Reviews for Hostal Cristina

Review 1:Thought that balcony meant it had its own balcony - actually meant, so far as our room was concerned, there was an external walkway passing by the window to the room accessing the other rooms along the walkway so having the window open and the curtains was not an option.

Review 2:good position - very pleasant staff - typical quaint spanish style accommodation - restaurant was OK -

Review 3:El Rocio is a must visit location. Such a different spot. Great for exploring the Doñana park and cheaper than Matalascañas. The hotel itself is quite quaint with rustic style rooms which are clean and comfortable and have a/c for the hotter times of the year. Good restaurant if a little pricey although not out of place with the other restaurants in town.

Review 4:Been here before and still think the beds are a tiny bit hard.

Review 5:Love the hotel in general, the restaurant serves great food although not the cheapest in the area. The hotel has character to match the town and the rooms have A/C. Nice big showers too.

Review 6:The bedroom was a little noisy. The door rattled in the wind, although we easily cured it by jamming a mat between the door and frame.

Review 7:The location and restaurant are excellent.

Review 8:Nothing bad to report but take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper and visit during the nesting season. The corridor running between the bedrooms is open at both ends (it has a roof so you won't get wet if it rains!), and swallows and starlings were very noisy in the early hours of the morning! Personally it didn't matter (a joy to hear for me!) but birds chattering noisily a few feet away may prove irritating to some.

Review 9:Quaint and very traditional Hostal. Not luxurious by any means but has everything you need for your stay. Located in the main square near the impressive Church and a 2 minute stroll away from the lake. Impressive traditional menu in the restaurant and the food was good. Breakfast (8am - 11am so no good if you want to be up and out very early!) was fruit juice, toast with a choice of cold meats, cheese, jams and pate. The rooms are not huge but plenty of room for 2. Impeccably clean bathrooms with plenty of towels and various toiletries including hand soap so ideal if you arrive missing something.

Review 10:The bed was rather short and my husband's feet hung over the end. He is not tall, 5'10". Would have liked a hairdryer in the room.

Review 11:Great location, excellent restaurant and helpful staff. Altho the room was very plain and sparse it was comfortable.

Review 12:Room was not as advertised, no minibar, TV falling off wall, not en-suite, tiny bath far too small to bathe in. No hot water. Toilet leaked all over the floor. Despte the fact that they say that having an additional bed in the room is not possible we got one without requesting it.which made the room even more cramped.

Review 13:Breakfast poor, very sweet orange juice, awful bread, bad tasting tomate frit.Very cold room ,hard to get warm, very little space even in room even in bathroom.

Review 14:Nice warm restaurant with decent Spanish cooking and good atmosphere

Review 15:This is my first really quite negative review on booking.com but I thoroughly disliked my stay at Cristina. I am an outdoors type of fellow, hate being cooped up in dark boxes of rooms and so always try to book somewhere with an outside space. I chose Cristina over other places with higher review scores, as it said the rooms had patios and if you were lucky you might get a room with a view over the lake. When I booked, I specifically asked for such a room with the lake view if it were at all possible. When I arrived I was given a room that was a bit cramped but comfortably furnished with a decent bed, but which had no outside space and only one window onto a walkway to other rooms. To have any privacy you had to keep the blind closed, so to me it felt like a dark and claustrophobic place. Perhaps I should have kicked up a fuss, but did not find it easy to communicate with the owners who spoke no English and my Spanish is only passable. I did try to explain that I wanted a patio but the either they could not or didn't want to understand.I accepted the room as, as far as I could see, none of the other rooms had patios either ( I think they misrepresent their accommodation on booking.com) but did not like staying there at all.I subsequently discovered that NOT ONE of the three rooms with small balconies and views over the lake were occupied that night, so It was quite obvious that they did not think I was worthy of a nice room and I suspect that had I been a glamorous young couple it would have been a different matter entirely. The implication was quite clear: I was only a solo traveller who could be shoved into any old room as I would not appreciate anything any better. These people should understand that solo travellers like, appreciate and cherish the memories of the nice places that they stay in, just as much as anyone else.

