Reviews for Hotel Convento Del Giraldo

Review 1:Heating in rooms has been disabled and is controlled by the hotel. This led to two very hot and uncomfortable nights. Suggest you only eat the cold breakfast buffet as the hot food was luke warm and poorly presented.

Review 2:Nice public rooms and friendly staff. Great location although lack of parking a problem.

Review 3:This is a revamped monastery so you can't complain too much about facilities. Wall were very thin and could hear next door neighbours flushing toilets, showering and so forth. We visited in December - indoor heating was extremely hot and couldn't be adjusted, we had to open windows in middle of night to breath. But you simply cannot beat the views and location. I would still stay there again.

Review 4:Location was perfect looking down the gorge and cuenca is a beautiful magical place. Car park nearby with acceptable fees. Rooms big and clean.Small balcony was very quaint. Efficient and polite staff.

Review 5:This is not a 4 star hotel as it claims to be. I booked it because I thought it was and not because it was a low price.I changed room 3 times and still the noise from the plumbing was terrible and I had a really bad nights sleep.the rooms were grubby and the final room I was given was up a steep flight of stairs. I was given no help with my luggage. The receptionist did not even say hello just asked for my passport. How can a hotel claim to be 4 star when it us n even 2 star.

Review 6:The location was great and the views from terrace really good the breakfast was good.

Review 7:Not a bad experience, but the tv had no English speaking channels at all. Breakfast was just ok.

Review 8:Room. We asked for a room with a view, and Bookings came up trumps, as we had a lovely room with two aspects.

Review 9:Such a brilliant location, the hotel is stunning, it's been our 2nd visit, and we have plans to return in the future. Highly recommend the hotel and the location.

Review 10:Staff surly, room lighting not adequate and very hot, tiles on the bathroom floor were sticky. Restaurant opened at 9.30pm, waiter unhelpful.

Review 11:Location,

Review 12:We was in room 306 and all you could here was the toilet flushing and people walking about we had very little sleep.

Review 13:The Hotel was in a good position, for bars and Restaurants

Review 14:Front desk, not very friendly staff. Bkoken cvhair in my room, I inform them and they changed it. Nobody was taking care during the breakfast time, no bread available, have to request it.... It shouldnt happen.

Review 15:Although not a bad experience I did find it more difficult than expected to get to the hotel from the (public) car park in a wheelchair as the street the hotel is in is cobbled and quite steep. Also, although the staff were quite friendly no-one offered any help with our luggage, but luckily some very kind, helpful young American ladies came to our assistance when we arrived but we were left to manage on departure. The buffet breakfast on the second morning was disappointing and not worth the money.

Review 16:I am disabled and found the provided facilities good for me. The beds were very comfortable.

Review 17:Although the staff were efficient, there was no warmth in their welcome or service. The breakfast was very poor. Scrambled egg cold, no choice.

Review 18:The location, room and bed although it was noisy and we could not get the air conditioning to work.

Review 19:What is not to like about this hotel. Great location in the historic centre. An interesting mixture of a 300 year old converted convent with tasteful modern additions. Good size room. Very good evening meal, we tried the 60 Euro menu for two, good Spanish dishes and plenty of wine. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff. Receptionist did a first class job in talking us through to the hotel when our satnav failed. No onsite parking, but parking very close at hand at 15 Euros for 24 hours. We strongly recommend this hotel, it has a lot to offer and represents good value

Review 20:There's more to a 4 star hotel than décor. That extra service was missing: help with the bags, help with parking, noticing that you're buggered and it's your first time in a new city, etc. It all seemed a bit mechanical. Stay here, the location and view if you can get it are lovely, but the hotel could put a bit extra effort and put the icing on the cake.

Review 21:Our view from the second night onwards had an absolutely stunning view. Asked for a room with view. It has an excellent location and the price was good.

Review 22:WiFi connection did not work in our room. Much time spent getting passwords, but to no avail. Had to get to the ground floor near reception to get on line.

Review 23:Really comfortable bed! Well appointed bathroom. Fabulous views from the windows in the heart of the old town of Cuenca, with easy access to the casas colgadas.

Review 24:Parking- 100 metres up a hill but reasonably accessible. I had to carry motorcycle luggage without wheels. I suppose it was my penance for a high value stay.

Review 25:Excellent location and facilities

Review 26:The wifi at the hotel was unnecessarily difficult to get into, and then kept dropping out. We eventually gave up.

