also OK.
Review 57:The rooms need urgent renovation. The pictures of the hotel show a totally different situation. The tiles are falling down in the bathroom, the wardrobe was falling appart Bit too expensive
Review 58:Very clean, most of the stuff is helpful
Review 59:Woken on two nights (03:30 & 04:30) by people talking loudly in the street below my first floor room. (No air conditioning so difficult to sleep with window closed.)
Review 60:Helpful staff; convenient location; a little old-fashioned, but in a good way (hotel retains some traditional character)
Review 61:Electrical wiring hanging from bathroom cabinet. broken and dangerous metal shuttering on so-called balcony. Dark and dingy room passed off as a 'superior suite'. Old and very creaky bed. A sofabed passed off as bed(s) for my children. Rude and immovable receptionist and junior manager who would not offer altenative accommodation and then argued over the amount we must pay (even though we didn't stay). A final settlement of 280 euros because of their loss of revenue. Rubbish guest house with dangerous accommodation. We will be reporting them to the Austrian tourist board. Photographs of above soon to be posted on web-page.
Review 62:Nothing
Review 63:This was my second stay at this hotel. I work in Graz and need a quiet, central and functional hotel. Unfortunately this hotel proved not to be a good choice. I needed to work in the evenings and their wireless did not work. I complained and explained how important this was for me, but no effort was made to fix it, other than restarting a router a few times (which did not work). The staff at this hotel do not realise that as a business traveller you need connectivity and their attitude was completely passive. The lady at the desk insinuated that I was making it up by saying that the manager went everywhere around the hotel to check, and that indeed it was working. Her only response was 'there is nothing I can do', not offering any compensation for three days of work lost, nor any other form of apology. I strongly urge business people not to stay here as it is not a reliable hotel.
Review 64:Quite tired interior. in my room floor was so creaky, as well as in the room above. I could hear people walking in their room.
Review 65:Surprisingly breakfast was really good, but from my experience it's overall in Austria . Location also good - in less than 10 min walk you reach center Generally hotel is ok Stuff in checkin desk is very pleasant
Review 66:Room was very dated. Don't expect it to look like in the pictures as advertised. There was no balcony or couch (superior double room). The carpet was very old, and although it had just been chemically cleaned, which left a bad smell in the room, it was still rather dirty and should have been replaced years ago. Changing the room was not possible as the hotel was fully booked. Overall 100€ per night including parking feels overpriced.
Review 67:Internet kept cutting out, and reestablishing a connection sometimes meant rebooting my laptop. No refrigerator and no way to heat water for coffee or tea in room.
Review 68:An easy walk to the main square, and a tram stop is two minutes away. Friendly and helpful staff, and unbelievably good breakfast.
Review 69:the bathtub didn't have curtains so it was a little uncomfortable. but this was a minor situation in comparison to the good qualities of the hotel in general. I would definitely be back and I would recommend it to anyone who goes to Graz
Review 70:i liked everything: really nice and helpful staff, nice people, good (if you don't eat like a pig of course); clean, comfort and very good location.
Review 71:Poor WiFi.
Review 72:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was cleaned and the towels changed every day. Perfect location. Close to the city centre. Nice short walk over the river Mur and you are in the old town or Sclossberg. Good brekfest.
Review 73:No shower curtains, wifi in the room very poor - but if you go outside the room it is fine, Rooms are quite basic in terms of furniture and a bit outdated, but this is compensated by the excellent location
Review 74:The location is excellent, very close to the center, spacious room even though the furniture is just basic, parking places available in a nearby parking against payment -13 eur for 24 hours, but you need to inform yourself at the reception before parking, since they give a parking card
Review 75:No negative experience!
Review 76:It´s a nice hotel in a very convenient place (close to Kunsthalle and only a few steps from other historical buildings) with wonderful breakfast and friendly staff.
Review 77:Perfect situation, plentiful breakfast, comfortable room, very helpful staff. Sport crazy husband disappointed no Eurosport on TV....but no problem for me!
Review 78:There was a problem for 2 days in the internet that was not solved effeciently. The view from my room was not nice.
Review 79:It was quiet, warm, easily accesible and place . The staff was helpful
Review 80:Everything looks like a bit "aged". The beds in "standard room" are not very comfortable. Very small TV screen, only a few TV stations available. No possibility to regulate temperature in the room.
Review 81:The hotel offers good value for price. It is well located with only a few minutes walking to Kulturhaus, Mur quay, old city center and the main tram lines (1, 7) to central railway station Graz. I enjoyed the good and rich breakfast buffet. It is a good choice for short sightseeing and business trips.
Review 82:Fantastic breakfast and location. So close to all the sights and within walking distance to the train station. Highly recommend this hotel and would love to go back.
Review 83:Unusual arrangement and space organization of rooms and bathroom in family suite.
Review 84:Great location - 100m from Hauptplatz, in pedestrian area. Spacious and clean rooms.
Review 85:On the ground-floor is a period bar-room. Currently it's closed, but I could take a look. The beautiful vintage furniture and very particular liberty decorations will soon be replaced with a new design. This is really a shame!
Review 86:I had a spacious room on the 4th floor, which offered a beautiful view of the Schloßberg and Kunsthaus. Mariahilferstrasse is center of the hippest shops and pubs, the tram-stop is nearby to reach the railwaystation and any other destination. In comparison to the other hotels in the same zone the Hotel Mariahilf has very reasonable prices.
Review 87:The shower in room 106 is too small for an average size human. The cleaner ripped my t-shirt and never apologised. There is an additional tax after you have already paid that is not clearly explained - it's not a lot of money (something like one euro per night) but still rather annoying. Not major but a bit noisy at night, at least on lower floors.
