Reviews for Palais Hotel Erzherzog Johann
Review 1:Due to the old building the floor is a bit noisy when walking on it.
Review 2:In the heart of Graz. Well equipped and comfortable, pleasant stay. The staff was very helpful, the place is full of history.
Review 3:In the otherwise very nice bathtub there was some dirt buildup which we didn't care for.
Review 4:It was beautiful to look at, from the lobby to the interior courtyard to our room. The place is very old and they managed to keep the imperial aesthetic while having it modern and ship shape. Receptionists were very pleasant. We had some à la carte breakfast which we enjoyed thoroughly.
Review 5:Smoking allowed in hotel wasn't good, also daily room service wasn't very thorough with facilities not topped up & tea cups/tumblers remaining uncleared.
Review 6:Location was great, hotel had lots of character & tradition. Reception staff were helpful.
Review 7:A fantastic location in the heart of the old city of Graz, just steps from an important public transportation hub and close to most of the main touristical sightseeing points. The buiding is historical but modernized, thanks to a very thoughtful architectural design.
Review 8:Nothing against the hotel, but be warned that very few GPS directions are accurate and it is in the pedestrian zone. The parking garage you can park in is very close (pretty much under it) but difficult to find if you do not know the city.
Review 9:Great location and very filling breakfast. The hotel was beautiful and well maintained even as old as it is.
Review 10:Young staff lacked experience and training. No in-room dining option and hotel restaurant has no affiliation with hotel so no concern about whether guests get a meal. We ended up with pizza delivery to our room.
Review 11:Good location in walking distance of the centre and attractions.
Review 12:The lady on reception could have been more friendly....
Review 13:The location was excellent - if you want to stay in the heart of the city. A lovely hotel full of character and history.
Review 14:The same thing that you like has a negative effect of having a very noisy floors . Mattresses and pillows-are not comfortable ,they are very synthetic .
Review 15:The location , the rustic ambiance that you feel by the age of the building .
Review 16:Dim lighting; outdated decor; horrible black flocked wallpaper on one wall; a large wall picture with internal lighting. Tiny TV.
Review 17:The location is on the main street of shopping and dining. A very large room with very high ceilings.
Review 18:I wasn't very happy with my room/bed. I booked a double room and I got a (twin) room with two single beds put together. It was only worth of two separated single beds, not one double. I am sorry but it was not very comfortable.
Review 19:This hotel with old time charm has an excellent location.
Review 20:room too cold, impossible to increase the heat, you have to claim the reception for this every day. Vibration from the tramway. Smell of waste water in the bathroom. Very old furniture. No bathrobe. Breakfast too poor, no local cake, just some meat. THIS IS NOT AT ALL A FOR STARS --> Forget this address !!!
Review 21:situated in the center of the old city. no noise from the other room
Review 22:The room was not matching the pictures shown online/elevator screen. Noise from next room, especially the shower water dripping can be heard loudly. Maid did not restock the tea bags and toiletries after consumed. Breakfast buffet doesn't have as much variety as other hotels. No view from the room.
Review 23:The location is excellent and the staff has been very helpful. Walking distance to town square.
Review 24:The breakfast was extremely disappointing. Would have preferred a shower rather than a big corner bathtub and a decently sized tv (32" at least)
Review 25:The location was good for walking around the main sights. The room and bathroom were spacious and wifi was good.
Review 26:Breakfast too basic, no double glazed windows making the room too noisy when trams were passing by. Wifi signal too weak causing drop offs.
Review 27:Location, staff help and politeness, Room size.
Review 28:Shower was quite low so couldn't stand under it. Also shower screen very difficult to move into place. Breakfast only continental, anything else was extra.
Review 29:Excellent location in centre of Graz. Very helpful staff. Very clean hotel. Lots of city information available. Room very spacious with lots of comfort especially the leather lounger. Bed excellent. Reasonably priced minibar.
Review 30:Lacking attention to detail for such an hotel class!! Missing 2 light bulbs in the room- one of the electrical socket cover was broken exposing live wires and just left on the table. Wifi did not work in the room and the night manager did not seem concerned by the problem!! The breakfast was disappointing and very poorly presented! Only one waitress to attend the guests!
Review 31:The location in the old city center The old building, the lobby decoration, the size of the room!
Review 32:Staff went out of their way to be helpful, even arranging a meal for my husband who had twisted his ankle (the kitchen was closed that night) and providing an ice pack. The hotel restaurant (Das Anna) is of the highest standard and we enjoyed a superb degustation menu with matching wines and discussion with Anna. A wonderful way to end our stay.
Review 33:The main problem concerns parking. The garage does not belong to hotel, has got the other address, is difficult to be found for the newcomer. The worst thing is that nothing about the garage is written in order information, which means that it appears suddenly after long way under the rain, when GPS took you to the municipality square forbidden to cross by car. Moreover, when we came to the reception, "nice" girl with poor English explained that it's your problem, and any other guest manages. It's very pity to spoil the whole impression of excellent city and a hotel in its centre because of such absurdity.
Review 34:The hotel is nice and perfectly located in the centre of Graz.
Review 35:My only bad experience was that on my second evening I had a noisy neighbour. When I contacted the reception the hotel staff took immediate action, moving me to another (not quite so nice but still perfectly satisfactory) room. I was delighted and could sleep without problem.
Review 36:In every respect this hotel met my needs and was a pleasant place to stay. It is excellently located just of the city's central square.
