Reviews for Hotel Monumento Pazo de Orbán
Review 1:This is a family run hotel and it shows in the decor, attention to detail andservice. The rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast is great. And the hotel is right next to the famous Roman walls of Lugo and the old city centre.
Review 2:Access difficult - eventually (on the 3rd circumnavigation of the walls) found the right entrance to the town. Directions given by the hotel were not at all clear. Closer to the red light district than we would have preferred !
Review 3:Close to the centre of this lively little town with a view of the walls.
Review 4:Historic building filled with interesting artifacts in a fantastic location. High tech shower, parking next door, easy and secure. Lovely sharing platter and wine in the hotel taberna and superb breakfast. Best stocked mini bar ever seen
Review 5:Rather expensive despite the central setting.
Review 6:It was an old building with a bit of character inside the wall of Lugo with secure parking and instructions to get there from the owner.
Review 7:The directions were confusing - we parked and walked then got very good directions from the person on duty
Review 8:Central location for visiting the Old Town. Interesting "museum" collection in the bar area
Review 9:We were charged for motorbike parking. Worth the security but I do grudge paying given the relatively small space that a bike takes.
Review 10:The building, contents and location were fantastic. We had an attic room with lots of space and a lovely bathroom. The staff were very friendly and did all they could do to help. Really enjoyed Lugo, especially walking round the roman walls and the tapas bars. Great breakfast, no make that GREAT breakfast.
Review 11:Lovely small hotel located near city walls with adjacent car park.we arrived before midday but we're able to check in and our room was ready.Excellent dinner in their restaurant nearby
Review 12:Breakfast was a little scant. More cakes than savouries.
Review 13:A beautiful residence, filled with tastefully placed antiques, fascinating memorabilia and intriguing artifacts. Attention to detail was impressive.
Review 14:Lugo fell short of our expectations & the hotel surroundings did not match the quality of the hotel.
Review 15:The hotel decor was a bit quirky but we couldn't fault the room for comfort. I had a problem with the safe & the staff were extremely helpful & understanding.
Review 16:Breakfast of cake and cheese did not appeal to us so made alternative arrangements. No other complaints.
Review 17:The staff were very helpful (directions to the hotel excellent) and the hotel was in a good location and very quirky. Bed and rooms comfortable, clean and our superior room very spacious. Secure parking conveniently located next to the hotel.
Review 18:Had difficulty finding how to reach the hotel.
Review 19:Once we found it the location was perfect inside the old walled city. The hotel is like a museum, rooms done to a very high standard. Breakfast had wide variety of cheeses and cakes. Staff wonderful. Private parking on site.
Review 20:The only caveat is that the inhabitants of Lugo seem to like to party all night at weekends and we were serenaded until about 5:00 in the morning. Take earplugs!
Review 21:This hotel is inside the city walls, and therefore complicated to get to, but we made it without any detours because of the excellent instructions the manager sent to us as soon as we made the booking. The room was eccentrically decorated (as was the whole establishment) but comfortable. The breakfast did not include any hot food, but offered the best selection of cheese and cakes we saw anywhere in our travels—quite outstanding!
Review 22:Everything- location ambiance of hotel breakfast( thought I had died and gone to heaven) staff excellent . Whole experience absolutely fabulous . Would recommend
Review 23:Position close to historic centre. Views of the Roman walls. Parking next door, staff very helpful and friendly. Coffee excellent. Hotel is well deserving of its rating in the Michelin Guide.
Review 24:Personal family welcome and attention, most uptodate hotel room technology ever encountered, very clean, more and better room amenities provided than more expensive hotels.
Review 25:very noisy neighbors who tried to play music till 11 pm! very loud and horrible music in the morning hours which wakes u out the staff tried to photocopy my credit card for 'safety reasons' horrible and very expensive parking hard to find some of the staff does not speak english or even polish, not mentioning german or russian
Review 26:old furniture bathroom
Review 27:Nothing to complain about although the Restaurant was closed (off season)
Review 28:The Hotel is in an amazing spot, right behind the Roman wall and within a few yards of some of the best restaurants. Wonderful historic and atmospheric building.
Review 29:the entire hotel was a great one!! the bed was sooo big i lost my partner for 3 days! :-) but seriously a great spot close to centre bats restuarants etc, very friendly and beautifully restored hotel.
Review 30:Nil.
Review 31:Everything. Location just inside the city wall. Easy to find following the excellent instructions sent to us by email. Very quiet and comfortable.
Review 32:We loved our stay here. Everything was memorable, from the eclectic furnishing style to the delicious breakfasts. We had the most comfortable bed ever and our hosts were generous and hospitable. All in all one of best hotels we've stayed in during our trip through Spain.
