Reviews for Hostal Rural La Fonda Del Rocio

Review 1:Very disappointed that a cuddly toy boar went missing from our room on the day that it was cleaned - my Spanish not good enough to say anything, so had to leave it.

Review 2:Clean, neat little place. Breakfast more than adequate.

Review 3:There was a problem that the shower didn't drain well, so the water could only be on for less than a minute at a time or the room would flood.

Review 4:We were there in December and were the only guests. The skeleton staff treated us very well and helped us figure out how to go on a bird tour. Beautiful place and lovely room. Recommended!

Review 5:The room we had was rather strange in that two single beds pushed together took almost all the sleeping area leaving little room for manoeuvring. It also contained a fridge/freezer that was annoying during the night.

Review 6:Well positioned and friendly welcome.

Review 7:El Rocío is a very interesting town, and the hotel is located very close to the center. If you like birdwatching this area is very interesting to visit.

Review 8:We thought we were sleeping in a cupboard also quite damp Not even a window to the outside.

Review 9:Location staff were VERY good also the breakfast excellent.

Review 10:Staff member very inflexible on breakfast. We had an early start for bird trip at 08.00. Breakfast was at 07.30 and we asked for it to be earlier if possible. She said no straight away and I had to prove that we were on the trip before she begrudgingly agreed to breakfast 15 minutes early. Not impressive.

Review 11:Ideal location for bird trip into Donana Nature Reserve

Review 12:Probably a result of the high temperature but we were aware of several insects in our room Breakfast was minimal.

Review 13:Good location for visiting the National Park of Donana

Review 14:We enjoyed our stay a lot! No negative points!

Review 15:Everything! The hotel is beautiful, comfortable and the staff really friendly and very helpful! If we were to go back to El Rocio we would want to stay there again!

Review 16:Wife did not like the fact that all roads and pavements were of sand. It was like a western town from the movies.

Review 17:Quiet and near the nature reserve. Staff were very friendly. Parking was just outside. Breakfasts.

Review 18:None.

Review 19:Very friendly staff especially Celia on reception who is very informative about the area and places of interest, speaks French and English I can't recomend her highly enough.

Review 20:The design of the building means the room doesn't get much natural light so it was rather dark. For those who have mobility problems, be sure to specify that you need a ground floor room as there is no lift.

Review 21:Good location and friendly staff.

Review 22:Riding a heavily laden sports tourer motorcycle on sand roads was horrible. Don't stay here unless you can rider on sand roads, which in places are 2 to 3 inches deep...

Review 23:Fantastic church , brilliant sunset and wildlife. Very different!!

Review 24:During the end of the festival the noise. After the festival the quiet. An H&S issue I identified and brought to their attention was corrected very quickly!

Review 25:El Rocio is an amazing place and the hotel is in a reasonable location. Man in charge seemed to do everything including getting breakfast. He was really nice and very hospitable. The rooms are slightly weird with no windows but air con was good. Breakfast very basic but ok.

Review 26:Clattering airco; whiffy smell in patio area

Review 27:Fits the 'wild-west' town perfectly; good value (but avoid the May pilgrimage period); VERY convenient for enjoying Doñana's nature

Review 28:Be aware that the hotel will convert your bill to GBP (UK guests) and charge you a mark-up for doing so. They did this to me despite my request to pay in euros. The invoice states euros, the card-reader display states euros, but the card-reader print-out (which most people stuff into their pocket or wallet without reading) states that it will be converted and that you agreed to it. This is dishonest and illegal behaviour. I emailed the hotel regarding this matter, but they did not respond.

Review 29:The receptionist had some difficulty with Internet transactions, but fortunately we were using cash

Review 30:The hotel had a nice cool atmosphere and very helpful staff. Its situation in a town of sandy, veranda'd streets where Cowboys would have looked at home, was stunning enough- but the birdwatching was really special, lots of flamingos.

Review 31:The room was clean and spacious and the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. They were most helpful in helping us with local tours and telling us places to go. We will definitely return.

Review 32:Nothing.

Review 33:Lovely hostal tucked away in heart of El Rocio, a stones-throw distance fro. The marshes, excellent location for birding. Rocio the lady in reception who is uber friendly & charming, organised an early breakfast which was superb! Recommended!

Review 34:The hostal could do with some basic upgrading. The mattresses could certainly do with changing. They are very hard and not too comfortable. Also we are used to travelling around Spain where there are no kettles in the room, so we always bring our own. It would be nice to have tea-making facilities in each room. We like to have a few cups of nice Irish tea each morning before starting the day. Also, it would be nice to have a few more plugs in the room and maybe another chair for two people to sit down. The wifi was also very weak, even though we were only a few metres from the receiver. Other than those basic upgrades, this hostal was great.

Review 35:The young staff in this hostal are very nice people, always with a smile on their face to greet their customers. They are also very helpful. Even the cleaning girl is very considerate. When she was cleaning the rooms, despite us being late risers, she made very little noise allowing us to enjoy our lie-ins, every day. It is more consideration than we have got in more expensive places. The hotel is situated on a nice quiet road. It does get a bit noisy between about 7-8am, but at all other times it's very quite. As we are vegans, and Spain is a difficult country to get vegan food eating out, I loved the fact that our room had a big fridge-freezer in the room, so that we could store all our food in it.

