Reviews for Plaza Vieja Hotel & Lounge
Review 1:Parking is slightly awkward: once you find the hotel it is like driving through a maze to the parking. Eventually one of the staff kindly sat in the car to direct which sorted things out.
Review 2:The Arabian baths below the Hotel
Review 3:This hotel was just gorgeous. The staff were wonderful and the room was beautiful. It fronts onto a lovely old square, and the roof terrace has an amazing view up to the Alcazaba The hammam is definitely worth a visit. Lots of great places to eat nearby too. I would certainly visit again.
Review 4:We stayed at xmas and the bar and restaurant and spa were closed. They did warn us but surely if a hotel is opening and charging full price the amenities should be accessible too
Review 5:Great Decor
Review 6:Ridiculously small room, with nowhere to put your clothes except a pole with 2 hangers. When we asked where we put our clothes, we were told it was because we booked on the internet, we should have booked a better room. So if we has rung them, they would have told us that we would spend the weekend with our clothes in the suitcase on the floor? Certainly doesn't say that on its website. The floor plan on display showed ours as a single room, there was a double bed in it. That explains why only one bedside cabinet, one bedside lamp, and no room to move! Oh, by the way - new meaning of "en suite" - the shower cubicle is in the bedroom. With no extractor fan. :-)
Review 7:Excellent location, near everything - sights, bars and restaurants. Room and bathroom very clean. Pleasant outside terrace on the square.
Review 8:Loo door - you could see in but not out - very peculiar! Think they fitted it the wrong way round...
Review 9:Great location. Room compact but well equipped and comfortable. Hammam great fun!
Review 10:No privacy in the bathroom, as the door is transparent - only share room with someone you're really comfortable with. Style loses to practicality: no hooks for towels; should take some vinegar to decalcify the showerhead
Review 11:In-house Hamam (1x use included in booking) was an oasis of tranquility and excellent restaurant
Review 12:The design of the bathroom could have been better.
Review 13:A rather newly built hotel in an historic location facing Plaza de la Constitucion. One of the best SPAs we ever been to is located in the basement. An excellent restaurant where the breakfast is served is located on the ground floor.
Review 14:A little cramped. no hooks to hang anything (not even for towels outside the shower!) nor side desks. No closet either.
Review 15:The location was fronting a beautiful plaza and the place had a hammam to relax in
Review 16:No bad experiences, hotel and staff are exceptionally special in a very positive way.
Review 17:The staff were very friendly and helpful, it made us both feel so welcome and relaxed. The hotel is very modern and smart in a brilliant central location for the old town. The superb spa was a real bonus and very popular.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Hotel in a quiet area, situated on a square, city centre and harbour at walking distance and a very good tapas bar around the corner! Clean and comfortable spacy room.
Review 20:Not really an issue, but if you drive, check the location of the closest car park as recommended by the hotel. It's close, but you can't park in the square.
Review 21:Great location in a quiet plaza close to the cathedral and alcazaba. Well worth booking to use the thermal baths and was a very relaxing end to our road trip.
Review 22:Maintenance on rooms neglected. Staff helpful but unexperienced. I phoned reception several times for assistance on a broken door hinge. Had to go down and found all staff sitting outside leaving reception unattended.
Review 23:Room was spacious and clean. Very modern toilet interesting. Well situated.
Review 24:Bedroom was miniscule with just a hard bed, 2 steps down from a glassed in shower and large toilet and basin with glass door that you could see into toilet, but not out of!! (one way mirror put on wrong way?).
Review 25:Helpful staff, good location in centre of old town.
Review 26:Absolutely nothing
Review 27:Fantastic hotel. Excellent value for money, excellent staff, excellent facilities, beautiful rooms, amazing location. And a stupendous restaurant underneath! Seriously stay here and eat at the restaurant, and go in the baths. Its perfect!!
Review 28:The bed was not very comfortable and the pillows were like rocks. Most hotels have a choice of pillows. Even had to ask for an extra blanket.
Review 29:Location was amazing. The baths were lovely.
Review 30:View was poor from room balcony (1st floor) overlooking apartments opposite, street was noisy and town hall in square is currently being renovated, lots of building and traffic noise.
Review 31:Smart and comfortable room, hammam was amazing to relax in after walking around the city, staff were very friendly and helpful. Roof terrace was great to catch evening sun and view the Alcazaba
Review 32:It was difficult to find and there was no parking, although public car park was not too far away.
Review 33:I liked the location as it was in the centre and close to a variety of shops and restaurants.
Review 34:We had a Junior Suite with Spa 'access' which wasn't direct but free for each night of the stay. The spa was lovely and relaxing and we had a 30 minute massage which was payable extra. The breakfast was adequate but not much variation. The location was nice on the square with just a short walk to shops and restaurants
Review 35:All Good
Review 36:A surprisingly modern hotel in a fantastic location. Staff, place, décor - Everything was 5 star. Great to relax in the superb Arab Bath beneath the hotel. Great Bar & Restaurant too.
Review 37:Great place and very well organized . I think because it is managed only by ladies !! In particular the lady in the reception...I cannot recall her name...with eyeglasses...