Review 33:Nice historical building situated close to the roman walls inside the fortress, well renovated and equipped to be a hotel. Very good parking, excelent Wi-Fi and rich breakfast.
Review 34:Excellent hotel. Breakfast did include nic local cheese and frech made orange juice. Situated inside the wall it has a very nice location. The rom was very very good.
Review 35:staff, hotel , breakfast all amazing. the hotel made things happen for us as we had timelines outside their normal routine. Recommended for all including pilgrims like us who needed a break.
Review 36:The city was a month in to a strike of street cleaners and bin men but none of this affected the hotel itself was clean outside.
Review 37:The owner and staff were excellent - there seemed to be nothing they dildn't know about the town and it's facilities. The hotel was extremely comfortable and had great facilities even a secure Carpark next door. The breakfast whilst comprising of those things that make up continental breakfast they just had more variety and better quality of food.
Review 38:It is located near the Roman Wall but the surrounding was awful - there was a brothel (more than one?) almost at the entrance of the hotel and it looked like their transactions were being done even during the day. I guess we visited the city in the wrong time. There was some kind of strike going on - trash everywhere and the streets were filthy. Not the hotel's fault but the location is questionable.
Review 39:The hotel is lovely and so were the staff. The building has been renovated to its former glory and everyone was kind and helpful. Our room was spacious (superior double) with lovely balcony and the bathroom was clean and beautifully done.
Review 40:Great location, friendly and helpful staff - would definitely return.
Review 41:Location perfect, staff friendly and very helpful. Impressive décor and room. Highly recommended.
Review 42:Location can't be beat - right in the heart of historic Lugo! Our room was immaculately clean and perfect for a couple.
Review 43:The room was clean and spacious the woman was friendly and cortious We definitely recommend the hotel To our friends.
Review 44:A bit near the small red light district, which was not really a problem
Review 45:good location, hotel has an ecletic colletion of photos and things
Review 46:Limited 12 Euro breakfast. Bad value.
Review 47:Location and staff
Review 48:Bed too small!
Review 49:nothing

Review 51:Bath needed handles.

Review 66:slightly quirky breakfast, huge range of local cheeses
Review 67:in the middle of the red light district
Review 68:very comfortable bed
Review 69:I requested a non smoking room, and our room had cigarette smell.
Review 70:Location, building.
Review 71:Proximity to Roman wall and ability to walk entire old city; welcoming and attentive staff; comfortable bed and quality furnishings; historical
Review 72:Location and very boutique hotel
Review 73:the hotel was a delightful old house, every amenity was first class. We really enjoyed our stay
Review 74:the deco rof the whole hotel lends a lovely historical feel
Review 75:Great hotel. Lovely big bath, friendly staff.
Review 76:The weather was very hot and the a/c was not working. They could not fix the problem. No restaurant or cafetiria for breakfast.
Review 77:Location , big rooms and bathrooms
Review 78:We had to wait until 8:00 to check out. We would have liked to leave earlier. Also, the AC wouldn't operate unless the key was inserted in the special spot so we couldn't cool the room while we were out.
Review 79:Located within the wall and easy to find, near a gate.
Review 80:Actually there were no flaws, or draw backs in our stay at the hotel. The price, of course, is not the lowest in town but you won't regret to choose this place for your stay in Lugo.
Review 81:Everything is nice, confortable and of good taste in this beautiful historical hotel. The spanish flavoured breakfast is wonderful!
Review 82:Staff were wonderful and the service was fantastic. Everything was spotlessly clean, but the hotel was not spare and institutional-like. Instead, it was beautifully filled with art and artifacts. The bathrooms especially deserve mention. The large tub and rainhead shower were a luxurious treat. I extended my stay by two days because it was so lovely.
Review 83:The hotel is adjacent to one of the entrances through the famous Roman wall into the city. This is also the exit from the city and nearby bars and clubs as party goer's head home. The problem is that they chat for long periods of time under the arch, which amplifies the conversation so that you can, as we did have a very disturbed nights sleep. Almost every half hour from 0330 to 0730!!
Review 84:An historic building tastefully converted into a very comfortable hotel.
Review 85:Directions by gps are misleading. We recommend you call hotel prior toyour arrival for specific steps to reach hotel.
Review 86:Everything!! Perfect location to shop, tapas & wine restaurants andhistorical sites. Free WiFi and private parking (fee). Very friendly andhelpful staff. We were extremely satisfied. If in Lugo again, this isour place to stay!!
Review 87:We were there during a busy festival and it was a little noisy.
Review 88:Beautiful family run hotel. Lovely view of the roman walls from hotel rooms. Secure parking.
