Reviews for Casa de Hilario

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:Fantastic location, great staff, clean hotel. Just outside the National Park, fantastic walking location. Great food available both within Yaiza and further afield at good prices.

Review 3:Only that Yaiza was dead as a dodo on New Years Eve. We did not want the huge, expensive meal offered at the sister hotel but that was our choice and we ate in the village. It all happens at the big resorts by the sea but who wants to drive on NYE?

Review 4:This was our second New Year on Lanzarote. Last time was a big hotel so this time we chose this tiny one with only 7 rooms. We treated ourselves and selected the top floor suite with balcony. It was fantastic. The owner was really helpful when we got in 9 hours late due to a flight diversion. Each day Monica constructed a beautiful breakfast which we ate on the terrace in the wonderful sun. She also worked very hard cleaning the place and keeping everyone happy. Easy to walk to the village or out into the amazing landscape. Restaurants in the village and also one next door. A small very warm pool was also a nice surprise. A fantastic New Year break!

Review 5:No bad experience I just found that particular time of the year was exceptionally quiet and I felt it was a shame that I was the only one in the restaurant the night I ate there..

Review 6:Staff , Violet and Marcelo were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The Hotel itself was unique and a pleasure to stay in it. Bodega restaurant dinner menu and food was excellent Compliments to the Chef. Situation on the island excellent for exploring. My room had a beautiful terrace looking towards the mountains. Breakfast was a delight.

Review 7:Not much in the way of service except the good breakfasts. No staff on site if you needed assistance with anything and when we did see the owner he wasn't particularly welcoming. The village is a bit of a ghost town on an evening with several restaurants not open at all on some days, so would have been useful to have access to more facilities in communal areas outside of breakfast times.

Review 8:The property is gorgeous and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Good location for exploring the island, but we'd have struggled without a car. Good for independent travellers.

Review 9:- Pool is tiny, and we did not use. - Take care that the Casa de Hilario is a bit hidden away and quite remote, so you need a car for getting around. - If the restaurant next door is closed (like it was during our stay), we drove to Playa Blanca and Puerto de Carmen (both are +/- 15-20 minutes by car).

Review 10:- Casa de Hilario is a nice starting point for discovering the south part of Lanzarote. - You can have breakfast on the terrace, and the view is great.

Review 11:The breakfast could have been improved, i.e hams, salami etc was off on some days and it gave me an upset tummy. Solution: put them out in small batches as they are needed. Cover the breakfast to protect them from flies

Review 12:Location was excellent It was the way it looked in pictures

Review 13:Difficult to find (no sign at the street level), gate closed (not easy to find how to come in), comfort level varying from one room to the other (we had a good one).

Review 14:Good location, nice small swimming pool

Review 15:Owner only send an e-mail the day before arrival at hotel that he needed to know check in time, after calling me anonimous which I never take, and since I have no internet abroad I missed the mail, and had to call the owner because the door was closed at 21 o clock. He had left our keys in a safe which we could open with his information, but he was kind of grumpy on the phone telling us he had been waiting all day, while check in time was listed till 24 at booking.com

Review 16:Nice swimming pool, good beds, nice private terrace

Review 17:I Booked the suite, but it was not available for the first night. The bed in our suit seemed self-made and unfortunately quite instable and not really kingsize. Breakfast consists of basically cold platter and fruits, but good quality. Coffee only in pre-cooked can was painful.

Review 18:Calm and nicely arranged, good place for people who look for a peaceful oase. Only with rented car sensful.

Review 19:Reception should be organized better (we experienced poor communication and a long waiting time upon arrival)

Review 20:Breakfast on the terrace with a great view

Review 21:Having to leave.

Review 22:Great room, views, breakfasts and staff. The property has been beautifully renovated by the owners Jose and his family and decorated with high quality original artwork.

Review 23:Almost didn't meet the staff, nobody there to meet you at arrival, less than average breakfast, no bar, no way to get a tea or a coffee

Review 24:The ambiance, the set up, the location

Review 25:You do need to ring to confirm when you are arriving and we had to work out some stuff for ourselves. An information sheet about where stuff is in the house would be very useful.

Review 26:Peaceful location (but you either need a hire car to explore further), beautiful decor, clean and comfortable and useful wifi. Helped us out of a tight spot when we got stuck on the island due to poor weather.

Review 27:No formal reception staff. Omnipresent (although not too loud) traffic noise from surrounding roads. Incomprehensible TV (3 remotes, no instructions!). No air con. in room, no fridge in room (although communal fridge in dining area). Tiny pool. A little expensive for a B&B.

Review 28:Generally clean, attractive and well kept. Satisfying, alfresco continental breakfast. Not too close to big resorts! Good restaurants close-by. Manager (Jose) called in most days and chatted to guests.

