Parador de Pontevedra

Parador de Pontevedra descritpion
This impressive 16th-century palace is located in the historic heart of Pontevedra and is classically decorated in true Parador style with an elegant restaurant serving delicious, regional cuisine.

Relax in the elegant lounge areas and catch up with the day's newpapers or on the free wireless internet.

Reviews for Parador de Pontevedra
Review 1:No brushes in the toilettes! The breakfast was moderate for 17 Euro. The whole night long yougsters were celebrating very loudly in the bar just across the square, so we could not sleep with an open window.
Review 2:The greate building, cosy rooms, elegant setting, very pleasent people. Central location.
Review 3:Room a bit dark....could have done with a couple more lights but that was the only small thing
Review 4:Well located + a beautiful old building. Huge room, comfy bed, shutters to keep out noise + light....really helpful + friendly staff
Review 5:Building is worn out, needs updating. For a different price, this would be a good place, but it was one of the most expensive places we stayed in two weeks in Spain and not up to par. We had a nice stay, but we felt the price wasn't aligned with the offerings.
Review 6:Lovely old building in a beautiful city.
Review 7:The dining room was lacking in design and atmosphere. We felt the lighting was a bit dark in our room. It would be nice to have even one English speaking entertainment channel, as opposed to just news, on the tv.
Review 8:The food was very good. The hotel itself, particularly the public areas, is very beautiful. The staff were a little reserved to begin with but became more animated once we got to know them
Review 9:Parking can be difficult as the parador has space for only about a dozen cars and outside is a tow-away zone.
Review 10:The location in the centre of the old town is perfect and the town itself is lovely and well worth walking round. The service in the parador was impeccable and the food in their restaurant was good.
Review 11:Not sure why a previous guest complained about the beds being single......they are large singles (3'6") next to one another like a huge double bed...very comfortable and spacious......as in most Paradors in Spain. Loved our short stay here en-route to Santiago Compostella.
Review 12:That I couldn't stay another day!!
Review 13:2 things (1) I needed advice on 2 matters on arrival - both were expedited by the receptionisto (2) I was just in time for breakfast on arrival, early on departure - this was no problema to the lady doing the business there. I'm a kiwi, we don't tip - but both those folk got tips. People make places, those two are a credit to Paradores.
Review 14:Full restaurant breakfast not available before 8am- too late for some guests (not just us!)
Review 15:Good location near old town. Quiet upper floor room. Hotel provided basic 'early' breakfast as we had to checkout before restaurant opened.
Review 16:Difficult to find. Maybe some direction signs in the city would help.
Review 17:Staff are very helpful and friendly. Beds are comfy and lots of facilities in the hotel. Grand hotel but a little tired and needs touch up painting to cover scuff marks.
Review 18:Service and attention to detail were not of a high standard! On check in we waited for 5mins for service due to receptionist having a cigarette. Overall customer service standards were not befitting a hotel of this standard. Limited internet access was a big problem for us. Property is spectacular but attention to detail was not evident! Restaurant lighting (external) was not appropriate to create ambience in such a beautiful setting.
Review 19:The building is magnificent and a good location.
Review 20:Excellent staff rapport. Facilities quite clean. Great place to stay if you are on the Camino and need a special accommodation to rest and rejuvenate. Even if not on the Camino, it is superb place with helpful staff. Great ambience.
Review 21:Randomness of breakfast service. Only 1 member of staff available so buffet not re stocked on Sunday morning and hot drinks slow to come.
Review 22:Location. Nice big room.
Review 23:Dining room for an evening meal lacks atmosphere although food was very good.
Review 24:Great hotel in a lovely old building. Excellent location in the centre of the old town. Good choice of breakfast - cooked and continental. Quiet peaceful rooms and friendly staff.
Review 25:Room furnishing and bed was quite dated (and not in a charming antique sort of way). Parquet floors in room were very creaky needed much repair.
Review 26:Great location in old town center. Classic old mansion well kept. Room had nice view of garden.
Review 27:The beds were two twins beds pushed together, and a little uncomfortable. I think we ended up with twin beds because the staff gave us a bigger/better room, but I think it's odd that the hotel would offer two twin beds in lieu of a king sized bed.
Review 28:The hotel staff gave us a corner room - it had a balcony, high ceilings, and huge windows. The hotel also had a computer with internet access in the lobby, which was super convenient (and a rarity, as none of the hotels we stayed at on our trip had one). The location was great, and the building itself was beautiful. We ended up staying two nights because we were hiking the camino, and used this as one of our midway points.
Review 29:The limited parking facilities and the fact that they did not propose alternatives covered by the Parador. The receptionist were not very helpful.
Review 30:The impressive building, big and clean rooms, comfortable beds. The breakfast.
Review 31:No wifi in the room! Car park was minute.
Review 32:The lovely terrace was a great place to chill out and the food was good too. Hotel was a stone's throw from all the town's sights and restaurants.
Review 33:No bad experiences whatsoever.
Review 34:The location of this property is perfect. The building is beautifully maintained, and the staff at reception were very welcoming.
