Reviews for Nubian Holiday House Aswan

Review 1:Nothing bad - loved every detail.

Review 2:Lovely guest house - spotlessly clean and comfortable. Great food around shared dining room table, and pleasant evenings drinking coffee on rooftop lounge with owner Habib. Right on the Nile, so lovely views. Not for anyone wanting noisy nightlife, but perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the West Bank. A taste of the genuine Nubian life. Would love to return.

Review 3:No bad experience

Review 4:We loved the location on the West Bank - a great little ferry service to the east bank. Habib and staff lovely at Nubian Holiday House.

Review 5:The owner tried to change the price of reservation, and didn't apologize for it. Also he wanted to take 40% of the cost of airport transfer.

Review 6:The place

Review 7:I have just left Aswan after staying 4 nights in this beautiful house. It's situated in a lovely peaceful picturesque setting yet only a few minutes walk to the ferry to the East bank. You can watch the feluccas on the nile from the rooftop terrace without all the noise of the city. The house itself is beautiful with high domed ceilings in traditional nubian style. With only 4 guestrooms you almost feel as though you have the place to yourself. Dinner was delicious and prepared for me most nights as there are no restaurants nearby but its easy enough to travel across the river if you fancy eating out. The last ferry back to the west bank is at 11pm. The views of the river are fantastic and the Tombs are right next to the hotel. The rooms are spacious and mine even had a jaccuzi bath which was nice after a days walking. Take a boat trip upriver to Gharb Sehel as the scenery is fantastic. Another nice experience was Elephantine island which I visited independently. Take the public ferry from the east bank for just 1 egyptian pound and wander round the Nubian village its lovely :-) I 100% recommend Nubian holiday house for a stay in Aswan. Thanks to Habib and his family for a wonderful time

Review 8:All good!

Review 9:Great roof top terrace, enjoyed chatting with Habib, location on the quiet side of the river right near the ferry to cross, very close to nobles tombs

Review 10:Not bad but relating to the location, it is a long way by road from Aswan central (easy by boat). Short walk of 500 m from the jetty is still quite far if carrying luggage.

Review 11:The authentic experience of living in a real, Nubian home with the family around. Also authentic, delicious, home-cooked meals. Habib was most helpful in organizing tours and transfers for us. Being able to use the guesthouse boat to travel on the Nile to sights and to the opposite side of the river, was convenient, enjoyable and gave us huge flexibility of movement.

Review 12:The hotel is only accessible by boat from Aswan. We felt a little isolated but then again, we enjoyed escaping the hustle and bustle of downtown!

Review 13:The manager, Habibi, was incredibly helpful and accommodating! The Nubian-style house is beautiful and the room was clean and spacious. We enjoyed hanging out on the roof and looking out over the lovely Nile view. Laundry was free (unheard of!) and the wifi worked well. We definitely recommend this hotel!

Review 14:Habib welcomed us in his beautiful family house and he and his family arranged everything we needed. The house is a perfect choice if you're seeking calm, comfort and nature just a five minutes boat ride away from the city. We will come back!

Review 15:no staff there, no reception even. full of with insects, lepers, dogs every where in the house it self. very far in heart of the desert, the owner of the house only there, even when we arrived he asked us to carry our bags, no staff, no receptionist, no one to help except this man. it is really not a safe place.

Review 16:Arrived late. Asked could they rustle up some food. No trouble, 15 min,s great feed. Organised 2 trips next day, camel,s and boat cruise. Then we were quoted 150 EG pounds to go by ferry and car 2 the train station. They arranged 2 lads to pick us up by taxi, then ferry across, and carried all our luggage 2 the station, 500 yards for 50 pounds.

Review 17:i wanted to take one more night in the guest house and were available rooms but he said there wasn't any so i left and there is no TV there is two dogs one of them always trying to sniff you

Review 18:the place was so clean and the break fast was nice

Review 19:I liked the beautiful views of the Nile and the calm atmosphere of the hostel. Our host was really great as well. He woke up early to prepare us a takeaway breakfast for our early morning train ride to Luxor.

Review 20:location, I knew it is in the west bank, each time I have to ferry to another side with 2 pounds and walk 5 minutes, and the location made the price to Abu Simbel a little bit higher, 50 pounds more than the east bank, for the ferry in 3h in the morning. ok, I can consider that the 50 pounds is an added price for the hotel

Review 21:the condition is very good at this price (15 dollars/night for me) the boss is nice in general, the hotel price in west bank is better than east

Review 22:Located in a Traditional Nubian Village, away from the ugliness of city, but connected easily with a cheap ferry. Owner is Nubian. Nice people. Nice garden. Bed really comfortable. Staying at this place and talking to the local people is actually more interesting than looking at some dead temples.