Review 89:The hotel is very difficult to find. One must turn left through a gate in the ancient walls that is marked "no turn left" with an exemption in small writing under the sign. There is no residents lounge/garden/terrace. We do not "do" big breakfasts so 10euro each seemed a lot particularly as 2 breakfasts of our size cost 6.60euro in the piazza Our bedroom was very very small
Review 90:The bed linen was beautiful, the shower was great, very 21st century. The hotel is beautifully furnished.
Review 91:It was a bit tricky to drive into the pedestrianised city with very narrow streets, but the hotel sent very detailed directions
Review 92:This is a beautiful, elegant, small hotel, full of fascinating antiques within the ancient city walls of the lovely old city of Lugo. The staff were helpful and friendly and spoke good English. The old city centre is quite small and full of life and there are lots of characterful restaurants
Review 93:We liked everything about our stay. The staff was excellent in everything that they did for us. They were extremely helpful in helping us with sightseeing while we were in Lugo. The room itself was very nice and extremely well appointed.
Review 94:The room was very small - although, to be fair, we could have got a larger one at a higher price.
Review 95:The location is excellent, as it's inside the old city walls and round the corner from the "tapas" area, and the staff is lovely.
Review 96:- The most nearest surroundings of the hotel was not very pleasent or interesting. However, the old town was not far.
Review 97:- Very nice building, fun and luxurious decoration! - Very clean.
Review 98:The brothel round the corner did not improve the area.
Review 99:Lovely room in a well converted old building. Friendly and helpful staff. Lively old city centre nearby.
Review 100:Fabulous warm welcome. the photos do not do the hotel justice. It has impressive decor. It is stylish, clean and comfortable. Amazing room with view of the walls. The hotel fits well into the old city. Friendly helpful staff. Extensive breakfast. Spacious luxurious rooms - a haven of calm and coolness in a hot city. Perfect. Thank you.
Review 101:Red light street behind hotel. We were a group but could have felt intimidated if only a couple. But none of girls came anywhere near the hotel nor approached any of us.
Review 102:Brilliant rooms, reasonable price and quirky bar.
Review 103:full of fantastic bric a brac and in a wonderful old building. Staff were fantastic. Brilliant breakfast. Opened our windows and were looking straight into the World Heritage listed walls.
Review 104:Just petty stuff like the that the wine bar was unattended and the breakfast was pretty sparse. While the parking was convenient getting to the hotel through Lugo was difficult
Review 105:Great location and very nice rooms and staff. The beds were super comfortable. The best bed I have ever slept in. Staff was very helpful and attentive for the most part. Loved that the parking was next to the hotel
Review 106:location and staff were so friendly. they opened a section in the ancient part for us to enjoy a cup of tea. its easy walk to the roman wall and cathedral.
Review 107:The hotel has been decorated with loads of love and taste. Just looking at all the things was worth the visit. The rooms are equipped with very comfortable beds and the bathrooms are modern and stylish. The breakfast buffee is small but everything of excellent quality. We did not miss anything. The location is perfect as you are right in the centre, 2 streets from the main restaurant area. We stayed on a Sunday night and therefore enjoyed a very low price for the quality of the hotel.
Review 108:Parking directions were not clear ; parking is not permitted outside the Hotel and a map should be provided showing the adjacent car park for hotel guests which is outside the Roman wall just opposite the Porto Minho where the hotel is situated .
Review 109:Interesting historic building in the lee of the roman wall ; room and bathroom were spacious and the bed a super kingsize and very comfortable. Staff were very welcoming and helpful . Hotel is well situated to walk the Roman wall and explore the old city centre of Lugo ; plenty of restaurants nearby
Review 110:We were there when the town was having celebrations so it was a bit noisy. But I don't know if it's like that all the time.
Review 111:The location was very great; within the walls of the old city. It was an easy walk from the bus station.
Review 112:But it is also located in the middle of the red-light district. So when you walk to the parking of the hotel, you have to pass at least 15 prostitutes who are sitting outside, staring at you or even making proposals to you. Shame on the government of the town of Lugo who are tolerating this!!
Review 113:Room was comfortable and clean. Beautiful bathroom. Located almost in the center of the town...
Review 114:The breakfast was more 3 star and we didn't like the orange juice, coffee or pastries. The room used for serving it not in keeping with the rest of the hotel.
Review 115:location and lovely room
Review 116:We had a very warm welcome from Eva in reception and given useful adviceon the area. The staff were very helpful and we stayed longer than wehad intended. The hotel is in a truly magical setting in the old town, just like the set of a Shakespearean drama. A unique experience.