Review 27:This is a wonderful old building in the old town area of Cuenca, which is a great place to walk around with a good choice of bars and restaurants. Our room was very spacious and full of character. The buffet breakfast was very good. There is a car park just 100 metres or so from the hotel, ask at reception and you will receive a voucher giving a couple of euros off the price.

Review 28:No bad experience but restaurant not vegetarian friendly which was disappointing. However other places close by very accommodating

Review 29:Great location ,fantastic views. Lovely building

Review 30:LA WIFI NO DESCARGABA NINGUN DATO TERMINAMOS USANDO NUESTRA 4G PQ RESULTÓ IMPOSIBLE TRABAJAR CON LA WIFI. EL PARKING ERA CARISIMO PARA NO ESTAR EN EL HOTEL. TENGO MIS RESERVAS DE SI LAS FUNDAS DE LAS ALMOHADAS LAS HABIAN CAMBIADO...PERO ANTES DE ACUSAR ... EL PRECIO DEL DESAYUNO ES PARA TURISTAS...NO PARA UN ESPAÑOL DE TRABAJO.

Review 31:LA UBICACIÓN

Review 32:Aircon is poor and WiFi as reported by others is not good in the rooms.Pillows were hard ask reception to change them as soon as you check in.

Review 33:We had a view to the parador across the valley which was lovely. Staff were helpful and luggage loading etc was fine even though a narrow Street.Breakfast at €6 was fine and available before local cafés.

Review 34:If you want a coffee out of normal serving hours, tough luck. We wanted one after returning from dinner at about 23:30. No making facilities in the room and no hotel services were available. Wifi was off until the following morning.

Review 35:Ideally situated up a narrow cobbled street in the old town. Very well presented with pleasant staff. Perfectly clean and contemporary four poster room. Generous and varied breakfast options. Secure parking available nearby.

Review 36:Our only concern was the WiFi, which had an eccentric login process, which rarely worked.

Review 37:The staff were very accommodating and found us an excellent room which was both quiet and had magnificent views. Always ask for Room 409! Location in the heart of the old town was perfect with close access to history, walks, buses and cafes. Just fantastic. We will be back!!

Review 38:Weren't sure how aircon worked (ok for time of year but it was getting warm) and wifi is annoying as requires a login every time leave the device

Review 39:Large room, amazing view - we had a room on the back - and good front of house staff

Review 40:I did not have any bad expirences

Review 41:The staff was great. The view from my room was just terrific! Price was very moderate considering the quality offered

Review 42:Could hear people in bathroom next door. Bed was hard. Wifi was terrible for my i devices. Hallways need some TLC

Review 43:The location was excellent. Good beeakfast. Parking 100 metres away - 15E day

Review 44:Up a steep hill, so difficult for the elderly / unfit. Overnight parking is available, however it's extra and a small distance away.

Review 45:Lovely little hotel,in a great location, but a bit awkward to get to. Nice clean room.

Review 46:We were surprised that the restaurant did not offer an à la carte menu, only a limited fixed menu, with no printed menu available. Having said that, the food served was very good.

Review 47:The location in the centre of the historic medieval quarter of Cuenca is superb. Friendly and obliging staff.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:I asked for a room with view. I was given a beautiful, large, well decorated room. Floor in "cotto" . A first window faced over "antiguo Colejo de San José",, the second one over a great landscape. Room 303, I believe. Only 50 meters from Plaza Mayor (and bus stop). Friendly staff.

Review 50:Awful for parking Definitely need GPS to find it Very touristy location

Review 51:Nice hotel, clean and classic More of a 3 star than a 4 Friendly staff Quaint historic town, lots of restaurants in the area Good breakfast buffet

Review 52:shabby furniture, worn out facilities, absence of bathrobe and slippers (in the four stars hotel) dirty walls, inconvinient joining to the internet

Review 53:Great location, spacious room, beautiful view from the room, good breakfast, helpful staff

Review 54:Breakfast buffet a little expensive, around 10 euros per person.

Review 55:Nice overall decoration of the hotel. Excellent location near cathedral. The bed was hard which i particularly liked because of my back problems.