Review 35:We arrived after check-in time to find our room not ready. Staff were not that welcoming. It may have been our misfortune to stay when there was a wedding reception which meant the staffs focus was on that. The breakfast room was uninspiring; I suspect normally breakfast would have been possible in the garden area but had not been cleared following the wedding reception. The breakfast was not up to the standard that we had experienced in all the other hotels on our visit to Galicia.
Review 36:The location. On-site car parking, but limited.
Review 37:Wifi service wasn't great. If you are relying on this for your travel you may need to use it in the reception area.
Review 38:Great location and friendly staff.
Review 39:Lots of pub style advertising on the outside but realised after a while they were only for decoration! A shame as we arrived very hot and in need of a cooling drink.Would have been nice to sit outside and relax after our journey as very pretty but instead had to go into village. Only one bolster pillow between the 2 of us so a bit uncomfortable and every noise could be heard from the wooden floor above us.
Review 40:Easy to find Easy to park Pretty exterior Very clean
Review 41:The locals were a little on the noisy side in the middle of the night.
Review 42:This was a grand historic and spacious building in old town Pontevedra, which has now magnificently been converted into a hotel. Take the time to explore the entire building as it has fine art, comfortable meeting places, hidden gardens, and fine interiors.
Review 43:Nothing
Review 44:This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff were terrific, the room was superb, the evening meal was excellent and amazing value - we just loved the whole experience.
Review 45:This one is getting a little tired. I have been in better ones - more up-to-date. Poor internet reception. We were much disturbed by the midnight shunting of furniture from some other room!
Review 46:We like the spaciousness of the Paradors, plenty of room, large bathrooms, lots of seating areas and lounges.
Review 47:We are non smokers and tried to 2 different rooms to avoid the smell of smoke in the rooms.
Review 48:great hotel in historic centre. Gorgeous hotel.
Review 49:-
Review 50:Perfect location
Review 51:Parking facilities could be a problem very limited spaces available.
Review 52:Location of Paradore. Rooms very comfortable. Good selection at breakfast.
Review 53:Having to leave!
Review 54:Lovely old palace in historic part of Pontevedra. Staff very good, particularly multi lingual Dutch receptionist.
Review 55:A bit shabee.
Review 56:location, food, kindness of staff
Review 57:Nothing bad to report
Review 58:Quiet central location Lovely old style furnishings in rooms Tranquil gardens
Review 59:As a pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago, not a good value compared to other private accommodations.
Review 60:Nice, historic building.
Review 61:Wifi very patchy on 4th floor but when you consider the building its no surprise
Review 62:Fantastic historical building.. pleasure to use
Review 63:All excellent
Review 64:Yes this is very Unique Fernando the owner really takes care of you..very friendly. .. Worth the trip....
Review 65:Beautiful building right in the centre of town- handy for everywhere. Staff very helpful.
Review 66:Beautiful building, quiet location close to central historic district.
Review 67:Location, parking too small, an event in the restaurant, room with no view
Review 68:Staff and breakfast
Review 69:Spacious old world environment.
Review 70:The location and atmosphere.
Review 71:Ambience and breafast.
Review 72:Location
Review 73:WiFi effective only in lobby area
Review 74:Attention to detail; up-to-date facilities while preserving historical aspect of the building
Review 75:Staff were very offhand and A/C inadequate.
Review 76:Typical Parador with well-appointed room (except A/C) and elegant public rooms.
Review 77:Poor parking facilities, musty atmosphere, this hotel needs refreshing!
Review 78:Leaving
Review 79:liked it all - but we like softer beds
Review 80:hotel is located close to historical area which was buzzing - good restaurants and bars and great atmosphere
Review 81:Limited parking, poor restaurant
Review 82:Location, comfort, wifi
Review 83:The hotel was comfortable and quiet and well located for visiting Coimbra and the wonderful Roman site of Conimbriga. The staff were helpful.
Review 84:Comfortable rooms.
Review 85:Slept poorly due to nearby noisy party that went on until nearly 4am
Review 86:Friendly staff, nice restaurant, lovely rooms, good value
Review 87:Overall, an excellent place to stay. Well run, conveniently located and comfortable.
Review 88:Internet, bar prices
Review 89:Location, staff
Review 90:Old world, great terrace garden, v good value
Review 91:I loved this hotel, rooms were beautiful, view spectacular and staff friendly.
Review 92:Breakfast a silly price. Why not offer a simple breakfast in the cafeteria?
Review 93:Delightful place.
Review 94:It was noisy during the night from people outside
Review 95:Good location and breakfast was vey good
Review 96:beautiful place, great breakfast, super friendly staff. pontevedra is a lovely lovely town, and this is a great place to stay
Review 97:great location at the foot of the cable car into the mountains. helados con frutas was a great dessert.
Review 98:Good bedroom & bathroom. Beautiful decor. Arranged early breakfast.
Review 99:Dining Room - Whilst the staff were trying to be helpful, they were clearly overworked and this resulted in problems in the dining room.
Review 100:The town is interesting, lots of life, nice and busy.