Review 36:El Rocio with its sand, horses and lagoon. This is a well located small hotel/ guest house with very helpful, friendly staff, parking outside, with adequate rooms and a good breakfast. There are good restuarants within easy walking distance. Wifi is very good, but only available in the reception area.

Review 37:Slightly long way from the bus stop.

Review 38:Veryy friendly service, leisurely breakfast served to tables, all in all pleasant and very good value. Reception was very good at helpiing with any questions that arose.

Review 39:The room was very basic and we struggled to open the door lock. The loft bedroom for the kids was via a wobbly ladder and the safety of it not good enough for young children.

Review 40:El Rocio is like no other place in the world and is a must to see. It therefore makes any place to stay in seem like heaven. The charming staff deserve most credit for the great holiday at the Hostal. The reception foyer is a nice place to enjoy the ambience although don't expect the wi-fi to work well.

Review 41:Not much. While there was a fridge there was no cutlery or bowls but we had our own.

Review 42:Perfect for our purposes, to get out early, come back dirty, and sleep close to the marsh and donana park. Shower and bed, free bathroom goodies, tv, fresh sheets and towels each day, more like a hotel than a hostal. Fridge in room was a bonus.

Review 43:Couldn't boil water in the room. And wifi is rather weak in the room.

Review 44:Quiet during the week and quite full during the weekend because this is El Roccio. The brotherhood come during the weekend for activities. Could be quite fun as well. The hotel is few minutes walk from the lake and the church but not very far from convenient store and restaurants. Room with window towards the patio is better than the one with window towards outside. Anyway, there's no view outside. Staff's nice and helped us to book the safari tour. November is not yet a good season to see some birds. The lake in El Roccio was filled with water when we arrive by the end of November. But the wetland is rather dry. Only some ducks. Guess most of the birds haven't arrived yet. We took the bus tour with the big green bus and did the morning tour. Sort of disappointing cause there's few things to see in November. The bus driver is also the guide. He's nice and speaks good english. It seems that there's quite few trail in the park. But for 2-3 days stay, it would be more fun to walk a bit than taking the guided tour.

Review 45:Rooms rather dark, with little natural light

Review 46:Good central position Rooms small and basic, but comfortable, and good value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts good. Easy parking outside the hotel

Review 47:Nothing really to criticise.

Review 48:Stayed in this Hostal for 1 night on the way to Donana National park. It is nicely located in the Western-style village of El Rocio. I had an appartment-style room, with 1 bedroom, one pre-room with a sofa, a kitchenette and a bathroom. Staff was nice, the room was very quiet and the bed comfortable. I did not have breakfast there, but would stay there again, for its convenient location on the way to a morning excursion into the park and its good value for money.

Review 49:Wifi is free, although only in lobby area.

Review 50:Very friendly, although we arrived very late in the night. Personnel booked a horse riding event for us. Room was functional, not very big but absolutely fine for two days.

Review 51:Surprising. It is a cheap hotel in El Rocio, so do not expect a palace. But surprisingly, it offers everything you need. The room looks like nothing but the bed is comfortable and you are provided with everything you need (or don't need) like hair blower, disposable dental kit, air conditioner, flat screen tv, ... I could not think of anything missing. And El Rocio is the perfect spot to start a bird watching day and by itself is something to see as it seems to be a town of the past with lots of charms

Review 52:Air quality was no good. Not very quiet. Very little space inside room, hard to move around.

Review 53:Location, value for money, friendly staff.

Review 54:lack of natural light in the room.

Review 55:Our bikes were stored without problem, very kind staff, traditional building with nice patio.

Review 56:Windows vented to corridor, unable to get fresh air to what was hot room.

Review 57:Friendly staff in great location.

Review 58:None really.

Review 59:Our 4th trip to this hostal (not hotel). Convenience for our needs, informality, cleanliness. Staff who actually listen.

Review 60:A hotel with character in a town that must be unique.

Review 61:Convenient

Review 62:For me as a single person it was expensive, especially as there was no outside window.

Review 63:Convenient, and had room for a group of 12.

Review 64:Good breakfast but no fruits, no outdoor window

Review 65:The unique atmosphere of el Rocio, clean and big room

Review 66:Nothing

Review 67:Good location, good sized room, plenty of surfaces.

Review 68:Friendly staff, great location of the very peculiar village of El Rocio where there are no paved roads. Aircon on all rooms.

Review 69:The flies .

Review 70:It is quirky ,good wifi, good breakfast ,lovely staff.

Review 71:The bed was deadful the room cramped

Review 72:Staff lotion and breakfast good

Review 73:All the staff were very nice and pleasant especially Celia who went out of her way to help us on many occasions.

Review 74:Pleasant stay with delightful & helpful host

Review 75:Nice room, good wifi, friendly staff

Review 76:The strangeness of the unique town and the fabulous bird watching.