Review 56:It is not a 4 star hotel, so my evaluation is for a 3 star hotel, otherwise I would have downgraded more. To be noted though, that it has a magnificent wooden staircase which, unfortunately, because not used, is not highlighted as it should. The room was really basic, with no fridge, no compliments (I mean a free bottle of water at least). The toiletries were kept at minimum. Only a shower gel and a soap were provided. No slippers, no bathrobe. The towels were worn out and of a greyish color. Two out of the tree wall lamps had no bulb, so I had to ask at the reception new bulbs to be installed. The breakfast was rather ok, but it was served only from 8:30, the time we had to leave. Therefore, in the first day, we only grab a coffee and a croissant, after asking the waiter to speed up a little. Unfortunately, this hotel lacks charm, the whole interior is very austere. It would be nice to add some paintings or more colorful pieces of furniture or decorations.

Review 57:Excellent location in the old upper town, close to the cathedral in an historical building of a former monastery. The room was large, and the bed comfortable. The wi-fi worked properly in my room, but it was not the case with my colleague who had bad connection.

Review 58:Our 3rd floor room was too hot, but we weren't sure how to remedy that other than opening our window all night.

Review 59:Beautiful hotel and room. Friendly staff.

Review 60:poor room, no air conditioning only a heater. Even in November it was so hot that we had to open the bedroom window, which could only be accessed using a step ladder (provided by the hotel) and as a result we had poor nights sleep due to the noise from the town (in fairness it was Fri and Sat night). Breakfast was poor, the supposed hot food was tepid, so was the "hot" water for tea. Parking was awkward and expensive

Review 61:The only thing good about this hotel is its location in the centre of the old town

Review 62:It takes nerve and speed to park your car on the narrow street, in front of the convent door, and unload your luggage, while cars and buses(!) brush past constantly. You must then drive up the road to an expensive parking garage, or farther up the road to where there's limited (and perhaps risky?) free parking.

Review 63:The location is ideal for experiencing the old town. We enjoyed our afternoon and evening here much more than we did our two days in highly-overrated Toledo. Suggestion: If you're a walker, allow time to stride the trails that wrap around the bluff that Cuenca crowns. Doing so will grant you a constantly changing perspective of this remarkably-situated, living museum.

Review 64:WIFI was very slow and required a separate login per device. Kept throwing security errors.

Review 65:Location was great and restaurant was terrific. Staff at restaurant was very helpful with advice on gluten free eating options

Review 66:We liked the location which could not be better. Our room had a wonderful view. The breakfast was very good. When we come back to the beautiful city of Cuenca we will definitely choose the same hotel

Review 67:I found nothing to dislike but our stay was for one night only maybe the small sitting area could be made more welcoming, but this is a small criticism.

Review 68:We liked the quiet location, the hotel itself was quiet. The position of the hotel was handy for seeing hanging houses. At breakfast the choice of foods was good. Parking was close by either payable or you could find areas where you did not pay

Review 69:Beautiful beautiful location, convenient parking, clean. Travelers need to be aware of the fact that you can't drive through the historic center and need to make a loop around the center to get to the hotel

Review 70:Just needed more attention to detail, specificaly, the sealant around the shower was mouldy and needed replacing (it had been done amateurously). Also although the windows were well sealed, the doors allowed far too much noise (load phone conversation) and much noise from rooms above (sounded like trolleys being rolled across the floors)

Review 71:Location is good as was general condition and sraff were helpful.

Review 72:Room 309 has all the hotel cistern and water pipes running through it. Impossible noise and had to ask for an alternate room. Smaller room but comfortable and QUIET.

Review 73:Good location and helpful staff.

Review 74:Having to leave after just one night.

Review 75:Unsurpassable location close to the cathedral: comfortable, clean, quiet, well-appointed room with magnificent outlook, in spite of being in the city's centre: first class breakfast: attentive but not intrusive staff: exceptional value for money through booking.com

Review 76:Staff was unfriendly and did not mention included breakfast location so we ended up having to pay instead of having it included. Website should mention discounted parking location. Internet access code was unique to each device we har.

Review 77:Location was great to plaza and hanging houses. Great conversion of a convent to a boutique hotel.

Review 78:Parking some distance away. Lack of information in the room about hotel facilities and services, as well as little info about Cuenca and surrounding areas. No map of the city available at reception.

Review 79:The location. The building The sympathetic and stylish conversion of a 17th. Century Convent into a minimilist, comfortable, modern hotel. Value for money. Food quality.

Review 80:There is nothing bad to say.

Review 81:We liked the hotel and its location. The restaurant and breakfast are very good. Cuenca is a small city and our hotel was close to all the interesting places of the town.