Review 16:El Rocio is a delightful village with sandy streets, verandas everywhere, a lovely white church (shrine, I think) and lots of atmosphere. Charming, but don't be beguiled by some of the reviews that say its an old-fashioned backwater - it's no slouch when it comes to milking the visitors as the restaurant prices will show you. Cristina is in a very good position on one of the "plazas", has a large nicely presented restaurant and a pretty downstairs walkway with lots of plants. It also has three rooms with little juliet balconies on the first floor overlooking the lake.

Review 17:Only thing was that the bed was super firm. But after spending the night previous on the ferry from Tenerife I still managed to sleep.

Review 18:The pension is in a fantastic location, well worth a visit, unfortunately I was only passing through so only saw a small part of the town. The restaurant serves great food.

Review 19:breakfast not very exciting

Review 20:location, friendliness

Review 21:Loved the restaurant. Rooms a little small but adequate and pleasant decor

Review 22:Basic rooms and a bit noisy - not much sound proofing!

Review 23:Great location, very smiley helpful waiters.

Review 24:ambience and location next to Donana

Review 25:Nobody speaks english, not even a word!

Review 26:Room was beautiful, staff was nice.

Review 27:None.

Review 28:The staff and owners always gave us a nice friendly welcome , and helped us with our Spanish and I hope we helped them with there English.

Review 29:Location!

Review 30:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 31:The marshes were just beginning to fill with water in their yearly cycle. So beautiful.

Review 32:No breakfast before 8 am. Small bed.

Review 33:Friendly staff. Good location. Nice little town.

Review 34:Nice place to stay in El Rocio. The best restaurant in the town

Review 35:rooms very old

Review 36:amazing area and the best meal of the holiday. muy bonita sitio y la mejor comida de mi vacacion

Review 37:this place was fab - it was not pretentious in any way, a lovely place to stay in the middle of no where! don't go there if you need mod cons.

Review 38:If you arrive by bus it's a very long walk over sand- difficult with a suitcase. Very little English spoken by staff. Not enough, or any, vegetables with dinner, but this seems common in Spain.

Review 39:El rocio is a great place to visit. This hotel had lots if charm and attentive staff.

Review 40:The same as most other places in Spain and Portugal - a very limited menu for anyone that doesn't want to eat meat / fish 3 times a day. But no worse than the rest...

Review 41:Very good location for the national park tours and activities. I even had a view of the lake with birds and wild horses from my window. The staff were very friendly too.

Review 42:The rooms are very small and most look inwards so are very dark. Small rooms can be ok if they are fitted out accordingly - these were not. Also there is a plastic bed bed liner/undersheet which makes sleep impossible - my advice is remove it immediately

Review 43:The location and the town itself

Review 44:Location wise, it was miles from Huelva and we only wanted an overnight. Also difficult to find, even with Sat Nav. Small, cramped room. Naff bathroom. Not very clean either. The area (we found out later) is full of mosquitoes and there is a Leishmaniasis problem in the area. If you have a pet, I'd give it a wide berth. It's on the edge of a lake and the windows/doors are all cracked, allowing entry of all winged/crawling insects! Be warned!

Review 45:The restaurant was open late. Lively and busy. Too late for us to eat after a 22.30h arrival, so can't comment on the food. Quaint, if you like quaint. El Rioco is quite an individual place. Looks like it came out of a Western. Takes pets

Review 46:We stayed 5 nights and the bathroom was not cleaned during the stay. The towels were changed every day. There was no place for cloths or luggade in the room.

Review 47:The location by the lake. The food was excellent, the Staff very friendly.

Review 48:Some of the rooms are a bit on the small side, but adequate for a short stay.

Review 49:The hotel is very attractive and the family are friendly, especially if you can speak a little Spanish. The food in the restaurant is typically Spanish, not haute cuisine, but wholesome and well-presented, and very good value. The location is very good for exploring the Doñana national park.