Review 38:Nothing - everything was perfect!
Review 39:Such an incredible hotel. The rooms, location and hammam were absolutely stunning. The food and wine in the restaurant were amongst the best I've experienced. Will definitely be returning here for another stay soon.
Review 40:We did not know about the roof terrace??? maybe was closed?
Review 41:Located in a plaza (only one access if coming by car, however only to unload the luggage , you need to ask reception to lower the bollard ) in 19th century building we had a stylish - modern room. Did not understand the basin being in the main room but obviously the architect had some vision, Walking distance to the central part of Almeria. Parking close by and the hotel has got special rate. Make time ( need to pre book ) to use hammam, which is located in a basement of the hotel - unique and wonderful experience. Not included in the price of the room but for hotels guests it is cheaper. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 42:It was difficult to order breakfast. One of the staff spoke English.
Review 43:The hotel was a pedestrian street. You can't bring a car to the hotel. The staff gave us to parking location.
Review 44:rooftop bar was never open. telephone never worked. there is a lot of noise from partys on the square or building sounds. breakfast restaurant opened 20 min late.
Review 45:The Internet connection was poor to non existent in my room, but it wasn't a critical factor, because I was there for leisure
Review 46:I liked the general ambience of the hotel and its location. I'll probably be back at some point in the future
Review 47:You could here loads of noise from the rooms above especially slamming doors until 5:30am. There was also a lot of noise from the road on back of the hotel - scooters and noisy motorbikes all night and cars hitting a ramp of some sort.
Review 48:The restaurant next door is superb
Review 49:The Air Con in our Junior Suite wasn't working properly and the room was a bit warm. That didn't get fully resolved but it was over a weekend so difficult to get an engineer. I'm sure they'll sort it out.
Review 50:The staff are really lovely, the hotel superb and the baths super relaxing. And they actually listen to these comments. Last year in our review we mentioned it needed soundproofing and they've done that - I slept like a baby this stay!
Review 51:Hotel room with comfy bed and excellent shower Patience and friendliness of staff even though we couldn't speak Spanish Roof terrace , ham man and restaurant next door all excellent and relaxing
Review 52:Loved the location ! It's right in the midst of the old quarter with numerous tapas bars but also not far from the shops ! An excellent facility with the Arabic Baths within the hotel & a restaurant next door .
Review 53:good location in the historic city center with bars around. Hotel has a nice roof top garden and the rooms are well equipped. Parking is possible in a new parking garage nearby at a discount rate. Walking to the beachfront is about 30 min. Apparently Monday's are really slow in almeria with many places closed. At least in March. Maybe worth considering
Review 54:Disappointing housekeeping: key only programmed for 1 day, request to replace faulty lightbulb not actioned, bathrobe and slippers missing after day 1. Could not get room heated sufficiently (February).
Review 55:Great location, ultra-modern stylish room. Junior suite included access to fantastic hammam baths, wonderful modern tapas at attached bar/restaurant.
Review 56:The bed was a little hard and there weren't enough hooks on which to hang towells and dressing gowns. Lighting inthe room was soft - lovely, but not good for trying to do makeup!
Review 57:The hotel is well equipped and our room rate included access to the Arab baths, which were absolutely wonderful. Staff at the hotel were very welcoming and the restaurant is amazing (closed on Sunday evenings).
Review 58:Nothing to not like.
Review 59:Hip feel, stylish favor, attentive staff. Plan your arrival if you are driving, park at the public garage close by and walk over to the hotel.
Review 60:Not keen on having the vanity sink in the bedroom and he view out of the window wasn't great.
Review 61:Friendly staff nothing too much trouble. Spa was fantastic and so relaxing. Bed just so comfortable, would like to buy the exact same bed.
Review 62:Tiny hotel, maybe three stars, small amount of amenities. The junior suit is just a room with a small amount of extra space.... Not even a sitting area.....I felt cheated!
Review 63:The spa is absolutely wonderful!
Review 64:the terrace was closed due to works, we didn't know this in advance, which was a pity, because it was one of the reasons I booked this hotel
Review 65:very friendly and professional staff good bed nice towels
Review 66:The shower leaked through the shower door, practically flooding the whole bathroom.
Review 67:The decor of the entire hotel was great, and the bed was almost too comfortable. The discount offered for using the Turkish style baths was fantastic.
Review 68:Just about everything. We arrived having been allocated a free upgrade to a junior suite overlooking the old square and with views directly up to the castle. In the evening we enjoyed going to the Arabic baths and the following morning the breakfast was really good. The staff were very helpful and friendly indeed.
Review 69:The noise from the excessively loud music in the corridors. Their reaction when I told them that I had no hot water in my room. The lack of bed sheets in the room.
Review 70:The rooms look very nice.
Review 71:because it was noche en negra, the restaurant was not good, as it was too busy. Food was good, but service was poor. But will try again in a quieter evening.
Review 72:spa Room Location Room price included Arabic spa and breakfast
Review 73:Booked the suite 8 months earlier, and whilst effort was made to compensate, found we had been down-graded on arrival ... presumably because someone was staying longer!