Review 101:My confirmation stated I had a double room we ended up with a twin room and were told that they only have 5 double rooms so no guarantee you will get one even if booked, THIS SHOULD BE FLAGGED UP WHEN BOOKING. Breakfast was self service cramped & disorganised! juice with no glasses? plates cutlery hidden under shelves. Waitress made a big deal of bringing Coffee in small pots that filled 2cups when we were a party of 6 only when we had given her the empty jug several times to refilll did she get the message and brought a larger pot.
Review 102:Nothing would never use a Parador again not good value very disappointed.
Review 103:No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. As Air conditioning was switched off in early October, it was a little noisy trying to sleep with the windows open on one particular night.
Review 104:The Parador is so full of character you may have to put up with the creaking of original floor-boards and heavy wooden doors. It's worth it to experience the ambience of the hotel, and enjoy great food on the flower -filled terrace. Ideally situated to explore the historical centre, shops and parks of Pontevedre, and a short taxi-ride from the train station. Staff are professional, friendly and helpful.
Review 105:Check-in and check-out staff were unhelpful. Actually only one personwas unhelpful and rude, but he certainly made an impression.Tiny parking lot and offsite parking far away. When we arrived, the staff's welcoming greeting was "You can't park here." Offers to help with luggage only occurred after most of the work was done. Expensive breakfast with limited selection. We went elsewhere most mornings.
Review 106:Bedrooms and public rooms were lovely. Great location for walking aroundPontevedra.
Review 107:Weak or no wifi reception in the room. Tab in bathtub did not function well.
Review 108:The personel was very helpfull and the restaurant staff were even prepared to prepare us a dinner long before the official dinner time.
Review 109:our room was a LONG walk away. My mother would not have been able to make it that far had she been with us! but 2 seating opportunities along the way!
Review 110:very quiet, charming location. Small bistro served good food. Squeezed in lots of cars in the front courtyard parking. The ground floor WC were fragrant and clean all the time.
Review 111:On a Friday or Saturday night some rooms might suffer from street noise.
Review 112:Another excellent Parador, smaller than some and the dining room was more intimate - though the breakfast choice was more limited than some. Sign up in advance to a free Paradors Amigo card which provides free parking and a free drink at each Parador. Buy a Mesa meal card for 75 Euros for dinner for two with a bottle of wine, water and coffee - worth about 100 Euros but not widely publicised.
Review 113:Be sure you are driving a small car if you want to park on-site. It's a tight squeeze!
Review 114:Outstanding staff, perfect location for enjoying historic Pontevedra, including its lively plazas and tapas bars. An incredible bargain. An enjoyable historic palace, wonderfully quiet and spacious.
Review 115:Signposting to the hotel was poor when arriving from the north
Review 116:It was a very nice old building but a little run down. if you want to park there arrive early.
Review 117:The hotel has a tiny courtyard that is used as a car park (10 spaces)with some cars blocking others. It was hard to park our little hire carand once parked we didn't use it until we left. The hotel staff werevery helpful with the parking and will move cars if necessary to let youout. Once full you have to park some distance away from the hotel. Beingan ancient building the floors can be noisy and the soundproofingbetween rooms isn't great. It's easy to get woken up by people movingaround or talking in adjacent rooms. These are minor problems comparedwith the overall experience.
Review 118:The hotel is in a superb location in the historic old town. You can walkto anywhere in Pontevedra which has much to see and do. The hotel issmall and very old with a good atmosphere. There are beautiful gardens, including one on the second floor! We dined there one night and the foodwas excellent.
Review 119:A beautiful old building with all modern facilities, a lovely smallgarden, an excellent restaurant and in a perfect location forsightseeing in Pontevedra.
Review 120:We enjoyed the ambience of the old palace and it's location in the beautiful historic centre of Pontevedra. The person at reception was particularly friendly and helpful. We were sorry not to be staying for longer. The restaurant was good but very few guests seem to eat there in the evening so we were almost alone for our meal.
Review 121:The garden was very pretty and the rooms large. It is reasonably setback from the street noise which can be a problem in Spain. The deskstaff were very good. There is limited parking on site, the staff veryadept at fitting as many cars in as possible. The local police forbidparking outside the Parador so suggest arriving before 6pm.
Review 122:The fact that I had to put my head into the kitchen to alert the waitingstaff in the restaurant that we were ready and anxious to have dinnerthere.Admittedly, it was low season, where staffing may be lighter but Ihave stayed in up to 10 paradors in Spain and had not experienced thispoor restaurant service before.
Review 123:The high standard of the room I shared with my daughter and thegenerally very high quality of the building and decoration.
Review 124:The parador is right in the center of Pontevedra, and if you arriveearly you can find a place to park your car and you won´t need it duringthe rest of your stay. We went there to see a Waterboys concert in Pazode Cultura that was also walking distance. And we were very happy causethey were also at Parador and we found them at the lobby! Very nicetapas restaurants close. Try the Pulpo a feria in Fidel.
Review 125:No important criticisms.
Review 126:Convenient location, good service and very nice rooms.
Review 127:Noise outside our window lasted most of the night.
Review 128:Staff were attentive.
Review 129:Very helpfull and friendly staff. Verh good location.
Review 130:little parking altho found space 2 out of 3 days
Review 131:being central