Review 37:The location was not ideal for our needs as we did not have a car and it was up a very steep hill so could not walk into the nearest town. In saying that, if we had a car it would be an excellent location so our own fault.
Review 38:Very friendly and accommodating staff who went out their way to help.
Review 39:The only letdown was the breakfast. Whilst it was good (including freshly made egg dishes) we had expected more variety and quality for a 4 star hotel and at €15 per person.
Review 40:All the hotel staff were friendly and professional both before check-in and during our stay. The location is excellent for exploring the old town of Graz as well as for shopping, eating and drinking in the many nearby shops, bars and restaurants. Our bathroom was huge. The whole hotel oozes with charm.
Review 41:The card machine did not function and I had to speed to an atm before leaving
Review 42:The situation, the room and furnishings, as well as the helpfulness of staff
Review 43:Location. Problems getting to the hotel using our GPS. The entrance to the hotel was on a one way street for trams, that you could only drive on if you were a hotel guest.
Review 44:Atmosphere of staying in a historic hotel. Walking distance to many tourist sites.
Review 45:The hotel could use a refurbishment (bathrooms, facilities). Also there is room for imporvement for the service and the breakfast. Price-value-ratio.
Review 46:It definitively doesn't get any better in terms of location: Located almost at the main square and right below the Schlossberg. The interior is nicely decorated.
Review 47:Heating - you cannot open the window for aeration - impossible to heat the room afterward. Toilet paper - Never seen such a low quality toilet paper!
Review 48:Very friendly staff, excellent location.
Review 49:No hotel dinner --- but it had been too expensive, hence no customers --- so just as well there are good and bad restaurants nearby.
Review 50:The former high class restaurant failed, and is now a nice café closing at 7.00 p.m. General traditional feel of hotel still very good and breakfast remains high standard. No new trouble with poor curtains at this visit, which was a relief.
Review 51:hotel very old, old bathrooms and very uncomfortable narrow beds. From 6 in the morning could not sleep through the creaky floors.on the street leading to the hotel is a ban on of entry. Public car park is located behind the building and there is no indication that it is also for the hotel guests so in my oppinion it's hard to get there.
Review 52:I have been in this hotel more than once. There seems to be a problem or two always. This time there was no plug in my bath and some other smaller matters. This rate hotel you would expect a bit more.
Review 53:This is a hotel with an excellent location and an old-time charm. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. Well performing Internet connection this time.
Review 54:The beds are terribly worn down, and need to be replaced. The bathroom is also not up to standard. The last upgrade of this hotel must have been in the 70th.
Review 55:The staff is very friendly, location is good, though difficult to find with a car. The room was big.
Review 56:Some rooms require sort of refresh, while mainaining the overall "atmosphere"
Review 57:Excellent position, staff very friendly and reactive to assiste on some issues (i.e. parking for bicycles)
Review 58:Nothing. Hotel was excellent.
Review 59:Everything: Professional and friendly staff Right in the city center Room was large, bed very comfortable. Hotel is beautiful. Will stay here again when I visit Graz.
Review 60:The restaurant, bar, and sidewalk patio were closed because it was August. It is a very old building and the wood floors were extremely squeaky. No sneaking to the bathroom! We only had hot water for most of one day but it was fixed once the maintenance staff arrived.
Review 61:Once we found the hotel we had a lovely stay. Google Maps fell short and we were lost for an hour, eventually we stopped by the police station and they escorted us right to the front door. We were very grateful :) There was lots more to do in Graz then we had thought. The Front Desk supplied us with a walking tour that would rival anything Rick Steves' could produce. The hotel only had 1 parking spot as they had just build a patio on the sidewalk, but we were able to keep the car there. The breakfast was great with lots of variety. The hotel is beautiful with lots of chandeliers and plants. They have a small deck on the roof but it rained too much for us to use it. Our room was huge and you could have had a party in the bathroom.
Review 62:No facilities outside your basics, so don't expect that.
Review 63:excellent location; in the heart of Graz. Reception staff was kinda, nice and helpful. Rooms are from big to massive. Love the planted halls.
Review 64:Noise flour the air condition was very hot and we can't increase the fan speed our reducing the claimet they fix the remote control on the wall ,no porter and no Rome service after 8pm as a hotel withe 4 star
Review 65:Good location nice and clean building
Review 66:There were a couple of very small frustrations: because it was summer, things like the bar closed early, at 9pm which was a shame. Also, the air con was very loud, but the windows in the room wouldn't open, so I had to alternate between switching it on and off during the night. Overall, though, these were very minor compared to all the good points of the hotel.
Review 67:The room was fantastic, and the hotel was very beautiful and in a great location for the restaurants and bars of the Old Town. It also made great use of the space available. The breakfast was good and the staff very polite and even friendly, which was great. I really liked it.
Review 68:The air conditioning was controlled by the front desk. That was not cool enough for me. But they responded quickly with a room fan. They made sure I was happy!
Review 69:This is a charming hotel in an excellent location for exploring Graz. The room was large. The bathroom was quite large. The breakfast was "American". In all, a very good traveling experience.
Review 70:Tram noise starts at 0500 but it is not a problem if you are happy to sleep with the windows closed (the A/C is modern and quiet).
Review 71:Traditional ambience in keeping with Graz itself; very helpful and efficient staff.
Review 72:friendly atmosphere
Review 73:Noise penetrated from other rooms. Creaky floors.
Review 74:Position.
Review 75:rooms were in desperate need of a refurb and restaurant was empty!