Review 74:Elements of the room were quirky, but fun ... one way see through bathroom door ... inwards ... a bit bizarre. Spa experience was excellent.
Review 75:Be careful getting down to the baths if you use them. The stairs are used by the 'wet' clients coming up to the changing rooms. I took a tumble down several steps after slipping on a wet patch so have ended the holiday with a badly bruised elbow. Not helped by the fact that everything is dimly lit for ambiance. This however would be my only criticism.
Review 76:Lovely rooms, nice view onto the plaza and up to the fortress from the front of the hotel. Great location, close to lots of bars for all your tapas needs. The daily free pass down to the Arabic baths was a lovely added extra.
Review 77:The facilities for refreshments at the hotel were only available from the restaurant next door which is fine but when the staff are very rude & unaccommodating, can be very disappointing....we had breakfast there one morning along with another table of 2 & had to find the waiter every time we wanted to order! Would never return there again, extremely rude!
Review 78:Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights stay in this fabulous hotel which also included access into the very relaxing world of the thermal spa. Staff were very polite & helpful, location, fantastic. We would highly recommend this place & would certainly return.
Review 79:We were very impressed with the hotel & spa. Our suite was lovely & the hotel restaurant was amazing, their tapas has to be amongst the best food found anywhere in the world. Can't wait to return in December, or earlier if we can.
Review 80:The breakfast is not a buffet, but 'Spanish', which seems to becoffee and toast with a multitude of toppings. We opted out of breakfastand had it elsewhere.
Review 81:Hotel located in quiet square. Large room with high ceilings, withmodern fittings, each room is an individual design. The staff were trulyexcellent, especially when it came to getting a puncture fixed on thehire car. The Arab baths under the hotel are very relaxing, and thetapas in the attached restaurant was very good.
Review 82:Was surprised that we were not advised that the restaurant was not open on Sunday evenings. After returning from a meal at the Cathedral hotel was again disappointed that staff were unable to access any alcohol.
Review 83:Architectural design inspired, on site restaurant was excellent, with very lively atmosphere on Saturday night and the most tasty tapas we have eaten in Almeria
Review 84:The only niggle we had was the dressing gowns that we provided for us in our rooms. They were quite tired with holes.
Review 85:As soon as we arrived we were treated so well by the staff. Everyone was very helpful and couldn't do a enough for us. The room we stayed in - Junior Suite was amazing with a stunning view of the squire. The Spa,,,,,, well, this has to be the best Spa I have ever been too. I wished we had booked for more than two days.
Review 86:no hotel car park & Parking in area can be expensive
Review 87:Great Location, very comfortable.Free visit to Arab baths Staff very helpful very good Tapas bars in area
Review 88:No room service and not obvious how to ring reception
Review 89:Very friendly concierge, unexpectedly pleasant roof terrace bar. Wonderful hamman and massuses. Well situated for exploring old streets restaurants and shops. Delicious contemporary tapas bar adjoining hotel
Review 90:A little grouse: the staff were absolutely delightful and could not do enough for us but the toiletries in the rooms were supplied in a random fashion. For example, my friend had a towelling robe, I did not; I had shampoo and conditioner, she did not. Looked as if a checklist was not in operation!
Review 91:Located perfectly within the old Arabic quarter, in a lovely, tranquil square, this hotel is perfect for a relaxing holiday. We were smitten with the roof terrace and the lovely views of the Alcabazar and the mountains beyond. The fabulous hamam in the basement of the hotel, are owned by the hotel, as is the wonderful restaurant in the square, where we ate like royalty for a fraction of London prices. Oh, and compliments to the barman and the chef who made delicious sushi on the roof terrace, My room was spacious and had a great photo of the mountain range near Almeria on one wall - very atmospheric. All in all, you got the whole package staying in this hotel, beauty, local atmosphere, and tranquillity. Oh, and the guy who ran the bar opposite supplied us with delicious organic, mint tea, paella and delicious wine, whilst we watched the world cup. I've got flamenco connections with Almeria and will be back - and will always stay at the Plaza Vieja.
Review 92:The room was fantastic; stylish and comfortable with a fabulous view of plaza vieja and beyond. The baths were wonderfully relaxing - the perfect end to our stay in Almeria. The location was great being right next to both the old and new towns. We would definitely recommend.
Review 93:Difficult to find: best to follow signs to 'Ayuntamiento' parking and the car park is a couple of minutes away from the hotel. Breakfast was not great but OK. There was a function in the square the night we stayed (nothing to do with the hotel) so it was quite noisy but probably normally quiet: the square seemed generally peaceful
Review 94:The hotel is really lovely: smart modern rooms and in a great location; staff were very helpful and our room rate included use of spa. Checkout time was a very civilised 1pm. Good wifi and wide screen television. Great rooftop terrace and we had a lovely view overlooking the square.
Review 95:Hospitality,excellent facilities and amazing Arabic Baths.
Review 96:Everything was very beautiful the beds where average but overall would definitely recommend and will visit again.
