Reviews for Parador de Cuenca

Review 1:It was great to stay at a place with such history. The Parador is beautifully restored and the staff were excellent quickly tending to our needs such as booking taxis and making restaurant reservations. Even though there was a Saturday night wedding reception every effort was made to make our stay enjoyable. We loved Cuenca and we loved staying at the Parador.

Review 2:Breakfast is overpriced, so we did not take it.

Review 3:Gread location in front of the town, amazing views from rooms, authentic interior... Real old times atmoshere! Fantastic!

Review 4:Managed to get a little lost once in Cuenca, but soon put right by friendly locals.

Review 5:Impressive Hotel in stunning location. Second time we have stayed here, so already a favorite of ours. Staff made us feel very welcome after a long days motorcycle ride. Will definitely be back again.

Review 6:Breakfast is a little boring and the staff were scheduled very thin in the bar area.

Review 7:We attended a wonderful performance by the Navarra Quartet in old Cuenca as part of the En Las Hoces week. Totally unexpected but world class. Crossing the foot bridge over a deep gorge was a great way to start the day. Just a very plesent 3 days.

Review 8:The sauna and the pool were closed and there was no warning on the website. Both of which I was looking forward to.

Review 9:Very elegant place with excellent service. The location was beautiful right by the bridge into the town.

Review 10:Dinner was not as good as breakfast - for example the bread served with the dinner was stale.

Review 11:We enjoyed the excellent location to the old city and the wonderful views. The hotel was well run and the standard of cleanliness and comfort was good. The staff were friendly and very helpful

Review 12:Not enough parking spaces for all the guests. Parking spaces were small Got charged by a guy in the hotel street for "taking care of my car"

Review 13:Gorgeous building, big bedroom, big bed Great view,

Review 14:The room smelt terribly of cigarettes which was the only down side - would recommend specifying non-smoking room

Review 15:Amazing location and hotel, the views were send to none, Cuenca is truly stunning.

Review 16:The lovely old building and the closeness to the town of Cuenca. The staff were refreshingly attentive - not always so in the Paradors we have found.

Review 17:Too expensive for what you get, staff was not friendly, no tourist explanation about surroundings and facilities.

Review 18:Beautiful old building on a magic location.

Review 19:If you want to see the Hanging Houses of Cuenca, there is no other placeto stay. OUr room looked out on the picture postcard view of the oldpart of town, the footbridge and the hanging houses themselves.Remarkable and something I will never forget.

Review 20:Difficult to understand breakfast options. Not a lot of information on the walks around the town.

Review 21:Great room great view close to old town walked up to the stature of Christ for a fantastic view of the whole area. Pool very refreshing on a hot day.

Review 22:Would be nice to have outside bar to look at old town in comfort.

Review 23:Great location across from old town so could enjoy the view. Lovely staff. Nice art and couches to enjoy.

Review 24:staff was just mediocre, not extremely helpful. Beautiful parador, location excellent, beautiful small town, need to sing it's praises to customers.

Review 25:Views! Close to everything in city center. Nice rooms, beautiful former convent/monastery.

Review 26:we felt like second class citizen, not very well treated by staff on reception also by restaurant staff.had to go and look for some-one to serve at the bar. This is not what you expect from the Parador we have stayed in over 9 Parador's and this is the only time we have had this kind of problems

Review 27:room maid was pleasant

Review 28:The Parador was across from the Hanging Houses so the view was spectacular. The rooms were spacious and the property was impeccable! Breakfast was first class.

Review 29:Overall we loved the place. The food was good, but quite expensive by the standards of the area. Our bed was large, but a touch firm.

Review 30:The welcome and the initial impression were excellent. Our room, a superior double, was large, comfortable and had an excellent view of the old city. We found the staff correct but friendly. We had a lovely two night stay.

Review 31:Parking, especially for disabled Towels missing in room - reception unavailable at the time Bar staff missing for at least 15mins Dining appetizers too large, main meals so so - one obviously reheated (lamb was good tho) Value for money questionable

Review 32:Architecture

Review 33:Room advertised as air conditioned but system had been deliberately disabled. Desk clerk refused to reinstate. Room was stifling, at street level, with only shutters fitted to windows, so could only be ventilated by losing all privacy. Waiter in restaurant gave me wrong menu, so did not get starter I ordered. It was delivered without explanation as if in hope I would not notice. Quality of food miserable.

Review 34:We got scammed by a local scam artist who sold us"protection" for our parked car. The hotel called the police but did not offer to pay our $5, "insurance"policy.

Review 35:The hotel is very nice. For an old everything it worked like a newer one. Yet in a classic setting and a classic building. Only hotel issue we had was the internet which did not work in room, but was fine on public areas.

Review 36:Nothing.

Review 37:The well -heated historic building. The excellent choice of local cuisine available for dinner in the stunning dining room. The excellent buffet breakfast and very atttentive staff.