Review 23:Location of west bank not ideal, everyone giving you a look when taking the ferry

Review 24:Everything else but the ferry experience, especially Habeeb was too helpful in arranging me tours.

Recomendo

Review 26:The family that runs this place are wonderful people who go the extra mile to make sure your stay is great. They are friendly and helpful and they offer a full range of activities. The food is excellent local cuisine, and breakfast was so good we opted to get dinner as well. The location is wonderful as it is on the opposite side of the Nile from Aswan with easy and inexpensive access to the city by ferry. If you are looking for a great place to stay for your time in Aswan, look no further.

Review 27:The hotel is situated on the west Nile Bank in Nubian village, close to the tombs. The rooftop offers a cool breeze in hot summer and a view on Aswan on the opposite bank.

Review 28:Forget the Nubian hospitality if you stay at this guest house. The owner was just too busy to discuss witht guests. No explanation was provided upon arrival, not even on the time for breakfast. Prices are the same as an hotel and no help/support is given to find alternatives to touristic itineraries. Breakfast was poor. The rooms have never been cleaned, during the 4 days we stayed. The closet was full with the owner's winter cloth and, therefore, impossible to use.

Review 29:The house is beautifully built. The terrace has an amazing view. The village is quiet and people are lovely.

Review 30:Roof terrace and the Nile view, helpful and friendly staff, big rooms and bathrooms, good food and interesting decorations. Very relaxing place, you will not want to leave terrace.

Review 31:River crossing back and forth to the east is fast and easy, however, we have been charged "tourist price"every time. So be aware of that! Breakfast could be a bit better.

Review 32:They arranged a boat crossing for us at 3am and packed us breakfast for the road. Nothing is too much trouble for them! You can have tea or coffee on the roof terrace too. Internet is good and stable.

Review 33:Location. Structure of the building. Terrace. Staff. Breakfasts and dinners. It was a perfect stayng from any point of view. Only five minutes by boat (cheap and frequent) from the down town. So you can enjoy a really nubian village, centuries far away from traffic and noise.

Review 34:Nothing at all!

Review 35:The achitecture of the house; the big terrace where you can have breakfast with great view on the Nile, just OPPOSITE the 'busy side' of the city: all around just nature and the Nubian village. Room and Bathroom were big and very clean, the bed really relaxing. Staff very kind and helpful and the food authentic and tasteful.

Review 36:Nothing.

Review 37:Charming, friendly and helpful staff. Relaxing on the terrace and chatting with the owner, Habibe, and his friends. Eating in when we were too tired/lazy to go out in the evening. Using the ferry. Convenient local shops. Large, comfortable room. Excellent, free wifi. Pancakes for breakfast.

Review 38:The owner has dogs that come near you when you go through the gate but they don’t go inside. They do bark at night, but quiet down. Basically if you don’t mind barking at night, it’s a nice place. If you do laundry (for free) and hang your clothes outside, they will likely smell of smoke as the people there burn their garbage. The smell is very pervasive, try drying indoors if possible.

Review 39:Big bathroom, big bed (a bit hard), clean. Had private bathroom but used common one as well which was clean. Didn't have breakfast so can’t comment on that, but dinner was very good, (9 American dollars per person). Can eat on the rooftop, nice view. A lot quieter on this side of the Nile. Some tiny stores on the street to the house where you can buy some eggs or something. Nice seeing some small sand “mountains”/dunes on the way there, right after the ferry. Maybe around 7 min walk from the ferry, which is cheaper (2-3 egp) if you tell them you are staying at the Nubian Holiday House. Staff is very helpful. Can organize tour to Abu Simbel if you want (we didn't go but it was possible). We were able to use the fridge in the kitchen and at some point boil some eggs. Definitely would consider if ever in Aswan again.

Review 40:Although this isn't specifically a negative, not being dog-lovers, we weren't too fond of them - although they are extremely friendly. Other than that I cannot think of any other negative things to say!