Review 88:Great location. Price is very reasonable by comparison to other options. Breakfast is okay and coffee is great. Generally it is a good option if you are trying to keep costs reasonable and you want a decent room. All negatives are individually minor.
Review 89:Extremely basic breakfast - not only is the selection of foods poor, but the staff didn't care much to refill any containers (even water!!!). Furnishing leaves a lot to be desired and feels very cheap. Whole place could be a lot cleaner.
Review 90:Location is superb! Literarily meters from the town center. Garage is close to the hotel. Reception is always staffed with friendly locals. Heating works well. Spacey room.
Review 91:Nothing, really.
Review 92:The location was very good, right in the middle of the city. Friendly and helpfull staff, good wifi also in the room. Basic breakfast and room standard, but more than good enough for me.
Review 93:-- Car access is tricky - hard to get to -- Layout of room with two single beds had them on opposite side of the room - unusual setup
Review 94:-- Nice neighborhood, on pedestrian street - many restaurants around -- Walking distance to center of Graz -- Very nice breakfast -- Clean -- Staff were nice
Review 95:The location is simply perfect, right next to the main tourist attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They spoke a good English. The breakfast was good. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The idea of not having WiFi all the time (need to put effort in getting codes every day for each device) actually helps you socialize, meet new people, leave your smartphone for a while and enjoy a more fulfilling vacation.
Review 96:The WiFi signal is very weak, it almost can not be used in the room. The breakfast selection is weak.
Review 97:Good value for money hotel, excellent location, comfortable bed
Review 98:Had a slight problem trying to get to the hotel by car.
Review 99:Absolutely everything, the young lady at reception booked us at a lovely restaurant close by for an evening meal, the room and bathroom were very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was well presented with plenty of choices fresh and hot we intend to return soon and location excellent for centre, restaurants and sights to see.
Review 100:the building is too old. creaking parquet. bathroom with only bath to use, otherwise you'll flood the room. wifi was very weak and slow.
Review 101:central location. parking next to hotel at reasonable overnight rate. really large room, incl. bathroom. good breakfast
Review 102:Had as requested a quiet room on top floor.Need written directions for opening procedure of roof window -- took me a while to figure this out.
Review 103:Location in pedestrian zone and right on the river, good selection for breakfast, nice breakfast room, fast and friendly check-in and check-out,
Review 104:- small bed (90 cm) - no shower curtain
Review 105:- very central location close to the major sites - good value for the money (nothing terrific, but everything was o.k) - friendly helpful staff
Review 106:The rooms were dated The floor in my room was so squeaky & uneven Wi fi dropped out continually Smallest TV I've seen in a hotel room in the past. 20 years
Review 107:Location was excellent A few minutes walk to old Graz town centre Located one street from the River Mur
Review 108:Breakfast service a bit casual, uncleared tables meant sitting amongst debris of others!
Review 109:Very convenient location to centre, pleasant older style hotel
Review 110:Uncomfortable room, completely out-of-date furniture, bathroom verysmall and needs modernization; no free parking - the one that is offeredis hard to find (it's not next to the hotel) and costs 15 euros
Review 111:Good breakfast and localization
Review 112:- No parking at the hotel. Although you are allowed to load and unload your baggage in front of the hotel (which is good) you then have to move your car to a paid garage some 150 metres away (13 EUR per day) - WiFi connection paid (1 EUR per day - is it really wort the administration around the payment?), but not very fast - no carpet on the floor in the room (parquets are very nice, but noisy) - ventilation of bathroom/toilet through window leading to a bedroom - really noisy pubgarden just in front of the hotel - with no airconditioning in the rooms, in hot summer nights until around 11 p.m. you have to choose between listening to people drinking there (in case you open the window) and boling in your body juices (in case you don´t).
Review 113:- really spacious and stylish apartment - good location just outside the borders of the centre. - Located on pedestrian zone, i.e. no cars (but no parking as well, except for loading and unloading baggage)
Review 114:Asked for quiet room but there was a lot of noise at night from restaurant across the road and in the early morning when deliveries were made. Pleasant breakfast room but a bit small when hotel full.
Review 115:Location. Large room and bathroom. Helpful staff.
Review 116:People outside our room were talking very loudly at 4:30 in the morning. Also charged 1 euro for wifi. Just give it for free like any other hotel.
Review 117:The location is excellent to get to the inner city attractions.
Review 118:Room faced the garbage bins and attracted mosquitos. While checking out a receptionist by the name Gabriele Lackner asked me to pay separate for using the wifi even though when I checked in I asked them to charge it to my card and the check-in receptionist had confirmed that she had done so. When I pointed out the fact Mrs Lackner became aggressive and started yelling. When I pointed out that because of her rude manners they will lose me as a customer she said with an arrogant smirk that she didn't care at all. I have never encountered such a rude hotel employee before. I travel frequently to Graz for business and I will never again stay at Mariahilf because of Gabriele Lackner. I will also recommend all my colleagues who travel there to avoid that hotel as well.
Review 119:Bathroom - room for improvement.
Review 120:Location and atmosphere . Breakfast is very good. Room is comfortable.
Review 121:Great location, comfortable room, big bathroom, good breakfast.
Review 122:Very uncomfortable beds. You can fell every spring.
Review 123:Great location. Nice breakfast.
Review 124:Poor breakfast
Review 125:Perfect location
Review 126:Excellent location, breakfast satisfying, room clean and comfy..
Review 127:Great location.
Review 128:Pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. Good location.
Review 129:rooms like in a hostel, definitely not worth 3 stars,
Review 130:city center, staff friendly
Review 131:Wifi is unacceptable. It's impossible to surf with that
Review 132:Breakfast and location
Review 133:Wifi didn`t work not at all.
Review 134:The elvator was out of order
Review 135:Very closed to centrum