Review 38:There is very limited free public parking at the front of the hotel which was full when we arrived. The private parking garage is expensive.

Review 39:The hotel itself, and its position on a cliff edge are fantastic and the views across to the famous hanging houses of Cuenca are awesome. The walk to town over the high footbridge is a real highlight. The parador is luxurious without being stuffy - staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for a short stay on Cuenca.

Review 40:It was one of our birthdays and we got a pre dinner selection of petit fours sent to our room and a free piece of birthday cake with a candle on it at dinner, nice thoughtful gestures. Hotel is a beautiful building, in the gorge and there is lots of contemporary artwork around the place, which makes for good conversation. Both bar and restaurant food was excellent.

Review 41:Free wifi was just inexistent, for room this price yiu would expect decent connectivity. Because of this we were unable to plan our next day trip. Staff was just barely ok. I rented a parking lot but it was engaged when trying to use causing unnecessary stress.

Review 42:The view from here towards Cuenca city is second to none. The historic lbuilding where the hotel is located is great.

Review 43:Wouldn't sat 'didn't like', but the dining room is a big 'monasterial' hall, very impressive wooden ceiling, but being so large, lacked a bit of 'atmosphere' at night. This would be remedied by the addition of candles etc on the tables to make the space look less cavernous. Otherwise, excellent dinner and breakfast

Review 44:Superb old building built round a large courtyard; very good quality large modern paintings in the corridors; good quality food in the restaurant; garage for the car (book-able); excellent walks from the front door; the old town of Cuenca only a short walk away across the famous iron bridge...

Review 45:Most paradors we have visited remain a vestige of Spain's past, mid 60's, when they were first established - and this parador is no exception. There is a clear lack of investment in maintaining and updating the physical quality of the place. Very musty, stained carpets, lack of timely repair, etc. We had a room (305) where the door from the bathroom to the toilet was broken and did not close - bad enough were it not for the fact that there was a dangerous strip of wire extruding from it which would cut anyone who might unwittingly touch or pass by it. While we accepted an upgrade to a room 'with a view of the hanging houses' (at EUR 20 extra) this was quite a misrepresentation for two reasons - firstly we had a tree right in front of our room completely blocking any such view, and secondly, even if we had such a view, it would have been rather poor as the profile of the 'hanging houses' from the hotel does not offer an interesting view. Rather the upgrade should have stated 'a view of the old town rocks'.

Review 46:The room was not clean (previous occupants toe nail clippings were on the carpet at the side of the bed!), staff were not friendly, towels were not replaced after room was cleaned, there were no glasses in the room, morning coffee was cold, sugar was not brought with breakfast tray, sauna was unsafe and almost caught alight when we were in it, upholstered chairs were piled up in a narrow corridor by the main electrical power source, be wary of added extras on your bill ... need I say more? A very stressful stay and we checked out on the second night of five. Such a shame. This hotel is not recommended.

Review 47:The view from the bedroom window

Review 48:We liked everything about our stay.

Review 49:The ambience, location, service and value were exceptional. We enjoyed everything about our stay. We did not eat at the hotel.

Review 50:The room was a bit compact, but monks aren't suppose to be living in luxury! There was still enough room for 2 big bags with out triping over them.

Review 51:This beautiful building is added to by a beautiful restaurant and bar. All the usual great style of a Parador with history! We only discovered Parador in Spain by accident but they are now a highly recommended group of hotels for us. This one has the great advantage of the building it's slef but also being just a walk across the bridge to Ceunca. A wonderful stay.

Review 52:There was nothing to dislike

Review 53:If you choose to stay at this hotel make sure to upgrade to a premium room with a view over the old town of Cuenca. It will take your breath away. In addition the hotel has such wonderful charm. It was a pleasure to pay the bill

Review 54:Amazing position with very special views Regretted only staying one night It would be an amazing base for rock climbing and hiking in the national park

Review 55:The air-conditioning leaked a little water onto the floor near the entrance but not enough to worry us. The TV was mounted on a side wall which made it difficult to watch if resting on the bed

Review 56:It is conveniently located by foot-bridge across the valley to the main town and with walking distance to all parts of the town. It is a grand old building with old-world charm. The bedroom was not large but sufficient however the bathroom was large with a shower over the bath.

Review 57:The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, but without exception the bar and waiting staff were surly and unhelpful. There was a big wedding on in the hotel and that was where the focus was, hotel guests were left to wait at empty bars and wait at tables for service that never came, very poor customer service skills and a huge lack of interest shown. The courtyard bar did not have sufficient tables and when we asked for one the answer was "no". No lights on the tables made it dark and not a good place to sit as it was impossible to get a drink, a lovely asset not maximized.

Review 58:The hotel itself was lovely, and taking into consideration it's age was very well appointed.