Review 50:Chips with every dinner

Review 51:Fabulous tradition family, Andalusian hostal. Our rooms faced the marismas- sighting of flamingos and horses at sunset. Rooms were quiet, comfortable, pretty and clean. Simple traditional breakfast and dinners. El Rocio is amazing and Cristina in a perfect location.

Review 52:Not a criticism as such, but menu was limited for a week's stay.

Review 53:Staff couldn't do enough for us. Very polite and personable. More like family. Hotel is in Excellent location for bird lovers.

Review 54:The breakfast is minimal and could include some eggs or fruit

Review 55:The atmosphere was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and the location in El Rocio is excellent

Review 56:I got what I expect from a medium-priced hotel. Given the price, it certainly gives you value for money. I even had a view of the lake from my window.

Review 57:Rooms are very small as are the bathrooms. Cold in winter, hot in summer. No air conditioning.Poor quality bed.

Review 58:Excellent location, easy parking right outside. Atmospheric restaurant with good food and attentive staff. Good view of lake from room no.29

Review 59:WI-FI weak on the room but ok! in restaurant. Room on the small side, but that was known before booking.

Review 60:Nice view from room. Very nice restaurant with good service. Very quite. Sufficient parking.

Review 61:Rooms not air-conditioned as stated only a oil heater which kept the room warm.

Review 62:Very pretty place and the atmosphere of the place is like stepping back in time....wonderfull and peaceful.English not spoken but the owner very helpfull and goes the extra mile....

Review 63:The room was small, the bathroom smaller. But this is a budget hotel. The restaurant was adequate, not brilliant.

Review 64:We had a room overlooking the lake, which was marvellous.

Review 65:Blankets kept us warm at night, but outside bed the room was quite cold-we were there in november- and the heater would only help so much. Thisseems to be a problem in many places in Spain though, so be preparedwhen going there in winter!

Review 66:Simple yet nice and cozy in a typical Andalusian house. Staff was superattentive and nice, the food in the restaurant delicious (do try theCaldo Rociero!!!). Great base for tours into Doñana and excellent price-quality ratio.

Review 67:Late breakfasttime 9-12 .

Review 68:Birdwatching from roomwindow over coto donana. Nice patia with flowers.Value for money: 40 euro single room half board. God food beer included.

Review 69:We visited the El Rocio festival. Although we were outsiders we were made to feel very much at home and the staff were friendly and very helpful. It was an amazing experience

Review 70:The mattress was awful. We turned it and that helped a little. The roomwas damp on arrival and it took 24 hours for the room to heat up...therewas an oil radiator. Off season this was a surreal experience...so fewpeople about and so many places closed.

Review 71:The restaurant was very good, we had two meals there and enjoyed both. The Reception Staff were very helpful. The surroundings wereinterestingly unreal...we arrived after a deluge and had to navigate themuddy unfinished roads with great care. But as a one-off this was a funexperience.

Review 72:Very expensive, basic breakfast, if your deal doesn't include it take it elsewhere!

Review 73:Clean but rather basic rooms that are cold in the winter months!

Review 74:Only one plug in room and no chair to sit on.

Review 75:So convenient for town and central for birding in Donana nationalpark

Review 76:lack of possibility to make tea or coffee in the room

Review 77:location, atmosphere,

Review 78:The location in the centre of el rocio and next to the Laguna was ideal for.

Review 79:The bed (double) was a bit small for 2 dutch people :)

Review 80:Friendly staff. Nice location.

Review 81:Dog friendly, nice staff, comfortable accommodation and good food. Th town of El Rocio is certainly different

Review 82:Very cramped shower room, - this can't really be helped - shower curtain too short.

Review 83:Friendly welcome, food, location, bedrooms, building itself.

Review 84:nothing

Review 85:location and food

Review 86:Location Building Restaurant/bar and staff Relaxed atmosphere

Review 87:Small rooms, small beds, uninspired restaurant

Review 88:Nice staff, good location

Review 89:Bedroom on the small side and bathroom definitely pokey.

Review 90:Atmosphere, situation, view of lake, food.

Review 91:!

Review 92:everything