Review 41:The rooftop is fantastic overlooking the Nile - wonderful in the evenings after a long day, just to sit back and look at the stars.... The rooms were nice and spacious and bathroom was wonderfully clean and functional The breakfast was pleasant and always ready on time. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to have dinner as we spent the evenings out and about, though I hear that it's rich and wholesome. The hosts, Habeebi and his family were very welcoming and always ready to help with ideas about activities The villa is also on the west bank away from the hustle and bustle of the east which was perfect for us since, coming from Cairo, we were looking to get away from the more chaotic life and sought tranquillity....

Review 42:One small headsup for location: If you are pressed for time and if you plan a visit to Abu Simbel you'd have to arrange a taxi in the morning from west to east bank, which will cost you an extra 100-200 LE. Habeeb arranged it for us though :) All the other time frequent ferry is available for few coins :)

Review 43:The house is big, clean and has unique architecture. Room itself was very clean and comfy. The A/C was a bonus coz it was very cold when we visited luxor :) Habeeb and his uncle Sadik are very good hosts. They made us feel at home instantly. Habeeb arranged tours for Abu Simbel and other places. He even got up at 2 AM to prepare breakfast bag for us :)

Review 44:The bathroom was nice and big (and clean) but the tub leaked when taking a shower, and not just from splashing water but from underneath from the drain. There was a squeegee to use, but the floor was soaking wet.

Review 45:For us the location was perfect. Just a very short ferry ride across the river from central Aswan, and so much quieter and less hassle. Habibi helped us arrange day trips to Philae and Abu Simbel, and any additional things around town that we needed. Habibi seems to be one of few Egyptians that sees tourism as a long term investment and wants to make visitors feel truly welcome rather than just viewing tourists as walking wallets. We had the garden view room, very nice.

Review 46:The house is traditional Nubian style but new, clean and nicely furnished. The roof terrace and garden have views across the fields and river from the quiet, rural west bank of Aswan. The family who runs it are very sweet and helpful but will leave you to potter about on you own if you prefer. Habib will organize trips for you and his sisters make a huge breakfast in the morning and home-cooked dinners if you don't feel like going across the river to the city.

Review 47:the nubian holiday house has a super relaxed atmosphere and is definitively great value for money. The owner and his family did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible and were truly helpful with arranging transport, excursions etc. The location on the Left Bank opposite of the city was perfect for us, because we were looking for a peaceful environment a bit away from the bustling city. There is a ferry connection to the city anyways which brings you for 1LE and in 10 minutes to the other side anyways. Can highly recommend this place!

Review 48:Location in the quietest place of Aswan. The house itself made on the nubian traditional arquitecture style, furniture and decoration. The rooftop terrace. The owner and his family. The tasteful meals. A really amazing place to spend 3-7 days on relax escaping for the most frenethic Egypt where you will find youself like at your home.

Review 49:Bed was a little hard.

Review 50:Convienent access, from the train station just walk down to the Nil, turn left and take the ferry accross 1Le per person. on the West bank follow the road on your right until you see Nubian Holiday house on your right, pink domed house.

Review 51:The hotel is on the west bank. It's quiet but you need to take the ferry to Aswan city.

Review 52:It's a Nubia style house. The boss is enthusiastic. There are many dogs in the hotel. If you like dogs, it's a great choice.

Review 53:Road to hotel not completely tarmacked, but hotel only 100m from ferry

Review 54:The house was very pretty and well-decorated, bathroom spacious with good shower, terrace, though needed cleaning, was shaded and had lovely view of the Nile through trees, pancakes, felafel, omlette and beans for breakfast, beds very comfortable, good wi-fi, owner and his sister very helpful and pleasant. Ferry convenient and cheap. Close to Noble Tombs. Much quieter than East Bank! Road well-lit.

Review 55:The fact that I had to leave so soon.

Review 56:It is unfair to limit what I liked about my stay at Nubian Holiday House to 200 characters... It was an one of the best parts of my time in Egypt. Sadek and Habibi are beyond generous with their time and hospitality. Say hit to Jack and Harley for me, I hope to return again soon!

Review 57:This place is a nice relaxing place to stay if you want to be away from the tourists and hassle of the east bank. You can easily cross to the east bank if you decide you want to. The house is in a local Nubian Village right on the nile. Friendly and very safe.

Review 58:Nothing at all. Luxor is a must see place. Tourist should go back again. There is no risk for us.

Review 59:I really enjoyed my time there. The staff is really helpful. They made my stay more comfortable. They even gave me dates. My room had a wonderful view. I was the only guest during my stay so I cannot complain about the noise.

Review 60:Nothing!