Review 59:There was an old computer for use by customers that was slow. It could have been a little more up to date and accessible with a good printer and ease of use. Our room had a view of the dumpster area, but it was okay and we just left the curtains covered.

Review 60:The setting was beautiful and the rooms very clean and comfortable. We had an extra bed that worked well. The pool was clean and enjoyable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The tea and dinner were delicious.

Review 61:Our only criticism woul be that the lighting in our bedroom was so dim that it was hard to pack and unpack. The reception lady was very sweet and gave us a standard lamp (obviously this had been mentioned before!) but that was also very dim and wasn't adequate. This was a shame, as everything else was just wonderful.

Review 62:The view from the front at sunset sat outside with a drink is just spectacular.

Review 63:there were two weddings in the hotel. They took over the cool and elegant courtyard and the terrace which denied us a really splendid dining opportunity .We feel that they should give advance notice of this when making a booking and/or reduce the price on these occasions

Review 64:Very lovely open and elegant spaces. helpful staff and fantastic views.

Review 65:This Parador is in a spectacular location facing the famous Hanging Houses. The old quarter of the town is just across a gorge traversed by an iron pedestrian bridge. The rooms are spacious. The food is excellent. Paradors are expensive so this is not somewhere to spend weeks at a time but they atr generally, and this one is particularly, a luxorious treat for a special occasion.

Review 66:the front desk staff were not in the least bit interested in helping or explaining anything to their guests.

Review 67:Everything was sublime with the exception of a rather cool and disinterested staff at the front desk.

Review 68:Overpriced food in restaurant. We had to eat the bar food as only other option was to go over the bridge which we didn't like. On the other side were very steep hills which was too much for us. Be warned as there is nothing else to do if you are elderly or have a walking problem. Went to see the hanging houses, and discovered there are only three left! These were opposite the parador one a restaurant and one an art gallery. We didn't discover this until we had got back but we just couldn't go over the bridge again. Overpriced drinks in the mini bar in bedroom and in the bar. Swimming pool is up a long flight of steps. Garage parking very expensive, didn't tell us we could have parked on the front for nothing when other people had left. Don't book the garage until you get there as might be spaces available on the front. Charged extra for room service. A very money grabbing hotel.

Review 69:Beautiful scenery, spacious parador, lovely and quiet it seemed that people were thinking of the nuns who used to live there, and being respectful. Nice big airy room and lovely view overlooking the mountains with houses. At night very pretty. Lots of places to sit, including an outside patio where we could eat from the restaurant and bar.

Review 70:Cuenca seems to be a bit off the beaten track for international travellers! So very peaceful, beautiful location & view. Nice, secluded pool. Huge room, big comfy bed

Review 71:The restaurant food

Review 72:We stayed here last August , and on our return found nothing has changed the location is perfect , The staff were all very obliging on reception ,The parking was good and secure but a bit expensive( also we found this year some enterprising gypsy had taken to try and charge visitors for parking on the roads outside the Hotel, he got some free advice from me ) The pool was welcome and nice as usual, rooms were usual standard with a nice view of the Bridge Unfortunately the food served at dinner was as poor as last years offering and I was kicking myself for going in again So to sum up great Hotel just forget the Dinner in the evening

Review 73:The evening menu was not to our English taste. We stayed an extra night but had to change rooms our first room with a balcony overlooking the bay was perfect but the room at the front of the hotel was not it was very noisy with people returning after a night out right up to 5/6 in the morning

Review 74:Nearly everything

Review 75:I booked 2 rooms 6 months in advance and asked for the rooms to be close together as we were travelling as a family. They kindly gave us interconnecting rooms so I could keep an eye on the kids without having to go out into the corridor. The hotel is beautifully decorated and presented Its spotlessly clean Comfortable beds beautiful location, very close to the town via the walking bridge but very quiet Has a pool which was a little chilly even in July. Great facilities I wish I had booked all three nights in the Parador Cuenca rather than moving on as the other 2 hotels were a disappointment after the Parador. Free parking was also a bonus

Review 76:Can be noisy at weekends at they hold a lot of local functions there. The restaurant serves good food but no atmosphere.

Review 77:The location is perfect, just across the bridge to the Old Town, pay the extra for the city view, it's is SO well worth it. The staff are really friendly and helpful and there is a lovely pool garden to enjoy next to the hotel.

Review 78:I can't think of anything!

Review 79:Loved the setting with a spectacular view across to the city. We had a huge room and made full use of available facilities. A beautiful building.

Review 80:The location is stunning and it is worth paying a little more for a room with a view. An amazing town. The staff were all great (which is a little unusual for a parador). Meals from the bar are good value and there is a lovely courtyard for a drink/meal.

Review 81:None

Review 82:An ideal place to rest during our trip. The swimming pool was well kept but cold. Walking distance to the hanging houses, the picturesque bridge and the lookout.

Review 83:Wi fi not working.