Review 82:All was good. Staff could have been a little more friendly and attentive.

Review 83:The location couldn't be better. The room was quite clean and good value for the money.

Review 84:The bed was overly firm and difficult to sleep in. The lack of sound isolation from adjoining rooms was another issue. The buffet breakfast (included in the rate) was a touch of chaos. Although we arrived only half way through service, the yoghurt tray was empty and there were no cups on the tables, or in serving areas. Most tables had not been cleared and reset. There was no evidence of floor service. I had to go downstairs to the bar to point out that the coffee machine was not functioning and that there were no breakfast tea bags for those not wanting coffee. Overall, a real disappointment.

Review 85:This was our 2nd visit to Cuenca and chose the Giraldo mainly for location. Actually, we should have stuck to the Parador on the other side of the gorge! While it is a real challenge to restore an old building, we have seen it done a lot better. There was something a bit faded about the whole experience.

Review 86:- the breakfast was very badly organised. The selection of food was fine, but it was not replenished for people who arrived later. The coffee machine ran out of water and it was a major hassle to find someone to top it up. The staff seemed to hide rather than make themselves available. Perhaps they have other duties elsewhere in the hotel at the same time. - the air conditioning is very basic, but it worked just about ok.

Review 87:Great location. Nice small and basic hotel.

Review 88:There was nothing to not like.

Review 89:Comfortable bed/bedroom. Terrific views, especially of cathedral complex.Splendid location. Very pleasant cafe adjoining.Good breakfasts on every hand.

Review 90:Room with a skylight window. No view. Pay car park. Free wifi but too weak to use.

Review 91:In easy walking distance of all sites worth visiting. Hotel room very practical with large well equipped bathroom.

Review 92:Rooms are due for a repaint but only complaint we had.

Review 93:Lovely location staff extremely helpful hotel is lovely good time was had by everyone young and old. Everything was perfect even down to a choice of pillows.

Review 94:Great location, we were in loft style room, quiet. Staff always helpful & pleasant, multi lingual. Good bus service to main town, stops close to hotel.

Review 95:Worst bacon in Spain!

Review 96:Nice, clean rooms. Good bathrooms. Excellent location in the old town. Pretty good breakfast, too.

Review 97:The location was perfect. Cuenca was very quiet but incredibly beautiful! My 16-year old daughter and I absolutely loved it.

Review 98:Best location in Cuenca, lovely building, nice people.

Review 99:We had to pay extra for parking

Review 100:Location

Review 101:Lovely old hotel located centrally in the old town. Food in restaurant was very nice.

Review 102:shower attachment was loose

Review 103:very central ...great views across roof tops to cathedral

Review 104:The rooms where somewhat run down and during the breakfast no staff to be seen (except asking for the room number) What makes this a 4-star hotel?

Review 105:position, room's space, cleanliness, bed size

Review 106:Parking was difficult and definitely expensive, but that is a factor of the historic center of town.

Review 107:Bed great size but a bit hard

Review 108:Great location in a great place, fully recommended

Review 109:Everything.

Review 110:No breakfast.

Review 111:Excellent location and wonderful rooms.

Review 112:Hotel in poor condition booking.com misleading

Review 113:Excellent location, friendly staff, clean & spacious room

Review 114:Wifi was a bit hit and miss

Review 115:Location fantastic. Couldn't be beaten Lovely room with cathedral view Free safe Mini bar so you could use fridge

Review 116:Just made a great stay in Cuenca.

Review 117:Nice to have a four-poster bed but it was too hard

Review 118:Proximity to centre. Local parking

Review 119:There is no aircon, it is just a blower I believe. But not a complaint. The building is quite cool.

Review 120:Lovely bed and clean sparkly bathroom.

Review 121:Lovely old renovated building with much history. Good location.

Review 122:I day with ought water and no hot water during evening !Reduction given was not generous!!

Review 123:No concerns.

Review 124:Nice staff. Good customer service. Spoke English. Room was huge, dark and cool. Bed awesome. Great location.

Review 125:No dinner till 9.15pm Our room was an attic with a high window too high to look through. I asked for a high room for a view!

Review 126:Location.

Review 127:No views from hotel rooms, totally surrounded by buildings.

Review 128:Central location, room, helpful staff

Review 129:Air conditioner a problem, a whole in the wall covered with card board right by the door.

Review 130:The city

Review 131:Wifi didn't work in room

Review 132:Great location, some improvements to the hotel since my last stay.