Review 61:The place is really nice, I enjoyed very much the surroundings. The room was very comfortable, clean and tidy, with nice views to the Nile. The host is a very nice and kind person, very keen to help in any matter. He helped me in sorting excursions around Aswan. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask him for help.

Review 62:The location was a slight problem being on the West Bank, other issues like certain anmenties we're not missed during my stay.

Review 63:The warm disposition of the proprietors was heartening. They were always willing to help and provide for me.

Review 64:We loved to be on the west side of the Nile by the Nubian villages away from the agitation & stress of the city. After crossing the Nile, coming through the tropical gardens walking by the Nile is a fantastic introduction. Plus Habibi is a great man : welcoming, always ready to help, making sure you are enjoying your time. We really enjoyed his hospitality and traditional Nubian dinners he proposed us. We spent magic moments and discovered different and unexpected aspects of Egypt thanks to him.

Review 65:Do not touch the dogs in the garden - for us it resulted in the most epic traveller's diarrhea we've ever encountered.

Review 66:The bed in one of the rooms was too short

Review 67:The view, the Lobby and the authentic atmosphere

Review 68:Quiet, local authentic get away With fabulous home cooking

Review 69:Great place to stay with easy access to east Aswan, and wise friendly peopl, Habib and family

Review 70:perfect place...special thx to mr.sadeq and habibi...

Review 72:the staff, the welcome, the decor - everything!

Review 73:Great location on the quiet bank opposite the town. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Wonderful cooking.

Review 74:The hosts were all lovely and helped us arrange all of our travel

Review 75:Breakfast could be better with the same cost. same breakfast menu everyday

Review 76:you feel like you are at home. Great view, quick and safe area.

Review 77:Amazingly well run guesthouse by an incredible family :)

Review 78:Feel the real life of the friendly and nice people of Aswan!

Review 79:Mosquitos, wifi was very week

Review 80:Clean, helpful Habib and his family, very quiet and peaceful place, i liked their dogs Karla and Jack :)

Review 81:Do not print invoice

Review 82:River view

Review 83:Mosque next door and 30 minutes of prater calling at 4.30am everyday

Review 84:location

Review 85:Habibi was an excellent English-speaking host and very experienced in addressing the needs of world travelers. The traditional meals prepared by his family were excellent and great value for money. We met members of his family and friends who provided a unique insight into the culture in this southern part of Egypt, Aswan. He also has a boat service that ferries tourists around the Nile, this was well worth the experience and highly recommended! We loved the relaxed atmosphere in his traditional Nubian house with was tastefully decorated. The view of the Nile from our room was scenic and the surrounding rural farms picturesque. Will like to visit his place again when in Aswan and will certainly recommend it to friends and family visiting Egypt.

Review 86:Lovely family guesthouse on the quiet west side on the green banks of the Nile. Conveniently close to the ferry. Nice rooms and homely atmosphere, with beautiful common room and good cooking. Very friendly owner who helps out in organizing trips and transport.

Review 87:All what you need , home atmosphere and well organized great visits to beautiful nature of Aswan and wonderful history of ancient Egypt , we will come again

Review 88:Some of the other reviewers were not accurate in saying there was no WiFi access.

Review 89:We have stayed in hotels on the East Bank for years and decided to try staying on the West Bank this year, to get away from the city and to have a quieter experience. The Nubian Holiday House was our choice because they have a view of the river, and also many additional services, including transfer from the airport or train station. This "hotel" is more like a 4 star accommodation in a private home than a commercial hotel. There are 4 guest rooms, and many other large spaces for time spent in the sun or indoors. The building is furnished cleanly with high quality furnishings, including european style bedding (soft pillows!) and other amenities. The staff are there to meet your every need, including providing access to tours of the sights in the region, boat rides, and felluca trips following your stay or day trips. The food is excellent and they will meet any needs you have, if you just ask. We spent our mornings in the living area catching up on emails and news from home on their courtesy WiFi. They have a rooftop view, and a house level garden. The Holiday House is beautifully situated surrounded by farm land, on the side of the Nile. Coming to Egypt is a delight, and meeting the Egyptian people is always our favorite part of our trips. I recommend that you walk through the village to the Nobles Tombs, or request a camel ride through the desert. Also, don't miss asking for a boat ride to the First Cataract area - the most beautiful part of the river in Aswan. Be sure to spend some time getting to know Habibi and Gigi - the brother and sister that help to run this house. They are very special people, and Habibi can help with anything you need. Consider trying a multiple day felluca trip - it is a slice of heaven! This is the first year we have stayed at the Nubian Holiday House and we will make it our destination for future trips.