Review 77:Staff were friendly. Location close to all the sites and local bars. Convenient parking available. Very clean.

Review 78:Dark rooms

Review 79:Staff. Efficient aircon. I used it to HEAT the room.

Review 80:Near to Donana National Park. Sand streets and hitching posts for horses make this an unusual town that feels like another century.

Review 81:No restaurant, but others close by.

Review 82:Central, staff very helpfull.

Review 83:No frills, but All the facilities you need if you are using the hotel as a jumping off point for exploring Donana. Great value for money.

Review 84:Breakfasts were OK; but basic.

Review 85:Staff were lovely; but this is a nice economy place

Review 86:Clean, comfortable and friendly, very helpful staff! As a base for discovering the area - perfect. Close to restaurants and sights.

Review 87:Staff didn't speak English, but we communicated anyway.

Review 88:We stayed here to go to watch birds in the Parque Nacional. Breakfast was good.

Review 89:Lovely quiet and so like the old days

Review 90:Pleasant and helpful staff

Review 91:No showermat.

Review 92:Good value for money.Excellent breakfast helpfull staff.

Review 93:very cozy room, staff was helpful, andalusian breakfast was also good

Review 94:Extremely helpful staff. Breakfast excellent value.

Review 95:children allowed to run around and bang on doors at 2am, which echoed throughout the building

Review 96:location helpful staff clean

Review 97:Excellent quality/cost ratio. Personel very kind and efficient. Breakfast very nice. Place very nice and own personality.

Review 98:+place +breakfast +nice scent +parking for free by the hostal

Review 99:Wifi only at reception

Review 100:Sweet, warm and cosy

Review 101:Extremely lovely staff, nothing too much trouble.

Review 102:?????

Review 103:Sand outside

Review 104:Not much natural light in the room

Review 105:Friendly welcome Interesting building The room was basic but comfortable

Review 106:I had no dislikes.

Review 107:Perfect location and very helpful staff

Review 108:Bed was very firm Minimal breakfast

Review 109:Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 110:The girl at the reception was really nice and helpful, spoke good English. Location: in the middle of E Rocío. Really nice, authentic building with good wifi and air conditioning. Breakfast was OK.

Review 111:Initially unclear as to where I would get dinner. Explained later by different receptionist, that I would be going to a restaurant, which was good. No external window.

Review 112:Position, quiet.

Review 113:Very noisy on Friday night which meant we had to cut the trip short and leave during the night as it was impossible to sleep

Review 114:Good location for the Donana National Park. Staff were very good and didn't charge for the night we were disrupted by noise from other hotel guests.

Review 115:The arrangements for children could be called a trifle dangerous on a mezzanine type floor with little protection. At 3 of the 4 restaurants we dined at ,we were "turned over" to varying degrees, but enjoyed an excellent meal at The Rosario at E22 a head, including wine.

Review 116:Remember this is a Hostal not an Hotel,so don't expect 3/4 or 5 star comfort. That said , you will get extremely friendly, helpful staff especially on reception. The bed linen was changed every one of the 5 days we were there and the room cleaned throughout. Toiletry requisites were renewed every day. We had TV, WiFi and comfortable beds. We asked if a room with windows was available (more in hope than expectation) and lo and behold on returning the next evening , we were given a bigger room, and all of our effects had been moved in, all with the minimum fuss. Breakfast (continental) was excellent. Four of us went on a "birding" break" for which the area is renowned, and we booked, with reception, a 3 1/2 hour conducted tour to places on the Donana that we would otherwise have been unable to visit.. This too was excellent, with a superb, well informed guide who pointed out birdlife, flora and fauna that we otherwise would have missed.El Rocio is a sleepy, dusty town reminiscent of the old Wild West, and well worth a visit for even non-birders and although there are other hotels available, I would thoroughly recommend Hostal Rural La Fonda Del Rocio for very good value.

Review 117:Be aware there is only one Restaurant open on a Monday evening so check with reception, but it is very good.

Review 118:Very helpful and friendly staff, the breakfast was very good. El Rocio is a unique town and the Donana reserve is well worth a visit.

Review 119:The room was very small - too small for comfort and in order to make it a double the entrance to the bathroom had been arranged in a strange and not very hygenic fashion.

Review 120:Location in El Rocio, a picturesque rather quirky town.

Review 121:Our room must have been in the middle of renovation as we had a fitted kitchen on the wall with the window, which overlooked the courtyard. There was a 50 inch TV on the counter top and in front of this a small single bed. Very difficult to get to the window. However with this removed the room would be very spacious and comfortable.

Review 122:Very good location in El Rocio. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Clean bed linen and towels every day and plenty of complimentary toiletries. Spotlessly clean. Ample continental breakfast included. Only beer and spirits at the bar, but no problem bringing your own wine and borrowing glasses.

Review 123:... can´t think of anything.

Review 124:What a place! You feel like placed directly into a Western. The Hotel was fabulous, great located (it is only a small town), and with helpful and super friendly staff. Rocío: wide sandy streets, people ride their horses and take them to the next bar, the lake where you can spot birds. It is a quite place (at least in March) with some magic.