Review 29:A lovely, friendly, individual hotel/B&B, artistic yet homely. Perfect for what we wanted-comfortable no fuss.

Review 30:Room was infested with mosquito's. (no insect screens) Room was way too hot. (No fan)

Review 31:Location + beauty of guesthouse +++ Breakfast +++

Review 32:the neighbor restaurant serves great food but when they have a party outdoor it can be noisy

Review 33:nice location

Review 34:You will need a car to explore if you stay here.

Review 35:Rooms and breakfast were lovely.

Review 36:Had a lovely stay here. Great location for cycling. Wish we had stayed longer.

Review 37:Friendly helpful people. Owner gave us lots of really useful information. Laid back attitude, great location.

Review 38:Nice common area and pool area, across the street from one of the recommended bottegas in the area.

Review 39:good location for a walking holiday

Review 40:Room, views, food, location, staff

Review 41:A great location with nice views. Peacefully quiet with just a few guests with whom we enjoyed each others company at breakfast on the terace.

Review 42:There is a lounge/chill-out area, but no bar service.

Review 43:Breakfast with a view on the terrace! The design and the relaxed atmosphere.

Review 44:The breakfast room was not in Casa Hilario because of some works. Breakfast was good but some glasses were not clean.

Review 45:Atmosphere and decoration Bed very comfortable Views from our room Overall I would recommend Casa Hilario

Review 46:We had a bad experience, we found the shower full of ants and when I tryed to kill them I discovered there was an anthill in the bathroom. It was very difficult to reach the owner and have the problem resolved. The owner was never in the casa de hilario and his mobile was off. It was possible to change the room only the day after. The owner was not at all polite and he was quite aggressive. There is no reception and the breakfast has a poor quality.

Review 47:Casa de Hilario is a nice building in Yaiza, in the countryside, where the wheather was always cloudy compared to the coast.

Review 48:The lamps in the room were pretty bad, at least the bathroom lamp and the bedside lamps ought to be a bit stronger (it was a struggle to read a book in bed). Impossible to get the TV working and noone to ask as there was no staff around in the evenings. We both came back home with lots of bed bugs bites!!! Maybe removing the awful plastic protection from the mattress would help... :-(

Review 49:The casa itself is very nice and well situated for getting around the island. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave us a lot of useful advise. Breakfast was good and generous. Free wifi.

Review 50:Casa de Hilario has no restaurant. The restaurant in Casona del Yaiza (same owner) was really very disapointing. But next door to the Casa is the excellent Bodega de Santiago with delicious food.

Review 51:Nice and quiet hotel

Review 52:The pool was not clean. the main street near the house is pretty loud. Two rooms are outside of the house and big, but you are not in the house area - the other rooms are better located, but small and have no private terrasse or balcony. Too expensive for what you get.

Review 53:Yaiza is a very nice village. The house is nice.

Review 54:Decor in room getting a bit tired and needs refreshing. Wifi only in certain parts of public areas. Reception by staff in training was a bit abrupt and could be improved by a more open welcome . During he day there is no staff on site so not easy to get info although the owner José Washington most helpful on the one occasion he came by to chat with guests. Adjacent restaurant (not part of the hotel) was closed for two weeks so our dining options in the evening were a bit limited and we had to travel further afield.

Review 55:Small semi rural hotel in very pretty Canarian village. Decorated with flair. A sister hotel of the Casona de Yaiza where we took some of our meals in the evening. Pool was heated through solar power and was in a semi sheltered courtyard. Quiet and intimate setting. We had a very good breakfast each morning and the excellent rate from Booking.com meant we had very good value for money. The hotel is well situated for the national Park where we had registered on line for the guided walking tour.

Review 56:Wifi only available in main building, though not a real problem for us.

Review 57:Very friendly host welcomed us and gave us lots of useful tips for enjoying the island. Great location for exploring, with several excellent restaurants close by. Hotel small with amazing views, plentiful breakfasts and lovely gardens. Will definately recommend it!

Review 58:Beautiful house with cosy atmosphere in a fantastic location. Good starting point to explore whole island. Guest from all over Europe, mostly couples. Friendly and helpful owner, well organised.

Review 59:It's quite a walk to the village, which is mostly a good thing, but it would have been nice to have access to a fridge to store cold drinks for the daytime

Review 60:Quiet edge of village location, attractive rooms & communal areas, friendly staff, late & laid-back breakfast - welcome to sit & graze for ages, my daughter liked the free wifi

Review 61:High premium we paid by booking through bookng.com rather than directly.Absence of bar / coffee making facilities.

Review 62:Peaceful and convenient location for doing walks in the island

Review 63:Charming little hotel. Quite. Very nice decoration. Away from tourism exploitation areas.