Review 90:Wonderful host. Beautiful house and meals. Lovely and welcoming family experience. It is necessary but easy to make arrangements with them to get across the river after the normal ferry hours.

Review 91:Bathroom : It would be great if the bathroom have shower curtains so the water wont drip off out of the tub. I hate wet bathroom floors. The Bidet is dripping too and the water is getting out of the bathroom door towards the room. Dinning Area: not properly lighted. Too dark when you are having your meal. Internet connection: you can only connect when you are at the living room.

Review 92:The staff Habib and Iman are very very hands on with their guest. They are very accommodating and very warm.

Review 93:The walk to the ferry is not far. There are nearby stands for snacks and water. They were accommodating about reasonable choices for meals typical to the area. Portions were good. Things in the room worked well. Helpful with laundry. The building is a good size and there is a nice common area and patio overlooking the river. Of the places I staid during my visit, this was the most simple to deal with.

Review 94:I stayed in Aswan for 3 days and I am not regretting my choice to stay at Nubian Holiday House. It's a family run business and they genuinely cared for your best interest - they are not doing this just for money. Their hospitality was amazing. The location is quite convenient, just a ferry away from downtown. If we visit Aswan again, we will definitely stay at Nubian Holiday House again.

Review 95:Everything is amazing, very beautiful and artistic place to stay at. Habib and Gigi are almost a family now, they are not just hosts. Food is amazing better than dining outdoors, the nights are quiet and peaceful, and mornings are fresh and inspiring. I highly recommend.

Review 96:Is the most nice place i found in aswan, i went to aswan a lot time as i m italian and i' m living here, in this guest house you feel the nubian hospitality and the people are so kind and care about your staying. The food is great and they prepare What you Like... Habibi the responsible is a great person and organize for us escursions not turistic but Very natural as were looking for after all these years in egypt. The guest house is Very clean so don t worry if the toilet is in common they keep always cleaning and the taste of the place is amazing. We Will go back for sure when we have holiday is a great place to find Yourself and relax. Thanks mr Habibi from the 2 italians friends.

Review 97:The family members running the house are super nice and make you feelinstantly welcome and comfortable. They upgraded my room without measking and invited me to Iftar dinners with their family. An exceptionalplace and will for sure be one of the most memorable places during yourtrip in Egypt. Highly recommended!

Review 98:The place is amazing, very comfy and a family run business. The design of the house is unique, the family is great and always around but you still have your privacy. Loved it and sure i will visit it again & recommend it to any one that going to spend time in Aswan.

Review 99:If you're after some tranquility mixed with some local ancient history then the Nubian house with it excellent hospitality and location is the place to stay. The bedrooms are huge and offers a spacious communal area where you can relax and watch tv or read. Located within 5 minutes walk is the ferry service taking you to the east bank where you can enjoy the Souqs for some shopping and good local foods in Aswan. Sadek the owner will ensure your stay is pleasant and i hope you can eat alot cause the food is yummy and comes in huge quantities. I would recommend this accommodation to friends and family and would surely stay there again! Shukran Nubian house!!!

Review 100:Great location, great atmosphere, just the best thing you can do for yourself after few days in Luxor. The family running it is very helpful and will try always their best to make your stay worthwhile. The location is just at the end of the Nubian village, just before the ferry and entrance to the tomb of the nobles.

Review 101:There is honestly nothing I dislike about the place.

Review 102:The house was the best ever. It has the nile and farms amazing view. It was so clean. The house owners were so helpful and caring, they could do you whatever u ask them to do and they always call within the day to make sure that you are safe out in the city. The rooms are very well furnished with all the facilities that you need. Staying there is so relaxing, will definitely go there to this amazing house over and over again.

Review 103:Low lighting in room did not allow us to read or write anything.

Review 104:On West Bank away from touristy places. Stunning views of Nile and Tombs of the Nobles from roof terrace. Peaceful garden terrace overlooking Nile and fields. Good, plentiful and delicious home cooking. Beautifully decorated family house.

Review 105:Habibi took very good care of us, he was waiting and took us with hisboat to his village where the house is. The house is very nice located, not in the centre but close in a very authentic village with a niceathmosphere. He also helped us as a guide and showed us around really agood place to stay!

Review 106:Beautiful surroundings. Friendly and helpful host. Wonderful Food.

Review 107:nice experience

Review 108:Hospitality and very nice attitude of the staff
